So, I have a “the dog ate my homework story for why this is starting a bit late. I did all my set ups hours ago and apparently forgot to save my work. Or something. All of my Below Deck recaps magically disappeared all the way back to 2015. WTF? Anyway, I have been looking forward to this recap all season. I don’t think that Captain Lee thought there would be this many episodes before his sudden departure but tonight is the night and it’s going to be a tear-jerker. So l am trying to quickly prepare for this Below Deck Recap. There are a lot of things that just disappeared!
This is such a clusterfuck of a disaster, but here we go. Captain Lee calls everyone in for a meeting and just blurts it right out. He says he will come back as soon as a can. I don’t except we will be seeing him again this season. He doesn’t seem to know who is taking over for him yet. He apologizes to the crew and everyone has tears in their eyes. Rachel takes it the hardest. She is sobbing.
Here She Comes To Save The Day
Meanwhile, we are back to the romance story where Ross has made out with two different stews. This is not helping the fact that everyone hates Camille. I love how Ross tells the deck crew there are good captains and not so good captains right before Captain Sandy arrives. At least she has gotten better. Camille was in the shower Um shouldn’t she be working? When everyone sees off Captain Lee she is noticeably missing. I hope Captain Sandy fires her. Then, Camille gets drunk before bed.

The new guests arrive. It’s another girls trip with slightly older women who can pay for their own trip and not have to ask their daddies. So they should be more civilized. We shall see. Oh one is a gold medal winner and one is a golf champion. Sandy has to get the huge boat off the dock. I thought they used the tinder last week. This season makes me want to go back to St. Lucia. It’s super expensive but worth it. Camille complains about having to do laundry. Good grief. Camille is extremely rude to Ross. She wants something to do on deck. The thing is…no one wants her “help.”
Camille Is Her Own Worst Enemy
Camille is so rude to everyone and she wears it as a badge of armor. She brags that she was expelled by her high school principal as if that is something to be proud of. I’m running out of ways to say how awful she is.

If Camille wasn’t making things hard enough, there is a fire on the boat! What else could go wrong? It’s an electrical fire in the ceiling. The deckhands are having to do anchor watch for the first time and they are not happy about it. When Captain Lee was there the engineers did it for them. Welcome to the real deal guys. Meanwhile, Rachel struggles with the birthday cake. I didn’t like the tennis ball idea from the beginning so just leave it off. Captain Sandy helps with dishes and mops in the kitchen. She’s done more work in an hour than Camille has done all season.
Next week: Will Camille FINALLY be given a ticket home? Can we send her halfway home and let her figure out the rest?
TT, is he done for good? I am asking bc I know you speak. Oh, this is not a good Christmas present.
Not for good. But based on the timing of our chat, I don’t see him returning this season. Or, he may show up at the very end. He REALLY didn’t want to go to Bravocon with a cane, but that happened and he was chauffeured around on a cart from place to place as we saw online. As someone who has a similar issue, it can take MONTHS to get relief. I’m still waiting. And I love my cane. I could not get to the bathroom without it and BOTH of my legs are numb. STILL.
According to a Captain Sandy tweet he WILL be back this season. YAY!
I saw a picture of him working out/lifting weights yesterday with a blurb that says he is getting better – not sure if true but hope it is! He is my favorite gruff but loveable captain!

It was so sad to see him go, and watch him get emotional before the golf cart drove away. I am looking forward to Captain Sandy trying Rachel’s cooking. Poor Rachel, she broke my heart. I hope he is more mobile now. (and hope you are more mobile soon, too!)

I was so sorry to see Captain Lee go, but he had to take care of himself. The real tears came from Rachel.
I don’t hate on Captain Yawn as much as I did on her early seasons. I hope she appreciates Rachel.
Camille, going all dramatic when she is called out for being lazy. Girl, you are lazy.
I can see Camille refusing to give up her cell phone in high school and the principal expelling her. She clearly did not learn that lesson but the bosun, head stew, Captain all gave her that lesson this episode. I hope she gets it.
Many moons ago, when I worked in the restaurant industry, I came across several of those girls. They were very quick to say that a teacher or principal picked on them because they “rebelled”, but they were just lazy. And they got a home school GED, not an accredited GED from the state. Just like Camille, they were very pretty but swore too much did not understand boundaries and what was appropriate in an work environment.
I’m so sorry Captain Lee is experiencing health issues. Especially mobility problems. He doesn’t need to fall again because the boat is rolling and he’s unsteady to begin with.
Camille is the crew member we love to hate this season. What a waste of space. But LOVE LOVE LOVE Fraser! He’s great: calm, professional, direct, knowledgeable. If you can’t work for him you can’t work for anyone.
Don’t care for the extra slutty aspect of this crew. Boatmances are to be expected but seems like there’s not even any consideration for another crew member’s feelings if they’re already getting something going with someone.
It was so hard to see Captain Lee’s pain when he walked down the stairs as he was leaving, and this yacht has one extra story than most super yachts, it’s a monster. It will be nice to see him again after he has improved.
It seems like Rachel is one of many of the yacht chefs we have seen really struggle when making a cake. Many chefs loathe baking, but you would think they would have a small roster of amazing cakes they have mastered. Chef Jessica on Below Deck Adventures served Heather from RHOSLC and her group Baked Alaska last week, and it was the first time she made it. So brave (I have so many dessert failures myself) and I’m still dreaming about Baked Alaska. Bucket List maybe.
Oh my gosh, on the scenes for the next episode the Bosun, Ross, is leaning in for a kiss with none other than the lovely and demure Camille in the hot tub, while the crew is hanging out together. Really?
Chef Dave made some great cakes on BD Med. Rachel seems to be off her game, it look like a lot of wait time between courses again and that Mexican dinner looked tiny.
I expected to see Captain Sandy in Lesbian Heaven with these guests, maybe next week she’ll be invited to dinner and they can bond. I don’t like Captain Lee much, especially after seeing all of the newer captains actually pitch in and help. And loved the line “boats catch on fire”.
I think the newer captains are more into being on rezlity TV and pitch in on camera. I have been a general manager for many restaurants over a 30 yezr period. I moved up the ranks doing all the menial tasks but as a GM I shouldn’t be doing that anymore. Not because I was above it but my time was required elsewhere. I wasn’t paid 6 figures to mop the floor
I will miss Captain Lee for whatever amount of time he’s gone, but he had to do it for his own health. You could just see the pain in his eyes anytime he was on camera. If this had happened a few years ago, I’d hate to see Captain Sandy fill in, but she won me over last season. The way she came on board and started pitching in — telling Rachel to go get some rest while she cleaned up the galley — was really nice. I don’t think she’s going to put up with Camille for long. Camille doesn’t seem to do much work on the interior or on deck, so she’s not really necessary. Ross is good looking, but a pig. Fraser is a sweetheart and one of the best first stews I’ve seen on the franchise, but he needs to put Camille in her place or ask to have her removed.
Back to Captain Lee and Captain Yawn, you can see there’s a real friendship there. They really seem to admire each other. That’s always a good thing.
Hope your medical conditions are treated soon and you can get back to a somewhat normal life.

Man, that was a tough one to watch. I like Sandy now. She’s much nicer. Please fire that camille. My god, I couldn’t take five minutes listening to her if she were in my line of vision and hearing. Victim, victim, victim. These people need a huge wake up call. Spoiled little brat. Ross the bosun is disgusting and I don’t find him attractive at all. How about the one guy complaining that the watch will interfere with his workouts? Welcome to the generation of these kids who don’t understand the concept of “work.”
Capt. Lee had a leather whip in his luggage. I am intrigued.
