On tonight’s Top Chef Recap we are not only hitting the road, we will be joined by a family member or two from the final six. This should be fun! STILL don’t understand why all of the good shows get very few view and and comments. I feel like the site is turning into place where everyone talks about how awful the housewives are. And they are, and that is fine. But, Top Chef and Project Runway, and Below Deck are great shows. So are 90 day Fiance and Married at First site. Which I have to put off recapping until I have time to get to them because of the housewives. Also, there are people who email me, or sometimes call me just to talk about posts. That is what the website is for!
I do have to run some people off here and there, but that is because we are a community, sort of a chosen Internet community. And as the gatekeeper I am very protective of you all. I know I am preaching to the (very small) choir here though. So let’s see who comes back from LCK! The answer might surprise you and that is who I am voting for favorite chef. Actually, I just tried and it won’t let me do it until after the show starts.
Welcome To Galveston And The Quickfire Challenge
YAY! They show us right away that Sarah is returning from LCK. She was eliminated six or seven weeks ago and has won every week. She is amazing! I just gave her 40 votes! And off we all go in the fancy BMWs to Galveston. It’s about an hour drive. All the chefs are worried about Sarah being a threat. Once everyone arrives and we see the beauty of Galveston, it’s time for a quick fire challenge. And it is not surprising at all that it’s a seafood challenge. The have to make a seafood tower. That is hard and requires a lot of shucking. They need both a hot and a cold dish. The winner will have an advantage in the immunity challenge.
This is Ashleigh’s challenge to lose. It is her wheelhouse. I think it is Nick who is in trouble. I still can’t get all the names straight. Budda seems to be nailing it as usual. I want all of these dishes and I only like my oysters fried. The judges loved everyone. Somehow Budda is on the bottom! WTF? I guess with only six they have to be really picky. Oh crap. Sarah is in the bottom because one of her dishes needed salt. I thought for sure she would win, or at least be at the top! Ashleigh, Evelyn and Nick were on the top. Evelyn wins her first quickfire. Also, she was on Kelly and Ryan this week making shrimp. So… make of that what you will.
The Elimination Challenge
Padma tells her that there is a very important family reunion in a VRBO down the street and they will be preparing the meals. What they don’t know yet is it is their family members. Then, it is revealed that they will each have a different family member to cook for. They will shop at a local farmers market and make enough food for twenty people. Evelyn’s advantage is she gets an extra 30 minutes to cook. Budda and Evelyn immediately realize there guest is a family member. Sarah also knows. Demarr on the other hand doesn’t recognize his menu at all. To be fair it is all over the place. They have 30 minutes and $200 to shop for twenty dishes? Nick buys a lot of candy! lol.
Then next day they go to the rental house and it is really nice. Evelyn gets going right away in the kitchen. But, there are six chefs in one home kitchen. To make it even more difficult, their family/friends arrive while they are cooking. And everyone is emotional. Demarr’s mother is in a wheelchair and his aunt takes care of her, so his boss, who is a big time chef is there for his dish. We are down to the wire and Sarah is concerned about her dish. Oh noe! I don’t want her to go home to her first challenge back!
Tasting All The Dishes
The chefs get to eat with their loved ones. The judges love Budda’s dish, and Evelyn’s dish. Ashleigh tells her mom she really wanted to do butter beans or blackeyed peas but she didn’t think it was elevated enough and takes too long to cook. Stick to what you know girlfriend! Shrimp creole or a seafood boil! Crap. Ashleigh’s squid was really undercooked. This season is just so good that it breaks my heart everytime someone goes home. They are all such great chefs. Tom says Ashleigh made a “huge mistake.” NO!
The judges love Demarr’s fish and more importantly his boss loved it. You can tell that Demarr really looks up to his boss/mentor like a father figure. I’m so happy for him. He seems like the standout winner so far. He gives him a letter from his aunt on behalf of his mother. Look, I already watched This Is Us today and A Million Little Things. I don’t need all of this emotion. Nick is in trouble with the judges too, but it doesn’t seem that serious. Ashleigh served undercooked squid. 🙁 They judges aren’t impressed with Sarah dish either. WHY AM I SO INVESTED IN THESE CHEFS!? They are all just so lovely.
The Judges Table
I don’t even want to watch this. YAY! A storm is brewing and they are sitting on a balcony. It’s an omen! Don’t send anyone home! Tom’s hat keeps blowing off so they move inside. Evelyn, Budda and Demarr were the top three. Budda won a stay at any VRBO property anywhere in the world. Now for the hard part. 🙁 Crap. Ashleigh is going home. I hate to see her go. But, she goes out with her head held high.
Next week they have to catch fish and use that for their meal.
