Before I get into to tonight’s Survivor 42 recap, I’d like to revisit last weeks episode, specifically, tribal council. It is harder to get Survivor photos than it is for Bravo shows. So, I often go on Twitter to see what I can pull from there. Sadly, many of the comments about how they are DONE WITH SURVIVOR FOREVER!!!!! Which is a lie. But, there reasoning is that that show is ruined because racism was discussed during tribal council. If Maryanne’s speech on racism didn’t move you, you must be dead inside. If you think that racism in not an every day part of life, you must be delusional.
Unlike Eboni K. who was brought on RHONY too try to make Ramona and Sonja and LuAnn less racist, that was a Herculean task. Eboni seemed to constantly be reprimanding that interfered with the season. Drea and Maryanne talked about how they were affected by it. It was heartfelt. I’m proud of Maryanne and Drea for speaking their truth. Survivor is a social experiment and during social experiment, all of the baggage from the real world come into the mix. That is what makes this such a great game. There is a lot that can be learned from watching this show.
Now, on to the show! They are still spilt into the two teams from last week so they head back to their camps. It is POURING rain. Hai is happy that they got Rocksroy out. Mike is kind of pissed about sending Rocksroy home causing tension between Mike and Hai even though they all voted him out. Meanwhile at Kula Kula, Lindsey is all the way over Johnathan. The next morning, the idol hunting begins. Maryanne finds an idol! YAY! She is not going to tell a soul! Smart girl. She still has an extra vote.
The Reward Challenge
The rain is still POURING DOWN and everyone is cold and wet. Some of them are shaking so badly, I am worked about their physical health. Maryanne and Romeo are shaking so hard, I don’t see them being able to do this challenge. They have to do an obstacle course while balancing a sandbag on a pole with a disk on top. The reward is hot pizza and cold beer and a night of sleeping at “the sanctuary” with pillows and blankets. LINDSEY WINS REWARD! She chooses Omar and Mike to take with her. Back at the tribe, why are they not hugging each other to warm up. We learn a lot about Hai upbringing. His family is very poor.
Lindsey talks to Hai about getting Jonathan out. Hai is down with that. Then, we visit the sanctuary with the three lucky people arriving to six pizzas! They are starving! Then they start hearing voices. Suddenly a bunch of photos of their families pop up. They each get videos from home. Everyone gets emotional. Especially, Mike. Finally, they do some gametalk. Lindsey and Hai have that three person allegiance along with Drea. Omar immediately rats Hai out to Mike and Lindsey. According to Omar, Hai is running around telling people that he has Mike in his back pocket and Mike is his puppet. There goes Lindsey’s plan to get Johnathan out. Then Omar admits to us that he made it all up! Omar! Great game play but I am a bit shocked. Also, Lindsey is going to find out the truth from Hai!
Lindsey Comes Clean To Mike and Omar
Lindsey tells Mike and Omar about the three way amulet and tells them how it works. If any of them are voted out the amulet gets stronger and stronger. And if only one person is left, it becomes an idol. It all comes down to who wins the immunity idol. Hai and Jonathan both had one last week. It’s a balance challenge. These challenges ten to favor women. Mike is out. Hai is out. Romeo is out. Omar is out. Maryanne is out. Drea is out. It’s down to Lindsey and Jonathan. Jonathan is out and Lindsey wins! So Johnathan and Hai are both in trouble.
Drea and Lindsey are ready to vote out Hai. That makes their amulet and extra vote. It seems like everyone is going to vote out Hai. But, I feel like things are never that easy. Hai goes to Jonathan and tells him that he is not going home tonight because he has an idol. He also tells him no one is going after him. Hai is kind of a sneaky player. But, hey! Whatever gets you a million dollars. Jonathan doesn’t buy what Hai is selling. Suddenly, Omar is trying to flip the vote on to Jonathan. See? I knew that Hai vote was too easy.
I wish Jeff would pronounce Omar’s name correctly! It is an easy name and it does not rhyme with Homer. Lindsey says that tonight is the night to even the playing field. Jeff immediately goes to Jonathan for his thoughts on what that means. He’s not stupid. He knows. But the votes all went to Hai except for two for Jonathan! These people are idiots.
