So, I was all ready to try to knock out this week’s MAFS Boston Recap. It was listed on my DVR but apparently I only taped Australia. I’m behind on those too. Maybe tomorrow. I got irritated with Australia because they are meting out only one or two weddings at a time. I think they should just show all the weddings in the first two hours and then get to the wedding night and send us on the honeymoon. So, I am going to have to watch On Demand or streaming to get caught up on this week. The issue with that is that Spectrum doesn’t let you pause for over two minutes to type. So we shall see.
Jasmina & Michael
On the way home to Boston these two talk about their experience with the psychic. She seemed to know a lot about the deaths in Michael’s family. Jasmina doesn’t know the difference between a sheep and an alpaca. But, Jasmina refers to Michael as her “future baby daddy.” This is the write a letter to your childhood self, and visit their family homes episode. They start at Jasmina’s childhood home. She laughs over the number of ass whoopings she got growing up. They go by her childhood school and she gets emotional talking about her favorite teacher. That is why she is a teacher. Then, she reads her letter. Both of her parents abandoned her. Wow! No wonder she has a fear of intimacy. They both cry.
Michael takes Jasmina to Hyde Park, MA. He has not been there since his mother died of breast cancer. Wow, this will be rough. But so far he is full of good memories. His brother used to bring him to the baseball park every morning at 7 am during the summer. Michael reads his letter to his younger self. It says not to be afraid to let your emotions out. And, hold you mom a little tighter and appreciate her more. Spend more time with her, go to church with her without complaint. Cherish all the moments. these two may have a chance.
These two met with Dr. Pepper. These two still haven’t kissed because Jasmina doesn’t feel comfortable.
Lindsey & Mark
Oh Lord. Lindsey thinks she is too kind, too loving and too giving for Mark. She doesn’t understand that she is trying take over his life and her smart mouth and playing around are annoying the shit out of him. She says they should break up because she doesn’t want make herself for anyone. Yeah, these two totally need a divorce. Mark and Lindsey talk to Dr Pepper. She acts like Mark pointing out that her hyper behavior annoys him is “not nice.” Please. Lindsey says she doesn’t want to talk about it because she doesn’t doesn’t think he is they guy for her. I agree. He is much too nice. Lindsey continues to play the victim. I can’t.
Later, Mark sadly had to put his first cat down. It’s such an awful thing to have to do. Lindsey goes with him. Mark seems happy to have her with him. 🙁 Later, Lindsey takes him for a nature walk. He’s apparently never been out in nature before. He hates it. She grew up near the woods. She would run away there. Because, she didn’t feel that there was much love in her house. Her dad worked all the time and her mother was resentful feeling like a single parent. Lindsey reads her letter. “Things keep making you feel that you are too much and you don’t belong.” Mark gets it now. They have a moment.
Mark takes Lindsey to his hometown in Quincy. They left his childhood home. They moved out when his dad passed away two years ago. Mark gets choked up. His dad would sit out front and wave to everyone. But, his mother would yell out the window for him come inside and say no one wants to wave at him. His letter says to spend as much time with his parents as he could. He cries and they hug. Maybe they have a chance? He wants to buy the home back. Lindsey doesn’t want to. She wants a new beginning. That’s normal.
Katina & Olajuwon
Next, we see Olajuwon showing Katina where he grew up in the projects. He grew up with a single mom with for kids. He slept on the back porch. His other brother slept in the attic. We didn’t get a lot more out of him. However, that was a big step for him. Then, Katina takes him to the church in her hometown. They went to church every Sunday. Olajuwon says his father always made him go to church. Katina says she had to take a purity class when she was TEN! Her mom had cancer too. So did Olajuwon’s. AND Michael’s! That a lot of people on one season with a mom who had cancer.
We didn’t get much from these two for some reason. But, they sit down meet with Dr. Pepper. As we know Olajuwon isn’t her biggest fan. Olajuwon brings up Katina wanting a kid in two years but she still has two years in school. Katina says that Olajuwon needs a lot of attention. Olajuwon says to production that he thinks Katina should say no on decision day and focus on herself and her school work. WTF? Is that way we didn’t see their letters? Is Olajuwon all the way out?
Steve & Noi
Steve takes Noi to his childhood house where his mother still lives. He shared a room with his two brothers and his sister had the other room. Noi is starting to learn that a lot of people didn’t grow up rich but they had good childhoods despite the situation. Or not. In his old room is one of his childhood stuffed animals. Her comment in her interview was, “I means he’s like 38 that’s a long time to have a stuffed animal.” She’s literally cold as ice. They look at his old annuals. He was voted best dancer. She discovered he was “pretty popular” in high school. Then, he played a song from his old band. His band used to sell CDs to friends. This seemed to impress her. It’s not bad, actually.
Noi’s childhood memory is going to a dance class? So she takes him to one. Are they even in her home town? Or was that overseas somewhere? They both do well but Steve blows her out of the water. At least they have a common interest. Afterward, Noi tells Steve that as a kid she had mirrors in her basement and she would pretend to be a singer. She says her parents didn’t allow the kids to have emotions. So she would listen to music in the basement and let her feeling out. She says that is why expressing her emotions she so hard for her. Didn’t she tell Steve she loved him on like day two? Steve tells her that he understands. He also says that he would like to receive back the same amount of respect he gives her.
These two read their letters. Noi says that she was reprimanded for having feelings. She felt like a burden to her family. She was not allowed to express emotions but she should have been. Steve gets emotional and they hug. Her mother would come home after working long hours at the chicken plant with chicken blood all over her face. Steve realizes she worries about an uncertain future. Thus, not understanding his job.
After dancing together some more at their apartment, Dr. Pepper shows up to talk to these two. They both say they have struggled with opening up and being vulnerable. Then, they talk about her wanting to keep her apartment. Dr. Pepper says she lives separately from her husband. However, she did live with her first husband because they had kids. I’m fine with her keeping her own apartment. But, she should live with her husband for the most part. And when they have kids they should live together all the time.
The After Party
On the afterparty the guests are Lindsey, Olajuwon and Michael. This is the final after party. At the top of the episode Lindsey says she is there with her two favorite me, “except for my husband of course.” After a clip, Lindsey says that Mark really knows what she wants and the intent is there, but she is waiting for the follow through. Olajuwon says that that Mark doesn’t have confrontation and she needs to back off some and simmer down! I paraphrase. LOL. Lindsey said that her felt Mark heard her after she read her letter. Keisha asks her what she needs from him. She says, “Stop telling me I am too much!”
Michael is up next and talks about Jasmina reading her letter. He said he was trying not to cry. Michael says that he was surprised at how much they grew. There were times when both of them didn’t see a future together but this was a turning point. Next, they talk about the fact that Jasmina has no desire to kiss him. Keisha wants to know why he doesn’t even try to kiss her. He says that he would under normal circumstances but she has made it a point to say that she is not there yet. Did they kiss on their wedding day? I don’t remember.
Olajuwon is up next. He says that he and Katina are still hold off on intimacy at her request. Keisha asks about his letter to his childhood self that we didn’t get to see. He starts to talk about it and gets choked up because he seems to be saying he is the only one of his friends that made it out. Then, he cries. He never had a father. The,n he says it is a blessing knowing Michael because they both escaped similar backgrounds. Michael and Olajuwon hug each other and cry. It turns into a group hug. After a much needed break, Keisha asks Olajuwon about saying that he thinks Katina needs to stay in college and put herself first.
Thoughts? Are y’all still watching this with me?
