Killing Eve Recap: Don’t Get Attached

March 28, 2022 by tamaratattles 11 Comments

Just when I think the Killing Eve recaps could be any more difficult, my DVR is malfunctioning. And my TV channels are randomly “temporarily unavailable all the time.” Killing Eve didn’t record at the regular time. last night so I set another recording at 4 am. Also did not record. I’ve seen the episode because I go on BBCAmerica to run the episodes and screenshot random photos. So, I’m going to try to recap and watch a stream and that is way more complicated than watching in on the TV because if you stop too long to type, you have to restart the whole stream. That said, it’s a really good episode.

The episode starts in black and white scenes from 1979 in Berlin during the cold war. A group of young socialist activists have gathered to plan some anarchy. A young Carolyn walks in as they are choosing their group name. She takes over the naming and calls it, The Twelve. I KNEW IT!

Killing Eve Recap
Young Carolyn and Konstantin

Ah! Young Anarchists

Young Carolyn is dating Young Lars (Who is going by Johann at this time) and is also interested in a German guy name “Karl” who we later find out is Konstantin working undercover. Carolyn, goes to the garage to get more booze. There is a note that says, “Some toerag found out. Don’t come in.” Also there is a dead guy in the car in the garage that Carolyn discovers. There are intimate gay photos so it appears he was either being outed as a spy or gay or both. Carolyn has no reaction at all, and takes a large bottle back into the house and says” Let’s trash this place! And the anarchy begins in what appears to be Caroline’s home. The dead guy was her father.

Meanwhile, Villanelle is still at safe house enjoying Benita’s insane amount of cooking. Villanelle if she ever goes home. Benita says she stays busy with work to avoid her abusive husband. She shows Villanelle a nasty burn on her leg. Benita says the funny thing he is a firefighter and his job is too keep people from getting burned. Benita says she knows what Villanelle did to the dead guy because she found one of his fingers under the bed while cleaning. Villanelle offers to kill Benita’s husband. And she does by faking a fire that he just so happen to save her from and she turned the heavy firehose on and shoved it in his mouth and drowned him. Later, Villanelle would come home to five of Benita’s friends who wanted the same service. But, Villanelle was heading off to the British coast to visit Konstantin.

The Thing About Pam

Konstantin is still struggling to turn Pam into a proper assassin. This week he had concerns about her wardrobe. She’s definitely no Villanelle. So, Konstantin takes her shopping. What he came up with is the sort of sleeping bag thing above. It reminds me of what Billie Eilish wore to the Oscars last night. So unhappy with the whole situation and being told she needs to dress better, she returns to her current safeplace, the carnival on the boardwalk. She finds the Carny who has a crush on her and asks if she can get some of the clothes out of the carny bucket they keep them in. She comes back wearing another awful outfit but she seems pleased. But, when she goes to show Konstantin, he hurts her feelings. Also, Villanelle has arrived and she added her own comment. “It’s been done.” Villanelle wants to believe she was the original assassin.

Meanwhile in Berlin, Carolyn is up to something and goes to what I think might have been Lars house and finds Karolina living there. Later Carolyn breaks into the house and seems to find evidence that Karolina is actually hiding Lars out there. Wait, where did the meeting between Eve and Carolina take place? Is this the same Karolina from the flashback scenes that was Karl’s girlfriend? I’m confused. Over in Paris, Eve has abducted Helene’s daughter Chloe as payback for he getting Villanelle out of jail. She is spoiling Chloe and telling her they are on an adventure. Yusuf comes to Eve’s hotel room with some news about Lars and the photo. Eve tried not to let him in because she didn’t want to have to explain why Chloe was there. But Yusuf needs Eve to go to a lecture by the guy that took the photos of Lars. She takes Chloe with her and the prof gives her some old film footage of Lars. When she watches the film she identifies Carolyn as Lars’s girlfriend back in the day.

Killing Eve RecapYou Give Love, A Bad Name!

Somewhere in all the middle of this we get another flashback to 1979. All you really know is that Konstantin and Carolyn “killed” Lars by beating him together with boat oars and watching him “drown.” Clearly, Lars is not in fact dead. Villanelle’s visit to Konstantin at the British seaside had a purpose. She is trying to track down Helene. He says he doesn’t know where she is. Actually, she is quite close. Is this why they had the long goodbye hug?  Because Helene has sort of kidnapped Eve and has her in the car with her right outside where Konstantin is staying. When, Eve sees Villanelle, she tries to get out of the car and she is locked in. Then “someone” from the direction of where Konstantin and Pam are staying shoots an arrow in Villanelles back, straight through to her heart?

Would they kill Villanelle with three more episodes left in the series? I really doubt it. WHEW! This was a hard one. I hope it was helpful!

Thanks for reading and commenting, Lisa. I don’t usually like to be “spoiled” on shows. However, sometimes on this show I wish I had a bit of a guide to explain things to me that I might have missed. This week for example, I didn’t realize that the dead guy in the Garage was Carolyn’s “gay spy father.” So I googled that part today. Hopefully this gives you enough information to realize what is going on in the show. There are so many nuances that I am sure I missed, but this should be of some help.

Thanks for recap. Yes Carolina was the girl from the flashback as Carolyn said your girlfriend plays with her ring when she is lying, when Carolyn said do you know where Lars is Carolina said no while playing with her ring. So Carolyn knew she was lying. I’m finding the scenes beautiful but still missing Villanelle high fashion. Wasn’t a fan of tonight’s outfit. I only realised the dead guy was Carolyn’s Dad because I had “penchant for penis” in my head from the truth or dare game. Excited for next episode feel like a few pieces coming together. I don’t think they would kill Villanelle that easily.

Good pick up on the flashback and the girlfriend lying on Lars re his whereabouts – I didn’t make that connection with her playing with the ring

Helene ordering the hit on Villanelle doesn’t make sense to me, there has to be more than wanting payback on Eve for abducting her daughter

Maybe so. But Chloe is the only human Helene loves and Villanelle is the only human Eve loves. Thanks for the comments. I work hard on these recaps not just for you guys but for myself. Because my Covid brain struggles to follow what is happening, so I appreciate y’all explaining things like the ring and your thoughts on who shot Villanelle with the arrow.

Also, what will our next serious dramatic show that you guys, my tiny little subset of really good scripted show watchers want to watch next. Bear in mind I do not do Netflix or other streaming channels. I’m over here with only a landline and cable TV. 🙂

Oh sorry TT over here in Australia so no idea what would be on cable. I’ve just finished Ozark current season and Afterlife (which would highly recommend) and planning on a bridgerton and outlander binge. You got me onto Killing Eve and I love it.

This post is VERY helpful.I am finding this season to be quite difficult to follow. It is almost like information is skipped over and you have to piece things together. I am saving this season on my DVR so I can sit and watch all of them again in a marathon of my own making. You do a great job in sorting this all out!
