I am so looking forward to the Top Chef recap. It’s been one of the worst mental health days ever. I just need to watch a bunch of people cooking fancy food. Also, Master Chef Junior premieres at the same time! I may end up recapping that too. Because, I love Master Chef Junior! I thought I recapped Master Chef Junior before but a site search shows nothing! It is such a cute show. So, no time like the present to start I guess. Suddenly, Thursday nights are very busy at Chez TT.
IT’S An ASIAN ELIMINATION!
I don’t know WTF is wrong with me today but I missed the start of this show and am half an hour behind! I have a lot of emails going on. Sorry. Let’s get to it. My brain is mush. We begin with a chef calling home to her man and doubting herself. I’m sorry I don’t know who she is. Why do women always underestimate themselves and the men are all super confident? Season three winner, Hung Huynh, the first Asian to win Top Chef. It’s an Asian challenge. There is no quickfire. It’s just an elimination challenge. They draw knives to determine what kind of Asian food they get. Thank God it is not a team challenge. However, they got cuisine that is unfamiliar to them. One is Indian which sucks if you are cooking for Padma.

However, they get lessons on all the Asian food they are assigned to. Sorry. Just had a long talk with my friend that I missed contact with the other night. It is such a surreal nightmare she is living with. Let’s just say that things like this should not be happening in the United States. But, let’s get back to the recap. Damarr is thrilled that Japanese people eat fried chicken. Meanwhile, Jackson is struggling because he can’t taste or smell anything.
Off To The Asian Markets
There is no Whole Foods this week it is all Asian Markets. I am drunk. I could not stop drinking on my phone call. It is the most bizarre crisis anyone has ever been in. I just can’t believe it is happening. I’m really trying to focus. But, damn. Things are happening in the United States that should not be. That is all I have to say about that. Other than my heart is not in this recap right now. Sam left his potatoes on the stove. Oh NOE!

Everyone is worried about their Asian dishes. I’m sort of checked out on this episode for many reasons. I’m so sorry. It was a difficult day for a lot of us today. The judges like everything so far. But Robert may be in trouble. And also BUDDA? I love Budda! Jesus they are also down on Monique! And Jo! WTF! Again they love Damarr like we all do. Meanwhile, Banjo had a bad dream or something. When it rains it pours. They also don’t like Sam’s dish. They like Jackson’s spring roll. Then at the end they act like they loved everything. I’m confused. Jae won and got $10K!
On the bottom is Budda, Ashleigh and Sam! Are they on crack? None of these should go home! At least Budda will likely stay because of the Tom Colicchio vagicide. Sam went home for a raw grilled potato. I’ll miss Sam. Hopefully he will come back in Last Chance Kitchen.
Here are the Last Chance Kitchens for the last two weeks.
This is a show I Look forward to every week. So sorry about your friend.
Damarr is my new chef crush, he also happens to be based in the city I live in, a visit to Virtue is in order.
Tonight’s challenge was a really good idea. It was funny when Padama asked, why haven’t we done this before? I was confused earlier in the episode when she told them to go explore the city and try different foods, and then they all were in the same place. I think it was just an obligatory car reference for their sponsor, but I thought they were going to be going to different restaurants and that sounded like fun. The learning segment was interesting though. I would have loved to have been there with them trying the food, and I wish I could have tasted that spicy Udon dish. Sorry – I haven’t learned the chefs’ names. I think she won though. Sichuan Dan Dan noodles are one of my favorite foods.
I’m sorry for your friend’s trouble and your distress, Tamara.
I was distracted watching as well, but I don’t recall that they had Thai included in this Asian themed challenge. If so, how could they leave this out? Possibly not a major cuisine there? It’s one of my favorites-such a great cuisine.
I also love Junior Top Chef! Please do include it in your reviews.
It’s on at the same time for me as well but I just record them and watch them back to back. I normally don’t go for cute kids shows but this one is really different. These are accomplished children that take cooking very seriously. They are not talked down to, the judges are very respectful and honest with them. The challenges are tough, the first episode would be hard for experienced adults.
Bubba fried the samosas after the chef said it would make them greasy. So he should be in the bottom. Sam was cute, I liked his carefree attitude and his strange potato obsession- I figured it would do him in.
Great recap, thanks TT
Still my FAVORITE show! Thanks for recapping and don’t be discouraged by the lack of comments! I truly think it’s such a respectful, happy show that people watch, enjoy and then read your recap! There are still too. many contestants to be able to comment yet. I’m rooting for the guy with no taste or smell … actually, I like them all!!
Love the show and your recaps. Please keep them coming!
This show made me so hungry! I was impressed by Jackson being able to accomplish what he did considering he can’t taste or smell anything. I’ll miss Sam. He messed up this week but he has such a great attitude.
I don’t know what’s happening to your friend, but I hope everything works out for her.
Potatoes, potatoes, potatoes.
