Killing Eve Recaps are extraordinarily difficult with my current covid brain. It’s not that I mind doing them. It actually helps me follow the storyline better as I have to look a lot of things up. Especially, since it has been so long since the previous season. But it took me several hours for the last episode. And sadly, my readership as a whole is not interested in this season. I was going to call this a discussion post rather than a recap buy the last post had exactly four posts. One of those comments was mine. So it probably won’t be much of a discussion. Perhaps this show will be one I just watch without recapping. I’ll do a lesser deep dive this time and see if anyone one else shows up. After all, this is after all only the second episode.
I’m A Bad Person Who Is Getting Better!
We begin this episode in London with Eve, and yes it took me a moment, in a disguise as a blonde woman in a trench coat. Helene is at a reenactment of some sort of torture with her daughter. As one does? Next we see Eve with a very long braid pony tail and a gorgeous dress sitting at a bar. Helene is there with a date. Yusef texts Eve and asks if she has the “tracker.” While Helene is busy making out with her date she slips what looks kinda like a tampon??? into her bag.
Meanwhile, Villanelle, or Nelle as they call her, is on a religious retreat? Church camp? Never go into the woods with Villanelle! This will not end well. It seems they are camping in the middle of nowhere. When Nelle arrives at her tent “Jesus” played by Jodie Comer as well is in the tent. “Jesus” says, I am you in drag. “Jesus” says she needs to make things right with the May, the daughter. I feel like she is just going to kill most of them. Nelle admits to May that she is a bad person trying to get better. And clearly she is because she didn’t really kill May! May seems reasonably terrified. Then May takes Villanelle out into the woods. To scream? then Villanelle screams with “drag Jesus.” Christian Villanelle is a horrible dresser. I am just saying.
Things Take A Turn
The vicar is unhappy with May and Villanelle being close again. Villanelle and May talk after he leaves. May tells Villanelle that she knows she thinks she has done bad stuff, but she has no idea about what her father has done. He’s a hypocrite. Apparently, the vicar killed her mother during a drunk driving incident when he was the driver. No one knows. May begs her not to tell anyone. I predict she will tell everyone in 5, 4, 3,.. Next we see some sort of campfire activity. Nelle has a post it note stuck to her head with the word ‘Hitler’ they apparently have to give her clues to figure out who is on the post it.
Then it is her turn to choose a name for someone else. She writes some a name and slaps in on the forehead of the rabbi/priest/vicar whatever he is. Eventually, Villanelle give him a clue about the name on his post it. You were killed unlawfully, and it is someone he knows. He says he doesn’t know anyone who was killed unlawfully. This pisses Villanelle off. So she tells everyone that he killed his wife in a car crash while driving drunk. Apparently he is a vicar. But that doesn’t really matter at this point. the other campers all turn on Villanelle and not the vicar.
Yusef has tracked Helene to a place in Paris! Yay let’s go to Paris! But first Eve meets with a guy drinking booze from a bottle. He’s vaguely familiar. I think during one season she was sent to a mental hospital to see a doctor who knew about psychopaths to try to understand Villanelle? Or maybe it was for work or something? Anyway, guy basically advises her not to just go knock on Helene’s door with out actually knowing what she is asking about. It all seems very complicated. Randomly, she says to him as she leaves, “Don’t get Eaten.” Yeah I don’t get that either. Maybe it has something to do with her feeding someone to the fish in the fish tank before she left? It was the place she last saw Villanelle. Was she feeding them or poisoning them? Why would she randomly have fish food?
So off we go to Paris finally maybe? Yusef inexplicably catches up to her. They have dinner. Eve wanted steak. But, she can’t eat. Yusef tells her that this is just a recon mission. They are not going near her. Eve steals a steak knife and Yusef notices. She tries to deny it. He takes the knife from her and basically tells her to get a grip. They argue over the bill. Next we see Eve going to Helene’s house. Helene meets her at the door holding the tampon/tracker. She was expecting her. So, she asks Eve if she was there for it. She says no, she came to cook her dinner. She is making Shepard’s pie. I mean, I guess it worked on Villanelle.
Then, after Eve cuts herself chopping vegetables, Helene holds Eves hand down on the hot stovetop burning her. Eve seemed to like it. She tells Helene who also claims to want to take down the twelve, that she doesn’t have to do this alone. She asks Helene who is at the top of the twelve. Um, isn’t it Helene? Helene’s young daughter wakes up and Helene says that Eve is her new friend and “the best story teller in the world.” Eve says once, “Once upon a time there were two princesses who wanted to kill the same dragon. …” Eve has conflict with Helene and leaves learning nothing.
Carolyn seems to be in Russia. She is getting quizzed by a guy in at an indoor pool who she was watching swim laps. He seems to be quizzing her on what she knows about about a variety of unsavory types using photographs. Carolyn seems to know a lot. She asks him for a new passport, access to all the files and an office that doesn’t smell like dysentery. Why do I feel like he is going to drown her in the pool? Oh this is Vlad. He laughs and says that she is not getting any of the things she asks for. She is being shut out of MI6. Later she goes to a Moscow apartment where she is going to live? There is a dead rat in her kitchen cabinets. She realizes it is a message. They think she is a rat.
I guess this is Vlad again that Caroline goes to dinner with? Yes it is. Vlad tells her that Hugo has “fallen hard for his honey trap.” But, one of the other women he asked her about, an informant maybe, has hanged herself. Carolyn seems…emotional? She excuses herself to the ladies room. Why is Vlad’s face sort of blurred when she leaves. Is he smiling? Carolyn has an emotional breakdown in the bathroom. We have NEVER seen her have an emotion before. Not even when her own son, Kenny died. WTF is happening?
In the very last scene, Villanelle overhears May and the vicar talking about her. May says she thinks Villanelle is the devil. She stabs them both to death in a brutal fashion. Then “drag Jesus” arrives. She eventually tries to kill “him” with a cast iron skillet. They kiss? Okay this is really weird now. I need more of Villanelle in amazing clothes and less drag Jesus. Villanelle walks off from the campsite. Where the hell will she go? To be honest, this final season is nowhere near as good as the first ones. Is it just me? New writers maybe?
