MAFS Recap: Striking A Balance

February 24, 2022 by tamaratattles 28 Comments

MAFS RecapAfter last week’s episode hopefully we won’t have to even discuss Alyssa on this week’s MAFS recap. However, in the past some of these bad pennies just never go away. Maybe she could hang out with Todrick Hall. They both seem to share similar self-delusions. Well hell, five minutes in we already see the bitch. Chris has to tell his mother about the divorce. I hope that so many lovely and kind girls are sliding into his DMs. Later, we see Alyssa lie to her friend. Production posts the receipts of her hideous behavior.

MAFS RecapNoi & Steve

Steve has been becoming the homemaker now that Noi has gone back to work. Steve tries to get Noi to calm down about his self-employment. He has resources. He can can do freelance work whenever he wants to. But, Noi still feels financially insecure about it. She has never been without a job. Steve and Noi bond in the kitchen about eating chicken feet growing up and how everyone thinks it is weird. Because it is weird. I feel weird trying to find fat back or hog jowls in the grocery store.

Anyway, these two are both cooking foods from their cultures for the housewarming party. Everything looks AMAZING. I had forgotten that Noi and Steve got each other the same gift on their wedding day. Noi’s conviction of having three kids comes up. Noi talks to his friends about the work issue. I think Noi is kind of missing the point when his friends point out that he has a network of people who want to hire him. Clearly, he is financially responsible and has the means to support himself. Why is she so tied to a forty hour work week working for someone else. When I stopped doing that, it was amazing. Self-employed people are employed people.

It’s Not About The Pasta!

Are these two really going to fight over a pot of noodles? Apparently, Steve has been doing all the cooking so Noi volunteered to make dinner. She is gluten-free, so he put on a pot of water for his regular noodles. But, Noi put her noodles in her pot and didn’t put his noodles in his pot. So he put them in. Then, he comes back and his pot is boiling over and over cooked. Noi takes he dog and leaves without telling him where she is going. She just says “Fuck this.” Really girl? Steve tries to text her and she is not responding.

Noi comes home with an attitude. The only contact they have had, if you want to call it that is Noi posting on her Instagram about how not settling for less than you deserve basically. WOW. She tells him that this was the first time she cooked for him and she found it to be really rude that he was pissed about his noodles. Really? You were the one “cooking” you couldn’t have watched his pot of noodles? That’s something that sends you running back to your apartment? How old is this one?

Katina & Olajuwon

Olajuwon meets with his friend to discuss Pastor Cal’s suggestion he consummate the marriage. His friend is very shocked that Olajuwon is so hesitant. He also mentions that Katina apparently doesn’t know how to grocery shop. His friend says he needs to quit overthinking everything. I feel like someone tells him that every episode.

Katina meets with her friend, Ariana. People are still freaked out by Olajuwon’s lap dance on the reception. Ariana said that he talks a lot. Like a lot  a lot. That’s true. Ariana wonders if he talked so much at the reception to keep them from asking him questions. Nah, he just loves to talk about himself. I can’t believe that he has never dated a black woman. Apparently, he is biracial. I am so bad at knowing things like that. I would never have guessed he was half Irish!

Katina’s friends are coming in hot. They are not really fans of Olajuwon. Is one of them wearing an Olympic Medal? What is that? Katina tells her friends they have not had sex yet. His friends tell Katina that she’s doing the right thing by staying calm when he gets hot-headed. The friends on both sides are optimistic.

Lindsey & Mark

Mark and his male friend hang out to talk about Lindsey. Mark is getting a bit tired of Lindsey’s over the top personality. Especially when they are with the other couples. His friend tell him he needs to calmly explain to him that he would prefer they are more reserved in public. Then they invite everyone over to a pizza/housewarming party. They play a trivia game with their friends. Mark asks her friends how to rein Mark in public. Lindsey talks to Mark’s guests about how to get Mark to let her help him. Maybe back off from trying to take over his life all the time?

Jasmina & Michael

Michael goes to his sister, Claire’s apartment for advice on Jasmina. I have a problem with the way that Michael demands random apologies for no reason. He tends to misunderstand things here and there. Claire gives great place. She says Jasmina doesn’t trust him enough to let him in. Jasmina gets advice from her friend, Sam. Basically, it is exactly what Claire said. Jasmina doesn’t trust Michael. Also, Sam says that Jasmina always thinks she is right. So does Michael. That’s going to take some compromise.

Jasmina  and Michael are having a taco night/housewarming. Michael is basically making what we used to call hunch punch back in the day. It’s mostly alcohol. He also wants to play games. Both Michael and Jasmina are VERY competitive. Overall, things seem to be going well. Michael seems to be genuinely interested in advice from Jasmina’s friends. So far, this housewarming is going the best.

The Bachelor Peter Weber

The Group Event With  All The Cast

It looks like everyone is going out together. Once again, Chris has to admit is he filing for divorce. Noi is acting like a petulant child. This should be interesting. It looks like they are going bowling. I’ve never seen bowling pins like this. Clearly, they have had liposuction. Lindsey announces that Mark had a taco for the first time. He didn’t know what it was. Someone asked if she blindfolded him, she said no, but she would in the bedroom.

The one that doesn’t look like Cynthia Bailey, Katina? says that Lindsey is always being inappropriate. Good Lord. It was a joke. Lighten up! Then they start talking about men leaving the toilet seat up. Lindsey wants to chime in but then Jasmina shuts her down. Clearly everyone hates Lindsey. I think she is hilarious. I guess it is an acquired taste?

Click Here For More MAFS Boston Recaps

Then the bitch arrives. Le sigh. They all show what they learned from Pastor Cal. Katina is kind of a bitch. Lindsey says that she’s learned you can’t have intimacy unless you have had conflict first and learned how to resolve it. Katina rolls her eyes. Lindsey asks why she is doing that. Katina says, “I’m not fixing to have conflict with you on camera again, girl. Stay over there.” Mark can’t take conflict. He just wants Lindsey to shut up around the group. Way to have her back Mark, she didn’t say anything outrageous.

Another Couple Down?

Then Chris, dropped the divorce bomb in the kindest way possible. Alyssa fake cries and said she tried her best. BITCH YOU DIDN’T TRY AT ALL! I’m waiting for the “I’m a good person” comment. No one believes her. Later Mark tells Lindsey that she should not have called Katina out for rolling her eyes at her. STAY OUT OF WOMEN’S BUSINESS, MARK! Mark has the nerve to say they are a team. Lindsey points out that she has been a team. Though all his bed bugs, homelessness and hazmat suits. It doesn’t look like he is on her team to me. Sorry NOT SORRY. I’m Team Lindsey. Mark seems to be out.

Click Here For More MAFS Boston Recaps

Lindsey retreats to the bathroom. At least two producers follow her. She says she is not coming out of the bathroom. She hates her husband. Then, she tells them that no other woman would put up with this treatment. She calls him a “pathetic loser.” She says she was all in until she is out. And once she’s out, she’s out. Again, I am Team Lindsey. But, that is a very unpopular opinion on Twitter. She is so loud that Mark and Chris can hear her shouting from the bathroom. She also insinuated that he sucks in bed and has small balls. But on the previews we see them going out to dinner together and getting along. Sort of. And every marriage seems to implode. Is this a season where no one stays together?

The After Party

I love Keisha Knight Pulliam. Tonight we have Chris, Katina and Steve. Chris is fine with his decision to divorce. It’s the best thing for him. Steve talks about his work life. I love that Keisha said self-employed and unemployed are two very different things. I believe I said that in my recap. Keisha asks if he has savings. He does. Chris says he did the exact same thing that Steve did and went on a two month trip. If you mind your finances, it’s perfectly fine to go on lengthy trips. Steve says Noi doesn’t even tell him what is going on with her.

Click Here For More MAFS Boston Recaps

The guys seem to really like Olajuwon. Katina’s mom likes him. Chris said that his friends saw some red flags right out the gate. She was self-absorbed at the wedding. They show Alyssa’s constant lies. Chris doesn’t seem to think that Alyssa will realize she was the problem when she watches the episodes. I agree. She is delusional. Next up is Lindsey’s horrific rant about Mark. Clearly, there is no recovery from that. Steve thinks he and Noi are making progress. Katina seems good with Olajuwon. Chris said that he doesn’t regret doing the show. But, he would not do it again.

Wow. That was A LOT. Am I the only one that is team Lindsey? I get her bathroom rant was horrific and there is no coming back from that. But, I do think that Mark could have been more understanding…

Is there a place where we can walk about WWIII?
I did my service in Ukraine.

Millions are going to die. Millions

Get Jen Shah ripped off folks, Horrific. However, this is millions of lives that will be lost. Millions of lives. Not financial, actual literal lives.

Ukraine has a population of over 42 million people. Larger in land size than the largest US state, and
    more populous thand California.

Putin has made mobile crematoriums to follow his tanks.

I thought mass crematoriums were done with the fall of the Nazis. I was wrong.

Millions will die. This is a complete annihilation. If anyone thinks it stops with Ukrainian, I have an igloo to sell you in the summer in Florida.

Millions will die. The world only hopes he stops with Ukraine. Likely, he won’t.

I’m definitely Team Lindsay. Mark needs to be more assertive in private but have his wife’s back in public…that marriage rule 101. The woman wore a hazmat suit for Mark STFU and have her back!!! Thank you Jesus I do not have to see Alyssa again! I liked Chris and think they should fix him up with someone and keep him on the show. I’m not feeling Katina for some reason. She seems about as exciting as a dust rag. Noi was completely in the wrong and needs to get out of her own way before she loses what could be a good thing. Finally Michael and Jasmina are both so stubborn I think her more than him. I think he truly just doesn’t know how to communicate with spouse or female. Jasmina wants to be right all the damn time. Thx for the recap!

I’m not feeling Katina either and I’ve struggled with why. I’ve decided there’s no there, there. No substance. She doesn’t even come across as an intelligent person. If there was a thought bubble over her head it would be blank, lol. She’s happy Olojuan can carry a conversation because she has no original thoughts. Her behavior toward Lindsey was not warranted and was childish. Lindsey was right to call her out. I do think Katina and O will work. She’s willing to let O mold her into what he wants in a wife. If it works for them, who am I to say otherwise..

Mark should not have chastised Lindsey in front of the other couples. Lindsey knows they don’t like her and her husband who should have her back was on their side. For someone like Lindsey, that’s the ultimate betrayal. Now, her mouth is dangerous. Everything she said was so cringeworthy and probably true. She wanted to hurt and embarrass Mark like he did to her. The bottom line is Mark may be a nice man but he’s too weak of a man for Lindsey. If she had any respect for him she would not have said the things she did.

if you watch the scene closely, Mark called her out, righty I think, at the other end of the lanes. you can see Oja and Steve playing way over at the last lanes. Mark has been cleaning up her drunken behavior since the wedding. He’s tired of it. also, listen to his conversation with Chris on the stairs. apparently, she monopolized the group convos all night and it was obvious the group was highly annoyed with her.

The bowling is called pin bowling which I did years ago outside of Boston. It seems easier with a smaller ball but it was still hard. Katina seems to want to fight Lindsey and is a super mean girl. Think O is all talk and has a ED problem maybe too much roids or porn. Jasmina has fallen into scolding mommy and Michael seems to be looking for a mommy so maybe it will work. I actually like sober Lindsey but she needs to tame her tongue. Her rant was walking off a cliff. Chris reminds me of the hunky Gil from last season with calm attitude and good advice. Mark seems all over the place and unstable. Steve has no intention of getting a job and no explanation for how he can provide security. Mid life crisis? Noi just snapped under the stress, but I think they are the most likely couple to outlast the others.

Steve is not going to outline his finances on this show. He has savings, investments, self-employment, multiple job opportunists and the ability to travel. He’s not homeless living in the streets. He’s in a very lucrative field and doesn’t have to work 60 hours a week and enjoyings a work/life balance. What is is supposed to say to Noi? ” I’m not willing to work a shitty 40 hour week or more because I have better opportunities? I think she would prefer him working a 40 hour week at McDonalds for a “steady paycheck.” I don’t have a steady paycheck. But I am just fine. Though I do think about putting my PayPal button back up when I watch podcasts and see people sending them all these donations. IJS.

I blame the show for most people’s perception of Steve because they initially presented him as unemployed. Anyone who consults, freelances, etc. would not identify themselves as unemployed. It also didn’t help that Steve’s own father described Steve as a vagabond (I think) to Noi. Not cool.

I don’t blame Steve for not wanting to discuss all of his finances on television. But if this is a real marriage, he needs to have an off camera conversation with Noi about his financial plans. If that’s not good enough for Noi then they need to part ways.

Many people live with a lack mentality or scarcity of resources mentality. The idea of not having a steady paycheck is too frightening and they don’t understand if there’s money to be made why someone without a steady check wouldn’t go out there and find a “steady” job. Just my two cents while I’m at my 9-5, LOL.

I agree. I be more concerned by the real estate agents job. Sure top agents make lots of money but most agents are lucky to get a handful of sales a year. Plus the market fluctuates. Hardly a “steady income.”

Why are Chris and Alyssa on this episode?Their story ended last week. Them telling the others at the bowling alley was okay but I was not interested seeing the other scenes.

I know they invite friends to dinner each season but this time it was boring. I much rather see the couples spending time with each other and navigating their marriages. It seems like the reality of being married to a stranger is startling to sink in.

Sorry, but I am not team Lindsey. When she is sober and interacting with just Mark, she can be fun. But when she’s drinking, the minute anyone crosses her she says vindictive things that hurt others. Mark has his faults, but I think he’s just tired of some of her behavior. She was yelling in the bathroom about their sex life, Mark’s job and salary, and his family. She does not respect him. I agree, there maybe no going back from that.

I am hopeful Mark has used any soars time away from Lindsey to secure a new home for himself. Lindsey has no respect for him. There’s no way to walk back from what she yelled out for the world to hear in that bathroom.

Wow Lindsey!! This is how she responds when her husband disappoints her? She’s scary. Does she know how to express herself without destroying someone verbally? He’s her husband not her enemy. Calm down, tell him you’re disappointed and hurt that he didn’t have your back, tell him she needs his support when they are in public and they can discuss issues in private.

    She emasculated Mark.

Noi is about to miss out on a good man. Steve said something that she needs to hear. He said she needs to trust that he will provide for her and their family. He seemed hurt that she didn’t believe in him. I hope they can really talk about her fears and the fact that he has resources to provide for the family. They won’t suffer because he isn’t tied to traditional work.

Alyssa is smoking something if she believes the lies coming out of her mouth.

Jasmina and Matthew may be too set in their ways and stuck in their past losses to begin to trust one another. It takes time and a willingness to be a better person and partner.

Katina has the patience of Job. I’m rooting for them. Olajuwon and Katina seem sincere.

Admittedly, Lindsay can be a bit more outspoken than some may be comfortable with but she’s just as likely to express positivity as she is negativity. Gotta take the good with the bad! In this episode, it seemed like Katina was constantly trying to start with her via dirty looks, rude comments, etc. How much was Lindsay supposed to take before questioning Katina’s behavior? If Mark was that concerned about his wife’s reaction to being repeatedly poked at, why not take a quick walk away from the group with her to diffuse/distract? That would’ve been the time to express “When you do this/I feel…” Lindsay has had Mark’s back from Day 1, sometimes overly so, but that’s better than the alternative. She has not been supported by her husband at the same level, not even remotely close. Given Mark’s role as a caretaker (as far as his mother’s mental health struggles go), I feel like he’s hyper focused on trying to keep everything totally calm all the time but that’s not realistic and occasionally, it’s detrimental to his new relationship.
I don’t condone Lindsay’s drunken bathroom rant whatsoever, it went waaay too far – especially since she was loud as hell – but it’s clear she was hurt by Mark and lashing out. Both strike me as genuinely decent, caring people. They just need to recognize that they each possess qualities the other can benefit from.

“why not take a quick walk away from the group to diffuse/distract?”

That is the advice we give parents to handle a misbehaving child. I think Chris had it right when he told Mark that Lindsey has a problem with impulse control. I don’t think Mark is blameless, but there are better ways for Lindsey to communicate than lashing out the way she has. In her remarks to Pastor Cal she was unapologetic for her communication style which seems to me an unwillingness to compromise or change. Maybe there is someone more suited to Lindsey out there, but I don’t think Mark can handle it. Also, I wonder how she handles conflicts at her job?

Very true. Walking away is a tactic for distracting from or diffusing a situation with children…but it’s a good move for any age group, especially when alcohol is involved. Yikes! I agree that Lindsay has some impulse control and drinking shines a light on this aspect, some of her reactions have been terrible. If she consistently behaved this way though, I doubt she would have any friends in the real world but that doesn’t seem to be an issue. Lindsay is/was a hospice nurse so i can’t fathom she’s jerky in the workplace but to be fair, many put on a different “hat” when we go to work and who we are professionally isn’t necessarily who we are personally. Regarding the Pastor Cal visit, change takes time but I wouldn’t say she hasn’t made an effort. She ignored repeated, childish nonsense from Katina before finally asking what seemed like a reasonable question, regarding the passive aggressive eye rolling. There’s room for Mark to be a little less set in his ways as well and I don’t see a huge effort to find middle ground on his part but again, it takes time. Lol…I still can’t get over the fact that he’s 37 and just tried tacos for the first time!

I agree with Chris that she will not see anything wrong with her attitude or how she treated him when watching episodes back. She is definitely delusional and although she seems to love attention (i.e., camera time) did she forget that although she claims she gave it her all that the film shows differently?

As for Lindsay, she still triggers me as she is an exact replica of a former friend. Same ‘tude, same smokers laugh, same ‘attack mode’ when someone says/does something that doesn’t align with how she thinks they should say/do something. Ugh.

Noi and Steven have very different attitudes to finances which is… a pretty serious problem (and, in my opinion, a pretty big fail on the part of the experts). I don’t think either is wrong in their way of thinking, per se, but I also don’t believe that either would be able to change their way of thinking much without serious compromise of self. While I think compromise is generally good, I also think some can lead to resentment – and in this instance I would imagine Noi or Steven resenting the other.

Noi showed some serious lack of maturity in her handling of the communication around the noodle incident – but my sense was that her response had nothing to do with cooking and everything to do with resentment of his work situation. Even so, the silent treatment and social media post was really a problem and Steven was completely right to call her out on it.

I don’t see these two working in the long run, despite their initial cute start.

I wonder how Lindsay and Mark would be doing right now if the show wasn’t forcing so many group situations? Mark is balancing wanting to get along with his wife and wanting to get along with the cast. Both are new scenarios and a lot to handle. I despise Lindsay’s tendency to go for the jugular when wounded and I think that is the nail in the coffin for a relationship but I do understand that she may be frustrated by the perception that Mark is more loyal to the rest of the cast than to her – especially after her attempts to support him. I think Mark has a fear of being left out and the emphasis on group activities for the show is keeping him from being fully present in the new marriage.

Thank you for the recaps, just found your Tattles and thru you can “see” the show…Yay. As a Psychic Empath I literally cannot watch this season, the cringe factor is too much…I tried and got to the next week preview of Lindsay’s FU and you…and…you. Experts? These people are supposed to be “Experts”. No, just NO. The matchmaking had me at NO! Katina needs Gill from last season, Lindsey needs a heaping dose of Johnny, Chris needs a Brett in his life, the big O deserves Myrla, and Alyssa needs to get back on her Broom & just GO back to the center of whatever Universe she believes revolves around her…Ms Nice Person is like Johnny on Steroids…LOTS of Steroids. The only people I feel for on this season are Chris & Katina as both got totally hosed. These “Experts” couldn’t match a pair of socks much less human beings!!

Lindsay is a good match for Mark. Just Mark doesn’t see it. When she is hurt she goes low. If he would recognize that and just validate she is hurt drama over.

I really thought Jasmina and Michael were the next couple to be. The red flags he is waving is very dark. He lost family at an early age. There is trauma there that he hasn’t resolved. Do not see them working out.
