This is a post is a reminder that children are out future. Orion Jean is Time’s Kid of the year. And he is an amazing young man. “If you see a problem, fix it.” That’s how Orion Jean describes his work. Orion sees himself as an ambassador for kindness. He finds ways to help others wherever he sees a need. It might be collecting and donating 100,000 meals to food-insecure families or half a million books to kids with none at home. At a time when people are feeling isolated and divided, Orion sees a better, kinder world. It’s the world we could have if more people like him brought communities together to help their neediest members. Orion spoke with actor and humanitarian Angelina Jolie over Zoom from his home, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Orion: We can’t force others to be kind, but we can be kind ourselves and hope to inspire other people. So many people have great ideas but never act on them. I want others to know that they can start today. If there’s an issue or problem you want to solve, all it takes is just knowing deep down that it’s something you care about.
It’s best if you just go here and see this kid. I will always love you came on after this and I am singing to Banjo and crying.
The point is we have great new black leaders coming up. He is feeding kids and getting books to kids who need them. He’s a hero.
It’s children like Orion who give me hope for the future.
Yes. Me too. He’s such a sweet kid. He definitely has a place in Black History and a better future.
I just found the interview with this kid and Angelina Jolie. And updated the post. He is the future. He is so articulate and loving and caring and he is ELEVEN YEARS OLD.
Orion is the hope we all need for the future. May God bless him and keep him from harm. His family, as well as all of us, should be so proud of this kind human being.
Love this! Thanks for sharing
Wow. Onions, I’m just chopping lots and lots of onions. Seriously, I have been pouting and feeling sorry for myself because it is my birthday and it always turns into onions and getting stuck in my head. But in the last few minutes of today I opened this and read about Orion Jean. A living hero, in this world where heroes are so hard to find. He is a gem and an inspiration to this silly old lady. Thank you for sharing about this angel.
I just emailed you, Birthday girl! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! And if the email you use is not the current one, which is fine, email me at [email protected] com, All of you can email me at anytime.

Thank you TT. What a wonderful child. His parents must be great people as well.
He is a hero at 11. Wow.
Thank you for sharing! I love these black history month posts. My second time commenting and both times regarding the same. I’ve been taking the people you highlight and posting about them along with a photo on a whiteboard I have outside of my classroom. The students love to stop by read and learn. Additionally, I have my 5th/6th graders reflect and connect these stories to their lives and open futures via socio-emotional journals. They love it! Again thank you – sending positive vibes and hugs to banjo.
AWESOME!
