Black History Month Spotlight: Cynthia Erivo

February 6, 2022 by tamaratattles 10 Comments

I think it is important that we realize Black History is being made every day. Also, I am mesmerized by Cynthia Erivo. The last movie I watched in a theater before the pandemic, was Harriet. It may have been the best movie I have ever seen. Right now, I am playing the Youtube video that she sang at the Oscars in 2020.  I am feeling all the feelings I felt during that movie. Since I saw her in Harriet, I have been a huge fan. She is a spectacular person.

She seems really thoughtful in the choices that she makes. She is one Oscar away from being an EGOT. I was VERY angry that she didn’t get her Oscar and it went to Elton John instead. In fact, have we even seen our Oscar reporter Erica since then? She wanted Elton John to win and he did. Even typing this right now I am pissed about that.

And yes, I know she is British. Black History is not just about Americans. She is a phenomenal woman. She will be talked about long after she passes. I just found out that there is an Aretha Franklin movie on the National Geographic channel where she plays Aretha and does all of her own singing that I am looking forward to seeing.

Right now, Banjo and I are having a quiet day. I never even turned the sun on for him. ( My house has all blackout curtains.) Not pretty but I keep odd hours. So we are just cuddled up in our cocoon.  Actually he just went back to his bed and I’m probably gong to lay down for a bit myself. I hope I don’t oversleep whatever I am supposed to be recapping tonight.

I hope y’all enjoy this one, I don’t know why she is not the most famous person on earth. I can’t say enough kind things about her. She’s a trailblazer for sure.

Her Tony Award winning performance. Just the way she walks… She is amazing. And continues to make history every day.

She is phenomenal. I have been trying to get my husband to watch Aretha Franklin: Genius for at least a year. She’s amazing in that role. I doesn’t matter that she doesn’t look like the Queen of Soul, her talent more than makes up for it.

    I highly recommended

Obtw, he finished watching it today and loved it

It’s available on Hulu plus and Amazon prime I believe. Watched it when it came out. This isn’t The Last Dance for sure.

Every time I see your BHM posts I cannot help but think of Cindy Lauper’s rendition of “Sweet Soul Music” on David Letterman. Ben E. King and Billy Joel participated and it is AMAZING. “Spotlight on James Brown y’all, He’s the king of it all yeah-Oh yeah OH OH Yeah!! Youtube it, it’s a tour de force.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen this so thanks for reminding me😊💙 So much talent together! I miss Letterman like an arm. He was a constant for me. He has always made me laugh.

I love that damn performance. I’m going to YouTube it now. I would give 10 years off my life to perform that song with that lineup.

I first saw Cynthia Erivo on Stephen King’s The Outsider with Jason Bateman. She was so good in that. She is so versatile and has such style!
