It’s all coming down to the wire on tonight Project Runway Recap. There are four female designers left, but only three will be competing in the finale. This has been a pretty good season and I’ll be sorry to see it end. However, I will not miss the endless waiting for Bravo Media Village to post the final looks.
We pick up the day after the last runway in the townhouse. Kristina is sobbing to her family on Facetime because the judges were harsh on her Disney gown last week. Then, the final four head to Rockefeller Center to meet up with Christian for their thirteenth challenge! The views are amazing! Christian says that ten of the twelve challenges were won by the remaining designers. Coral has not won. Shantall has won four times. That’s impressive. Nina is also there and tells the designers that it is the first time in Project Runway history they have had an all female finale. The challenge is to make their brand clear, and show a look that represents the future of fashion. They have two days and get a seamstress to help them out.
At Mood They Shop For More Than Fabric
When they arrive at Mood, the final four get to pick their models. Kristina goes first and picks Luz. Coral picked Mimi. Shantall gets third pick and chooses DD. She always gets the best even when she goes last! Chasity chooses Sarah. Kristina wants to do streetwear, specifically jeans with an American flag theme. Kristina’s fabric choices look cheap to me. Chasity is making a black gown. Christian discourages the black. But, Chasity doesn’t listen. He doesn’t like Kristina’s navy material either. Coral is doing nude. AGAIN. Christian’s head may explode. Chasity is going all white.
Back at the workplace, two ladies come from the CFDA to mentor the designers on their branding. They also take a look at all of their twelve designs so far and give feedback. They do like Coral’s macramé. So here we go with the macramé again. She’s doing a full length dress, a neck piece and a jacket. That’s ambitious. I understand the CFDA people are important in the industry. And a mentorship with them is highly sought after, but they didn’t really seem to contribute to this episode. I could have used that time for more Christian Siriano. Some of these people need to realize that less is more. Shantall is doing a white pantsuit. I’m not sure what the fabric is but it looks really expensive.
Christian Gives His Feedback
Coral tells Christian that she is making a long dress with macramé and a jacket. He suggests she doesn’t even attempt the jacket and just focus on making the most gorgeous dress she has ever made. He likes her dress so far though. All the designers seem really, really nervous. Chasity is also emotional because she is going to miss ignoring Christian. 🙂 She is making a black gown.
Kristina is doing the American Flag streetwear with jeans. Christian suggests she not do the cross body ties she has done before. The judges want new, and different, and a look to the future. But, he is fine with Coral doing macramé for the 13th time? My problem is that all the women have their hair pulled back. That leaves me to try to figure out who they are by their face. And, I have no facial recognition skills. Shantall is making patterns for her white suit. That’s really time consuming. It also all has to be lined. VERY ambitious. And she wants it to be gender fluid. Nice touch.
The Model Fitting
Shantall has almost nothing to fit on DD when she arrives. The pants are not lined, the jacket is not done, what the heck has her seamstress been doing all day? It’s pants and a jacket! Also, the pants and the jacket seem like two different shades of white. For the first time all season, I am worried about Shantall. She’s got a lot to do and very little time! The good news for Shantall is that I hate Coral’s look. She is also doing white and needs an underskirt that she has not made yet. Kristina’s look is not impressing me at all. This is Shantall’s runway to lose at the moment. She just has to get everything done. Oh wow! Chasity’s black dress is beautiful! So, she could totally win!
The next morning they have only three hours before the runway. Shantall is really pressed for time. I’m nervous for all of them. I think either Kristina or Coral will go home. I think Kristina is in the most danger. Coral’s thirteenth macramé dress is her best one so far. Practice makes perfect I guess. So, let’s see what happens!
Next, it’s time for the runway. Karlie Kloss is our guest judge this week. Mimi comes out first to model Coral’s look. It’s beautiful. Mimi really works the runway. For once I don’t hate the macramé. Luz comes out in Kristina’s look. I think Kristina will go home for this. It’s not at the level of the other designers. Then DD comes out to SLAY the runway in Shantall’s white suit. Elaine is raving about it out loud as it is on the runway. She wants it all. But then, Sarah comes out in Chasity’s black gown. This could win the whole thing too! This was a really good runway for the most part. It’s going to be hard to pick a winner. I might have to go with Chasity.
The outfit Kristina is wearing is dumpy too. Karlie likes Kristina’s look. Nina likes the “versatility” of the look. Elaine likes the look but also says it is too complicated and not for everybody. Also, it seems reminiscent of other looks she has done. Also, Brandon didn’t seem to like it. He basically says he could tell it was hers. But, is that good thing? Coral’s look is up next. She gets emotional talking about her heritage. Elaine loves it. Nina seems to really love it. She could win with this dress. Brandon likes it too.
The Judges Have a Hard Decision
Up next is Chasity. Brandon loves it. However, there are issues with her sleeves. Elaine doesn’t like the top of the dress. She likes what she is wearing more than what went down the runway. No! I don’t want Chasity to go home! Karlie likes her gown and what she is wearing. Nina has nice things to say about the pleating. Then, Nina asks if Chasity thought she would be in the final four. She starts to cry. She talked about her depression and her struggles. Brandon is very supportive. Shantall makes sure to point out it is “gender fluid.” Other than Tom Sandoval, what man is going to wear a peplum jacket. I HATE a peplum. HATE IT. But this suit is beautiful. Karlie likes the peplum. So does Elaine. Elaine is really buying the nonbinary story.
Oh wow! We did not get to see the judges talk amongst themselves. They are going straight to their decisions! THEY SEND ALL FOUR OF THE TO FASHION WEEK! Because, they could not make a decision. No one was even declared the winner! They are all going home with ten thousand dollars and five months to make ten looks. This is great news! I’m so happy for them! I just noticed how much taller Chasity is than everyone else. Next week, it looks like only the judges will be in the audience for the NYFW looks.
There is some unspoken information revealed at the end of this week’s Aftershow.
