It’s Project Runway, With No Runway?
We start with a producer coming into the loft immediately after Chasity’s win. They were ready to celebrate and probably fall dead tired into bed. However, they were summoned to meet Christian at an empty warehouse. This is there where they will get their next assignment. Now, they may be up all night sketching now.
At the warehouse, they are shocked to find Coco Rocha, a Canadian editorial supermodel known for being one of the first “digital models.” I doubt there is a single big name designer she has not worked with.
She also teaches modeling. She’s also worked with Project Runway before, and with Zac Posen and Christian Siriano on their collections. She’s a big fucking deal.

The designers are tasked to create an editorial look for a photoshoot. It sounds like they will have to choose one picture to submit to the judges. They will also be picking one prop item to use in their photoshoot after they choose their fabric. Finally, you guys got what you wanted. They are all going to use the same model this week. So you can quit whining every time the person with a plus sized model goes home. This is the best challenge of the season so far!
Who’s In The Mood To Win?
The final five spend the next morning sketching some crazy ideas. And then it’s time to head to Mood to make the critical fabric choices. Aaron literally went home last week because he chose to work with neoprene. Choose carefully everyone! WOW! I just realized Bones is the last man standing! We could literally have an all female final three. But, something tells me it will be Bones, Shantall and…. Chasity? Or not…Kristina is also really good. They have $800 to shop and only thirty minutes. I can’t by anything clothes related in thirty minutes. I like to take my time.

Bones tells Christian that he is thinking something with “tight legs.” Christian makes it clear that is a bad idea. Already, Bones is stalking off laughing nervously. Why do people wait to the last hour to realize they should have listened to Christian? The photo needs to show movement! Come on, Bones! Is Coral the macramé queen? Yes! I just went back to look and answered my own question because I have all the time in the world tonight. She buys the exact same fabric she used last week in black, and the week before that with Leah in “flesh” except this week it is yellow. If I am seeing this the judges will as well. She has to be going home this week. She was in the bottom last week with the same damn fabric!

How Do You Get To Final Five Ignoring Christian Siriano? HOW?
Kristina, who should have learned from last week about her desire to use all the fabrics in the store for one outfit, has not. She’s running around trying to get more employees to come cut her eleventy billion fabrics in the last ten minutes. Shantall is doing a huge all red gown. Christian sees Chasity picking red as well as Shantall and lets her know. She continues on with her plan and also is using black lace. Say it with me, ” FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LISTEN TO CHRISTIAN SIRIANO!” Next, they are off to choose their prop. Chasity will go first and then select the next person and so forth. I already predict she will pick Bones. Because, females in a competition can be catty.

Chasity is an idiot. She chose a wooden pallet like the kind of pallet crap is shipped on. NO. You need something with height. Somebody better pick the damn ladder! As predicted, Bones goes next. He picks some kind of balls. If I figure it out I’m edit it in later. Okay, they are called poi balls. They are two “balls” on the opposite end of a rope. You then light them on fire and swing the around. Alrighty then. He is using fabric instead of fire, because fabric and fire are sort of the same thing. WTF? Kristen chooses a blue container on rollers. Okay. Coral wisely chose the big fan. Shantall wanted it and realizes they are all afraid of her. As she says, they should be. Shantall takes the ladder. So she got the best prop anyway, in my opinion.

Into The Workroom
Bones is making a deep blue furlike dress. I like the material, it could work. Then, he lost me with the huge oversized denim jacket covering up the beautiful blue fabric. At least let there be a reveal? We are thirteen minutes in and I am already at a thousand words. This is what happens when I have too much time. LOL.
Christian comes in and already hates Coral’s look. Her material and look isn’t even something the fan would work well with. Coral is having a breakdown. On to Bones. He loves the blue fabric and is concerned about the denim cocoon as well.
Then, Bones says he wanted to glue some of the blue fringe on her head as bangs. I cannot even describe Christian’s look, but I am sure it is probably similar to yours. He stresses but starts focusing on the beautiful blue dress.

I have no idea what Kristina is doing other than huge sleeves and trousers. All in wildly different colors. Christian seems…amused. She hasn’t done much yet so who knows. Shantall of all people may be in trouble. She’s given herself more work that time may allow. Her giant red dress has nothing on the mannequin yet. She’s doing a lot of unnecessary work with texture. Christian tries to warn her of basically the same thing. I don’t know what Chasity’s red dress is going to be just yet. And Neither does Christian. Bones is starting to worry about his jacket. Coral is going to macramé… something. Because Jesus compels her to every week, apparently.

Back To The Barracks
The Fabulous Five return to the townhouse. Shantall gets a video call with her husband, their son and her sister and brother in law. They are all together in Miami. Her son, a toddler has a speech delay. So, she freaks out when he calls her “mama” for the first time. So sweet. The next day back in the workroom, Chasity tries to tell Bones that the giant denim cocoon is covering up his beautiful dress. He’s not listening. Hopefully Coco will take it off or open it wide, or something. Meanwhile, over in the battle of the red dresses, Shantall realizes that Chasity is now making the same sleeves she was. So she has to come up with new sleeves.

Christian arrives to the workroom with Rocha and they are all star struck by her for the most part. She’s very tall. She is 5’10” with no shoes. Chasity still has no dress! Coral’s Yellow macramé version 4.5 is not working with the draped “sleeves” for lack of a better word. She’s going to make them shorter and fuller. Rocha doesn’t seem optimistic. Kristina’s monstrosity is even worse. She has green paper pans and a GINORMOUS bright blue coat? cocoon? I have no idea what this is. Coco is worried that she is going to be in a blue bin in a blue dress (and green paper pants!) and that it’s too much.

Did I Mention No One Listens To Christian???
Next, we get to Bone’s beautiful dress. He wants to tighten to restrict Coco’s leg movement even more! Coco is concerned about that. Both Christian and Coco AND ME BUT HE NEVER LISTENS TO ME tell him to lose the denim crap. Christian also says Bones needs to work on perfecting the dress. Bones wants to make a “do-rag” for her out of the blue material. Because, that is smarter than listening to CHRISTIAN FUCKING SIRIANO! Shantal has changed the sleeves and added a white train to her red dress. Christian suggests nipping in the sides a bit. AND SHE AGREES! Oh wait, the train is muslin. She still has to make the train! #OldPeopleEyes

Coco likes Chasity’s concept, but the dress seems incomplete to her. She needs to do more to get it up to par. Coco basically says at the moment she has very little to work with during the photo shoot. Chasity needs to get to work! Coco leaves and Christian tells everyone that Coco will take herself to hair and makeup tomorrow. They will go to their shoots one at a time and will not be able to see each other’s shoot. Bones is done so he his helping everyone else. Shouldn’t he be perfecting his own look? Kristina keeps hacking at her paper pants. Coral is also helping Chasity. No one offers to help Shantall. She doesn’t take it well. That must hurt her feelings. She feels like she is not part of the group. 🙁

Photo Shoot Day!
Everyone is feeling the pressure. The judges are there for the photoshoot! I thought they were going to go off one photo. Shantall’s red gown on a red ladder is up first. Even though she got last pick, I still think she has the best prop! And she is FANTASTIC when it comes to instructing Coco and getting the shot she wants. She will have many to choose from. Up next is Coral. Her dress came out great actually. But, she really didn’t get the best photos. She didn’t manage her shoot very well.

Next, we have Chasity. She did great. I love the boots she chose. And the whole pallet choice actually worked. Bones lost his cocoon. But, he is lousy at directing a shoot. Coco Rocha doesn’t need your advice, Bones. The Bones from the beginning of the season comes out at a really bad time. Kristina’s neon green paper pants look great in the photos! She’s not out of this yet! But the ability to choose the right photo is CRUCIAL.

The Judges Give Their Critiques To The Designers
Oh! Elaine says they have all scored their designs that are in front of the runway on display. AND they are also scoring their photos. I thought it would be based solely on the best photo. Apparently it does because, next she says, “ultimately it all comes down to whether you got the shot. The judges liked her choice of the red ladder. See? I am always right. Why don’t they listen to me? Brandon says the fact that every aspect of this competition for her was explained in one word, “passion” was remarkable and it all made sense. She will win. The photo is exceptional, in my opinion.

Coral tries to make the fourth version of the same dress sound new. The judges seem to love it. Again. Coco told her to take more control next time. Coral asked for Coco’s autograph before the shoot, and was star struck during the shoot. Chasity explains her Disney villain theme. Brandon said it looked very 80s costume and that his mother probably has that dress. OUCH! But he LOVES the photo. Nina didn’t get the concept. Elaine doesn’t like it either.
Bones tries to defend restricting Coco’s leg movements. Coco, who has been kind to everyone to this point, says that Bones frustrated her with all of his direction. Elaine says this was the best, most streamlined and conservative look she has seen from him. But it didn’t photograph well. Bones blames the lighting! Oh no! Finally, It’s Kristina’s turn. Oh I get it now. The paper pants represented the paper bag she used in a previous challenge. Nina sums it up, this was a compilation of nods to her greatest hits. She also says that of all the looks it was the most modern, she was the only one who made pants and she was the only one with a contrasting color. But she didn’t like the choice of the photo, or her choice of the prop. I ended up liking the prop with the photo. Nina likes the shot. So do I.

The Judges Deliberate Privately
Shantall and Coral are the top two? CORAL?! How do they not see she uses the same fabric in a different color every week? Shantall is clearly the winner. That said, Coral’s look in the photo was pretty amazing. I can see her winning. Chasity is in the bottom. Coco says that Chasity was the best designer to work with. She’s already hinting that she wants Bones to go home for being such a know-it-all on the shoot. The judges think Chasity is inconsistent. She’s a hero and then a zero. This was NOT a zero. On to Bones, Coco hated working with him at the shoot. She was exhausted by the whole thing. Elaine says that his work has not been refined enough. Nina says it is too late in the game for Bones. They seem to think Kristina pulled it off.

After that, I have no idea what these judges will do. It’s kind of a shock every week at this point. I don’t even know who is going home. I feel like Shantall will win. And she did, for the fourth time. Coral is safe. Bones is out. You don’t treat a supermodel like that, Bones. Chasity and Kristina both cry because Bones is leaving. It’s an all female finale four! Has that ever happened before? Losing any of these girls next week is going to be HARD. Bones give Christian a do-rag as a parting gift.
UPDATE! SORRY FOR THE LONG WAIT. I’VE BEEN CHECKING WITH MEDIA VILLAGE FOR 17 HOURS! Also, these photos are NOT the ones the designers chose to submit to the judges. I just selected one for each of them.
Check out Bones’ exit interview with Christian below.
Thanks TT – excited for this show and recap!
Shantall should have won! Bravo! Bones material was gorgeous – so disappointed he didn’t make it movable from the waist down!
Ok did anyone see the previews where Coco said “that would have last 2 seconds at one of my shoots” – pretty sure referring to Bones but I never saw it on the actual show?? Did anyone else??
I agree, Melcle… I didn’t hear it in the actual show either, but like you, I assumed it referred to Bones.
Fantastic episode!! I like how they have the designers deal with different aspects of fashion. The photograph challenge has always been good. I still remember Mychael Knight’s. And I like the set design aspect. I loved the room challenge in Season 17 with Sebastian and Garo and Hester.
OK thanks! Wasn’t sure if I just completely missed it!
I loved Mychael Knight – so sad about his death! RIP
Hated to see Bones go, if his dress had been full and fluid at the bottom maybe he could have made it through. It was funny when he gave Christian the do-rag and called him CC. 😹 Christian told him to call him if he needed anything, that’s pretty good I’d say! Shantall’s dress was pretty but the ladder as the prop made the shot. It worked. You wonder what the outcome would be if those same designs were judged walking the runway. Alas, we shall never know. Christina’s blue rolling cart prop matching her paper bag pants was too distracting and pointless. Coral’s dress was cool with the boots. Coco’s funky black dress at the end was pretty to me. Shantell deserved the win. It was a sweet moment with her son and family.
paper bag pants outfit, I meant to say. 😋
Thanks for posting the aftershow. I do get a kick out of Christian and his barbs. It was an interesting challenge. Someone needs to tell Coral there’s no crying in the design room. 🙄. I liked her dress design although bright yellow is a least favorite color and I am not a fan of the pseudo crochet fabric she keeps using either.
I would have liked Bones look more without the doodads…do rag, straps, coat, etc. Shantal deserved her win. I wonder if some of the resentment towards her isn’t due to her intense focus. She’s not playing.
I thought that Coral chose yellow because when they met Coco in the warehouse, she was wearing yellow and it showcased well. To me, she took an easy way out in that regard and I marked her down for it. (They never listen to me either.) This was a very fun challenge. I was sorry to see Bones go though. I won’t swear to it, but I think we have had all females in the final 3 before.
Yes! FINALLY! I now understand all of the praise over all of the years for Coco Rocha! She is MAGNIFICENT!
Bones had TWO JOBS TO DO — listen to Christian AND Coco (Rocha and Chanel!). He did neither. I can see where his insecurities present as aggression, but that makes for a negative impression. Just the opposite of his collaboration with Shannon Storms.
I am not as big of a fan of Kristina as the judges and I think Coral’s dress looked cheap. It wasn’t Coco’s favorite either, but it did look SPECTACULAR in the photo. Photo editing is an oft-overlooked and under-appreciated skill. In this challenge, it eliminated two designers from the win. I HATED Chasity’s look — except for the skirt. But the cheapo top … YUCK! Enough with that sleeve already! Red and black can skew cheap Fredrick’s of Hollywood very easily — and it did. So wrong.
Sad to see Bones go, but it was time. As for our girls — this is one of the times when I hope the judges will let there be FOUR finalists.
ONE MORE THING: Who knew how ADORABLE AND SEXY Christian would look in a do-rag!
One more one more thing. Shantal’s dress … divine.
I felt bad when she felt left out. But I did not get a negative vibe. I think it was because Kristina and Chasity were a mess and Shantal had everything under control. No one doubted that in her deft hands, her gown would get done.
The photo captured everything … proving the “one picture, 1000 words.” One word: passion. As Brandon said, the photo clearly conveyed her vision. But when she said Coco looked “like an angel on fire,” those were some powerful words.
I WOULD LIKE TO POINT OUT THAT I HAD SEVENTEEN HOURS MINUS THE THREE HOUR NAP I TOOK BECAUSE I HAD FAMILY BUSINESS TO ATTEND TO THAT I HAD WAY FEWER TYPOS AND FUCKUPS THAN USUAL. You are WELCOME.
I’m JUST SAYING! Also it was like TWO THOUSAND WORDS LONG. I can type and spell and use proper grammar when I need too. LOL. Also I usually edit the guest writers because that’s my job and they are not writing with a one hour time limit that I impose on myself. TAKE THAT HATERS!
Also sorry if this post has weird spacing and crap. What I see when I am writing is not WYSIWYG but it usually works better than this and there is weird spacing, Most of you are mobile readers so maybe it worked better or worse for y’all?
I have cried at the end of every episode of this season. I didn’t this time. I did grow like Bones throughout this season though.
I LOVED the after show clip! I have not watched them but that was so great I wish I had. Not sure who I am rooting for to win. Need to think back over the entire show and all of their looks. Usually my favorite never wins because I have no high fashion sense. What I think is hideous will be the judges favorite. If they ever do Project Runway Comfy Couch Old Lady No Bra Wearin’ Sweat Pants Covered in Pet Hair Edition. . .I would be a great guest judge!
CAN I BE CO-Judge? Can I smoke too many cigarettes and drink wine???? PLEASE SAY YES!
Abso-effin-lutely! I am ex-smoker but I would let you fire up. I am sure I have some old ashtrays around here somewhere! I’ve got us covered on the wine! Just let me know when you’re on your way and I will shove a dog or cat over to make room for you!
I must be looking in the mirror! I think we are the BEST judges of high fashion! As we comment on how fabric moves and the lighting while we wear our fuzzy socks and bathrobes
OMG! I never laughed so hard!
You described me to a TT!! The pet hair took me out!
YOU are hilarious! Between TT and you., I almost peed my pants laughing! Thanks to both of you!
The editing is definitely painting a picture of Shantall as competitive and being iced out by the rest of the group, whether it really happened or not. Remember last week when they showed her pushing back against Kristina at Mood at the notions counter, and Kristina commenting that ‘that vibe is unnecessary’? Maybe production needs to do that because all the designers have been so nice this season. Also remember that Shantall was on Project Runway Latin America, where she came in second. So, she has experience in the tricks of the trade, what she needs to do to win (though obviously she did fail once this season and almost failed two weeks about with that white leather).
I really don’t understand how Coral is still there. Like you pointed out, TT, there is a sameness to all her designs, it’s always some kind of macrame. I looked at her designer website and it’s all the same garment. I think Nina has a weakness for the contestants from Latin America and she’s been saving her each week.
Similarly, I think Chastity is too much of the same thing. Like Brandon said, enough with the princesses! She departed from that last week with her tiger print, but this week it was back with the Disney princess/villain/whatever. She needs to develop more of an edge.
I miss Aaron Michael. I think he just got stressed out and lost his mind for the day. They are running them ragged.
I miss him too!💙
I wish he could’ve been saved.
Coral’s macrame is not even that great or inspirational, it is a few square knots, not a big deal. It is not a fashion statement, it is getting old fast and is a bad idea for a “signature”. What saved her was the skirt, which was pretty cool.
Bones had to go, but he made an impression and he wont be forgotten. He was already a bartender on WWHL!
This was a great challenge, really entertaining to watch.
Yes. She pics fabrics with designs and does the knit crap over it. I’m over her and Kristina.
The two of them…. I can do their designs by now.
She could at least throw in a beautiful JOSEPHINE KNOT, right!? (Signed, Former Hippie Macrame & Tie Dye Girl)
It really was Bones’ time to go! To have the most talented supermodel noted for her movement, then wrap up her legs…WTH? Shantal deserved the win. Her dress was beautiful and she ran the shoot like a pro. Stunning photo! My girl Chasity really missed the mark this week 😢. I’m getting tired of Coral and that same fabric week after week. She gets to shop at freaking MOOD for goodness sake! Kristina and her paper pants and that fugly prop did not do anything for me. Next week will be SO interesting! Let’s hope everyone actually listens to FREAKING CHRISTIAN SIRIANO!!!!
Bones, who I thought should’ve been gone a long time ago, finally had something so cool and different from the others and then blew it. The head gear, the wrap and mostly that ribbon that was thrown on–what the heck was that?! Completely ruined the lines of the dress, the fabric and the fantastic silhouettes that Coco could’ve done with it.
Missed Aaron for this one, he was robbed last week.
I did love the winner but I feel like we’ve seen photos with models on ladders. The one that used the pallets could have made them into an awkward pile up instead of perfectly stacked. Looked like Coco was being put on an apple box for height, not a prop.
But, man, you can see why Coco is a super model. That is real talent the way she moves. What a fun episode.
Oh, and Swatch! I don’t remember seeing him this year–was so happy to spot him around the shop!
Me too. Love Swatch
I had read that contestants cannot leave until it is all over. Also the pace of oh someone just won now onto another challenge and sleep deprivation and alcohol make contestants break under pressure. What a toxic work environment. The reason Shantell is being iced out is because the others fear she has already been chosen the winner. Personally I think Kristina has already been chosen and they are head faking.
So many times Kristina and Coral should have been sent home but instead they get rid of Aaron and others. Chasity is a boss designer but Shantell I think has more experience. This year has great designs, I would love to be a couch judge with cat hair and ice cream cones. Cones help me from eating too much 😊. Thanks for the comments I love them as much as the recaps.
Bones really grew on me. I understand why he went but it was sad nonetheless.
Am I the only one who sees Kristina as a one trick pony? Every challenge I can tell you what she will design. It will be pants. Jacket thing with one side long one cropped. Pieces of fabric drop off on the other side.
Why don’t the judges call her out? She makes the same thing every time.
Great recap! Bones was his own worst enemy this week. Shantall deserved the win and, unless she really blows it next week, she’ll probably win it all.
Can you imagine what Octiva and Aaron would have designed for this challenge?? It would have been breath taking.
I’m not a fan of Christina’s designs. I don’t get why Nina loves her pants and weird layering.
I liked Bones’ dress till he put all the other things on it. I felt the simple dress would’ve been enough. With maybe a bit more room.
Coral is a dressmaker who uses the same intricate fabric to distract from her lack of design skills and lack of creativity.
The detailed fabric was interesting at first and she used it well, but now she is exposed.
There I said it. She seems very sweet so it is hard to criticize.
I’m loving the season, Christina, Chastity and Chantal are great and I look forward to seeing their collections. Chantal may edge out everyone with her collection.
