After a nineteen month pitstop, on tonight’s TAR 33 recap we join Phil in Switzerland to welcome back the racers whose schedules allowed them to return. I want to go to Switzerland, but it is so expensive! I need a sugar daddy! Four teams could not come back. Sam and Connie, ( They weren’t very good at the game), Anthony & Spencer (Team Heroes) sad about that loss, Taylor and Isaiah (Team Gay Marriage) and Caro and Ray (Team Love Island, they broke up, lol). The good news is Michael and Moe (Team Singing Cops), and the father daughter team, Arun and Natalia are back! YAY! I couldn’t have chosen two better teams to return.
Rising To New Heights!
Natalia got married. The flight attendants were both laid off. The twins lost their grandmother to covid. They are taking extreme measures to keep everyone safe. No public transportation at all. Privately chartered planes chartered buses, etc. There will be multiple buses first come first served. The pack is going to take a cable car 8,000 above sea level. Ryan and Dusty have both done some high altitude training. Akbar and Sheri ( married educators) are not excited at all by the height. They are also on the last bus. Switzerland looks like a postcard.

They all get on the same terrifying cable car. I would not be able to do that. I’m not even that fond of the funicular to the top of Montmartre. The road block requires one team to dangle themselves off a rope while hiking for a clue. Sheri agrees to do it for Team Educator, but she is terrified. Akbar is regretting letting her do it. The thing is that everyone is locked into the same line, so the order really can’t change while dangling off the side of a mountain. Eventually, they get to a place where they can race. On the way back Penn was able to pass a couple of teams. Poor terrified Sheri is not just at the back of the pack she’s way back there. Everyone else is going back and are passing her Sheri on the way encouraging her. #sportsmanship.
Timing Is Everything!
The teams all have to go back down on the gondolas; however, the gondolas leave when they leave and if you miss one it’s 20 minutes or so before the next one arrives. Ryan and Dusty (wrongfully convicted, best friends) are the first to move on to the next leg of the race. Kim and Penn (Youtubers) are in second. Arun and Natalia are third. Lulu and Lala are in fourth. Rachel and Kayla are in fifth. Michael and Moe (Singing Cops) are in sixth. Akbar and Sheri are in last place and the only one to miss the cable car. Bless her heart, Sheri is giving it all she’s got. But, she is struggling to breath at that altitude.

As Sheri struggles to complete the roadblock the others all get of the same gondola and head off to the detour by car. Thankfully the cars are automatic. Moe and Michael end up in the lead and are the first to arrive. The choices are Punch It or Toss It? If they choose Punch it they have to craft a leather belt with ornaments in the right order that tell a story. If they choose Toss it, they have to learn a choreographer flag routine. So, I say PUNCH IT is the way to go here. Most everyone is choosing Toss It! Moe and Michael and Arun and Natalia choose Punch it. Moe and Michael got lost and ended up back where they started. But, the finally find the belt making challenge.
Decisions, Decisions
At Toss it, Penn was hoping it was going to be basketball. Kim is in her element. Again, punch it is the easiest one by far. Ryan and Dusty decide they are not cut out to be color guards and change to the punch it option. Or not. They should have bailed. I’m already hoping this is a non-elimination round. I don’t want Akbar and Sheri to go home. She damn near killed herself on that mountain. Over at Punch It, Michael and Moe appear to be telling their story backwards. Well, I’ll be damned Ryan and Dusty knocked the flag routine out and remain in first place.

Ryan and Dusty are off to the pitstop. Penn is doing well with the flags. Kim’s arms are wearing out with all the practice. The flag is heavy. But they finally get it and are in second place. The twins come out of nowhere and rock the flags and are in third place. Raquel and Cayla take fourth place. Oddly no one from Punch It is done yet. Sheri and Akbar are finally at the roadblack and choose flags.
Hitting The Mat!
Ryan and Dusty come in first. The won $2,500 each. Penn and Kim hit the mat second. Arun and Natalia get their belt right. Michael and Mo realize they did theirs backwards and have to start over. This give Akbar and Sheri a chance. Raquel and Cayla hit the mat third and Lala and Lulu take fourth. These two teams are helping each other because they both want an all female team to win. Oh no! Arun and Natalia are lost. Like in the country with the Swiss Miss yodeling lady and cows lost. Akbar and Sheri are doing flags. Akbar is so rude to Sheri. BUT THEN THEY GET IT! THEY THINK THEY ARE LAST BUT THEY ARE NOT!

Finally, Michael and Moe get their belt done. I don’t want any of the last three to go home. Then, a the mat Phil messes with them. They are team number five. Michael and Moe and Arum and Natalia are both still searching for the final mat. Arum and Natalia beat them there. Sadly, Micheal and Moe are eliminated. I was hoping it was a non-elimination leg.
Next Week: We are off to Italy I think and once again Akbar is going to let Sheri do a very scary height challenge. She’s literally carrying that man on her back this race.
Update on why the four teams did not return.
Taylor and Isaiah (Team Gay Marriage) did return to restart the race and then immediately found out that Taylor’s brother had died of Covid and went home immediately.
For Anthony and Spencer (Team Heroes) , Anthony told costars Lulu and Lala Gonzalez the two “definitely wanted to come back,” but a lot had changed in 19 months. “I had actually just started a career job … I kinda just got the position I had been wanting for a while and I couldn’t, at that time in my life, I couldn’t take that much time off,” he added.
Spencer said he was “ready to rock” and added the two were “both sad” they couldn’t return. “It’s just a timing thing, really,” said Anthony.
Sam and Connie (???) confirmed her pregnancy kept them from returning. The two recently welcomed a baby boy, with Connie saying she couldn’t return at seven months pregnant.
And The Love Island Team broke up, as we knew.
My world has come to an end. Meatloaf has passed. 😢
I wish they would just start listing the names of people who are still alive. People are dropping like flies. I see a Breaking News partial headline in my mailbox. Whatever the name is, they are usually dead. It’s like three or four a day. I’ve become numb to it all.
I hope they put his quote “If I die, I die” on his tombstone, stupid anti-vaxxer.
Thanks for recap & update. I’m saving this episode for the weekend because it’s cold and dreary here and I need something to look forward to. I’m sad that team heroes couldn’t return but really glad the father/daughter team got another chance.
I still don’t understand why the belt making took longer than learning how to be a color guard!
Also, I’m on the fence about recapping this. Pretty much nobody is reading them, and I don’t really blame them. If you don’t watch the show it makes no sense, because it is hard enough to keep all the teams straight when you do watch. And if you do watch it like Team A is in the lead and Team J is struggling. It feels sort of recapping the Boston Marathon: “Runner 2491 had taken the lead! Meanwhile the trailing back falls further behind.” Not interesting.
The interesting part of this episode was Sheri who was a REAL TROOPER and faced her fears and never gave up. I CANNOT BELIEVE that Akbar is going to let her do the height challenge (that looks even scarier than this week’s!!!!) even after he complained about her coming in last and kept saying he should have just done it himself. I LOVE Sheri but I am not a fan of Akbar. I think he is a coach. He needs to understand that he is NOT THE COACH in this situation and A HUSBAND, and a PARTNER on a team of TWO. Sheri is playing her heart out and from what we are shown he can’t even give her praise for her heart and determination. He annoys me.
Dude you can’t bail on me with recaps now. Literally the first season I’ve ever watched because YOU SAID I WOULD LIKE IT AND NOW I AM HOOKED. It’s like the highlight of my week now until Survivor is back. I might even go back to BB since Celebrity one is coming.
Also, has anyone made tacos recently? Because they changed the recipe on Old El Paso, Taco Bell, and McCormick seasoning packets and they tasted like ass. I just want some damn tacos in the cold and I can’t find a fucking seasoning packet to save my life. Tried 3 times and they all went in the trash because, inedible. And for some reason Ortega is sold out on Amazon. TF?
I’m eating my way though winter. I’m fat and can’t control my food. Clearly eating my feelings. I’m now even hitting the Haagen Dazs on the reg. I’m going to have to make myself do the Lentil thing. FML 😂
If you have a decent spice rack, you can make your own taco seasoning. The base is basically chili powder (it has lots of stuff in there mixed already) then add some cumin, paprika and oregano in smaller amounts to your tasting.
I buy lots of Creole spices One is called SLAY YO MAMMA (lol) and it would work as well. I’d add cumin because I love cumin.
It’s not that I really mind recapping, though it is time consuming and sort of takes some of the fun out of watching. But, I think it was last season when teams were working in groups and there was all sorts of backstabbing and gossiping about teams they don’t like. These people all just seem happy to be there. We could use a little more drama than just Akbar being kind of a dick.
I really like the Frontera brand taco skillet sauce from Chef Rick Baylis. Little more expensive, but so GOOD.
IJC just google Taco Seasoning and choose the recipe you like best. Homemade is the bomb! And it’s easy.
No I read the recaps Tegna is keeping cbs off dish so this is how I follow the show. I enjoy knowing what happens on a favorite
Alrighty then. I’ll try to figure out a way to make things more interesting to read. 🙂
Please dont stop. I read your recaps. I just dont post comments (im a bit shy like that).
I’m a bit lonely lately. Don’t be shy. I can be harsh but you will be fine. Thanks for commenting.
Aw thank u! I enjoy ur snark. Its entertaining. U have a lot of regulars and i never want to interrupt conversations and feel like an interloper.
The TAR discussions are generally very low key here. Just stay away from anything related in any way to politics. THAT’s when all hell breaks loose. The TAR and Big Brother and non Bravo shows have pretty easy going comments. 🙂
OMG I couldn’t agree more. Akbar is an asshole. Sheri facing her fears should have been celebrated. And he needs to be the one base-jumping…since he can do EVERYTHING faster and better. Glad the other teams came back.
Please keep recapping!
I enjoy the recaps.
Thanks. I think they are kind of boring. I’ll try to find a way to make them better.
Thanks for recap! I was hoping for non-elimination leg too. Random thoughts!
*I always think of Kim & Penn as Team Xmas Jammies 😂
*For a coach, Akbar can sure get negative!!! Dude, attitude adjustment.
*Switzerland is beautiful
While you were typing, I was writing an entire RANT about Akbar. Kim and Penn are growing on me. As a child I was dragged on many European trips. We had to Leave Libya once or twice a year. Every year my mother decided to go to every single place we could for five minutes because she wanted to go back to the US. We stayed a bit over five years because the money was good. LOL.
I did get to see more of Switzerland because we dropped my brother off and boarding school there and also went back as part of a whirlwind tour. The main thing I remember was going to the (cheap, because my parents were depression babies. My mother used Europe on $5 a day to plan trips. The current edition was Europe on $25 a day ) Restaurant way up in the mountains. My vague memory is that it was more like a cabin, You could look over the mountains and see all the cows wandering around down below. That is where I had real Raclettes. They bring you a boiled potato and melt fancy cheese table side. You paid by the number of potatoes. IT WAS DELICIOUS. Who doesn’t like cheesy potatoes? I also remember actually paying attention to what was outside the windows in Switzerland because it was so beautiful.
OH Wow- I remember Europe on $25 a day! In college in the 80’s my (now) husband and I used the well-worn book to backpack around Europe and it was an education and a blast. I’ve tried describing it to our college-aged kids and they can’t understand relying on a book to navigate travel. No cell phones? How do you survive?!
In some places a bottle of wine was less expensive than a bottle of water so that was fun : ))
I just read your rant. SPOT ON! Please keep recapping. I need somewhere to vent/rant/cheer on the teams!! Plus, you gave me the tea on why the other couple didn’t return!!!
LOL hopefully there will be more to rant about this week. These people are all so NICE! LOL.
I’m with you, TT! I would go back to Switzerland in a heartbeat. My favorite place of all time is Zermatt. Gorgeous! And, yes, raclette is amazing.
Right? Only in Switzerland would a plain potato with cheese be sofa king delicious!
I miss TAR
I don’t miss the Bravo shows I’ve quit. It feels like you’re still doing lip service to crap like Porshas show. I too would rather read Before the 90 Days, or anything you actually enjoy recapping.
Please keep recapping! I’ve watched TAR from the first one and was overjoyed that you had taken it on! Have to wait for the day after as it is on late here.
Thank you again!
p.s. Akbar is an ass
I read your posts about TAR every week and really enjoy them! Please don’t abandon them!
Akbar is a real asshat, isn’t he? I thought their backstory was very interesting and am disappointed in his behavior. I was hoping that this round was a non-elimination one, too…hated to see the Singing Cops go, too!
After watching this episode, my husband is dying to go to Switzerland. It’s just so expensive. We’re going to Germany and Austria in September. Close enough. TAR is my favorite show. I would love to be a participant but they usually don’t pick out of shape older people without an online following. Don’t stop recapping please.
I listened to Penn & Kim’s podcast, and apparently the eliminated teams that came back had an extra task. That’s why Punch It took so long. It had something to do with chopping a 6 foot head of lettuce or something? Apparently there are press photos of it.
I love that you recap this. I feel like it’s not a show a ton of people watch. and YES!! Akbar. I keep trying to give him the benefit of the doubt because every other team is so likable but I can’t. Also, I’m surprised that team came back after the break still not in great shape. it’s a lot of money, go for a run (I say this having done nothing physical during the ‘Vid). I thought Penn was going to be super annoying. I love their videos but he seems like a LOT. but I really like them. they seem to have a great relationship. I feel like I’m rooting for every team!! first time that has ever happened and I’ve watched this show from season 1.
A lot more people watch this than the Bravo stuff. It’s just that somehow my site became all about Bravo because I have a good bravo source. I am much more into TAR, and Celebrity Big Brother is coming soon. I pray that some Bravo person is on there so people will read it,LOL.
