TAR 33 Recap: Who Has This One In The Bag?

January 12, 2022 by tamaratattles 20 Comments

TAR 33 RecapI have good news and bad news for this TAR recap. The good news is for me. It is only one hour. I love this show but recapping two hours last week when I didn’t even know the names of the racers yet was A LOT. The bad news for all of us is that it is only an hour. Because, it’s a great show. This is technically episode three. And at the end of the episode, it all gets shut down due to Covid. Next week we will pick up again a year and a half later and I think things will be a lot different next week. But first we have to get through the “drive a stick shift” episode.

As I mentioned last week, THESE PEOPLE ARE SO NOT PREPARED FOR THIS SHOW!  Driving a stick shift, extensive knowledge of other countries, their leaders, their flags and such is a bare minimum requirement. As is, you know, RUNNING, because IT IS A RACE? I am not impressed with this group. But let’s see how they make out this week.

TAR 33 RecapAnd Just Like That, We Are Off To Glasgow

Yay! It’s time for AMAZING RACE! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this show! It’s time to move on to Scotland. They leave by train from London to Glasgow. Oh, that might be a trip I would like to take. I tend to skip London. I swear it is because of childhood trauma where I thought we were going to the circus and we went to “Piccadilly Circus” which is like a roundabout or some dumb shit. Don’t tell a child you are going to the circus and then take them to like some busy road of bullshit. But still, I do want to do train travel and I would love to visit Glasgow by train. 🙂 I trust the trains in the UK more than um, Amtrak.

Once they arrive in Glasgow, it’s time to see who can drive a stick. Once again it is no one. WTF? The hard part is driving on the wrong side of the road. I can drive a stick but we would all die if I had to drive on the wrong side of the road with the steering wheel on the wrong side. Somehow, team kinda old (but not really) people find the clue box first. Oh hell, they have to assemble a bag pipe and play with actual bag pipers? I don’t know that I could do that. Team not really that old people are first to complete it.

TAR 33 RecapAnd Off We Go…

Team not really older Kim and Penn are in the lead! Others are still struggling in stop and go traffic. Caro and Ray are really freaking out. Kim and Penn reach the detour. They either have to learn and sing a Scottish song. Or they have to rebuild a wooden barrel.  Lord, I could not do either of these either. Kim and Penn seem to be killing the song performance. But they still have to learn the dance. Most of the guys are doing the barrel thing. It’s complicated and requires lots of muscle. Back at the bagpipe challenge, Natalie give one of the guys teams tips to get the bagpipe assembled.

I love this show! Akbar and Sheri really struggled at the bagpipe challenge. It’s the barrel challenge or the singing challenge. People begin to struggle here. I’m starting to really like Kim and Penn. Penn is super tall. It’s already time for the finish line? I don’t want it to be over!  Arun and Natalie are still in the car. 🙁  I’m worried about them. She wants to change their detour but her dad doesn’t think he can learn the song.  Akbar and Sheri are still in the car. 🙁

At the Finish Line

Kim and Penn are the FIRST TO ARRIVE AT THE PIT STOP! YAY! They are doing great! He is at least a foot and a half taller than her! Oh no. I am worried about the black gay couple now. But they made it! Oh no, I love both of the final teams. I don’t want anyone to lose.:(  I hate the the Indian father and daughter are at the end. I hope they all come back after Covid.  Please let this be a non-elimination week! The last two teams are neck and neck. Akabar and Sheri the educators are team number nine. Please don’t send the father daughter team home, they did so well!  NOOOOOOOOOOOO! They are going home 🙁  Sometimes I hate this game.

Phil calls everyone in and cancels filming until after the Covid virus passes. Nineteen months later, the remaining teams pick up the game again in Switzerland. And there we will pick up the game next week. Oh it looks like some teams don’t come back. I hope that means that the father daughter team returns. Thanks for watching this with me. It really is one of the best shows on TV!

I did not see Caro-Ray in the “on the next episode” clip at the end.

Could not tell who else was missing.

Are they the Love Island team? I still don’t know who everyone is yet. I imagine that some people may not have been able to readjust their schedules to come back 19 months later.

Honestly, I have no memory of them even being on the show. Then again, I can’t remember shit with this Covid brain. My brain barely worked BEFORE COVID.

Thanks for the recap! I missed a bunch of it last night because I was too busy with Married at First Sight. Sad for the father daughter team. I too hope they return.

I carefully paused the scene from the upcoming episode and my guess is both the eliminated teams come back! Love Island, the married gay guys, and the guys who foiled the terrorists aren’t there. I think at least one of those guys was in the military so that makes sense, and I agree that Love Island probably broke up. Love the Race! Thanks for recapping it!

Holy shit. We agree on something. The twins annoy the fuck out of me for some reason. And I LOVE the heroes. Lol!

Favorite show. I have watched all seasons, all episodes of AR, Project Runway and Top Chef.

In my prior house, a neighbor played bagpipes every Sunday afternoon. Thank goodness he was pretty good, because a little bagpipe music goes a long way. I did love them twirling the drum sticks and how the first couple threw themselves into the dance.

Our neighbor directly next door took up the bagpipes during the shutdown. She doesn’t believe in AC so during the spring, summer and fall her windows are all open. She practiced every day around 5 for MONTHS. She’s Scottish as are we but let me tell you, it is PAINFUL to hear someone just learning. She got COVID and recovered but felt it would be too much on her lungs to continue playing. I’m sure you can imagine our deep sadness. 😉

LOL! There must be a lot of closet bag pipe players. Who knew? I had a neighbor who played them (badly), too! I was living in a temporary apartment after a Hurricane and the walls were paper thin. He played at dusk every day. Maybe they’re just memorable neighbors? I remember thinking how random it was at the time. I guess more common than I realized. Ha!

Penn was my local news anchor on the weekends before he quit and he and his wife became youtube sensations. He is so extra!
I am rooting for the team with the guy (Ryan, I think) that was in jail for 10 years for a murder he didn’t commit. I followed his story on 48hrs and was so glad when he got released.
I love that is show is back!

Just now watching this episode. I’m totally loving this show. But I have a question. The driving stick would be easy for me since I learned on one & my first car was one. Also taught my kids on a stick before automatic. However, I think it would be super confusing if the stick were on the other side as well as driving on the other side of the road. My question is: are the pedals and gear positions reversed too? Because idk if I could do that! It seems super duper hard even for a seasoned stick driver to have everything reversed. Like a lot of driving, it’s learned behavior and just subconscious second nature. Even for a million dollar incentive, I think it would fuck my brain up and I’d stall and burn the clutch out in a matter of minutes, lol!

I looked in to the UK driving situation and most drivers in the UK drive a stick. I looked it up because the gear shift seemed to show more than for gears and in fact there are six (plus reverse). Best I could tell, the clutch seems to be in the same place.

Apparently, sometime in the pandemic the automatic transmission became more popular in the UK for some reason. Previously, it was sort of a macho thing that real drivers don’t drive an automatic. That seems to be changing.

Thanks for researching this. I paused the DVR and saw 6 gears and the reverse was in the opposite direction. I don’t know how someone in the US could practice/prepare for this challenge. All the stuff they make them do seems super difficult. You know you’re old when you can no longer picture yourself trying to do this stuff on your favorite shows, lol.

Oh this season has been VERY tame. Back when I still liked one of my brothers, lol, I used to think we could do it. Then they started the whole diving off the worlds tallest building and ziplining between the mountains in the alps, and rappelling off the sides of building to read clues multiple times, I knew I was out.

There are a lot of things you can practice for, like driving a stick that happens on the majority of seasons. However it’s apparently way weirder in the UK plus the whole wrong side of the road thing. You can learn flags. And especially when you visit the countries because at the end you often have to arrange the flags in the order of the countries you visited.

You can get in racing shape, because there will be A LOT of running. You could learn basic facts about European countries. You could learn Hello, Goodbye, Please and Thank You at the very least in a few languages. You could learn how to read a map. You could practice puzzles. If you recall last season the gay guys who won studied the show and often showed up to challenges saying “we practiced this one.” It’s common sense to watch all the shows, see what challenges repeat and practice.

Just wanted to say, I love this show and was looking forward to watching 2 hrs today, oopsie only 1 hour.

I was really rooting for Team Hero, but I was happy that the cute YouTubers couple won. Loved that team flight attendants completed the barrel competition. Enjoyed the trouser song & dance competition.

I want to go to the Uk! In my 20s, I went to Barcelona and took the train to Nice.
