On tonight’s Project Runway recap, we will go from Billy Porter to Cyndi Lauper in more ways than one. Despite the cheap fake fur the contestants used last week, it was in fact the Haute Couture challenge. This week the challenge is some sort of Chic Loungewear thing. Really? The challenges have been very disappointing thus far. But, let’s see what this week brings.
Christian announces the challenge: couch wear that is comfortable, but chic enough to wear on a night on the town. The designers grab random cards for their models. It’s a one day challenge. And we are off to Mood, where they have only 30 minutes to shop and $400. I hate Octavio’s fabric already. It is some silver sequined mess that doesn’t look comfy.

Fabric Choices Are EVERYTHING!
Did you ever receive frozen meat or something as a delivery and it is in those metallic envelopes. That is what Octavio’s fabric look like. And for some reason is doing stockings with a garter belt? Only a man would consider that comfy chic. Shantall is using her allowed six yards of fabric from home this challenge. I think her fabric would make a great jacket. Christian doesn’t seem to care for it much. Kristina’s look is lovely with lots of blue prints that work well together. Christian suggests she add an unexpected element. She tell him that the model will have a “quilted cup of coffee.” Well, that is certainly unexpected. Is she the one that won with the paper bag on week? I still don’t have all the names straight.

Christian finally gets to Octavio’s monstrosity. He too hates the silver fabric and the garters. There is another hideous option, Octavio’s personal fabric from home. And it’s a horrible, brown quilted mess. Is this Octavio’s week to go home. Just had to make sure all the doors are locked. The Popo is in the hood tonight with sirens. Octavio doesn’t listen to Christian. Or me. That’s a mistake. BIG. HUGE. (Said in my Pretty Woman Voice). I’m worried about Zayden, and so is Christian Siriano. Zayden actually listens to Christian though hopefully he will make some changes. Short skirts are not couch wear unless you are a young teenaged girl. I hope my homeboy fixes this mess. Oh good. He is changes his look completely.

Listen To The Feedback!
Coral also offers advice to Zayden. Then, Christian doesn’t like her fabric. It’s nice but way too dressy. So many of the designers don’t seem to understand the term Couch Couture with emphasis on the word couch. Aaron, who I am still made at from last week, understands the assignment. It nowhere near ready but yes, cashmere is the fabric choice for this challenge. I spent an insane amount of money for a cashmere throw to use on the plane. So worth it. And it doubles as a wrap and can be worn as a scarf to avoid having to put it in any luggage. So, far, I have Aaron for the win without even seeing much of the look at all.

Anna and Octavio apparently call each other mommy and daddy and blow kisses at each other all the time. Christian Siriano surprises the designers with Geoffrey Mac, last Season’s winner and Cyndi Lauper in the design room! Everyone was so happy when Geoffrey Mac won last season. He is so loveable. He’s a crier like me always seems a little bit chocked up. I just want to hug him. I’m worried about everyone except Octavio at this point. The fashion choices are bad. Bones gets criticism from Cyndi and Geoffrey. It’s starting to look like EVERYONE is on the bottom. Chasity’s all white look is lovely, she should be in the top with Octavio. Also, she listens to Geoffrey’s advice. So many of these designers this season ignore the mentors!

Time Crunch!
Bones is completely abandoning his look with three hours to go and very little fabric to use. He’s in trouble but he made Darren’s look in the first team challenge with like and hour left in the show and Darren was top three, along with him, that week. So, good luck, Bones. The macramé girl is doing macramé again. Once more with feeling, macramé doesn’t have a place in couch wear. Prajjé helps Bones solve his fabric problems. It’s nice when they help each other out. I love Prajjé . He says ” At this point, I really don’t know what page everyone is one. Some people ae going to weddings, some people are going to the strip club, somebody is going to get more liquor at the store. Like, it’s a lot.” Amen to that Prajjé . This is definitely not the most talented designers as advertised.

I love all the scenes inside the their apartment. Prajjé shares that he has a daughter in Haiti. The blur her face because of the horrible situation in Haiti right now. They have had an earthquake, followed by a tropical depression, and tons of landslides. That resulted in a huge uptick in gang violence and looting and kidnapping. I hope Prajjé can get the kid and the mother out of there ASAP. Oh Zayden, my homeboy, you could be going home for this. But, almost everyone’s look sucks. Octavio goes from bad to worse. This is just bad. Very bad. I mean Octavio needs to go home for his fucking garter belts alone. Never mind the Jiffy Pop top!

It’s Runway Time!
It’s time like this when I miss CJ Bomb and The Lovely Les. I can’t stop wondering what they are saying about this season. Why have they forsaken us? 🙁 First up is Chasity who was lucky enough to draw DD as a model That girl could make a bunch of pot holders stitched together fly off the shelves. Chasity is one of the few that nailed this challenge and could win. She’s top three for me. Also, she picked the rights shoes! White sneakers! She’s really good. Next is Shantall. I liked her fabric that Christian did not like, but she used it wrong. And what kind of knobs are on the pants? How comfy would knobs be to sit on?

Coral’s look is a hot mess. I have no words. It’s all sequins and doesn’t look comfy at all. It’s bad. Like, it’s really bad. Aaron totally understood the assignment. I think he should win. As someone who still dresses for a flight, I would wear that on a plane but I’d need something other than a crop top. Octavio’s model comes out in his Jiffy Pop look and pulls her dress up to show her bra, panties and GARTER BELTS. THERE IS NOTHING COMFY ABOUT GARTER BELTS! And he sent her out in pink feathery pumps! Has he never been on a couch in his life?

Mostly Disappointing Runway
Prajjé’s naked lady fabric came out better than I expected. He had appropriate shoes. He might be in the top. Because, it doesn’t take much this week, apparently. Oh Zayden. I want to like this, baby boy, I really do, but it’s a no for me, dawg. WTF with that belt. Nobody wears a belt on the couch! I’m worried. The bomber jacket was great though! Bones sent his model down the runway with curlers in her hair. That said is look was closer to comfy chic than most. He should be safe. Oh wow, Anna’s final look is AMAZING as usual. She has a big shot at winning the whole thing. She TOTALLY understood the assignment.

Kristina’s look didn’t turn out as well as I thought it would. It’s a bit… much. She should be on the bottom end of safe. Chasity, Aaron and Anna are in my top three. The rest were varying degrees of awful.

The Judges Decisions
WHAT IN THE HELL DO THESE JUDGES HAVE AGAINST ANNA! EVEN WHEN SHE WINS SHE IS ONLY SAFE! It’s becoming a pattern. Anna, Shantall and Bones are safe. This is the second time Anna should have won and was only “safe.” What is their problem? Chasity is in the top. The guest judge who looks really familiar but I missed her name compliments DD. They all need to be praying every week they get DD as a model.
At least they hated Octavio’s Jiffy Pop dress as much as I did. Brandon hates the slinky arms. Octavio argues with the judges. Oh no, Prajjé is in the bottom. I understand why but I was hoping he would be safe. Nina didn’t see this look as comfortable? It looks comfortable to me, I just don’t care for the fabric. Elaine disagrees with the judges. She actually liked the look, so that should keep him safe. Aaron is also in the top. I think he will win. Or not, Elaine also disagrees with the others about this being in the top. She thought it was frumpy? Le Sigh. Then when she saw the bralette suddenly she thought it was cooler. It’s cashmere, you dolt!

Coral is on the bottom for her sequined strappy mess. Does this mean Zayden is on the top??? No! It was all a cruel joke. I guess it is four on the bottom and two on the top. That was a mean trick. Oh we have another top look with Kristina. HOW THE HELL IS KRISTINA’S LOOK BETTER THAN ANA’S? On what planet? Brandon didn’t like it either. I mean I liked it. Especially when she showed the judges all the ways to wear the dress. The judges are literally arguing over everything. I think homeboy is going home. 🙁

Tops And Bottoms
Top Three: Chasity, Aaron and Kristina
Bottom Four: Octavio, Prajjé, Coral and Zayden
Kristina wins? I mean I am okay with that but she would have been like fourth place for me. And Anna is robbed yet again. The final bottom two are Octavio and Zayden. I’m going to miss you homeboy! OMG! They cut Octavio AND Zayden. WOW. JUST WOW! Zayden is so upset he cannot speak. Elaine gets emotional. I’m emotional. This is a hard one. I love that kid. He was in a bit over his head at times but I am hopeful he will go far. This is a REALLY hard show to be on. And he did his best and got really far! All the designers are crying. This show makes me so emotional. I should have seen the double eviction coming after the Siriano save was used last week, but I didn’t.
Next week is Unconventional Materials! I love that challenge!
I kind of liked the jiffy pop top, but definitely not with a garter belt. It needed leggings with a really comfy waist. Maybe something 80’s looking. And duh – different shoes! Christian tried to tell him. Having been home in t-shirts and cotton pants all last year, I could relate to this challenge and would have wished they would dress me, except I didn’t care for most of the looks. Aaron’s was my favorite in terms of fitting the challenge.
The competition is going to be much harder from here on out! Only Bones has consistently been in the bottom, I think. Most of the rest tend to be in the top. Although Aaron is usually safe and I don’t think they’ve noticed him enough.
I might even take a shower if I could slip in to Aaron’s cashmere. Or, as I said strut it on an flight across the pond to somewhere good.
I liked the jiffy pop top — I imagine it in a cold place like Chicago with leggings and cute boots. I’d buy it if I could find it.
I haven’t agreed with many of the judge’s winners. I think Aaron won this one. Seeing the previews of the pepto bismal explosion from last week — that is a winning design? It was awful!! IMO Aaron won last week too.
How their minds didn’t all immediately go to cashmere is beyond me. The girl who sent the sequenced black and silver monstrosity down the runway was clearly the worst. Proof that production absolutely manipulates the F out of these shows. Unfortunately. She should have been sent packing.
Well they did get rid of two. I am excited about the nonconvential material challenge, because it is an iconic staple. But after that they need to let the designers design fabulous clothes and stop making everything so weird.
The two were not the two that should have gone. Bones is still in while Octavio was sent home? Mind you… this is the panel who let clown costume lady send many packing while they for whatever reason saved her many times.
Every designer eliminated while this “jury” saved clown lady deserves a do-over.
I feel you on that, Sarah…I agree that clown lady should have gone home a few challenges before she actually did.
Octavio’s lingerie was vulgar beyond belief – not the fact of it, that he actually had his model lift the sweatshirt to show his crotch. Just awful.
I expected this to be a challenge where EVERY look would be great, making it hard for the judges to send ONE home, let alone two. WRONG! Very disappointing.
Christian’s best advice was at Mood; the fabric would be of extreme importance.
Two words: Deluxe. Knits. There are a shit ton of GORGEOUS knits at Mood. That, and a good silhouette were all they needed.
Aaron got the message. CASHMERE KNITS. I watched the previews and sent my friend a message: “One designer is choosing brocade. So wrong.” (It didn’t even look like brocade, Tamara’s Jiffy Pop, or lame, but not brocade.)
Zayden should have used that gorgeous turquoise fabric. They should all be familiar with John Kloss, my favorite ‘70s designer. Knits. Understated luxe. Loungewear that could go from couch, or boudoir, to street. I still have three nightgowns, that I wore as dresses and three dresses I sewed from his patterns. They still look great and fresh today. Zayden’s turquoise would have rocked one of those type of looks.
Only good thing — no more fucking immunity. That made Christian have to waste the Siriano save. And Zayden paid for it. Also: Prajje’s was worse than Zaden’s, better than Octavio’s.
Okay, here is another embarrassing disclosure. There is a brand called Vicki Vi? Or something like that. It’s kind of an old people thing. But I wore it decades ago, it’s great for travel (except the part where it is probably a very flammable material.) I had navy pants, tank top, jacket and skirt. They were (and may still be around here somewhere,) I need someone to help me purge my closet if there is ever a time again I can get to a closet in this hoarder house. It was all very comfy and with a bit of gussying up with jewelry was great for travel. A pant, a top and some pants monochromatic in cashmere would have been great. Or a cashmere shirt with a jacket of some sort.
Many of these designers are disappointing this season. At least there are no banana appliques…
YOU DO NOT HAVE A HOARDER HOUSE. I actually thought you might from the picture you were painting, but was pleasantly surprised. My sister gave me a Beautiful lt aqua cashmere throw and now I am definitely going to use it if and when I ever fly somefuckingwhere again.
I did love Aaron’s look, but not everyone (As in 1%) can or should wear a crop top, but with a regular white shirt it looks amazing and comfortable. What the heck with that outfit Octavio? Sure, I’m going to comfy up in that and then hit the town. Noe.
Kristina’s was very glam, very hmmm Dorit? I like the matching headscarf and I did like the overall look. Really great recap, I loved the pictures!! Thanks Tamara-
I thought I was drunk when I saw Octavio’s look on the runway with the garter!
If I would sit on a couch all day, eat pizza and drink coffee, I would not want to wear light colours.
Watched the first Project Runway Aftershow where Christian talks with Zayden and Octavio (separetely), there is footage with Zayden just leaving not saying goodbye, looking very upset. It has not been easy for him in life, I get that.
Oh boy! Did some of them totally miss the mark. Personally, I think Chastity should have won. That look was GORGEOUS and DiDi rocked the hell out of it. The details on the top on the back made it spectacular. I liked Aaron’s too and though I thought Kristina’s was cool, it looked like resort wear. But she’s a master at mixing fabrics. Poor Jaden. Picked him as the loser while he was fitting the model. It just didn’t fit and was so unflattering. As for Octavio – he never listened to anyone, was always determined to do what he wanted. The jacket dress was ok – minus the long arms – but the garters? Puleeze. And if his elimination means we have lost Mimi as a model, imma gonna kill someone! Don’t know why Praje wasn’t safe and Bones was. Should have been reversed. And can I say I find Elaine’s comments rather tiresome? There. I said it. Right now it looks like the strongest designers are Anna, Kristina & Chastity. One of them will win.
I agree with all of your opinions, Sadiesue, but especially regarding Elaine’s comments. Please just judge the work.
I felt bad for Zander but I can’t say he was robbed. I want Bones to stop making his outfits for the runway show. I think Aaron should have won because his outfit fit the challenge the best
I really think Aaron should have won. The winning look wasn’t something I would walk around the house in…
I watched it again just to hear how all over the place the judges were. It seems they were as confused as the designers about the concept. Even Christian (on the after show) said he was confused. DUH! Something that FEELS good enough to wear to sleep in (not that it needs to LOOK like sleepwear), but LOOKS like real clothes, not bedclothes.
Whenever one of the judges says “I just don’t see EVERY woman wearing it” I cringe. Since WHEN has ANY designer made clothes for EVERY woman? Take a look at the runway shows. MOST target mid-20s – mid-30s. Very few clothes look good on EVERY age or body type, so that being a criteria for a losing look is ridiculous. FASHION is subjective, but the judges seem to disagree about the PARAMETERS of the challenges. It should be which of the looks that satisfied the challenge looks the best. Kristina’s did NOT. I loved it for resort, but it was not couch wear — too much fabric. Lord help you if you get up to mix a second cocktail and trip over the yardage. Or have some of the miles of fabric wind up in the toilet. Women do not pee standing up.
Aaron and Chasity’s were the only ones that looked chic AND comfy. Octavio’s looks even worse on second watching.
I think they’ve started judging it on what is gonna sell well to the general public on amazon, and that is not FASHION, DARLING. 😆
Great points, Nanette! 🤣
Not really. It’s much easier to do a crop top because you have a thin model, than to do what Kristina did, also with a thin model, and make an outfit that really could be worn at any size. And if you think that the show doesn’t want to turn out commercial designers, you’re entirely wrong.
As soon as I saw Zayden’s look on the model I was like…..NOOOOOOOOOOEEEEEEEEEE because I knew he was going home. Octavio’s was not so great too, but I figured the judges would still keep him because he seemed to be one of their favorites. Had I used my brain I would’ve realized it was most likely going to be a double elimination because of the Sirano Save last week. I wonder if we can find out if how Zayden is doing right now. I’m hoping the exposure on Project Runway will give him the ability to make some serious $$$$$.
I was not glad for Zander to go home but his look was so very ill fitting! Octavio overstayed IMO so was fine with him leaving. I guess I don’t see how so many screwed up this week- it wasn’t a confusing challenge from where I was sitting in my family room! I also think Aaron should have won. Looking forward to next week!
I meant Zayden!
Octavio’s look gave me a very bad pedo look as if wearing an adults sweatshirt and the garter was completely inappropriate. Who would go around flashing people? And in pink pumps… with an awareness of kids being trafficked it made my stomach hurt 😞
Z’s look was not flattering at alll. The best was Anna hands down. I haven’t figured out who the producers picked but it does seem that they have a winner before it starts.
I’m still angry with Aaron, but I would wear that for a nap and then to the grocery store. I wasn’t that shocked that two went home, but Jayden. I’m sad.
It was past time for Ottavio to go home, I thought he was a bit overhyped this season. I think he came in with a reputation already and that took him further, but I never liked his style.
The white outfit was gorgeous, I wish it had won.
thanks for the peel behind the curtain, Nancyinthesmokies!
The deal with being on Project Runway is to learn, having a mentor and see how other contestants work. Octavio did not want to listen to advices, and it gets a bit boring. He seems to be a lovely person and has his own style.
There is only one winner here in PR already, the others look a little pale compared to her!
Anna? I think many are worthy of the overall win. But she is a front runner for sure … at least for me.
Yes TT, Anna!
Otherwise Prajje, Kristina or Chasity. But Anna is extraordinary I think.
I just can’t with the idea of lounging around the house in polyester, especially in winter with the heat on! My skin is getting itchy and gay at the thought!
Cashmere, merino, cotton, cotton Jersey, silk cashmere, thats a luxury lounge moment. THAT BREATHES!!!
Also for some reason when I think of glamorous luxury lounge wear you could wear to the club i immediately think of Halston.
Absolutely!
” It’s cashmere, you dolt!”
It was the mohair that she thought was frumpy, and I agree with her.
