Survivor Recap 41: Do Or Die

December 1, 2021 by tamaratattles 13 Comments

Y’all, do you remember our intimate Wednesdays nights we had once or twice? I could relax and not sweat getting the Survivor 41 recap up 30 seconds after the show ends. Now, we have RHOC right after this. So I will be rushing to get that recap up. I promise you though, on Survivor finale night when they run that three hour thing, RHOC can wait until the next day if need be. NOTHING comes before a Survivor or Big Brother finale night. There could be a boxing match airing live with Kenya Moore and Ramona Singer airing live, and I’d be watching the Survivor finale. So let’s get through this crazy fast-paced season together. We finally (kind of) have all the names straight! 🙂

Survivor 41 RecapFrom The Bottom To The Top

YAY! It’s time! Liana is coming back to camp pissy because her name was written down so many times. I get that, but when you lay down with dogs you get up with fleas. Danny and Deshawn both blame it on Ricard that Shan went home and Liana was the backup plan. Would anyone believe that? Also, I don’t feel bad that Liana is out there on her own at the moment. Again, she allied with someone who really didn’t even have HER back. She needs to wake up.

Meanwhile, our boy Xander is riding pretty with a new alliance and a pocket full of at least an idol. Is it me or are the idols not coming right back into the game when people leave with them. Two that I know of have left with idols. Why is no one out there looking for them? Ah! Xander offers to Ricard, Erika, and I guess that is Heather that he will do whatever is necessary with his idol and extra vote. They want to be final four and send home Liana, Deshawn and Danny. I mean, do we have to throw Danny out with the bath water? I also like Deshawn but he is kind of wishy washy. Liana can go based on guilt by association with Shan. Heather can also go once this four gets rid of Liana. It would not shock me if Ricard somehow goes out tonight despite the “new alliance.”

Survivor 41 RecapThe Immunity Challenge

The next day, Danny is struggling because it is the 25th anniversary of his father’s death in a car accident. He was 8 and has been holding on to all the anger he has about that situation. But, he wants to finally let all that anger go. It will have to go somewhere… so this could be an issue for everyone.

Meanwhile, Jeff tells us a bit about the immunity challenge before the survivors arrive. It’s going to be a new twist where even playing for immunity could be deadly. They literally do make players sign away all their privacy and all of their rights to sue. So.. who knows what this will be?  Everyone arrives with all of their belongings. That’s never a good thing. At first, it looks like it’s just another challenge balancing a ball. But then, Jeff Probst, TV Host, announces a twist. The first person to drop their ball must participate in a new challenge called, “Survivor, Do Or Die.” It will happen at tribal, and if they lose the challenge at tribal they are out, and there will be no voting at all. They must now decide if they want to play in the immunity challenge. WOW.

Heather and Liana opt to sit out of the challenge entirely. That’s what I would have done. Everyone else is playing for immunity. I need Erika to win this. Deshawn drops just about 3 seconds in. He had to play do or die. 🙁  Everyone else makes the first five minutes balancing a metal ball on pieces of an unconnected cylinder. Next, more pieces are added to make it more difficult for another five minutes.  Damn! Erika was doing so well but drops with only three seconds left in the round. That leaves, Xander, Richard and Danny. In the third part, Danny uses an underhanded grip. The three guys will go until only one is left. Danny’s arms start to shake. Then, it starts to get windy. Richard drops and Xander drops just a split second after. Danny wins immunity! He drops to the ground. You know he was thinking about his dad.

Surivor 41 RecapLet The Backstabbing Begin!

Right after the win, Danny starts talking to Deshawn and Xanader, albeit separately about getting out Ricard. Danny is good with it, but Xander is not. But, Xander plays along. The problem is the new group of four are the only options if Deshawn stays. Oh, I forgot about Liana! The new alliance can vote Liana out. Erika seems to want to get rid of Ricard. Hopefully, this is all for nothing and Deshawn goes home. Being on top isn’t always easy. Erika will be the deciding vote between Ricard and Liana.

Tribal Council

It’s the last time that players can use their “shot in the dark.” We have been through so many new twists this season, I’d forgot about that one.  Then, Deshawn lets it all out about how shitty it was that Shan the “pastor” called him a snake on the way out of the game last tribal. He cries trying to explain about the minority alliance and their desire to play a respectable game together. Oh! Actually, he doesn’t even mention Shan calling him a snake. We move into the diversity of the black community. And how they play the game with their personal strategy and still support the diversity on the cast. No one mentions Erika at all during this conversation about POC.

That entire conversation puts Ricard in more peril. Isn’t he a POC? They didn’t hesitate to get rid of Jarius, of Naseer. They actively dislike Erika.  This is not like The Cookout on Big Brother. This is four black people who tried to play together and didn’t really like each other that much. It doesn’t really matter Deshawn is about to play Do Or Die. He has three boxes to choose from and only one can save him. Of course he is going home. It will be a dude of a twist if he stays. WAIT! HE IS SAFE! YAY! Time to vote out Liana or Richard. For some reason Heather’s name never comes up. Is she the goat everyone wants to drag to the end? LIANNA is voted out. Someone played an extra vote that was not necessary! I guess it was Xander in case Erika couldn’t go through with voting Lianna out?

What did y’all think of this episode? I think the guys may decide to get out Erika and Heather out next.

SO glad to see Liana go! She was just a little ball of bitterness. Heather sure is flying under the radar and Ricard has a huge target on his back. It will be very interesting to see next week’s episode, particularly if someone finds a new idol! As long as Xander stays safe, that is.

Coming off last week’s amazing episode, tonight’s was a bit of a mixed bag. I really loved Danny sharing his story about his father’s death and its effects over the years and the whole conversation about the black players’ experiences moved me to tears during tribal. I’ve seen on other boards some people were bothered that Ricard who is a Latinx gay man and Erika an Asian women were not really discussed or involved in the convo, which did stand out to me a bit, but ultimately I think the conversation centered around the black experience specifically and what their community has had to deal with. Perhaps Ricard and Erika can share their own experiences in the next two episodes or at the finale but we’ll see. As for the twist, it provided some suspense but I’m glad it didn’t work as it would be a bit anticlimactic. This season has had some ups and downs but I think these crazy twists are not a good thing and the best drama comes from relationships and organic game play.

I don’t think it is the conversations they had about the black experience that bothered people. It’s that they want to call their alliance for POC, and that includes Ricard, and Erika both of whom are their top two targets and and were not supportive of Jairus at all and he was never offered a seat at the table.

In other news, WHEN THE HELL ARE WOMEN EVER GOING TO STICK TOGETHER ON THESE SHOWS? Shan and Lianna both heavily targeted Erika. You know, Erika the youngest female who they immediately banished to an island alone. Again, this is not the black alliance that was formed on Big Brother where they all worked together FROM DAY ONE to get to the end together AND THEY DID. They made plans together. They voted together even thought they all had non-black friends they were close with. And by doing that they were ALL the last ones standing. It was amazing gameplay and the very first time a day one alliance stuck together the whole game and they all got to the end before voting each other off. They voted as a group. It was difficult to vote out people they had become very close with but they did it.

This was just four black people who never seemed to care that much about each other. And the bitter way Shan left showed why she needed to go.
That said, DeShawn’s statements at tribal were moving. As were Danny’s. There is something women that makes it impossible to work together.

I struggled at the beginning of the season, but now I am all in. I anxiously await new episodes. I too wondered why no one has been out looking for the 2 idols. Maybe they have and we don’t see it. I thought Danny’s honesty with his anger issues over his dads death was heartbreaking and beautiful. I hope his story reaches other children who have lost their parent. He comments during tribal were really good. He is a really good man.

I liked the twist of Do or Die. I had to rewind twice to figure it out, but it was exciting when Deshawn picked a box. I was really surprised by how happy everyone was for him to choose the correct box. Even though they had to vote, they were honestly excited in the moment of the box opening. That’s what I love about Survivor. You have to fight against these people to win, but they still cheer them on without realizing they are doing it.

I am glad Liana was voted out. I like Ricard’s game. I actually like all the game players right now and I’m happy to see any of them win, except not Heather. I can’t believe Shan’s stink eye when they showed her. She is NOT a good Pastor! She is still trying to control the game from the jury. She was voted out, she needs to get over herself.

I also was annoyed with Liana’s fake comments when she was leaving. She didn’t enjoy playing with Xander, Erica or Ricard. She talked awful about them. She was only trying to save face…get the pun, remember how she said she couldn’t look at Xander’s ugly face.

Shan is still irritating me from the jury 🤦🏽‍♀️. They will regret keeping Ricard. I’m hoping Erica or Danny win…

I think Heather might get dragged to the final two. But she will never win. The remaining players in the game all have compelling arguments if they make it to the end why they should win. They have all had to pivot in the game more than once, make new alliances, keep good relations with those not in their allinances except maybe for Ricard, and they just hate him because he really good. Xander should be even happier than Ricard that Ricard is still there.

I feel like the remaining guys will agree to pick off the females next and then duke it out at final four.

I was hoping the do or die required something more than luck. Xander was right. It was like a scene from Let’s Make a Deal.

I thought it was a stupid and unfair twist. You’ve made it this far on your skills and social skills and you could just go home by luck of the draw?

Oh the Stink Face on Shan on the jury pool. I was loving it! She is so bitter for a so called Pastor. Where’s your love for your fellow man and woman? All I say was bitterness and bad vibes.

I was glad DeShawn got the fire symbol. It would have sucked to leave the game due to chance rather than play skills. I think with the exception of Ricard, they all felt similar.

This is by far my favorite show, with Big Brother a close second. This is what I sign up for with reality t.v., not manufactured drama like the Real Housewives. I have completely weaned myself off all Housewives shows. I now only come here for the comments and feedback and feel I get a better feel for the housewives shenanigans than I would get watching their crap for myself. So thanks TT for taking the brunt of their crap for me while keeping me entertained. It’s a dirty job.
