UPDATE 2 10/25
An assistant director who is cited in a search warrant as having unknowingly given actor Alec Baldwin a loaded prop gun before a fatal shooting on the set of Rust was previously fired from another film following an accident involving a weapon, a producer confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
The producer on the film Freedom’s Path, who asked to remain anonymous, said that during production in 2019 “a crew member incurred a minor and temporary injury when a gun was unexpectedly discharged.” After the prop gun incident, Rust assistant director Dave Halls “was removed from set,” after which production continued.
UPDATED 10/25 We go a few more details today that explain why the shot was in the direction of the crew. They were rehearsing a scene. They needed to rehearse both shooting whoever he was supposed to shoot in the scene, and also give a shot to the camera of the gun shooting. So that is way the director of photography was fatally shot, that was her camera. She wears the camera on her body. In the photo I saw I wondered how that didn’t protect her. So Alec was supposed to “shoot the gun” at the camera.

I need a new thread on this. We have been talking it in the Brian Laundrie thread and that thread has some comments that just make my blood boil. Normally, we are able to have intelligent discourse on criminal matters based on the facts. Not some “This one time on the ID channel …” kind of crap. Sorry I am heated. It’s been going for hours.
Anyway , Let’s try to discuss the Alec Baldwin situation here without all of the “This one time at band camp…” type of bullshit. Thanks in advance.
The folks over at Jezebel have an interesting piece about the fact that Baldwin’s movie had recently had a situation where the unionized workers were unhappy with the working conditions. Allegedly, the unionized workers were promised hotel reimbursements and other things for the working off site. Then they were not actually given reimbursements. The source of the Jezebel article is the LA Times. So if you can’t read that one, the Jezebel site does a great job at recapping it.
The LA Times Has New Information
Hours before actor Alec Baldwin fatally shot a cinematographer on the New Mexico set of “Rust” with a prop gun, a half-dozen camera crew workers walked off the set to protest working conditions.
The camera operators and their assistants were frustrated by the conditions surrounding the low-budget film, including complaints of long hours, long commutes and collecting their paychecks, according to three people familiar with the matter who were not authorized to comment.
Three crew members who were present at the Bonanza Creek Ranch set that day said they were particularly concerned about two accidental prop gun discharges on Saturday.
“There should have been an investigation into what happened,” said the crew member. “There were no safety meetings. There was no assurance that it wouldn’t happen again. All they wanted to do was rush, rush, rush.”
A colleague was so alarmed by the prop gun misfires he sent a text message to the unit production manager. “We’ve now had 3 accidental discharges. This is super unsafe,” according to a copy of the message reviewed by the Times. There was also no unionized prop master with experience on the set.
“The safety of our cast and crew is the top priority of Rust Productions and everyone associated with the company, ” Rust Movie Productions LLC said in a statement. “Though we were not made aware of any official complaints concerning weapon or prop safety on set, we will be conducting an internal review of our procedures while production is shut down. We will continue to cooperate with the Santa Fe authorities in their investigation and offer mental health services to the cast and crew during this tragic time.”
This is just a horrible situation. It turns out the person who died was fighting for the union to stay. 🙁
