Doing Project Runway recaps makes me excited and as close to happy as I can get right now. But, for the past few seasons, reading the comments just astound me. I get that we might not all agree on the fashions. But, we can’t even identify the villians and the underdogs. Newsflash, Bones is the villain! Did he save his team on last week’s episode? Yes. But, once we get to individuals tonight… well, let’s wait and see. His blocking of Christian from his teammates so they could not get any of his advice is all you need to know. But fans of him should not be concerned. The resident asshole generally goes far into the challenge for drama/production’s sake.

The Gang Heads Off To Mood
The contestants haven’t even left the runway filming yet, but Christian Siriano pulls then all back on set to tell them their next assignment. They will need to make three piece streetwear look. Hmmm will the head diaper count as a piece? They get some mediocre advice from a social media influencer. Basically he tells them what streetwear is. They will be receiving model cards at the house including male, female and nonbinary. It’s a two day individual challenge. There was a free for all grabbing model cards and Prajjé got the last card. He’s not thrilled. He’s upset that his male model is white. He wants to do a Haitian look and doesn’t see it on a white guy. He’s not wrong.

Meg who I loved on the episode, it basically making things worse for Prajjé. I hate when someone from one race tells someone from another race they are “insulted on their behalf.” Shut it Meg. Let him do what he needs to do. You do you. At Mood, Meg doesn’t listen to Christian when she talks to him about doing look with muted colors. She did muted colors the week before. Things aren’t looking good for my girl. She wants to do muted colors because her model is Asian? Who are these fools and why are the back talking Christian Fucking Siriano? How would Tim Gunn respond to this insolence?

For The Love Of God, Listen To Christian
Thank you Anna Zhou, for being the first person to accept and thank Christian for his advice. I’m not sure her look is really streetwear, but I am interested to she where she goes with it. There are a few people who are either Japanese, or have lived in Japan. Darren has a very interesting idea, his male model in a street dress. Or maybe the model is nonbinary? Either way, it’s edgy. Katie’s look is like an explosion of color that seems costumey to Christian. Did she listen? What do you think? I’m rooting for Prajjé. Christian gets Prajjé and another female to swap so he can have a black model. Her name is not on my contestant list.

I am tired of seeing Meg’s dingy bra. She’s also having a breakdown. Christian tried to help her with fabric choices, but she went with all “old man neutrals.” I personally LOVE old man neutrals, but I also never leave my house and am not trying to win a #STREETWEAR competition. We did not see Christian speak with Bones at all. Kenneth wants to switch models with Meg because he wanted an Asian model. The thing is the garments are all almost finished using the measurements they were given. But Meg agrees to do it anyway.

Meg Is Awful!
However, she is a huge bitch about it. Meg’s new model actually says to her, “Don’t yell at me like that.” She tries to get Prajjé on her side, but he’s not having it. Meg starts screaming “Fuck you!” over and over at Kenneth who has done nothing to her. I hope she goes home tonight. Meg can’t stop herself from making it worse. She’s confronting Prajjé again. Then she wants to rip her microphone off and storm out. She’s an angry loose cannon. Kenneth starts crying. Everyone LOVES Kenneth’s and a few stop their own projects to go outside and be with him. Such DRAMA! The next morning, Christian arrives to tell everyone that “Meg will no longer be in the competition.”

Kenneth has totally changed his look. He is now incorporating the scraps left over from the other designers into his pieces. Touching. But perhaps not smart. It looks like a badly designed patchwork quilt. We shall see. At the end of the second workday, there are so many designs we have not seen. Many designers are nowhere near done with their designs. Aaron seems like he is losing faith in his design. Prajjé’s look is coming along nicely. Kenneth is still struggling. But it’s SHOW TIME!

The Runway
The social media influencer, Wisdom Kaye is this week’s guest judge. Darren’s look it up first. It’s some pretty good streetwear. He did the male model in a skirt, a black fishnet t-shirt and a edgy leather jacket with graffiti. We’ll have to see if pretty good is enough. Katie’s look on a female model doesn’t impress me. too many accessories, too many colors, and no cohesion. She’s in trouble. Prajjé’s model is AH-MAZING. His look is AH-MAZING. The painted jacket, all of it is fantastic. I imagine he will win. I don’t need to see anything else. Chasity’s look is also amazing. But, it’s not really streetwear, It’s very elegant and something you could wear to the opera. Aaron’s look seem to be well made. It’s fine. He should be safe. I like Sabrina’s look, but to me it isn’t really streetwear. It’s really pretty though. Kenneth’s last minute look is not the best. Hopefully he will be safe.

I like Kristina’s look. Her model is not necessarily walking the sames streets as most of the others. But I get it. Shantall (who? I know) apparently she’s been sewing her ass off. Her look is really cool. WOW! We haven’t seen any of Octavio’s look before the runway. It’s kind of like Medieval Times meets Manhattan. His model Andy, OWNED THE RUNWAY. Anna’s model, Mimi also rocked the runway. First reveal of the season. lol. I don’t know where Coral Castillo was hiding last week, but I just added her to tags. These looks are are SO MUCH BETTER than last season. Bone’s look was middle of the pack. Atlanta homeboy, Zayden’s look is great and very Atlanta streetwear. He closed the show which is a good sign. YAY!

It’s All Up To The Judges
I have to say that there are a lot of options for top three. And not that many options for bottom three. This was a good runway overall. Zayden cries when he is in the to three. I may have some allergies myself. Aaron is also in the top. I like his look, but I think there were better ones. But he’s totally deserving. Oh wow! Aaron’s bomber jacket is reversible and his pants can also be worn two ways. Nice work Aaron! He could totally win. Darren is in the bottom. 🙁 The judges’ loved Prajjé look. I feel like he will win, but any of the top three are deserving winners.
On the other end of the spectrum, Katie’s look is ridiculous. The judges called it childish and kitschy. However, with Meg’s nervous breakdown, I doubt anyone is going home tonight. She got lucky. Kenneth tries to explain why he changed his look. He says he has never felt humiliated before. And he and Prajjé are both crying. The judges seem confused. Surely they were told why Meg was missing. Then I realize that Kristina is still out there too! Oh no! Liked her look! Oh YAY she is also in the top! The guest judge wants her models top for himself. This was a really good runway for the most part.
The top three FOUR! are: Zayden, Aaron, Prajjé and Kristina. The bottom three are: Darren, Katie, and dear sweet Kenneth. The judges have their work cut out for them on who to pick as a sinner. All four literally deserve to win. I’m torn. I lean toward Prajjé. But they seem to be leaning toward Aaron. But they all agree this is one of the hardest decisions of all the seasons. There is no wrong choice here. They really hate Darren and Kenneth’s looks. For me Katie is the worst.
Prajjé wins! No one is eliminated! YAY! This was a good episode!
This was a really good episode. Meg was so caught up in being “down for the cause” that it came across as inauthentic. It was best that she went ahead and left. I’m sorry but Kenneth’s look was awful. I wish he would have stayed with his initial design. I can’t wait to see the fashions next week!
Agreed. I knew when she said she was offended FOR Prajjie she was sealing her own fate. That is not something anyone should ever say to ANYONE. I think that phrase is probably in my commenting rules I wrote over a decade ago. I find that such a …condescending statement. That may just me though.
I do hope they do something more than the whole 52 card pickup game for choosing models. They need to draw cards for who chooses first and let the designers have a minute to decide. That said Carol did get a VERY good model in her trade with Christian. And she was only in the middle. The model can’t be everything. Though there was a black female model a few seasons ago who was so damn good she could have sold a potato sack.
Maybe the winner should get their choice of model and the rest be a blind draw. This is a design competition, and Project Runway, not Project Coddle. Deal with the challenge of dressing a random model
Agree Nanette. Christian started the entire episode with Meg and Kenneth by getting involved with getting a black model for Prajji because he was whining about having a white model. That gave Kenneth the idea that since he is Asian, he should get to trade for an Asian model and we were off. What happened to dealing with the model you get? Every designer needs to design for everyone-except someone of a different race? How hurtful to the two models who weren’t wanted!
Agree. I felt bad for the model that was switched to Meg and I could see it on his face when he was trying on the pants and Meg came over to switch models — before she had a melt down and, of course, after.
Then because of the switch and drama he didn’t even get to walk the runway. That’s not nice, IMO. No one mentioned that to Kenneth. His motivation is understandable but not very thoughtful.
Also, it put Meg in a position and I think she felt pressured and resented it. They already started fittings … horrible timing.
And the judges didn’t notice Meg was gone? I guess on week 2 they didn’t remember everybody.
Agree completely. Roles reversed and all hell would break loose
It was a STREETWEAR challenge. That is a challenge about the streets you grew up on. They were not changing models because they didn’t want white models. They were changing because they wanted models that look like the people on THEIR STREETS. Also all of this was filming during all the BLM protests and other things that people wanted to acknowledge about their STREETS.
I *heart* you, TT.
Then the production should have supplied models to make that happen, not manipulated other designers to give up the model they had been fitting looks on. It’s a legitimate concern, but it should have been addressed by Project Runway. The production could have inquired ahead of time – “what is your preference for a streetwear challenge” and models could have been assigned accordingly.
That is not how the challenge worked. They did choose their models but it was a free for all causing some designers to get models that they felt didn’t work for this particular challenge. That’s why Project Runway is hard. If they can convince someone to switch models with them then, good for them.
YES Annette! I agree! I loved the drama of picking models – or even the random draw of the button bag. And then that’s it!
THANK YOU! I can’t watch this bullshit, I didn’t even finish the episode.another show ruined.
Sweetie, she’s gone. You can get back into the water now.
Both Kenneth’s original look and runway look were awful. If this is what he has to offer he isn’t going to be around long. I don’t remember his look last week.
I think Meg was misunderstood. She was right. He should have spoke up earlier, she wasn’t upset about the cultural aspect, it was to put all that work in on fitting to that model and now you want to change? And as a poc, we have fought to be included etc, but now you want to be narrow and say this has to be only for my own culture? I appreciate wanting to show your heritage, but if dealt a different hand, put on your adult pants and make it work.
I agree with everything you said.
When a designer has their OWN show, they can pick and choose their models. Perhaps model assignment should be a blind draw, no swapping. It was a huge imposition FOR ANY REASON to expect ANYONE of ANY color to swap so late in the process.
A designer has little/no control over who buys their designs. People will buy your look or not.
I vote Zayden for Fan Favorite for both weeks. I liked both of his looks too.
I’m really liking Zayden so fan favorite is a possibility.
I’m probably on my own here, but I do not like Kenneth. I thought he was an asshole for asking for a model swap. The Haitian guy had a legitimate reason for swapping but I don’t think Kenneth did, and he was a whiny bitch about it.
I like Aaron’s aesthetic and think he’s going to be in the top without winning for a while. I thought he got robbed when Bones won last week.
You are not on your own. There at least two of us who feel that way about Kenneth. Meg was villainized. I did NOT AGREE when she was screaming FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU at Kenneth. But enough with the diva behavior from Kenneth.
Make that three! I agree! I felt it was unfair for Christian to get involved with the switching of the models. Meg was put in a bad spot.
Meg was doomed no matter what she did.
Meg should have learned how to keep her mouth shut and not try to be the woke person at the table trying to explain shit to black people. Sometimes, she needs to shut the fuck up, listen, and be supportive. She had already told Kenneth no, she just didn’t have the nerve to say it to Christian (that was kind of unfair). Then, instead of busting ass on her new fittings, she decided to cuss out everyone including Prajje. She was crying about the loss of her mother on the first episode. She was not mentally healthy enough to compete. These shows are HARD. We see all the lovey dovey stuff mostly but there is a lot going on there. Former contestants have shared stories.
She should have sucked it up and completed the garment. Now that poor model, who seemed terrified by her, didn’t get to walk and may be off the show entirely from no fault of his own.
As someone with mental health issues myself, I understand the tendancy to go off from time to time. But this is on her.
The model that didn’t get to walk could’ve walked if Kenneth was a Real designer and worked with the cards he was dealt….do people only buy clothes based on their race or culture? I think not! People buy clothes that they like!
Also Christian should not have interfered and changed the rules!
Kenneth got validation from fellow designers. The behavior was rewarded
I have really liked Zayden both weeks. He seems as appalled at all the drama as I am, and I loved his design this week.
I don’t think I can keep watching this season though…it is more like a season of Real Housewives than Project Runway. Screaming, crying, swearing, hugging are getting way more screen time than clothing design. Where are the ad hoc consultations, the agony of fittings, the racing around the workroom muttering about the time? Since when does Nina Garcia let people make excuses over what happened in the workroom? The whole judging/tears/sympathy on the runway just seemed so REHEARSED.
Tim Gunn is sitting on his sofa thanking his lucky stars that he doesn’t have to deal with this group – most clearly cast for drama rather than talent. But I doubt he’ll tune in next week and sadly neither will I.
I will miss you, Project Runway!
I’m sorry to inform you Renny, that you are not allowed to leave us. You must continue to watch the show with us. It’s only been two episodes! Give it more time!
I just cannot bear shows where people shriek at each other. I had to stop watching The Amazing Race when they started casting too many people who needed anger management classes. I will keep an eye on the column though – lemme know if gets better?? Our code words will be “drama free episode”.
Cast aside, what do you think of the new format? It seems very choppy to me, and the judging portion in particular just feels odd, with models being brought out one at a time. I am trying to figure out why they think this is better. I miss Karlie/Heidi – I think the show just worked better with a host.
But go Zayden! When he looked at the camera the other night and said “I thought this was Project Runway”, I was like “Me too, Zayden. Me too.” And his look was fantastic – my favorite of the night.
I stopped watching most of the RH shows because of screaming and yelling OVER PETTY BULLSHIT. I had enough of that from the mom of my youth. BUT, I read the recaps and every now and then I decide it is “safe” to watch an episode.
Even if “drama-free episode” isn’t spelled out, more than likely you can come here and then decide whether or not to watch.
I agree with you, and she was bad mouthed unfairly after she left. I think it said they were 16 hours in . The 2 models had different body types and were not interchangeable. Much of Megs cutting was a!ready done and her new model was bigger so its not like she could trim the fabric or shorten it and it would be ok.
Meg could have said no to the switch, it was late ,”I’m sorry to disappoint you Kenneth but it’s so late and I’ve already fitted my model”..Easy, kind response….instead Meg agreed to change models then became angry, resentful and took it out on Kenneth.
The designers design for all people but for this challenge I’m glad Cristian saw the importance of Pagge’s streetwear being on a black model .
Meg was inappropriate and insulting..I’m glad Kenneth was supported. Chastity said it best ” Meg could have said no”..
I agree. Meg should have just said no, stated why and be done with it but instead became nasty. The show began with her bitching about being up for 24hrs and wanting to go home, then at Mood almost started crying when Christian critiqued her “old man colors”. The show was too much for her and IMHO she would have been sent home sooner than later anyhow. Her garment from last week was hella ugly.
I’m glad she’s gone so I dont have to look at the dingy bra/shirt combo again.
I really — based on her DESIGNS — do not understand how she made it on the show to begin with.
There are VERY TALENTED designers of every color, ethnicity and size that would have loved that opportunity.
Alissa – I do agree with what you are saying BUT she should have just said NO! That was her prerogative! To say yes and then just light up on him like that when I said – nope!
Nanette – completely agree with winner should get their model choice and then blind draw!
TT – thinking about you and Banjo!
Thank you for the recap!
I thought Meg was going to leave first, her dress was so meh.. She made drama already crying in bed with several photos of her mother on the pillow while the two other girls meditated right beside her last episode. That was such an awkward moment.
I saw Zayden’s work on Instagram, gee he has talent! Very good work.
We have a ton of great designers here in the ATL. I always root for the home team. But I didn’t mind him losing to Prajje this week. I fully believe his time will come. And Prajje had a hard week and his look was AH MAZING.
Yes fantastic job of Prajje!
I should say also THANK YOU for having this forum to discuss various tv shows, it is so great to share thoughts here and that you take time to write the recaps.
Also, so sorry about your dog🖤.
WHAT HAPPENED TO BANJO?!?!?!?! I haven’t been on in a few days! Please, someone update me!
He is reaching the end of his life and is health is declining, then rebounding, then then declining. I’m just trying to pretend nothing is happenings. He’s good today because he is on more prednisone, and last night someone offered to send more. Living on borrowed time over here and the kindnesses of you guys. #Numb
went though this with the love kitten a month ago. he was one of the great ones. went through a box of kleenex at the vets’. still picking up and putting stuff away. still numb. donated his foodstuffs, meds, litter.
Thank you, my heart stopped for a moment, I won’t lie. I had just got my fur baby when I found your site in ’07-08. So I’m right there with you, watching my baby boy get to the end. Thank you for letting me know, I feel like Banjo is my fur nephew. Hugs to you both.
Today was a good day all things considered. Back to eating and drinking and making it outside for whatever it is he does out there. 🙂
Now I know why the judges were saying that the designers were all incredible this season. I loved every look (ok maybe not Katie .. I kept thinking “Punky Brewster”). Oh Meg … she was so wrong. If she didn’t want to switch, she should’ve said “no”. It would’ve been understandable at that point in the process but to say yes and the “F U” was totally wrong. I was embarrassed with her comment to Prajje. I’m glad that she decided to leave for own mental health. She was definitely struggling and wasn’t able to read the room or listen to Christian. The whole thing with Bones last week should’ve given everyone a wake up call. I’m excited for this season and loved the recap. I’ll enjoy more once I can remember who is who. Hope you and Banjo are doing ok.
It’s really hard to keep everyone straight this early in the season. It helps to have all the diversity and the guy with the weird red mustache (Octavio). Throw in a couple Russians and some people either from or have lived in Japan, it’s slightly easier.
liked kristina best last week and this week. has structural skills, taste, and imagination.
I am really excited about seeing where Kristina’s journey will lead. Her streetwear top would have looked great on both Wisdom and Nina. A masterpiece of architectural piecing.
On the other hand, when Nina said she wanted to wear Zayden’s, I thought, “No, just no.” An amazing coat but not on everyone.
I really liked how they gave us a quick snapshot of the safe designs. Especially at the beginning when we are trying to get to know them and there are so many.
We DO have some amazing designers this season. I did not like Meg’s fashion, especially the top she wore last night. Bones: diaper on head. Meg: tattletale gray diaper on torso. Once Darren, Kenneth and Katie go, it’s going to get really tough. Some are quieter than others, but lots of talent here.
thanks for the recap! I loved Kristina this week – and I thought the judges were going to drag her. I feel like I like in opposite world the last few seasons! 🙂 But then, they loved her! I loved the looks, but a lot of it felt very expected. Great, beautiful pieces yes! But, Kristina was so different and it flowed so beautifully!
Prajji‘s painted jacket was amazing – and I think Aaron could end up taking the whole thing. I can really see Aaron with a successful brand.
The judges confound me every season. They ding a look because “it’s not marketable.” That is valid if you are designing for a Century 21. But TRUE PURE fashion is ART. But it should be wearable.
So, FINE that they chose Prajje’s look. Because it was fashion as ART. And very wearable. So was Zayden’s, which also had unique silhouettes.
Going forward, I really hope they continue on the path of FASHION as ART, not as much on the marketing aspect. Unless a specific challenge has that as a requirement.
This week … ALMOST every look was really good. Some maybe not as “streetwear-ISH” but really good.
If Sheree is watching, she might do well to do a collaboration with one of these designers.
Lol… Sheree!!
The judges do need to pick a lane. When Nina would say “this would photograph beautifully for an editorial,” that makes sense for a fashion show. If they want to lean towards marketable it’ll get boring fast.
There have been some jackets I’d love to have. Sewing leather or pleather is something I haven’t tried.
Based on my past experience with pleather/vinyl — friends sewed it, never me — I would not waste my time on fake leather unless it’s on something short term. Like a Halloween costume. HOWEVER, the new vegan leathers POSSIBLY are better.
One thing about fake leather, even the new fabrics, is that it doesn’t age/wear well. Real leather CAN get more beautiful with age. Fake does not. Take look at handbags. Many use leather for the body and fake for the handles/straps and trim. (CHEAP OUT!) The fake looks OK when new, then looks like shit while the leather part looks fine. Shoemakers can replace the crappy parts with leather if you love the bag.
I am disgusted at how Meg was and continues to be thrown under the bus. She was trying her best to be an alli for people of color. Was it too much? Who knows. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. In the workroom she was put in an impossible position. If she said no to changing her model, she would have been called our and she knew it. Buy saying yes she knew she would be behind and at a disadvantage. There was no win for her! And she was frustrated about it, as she should have been! And then everyone turned on HER! Why has everything become about race? White people have no idea what to do or say because we are called out for every single thing we do or say. I see you Meg! I’m sorry.
Meg would have been villainized if she didn’t switch models and then was beyond frustrated to have to redo everything so late in the game when she did switch. HJodier point that it should have happened 16 hours ago was valid. And Christian negotiating the other trade spurred on the whole thing. I also hated how everyone continued to badmouth her after her departure.
Another poster stated that since when do you not have to work with the model that you got?
Bring back the non-negotiable button bag!! And quit doing some kind of diving grab!
I was so worried when Tim and Heidi left, but I LOVE Christian (Fierce!) as a mentor! This may be unpopular but I miss Karli Kloss. I just love this show and was thrilled with the EMO flashback to Christian’s hair on his season! I remember loving his snotty little snarky ass and his buddy Chris March. Still miss drunk Michael Korrs. . .
Me too. Although MK was funny, I think Brandon Maxwell is funny (even a BIT snarky when warranted) but much more constructive with his critiques. Instead of trying to nail his next bon mot, he tries to evaluate the fashion.
MOST people I know watch PR for the fashion, not the drama.
While Meg could have handled the situation differently, she did not deserve all the snark after she left. I agree with those who think they should go back to the button bag. They came off as a bunch of whiny primadonna’s. Praje’s jacket was true art but I love Aaron’s work. Very talented group – should be a great season.
I am beginning to think that Aaron will be the next Dmitri. The dark horse who stays in the pack until the last third when he streaks ahead. His DESIGNS are top-notch, but may not get the accolades.
However, if the streetwear challenge was any indication, there are so many talented people that a different one may win every week. No clear winner.
I really liked Zayden’s, but I was glad Prajje’s won because that painted jacket was amazing!! The way the 1804 was done on the pants was very cool too. I’m not sure which designer, but the reveal with the skirt falling and being a leggings look and then pulling down the face covering was pretty cool. I don’t know how street it was, but it made for a great show, and of course made Brandon happy. One that didn’t get talked about much that I liked was Shantall’s with the polka-dot jacket. I didn’t notice it on the first viewing, but I’m watching again right now. It was a great second challenge to get a good feel for the designers.
I went down a rabbit hole and figured out where the PR house is located. It’s in the Hunt’s Point neighborhood of Queens, a block from the entryway to the Midtown Tunnel. It’s a neighborhood that’s 70% working class, 30% gentrified, and this particular building was bought in 2019 and refitted into high-priced condos and rentals, so I imagine the building got some publicity and cachet and the production company got a cheap rate. It is SMALL. Like, tiny, and they initially had all 16 contestants squeezed into 2 2-bedroom apartments. No wonder they were stressed and acting out by the second episode.
It’s sorta funny, because they have a video on the Bravo website about this space and the set designer takes you through the apartments showing the art she places EVERYWHERE, ignoring the beds crammed into each bedroom. If I had to live there I would flip out from claustrophobia. I know eventually the number of people living there will be whittled down to an acceptable number, but I couldn’t help wondering about where the rejected designers are living. In another apartment in that building crammed full of beds?
I have mixed feelings about PR so far. I didn’t like the Meg situation and how it was filmed. Yes, she was loud, stupid and naive, but I think some quiet conversations would have gone a lot further than Prajje’s name calling and Kenneth’s crying. I couldn’t help thinking about how Tim Gunn would have handled it all. I doubt if he would have interfered with the model assignments and pushed a switch, which precipitated the whole mess. And, I think he would have stepped in on the runway and explained it all to the judges.
I watched this epi on demand last night so I’m a bit late to the party. But I actually woke up thinking about it because I was so upset watching it. I’ve read the gamut of comments here and there are lots of thoughtful takes. As I watched the drama unfold, starting with Meg’s attempts to ally herself with Prajje, I grew physically comfortable (despite lounging in my TV-watching recliner with a blankie). I finally had some clarity about it at 5:30 this morning–for me, it was the shooting, editing, and production that served as the gasoline on this dumpster fire. The lingering on the conversation outside, the emphasis on Meg’s tone-deafness and inability to just close her mouth, and the shot of the designers inside closing the door on her chatter and rolling their eyes. And for all the show’s talk about body positivity, did anyone else notice the camera panning, repeatedly, on Meg’s body at the most unflattering angles? It’s like the camera is inviting us to see her as an object of disgust–before she even behaves badly. And boy, did she behave badly, but I agree with previous posters that her emotional health at the time of shooting was clearly fragile. In some ways, it’s like she’s having conversations with only herself and not others. Case in point, her talking over Christian and responses that made no sense. Her defensiveness, lack of filter, and inability to read a room (her blurting about how can can only design for white people–like, she said that aloud!). And then of course, losing it completely in a shower of obscenity aimed at someone who didn’t deserve it.
But even from the beginning, her heightened energy and volubility signaled that she was struggling. She was open about her insecurities. Add to that the racial tensions and all the other tensions affecting everyone in the room: difficult childhoods, imposter syndrome, feeling marginalized for a variety of reasons, and overlay that with a heaping helping of competitiveness rooted in a lifelong dream. And no surprise, Bravo’s production manages to wring every bit of melodrama from the situation while revealing contestants’ worse qualities–not to mention their pain–on national television. I mean, they’re not just exploiting people–they’re harming them. I’m truly struggling with whether to stay with this season because I feel complicit.
I agree with the your overall take on the situation completely. Except when it comes to production. The cameras shoot what they are given. The only thing about her body was the fact she chose not to wear an actual shirt which left us staring at her dingy bra. How were they supposed to shoot around that. Also, she did seem to be in emotional pain. That is what the crew is supposed to capture. That’s not on the crew. They record what is happening in the workroom.
Sometimes, that reveals their worst qualities. Other people exhibited their best qualities while protecting Kenneth. Kenneth on the other hand let us know that he might not have the stamina for this pressure cooker situation.
