I was a huge Robin Williams fan and have seen literally everything he was ever in. I grew up on Mork and Mindy and thought it was the coolest show I’d ever seen. So when I ran across the “screen test” for Robin, I was blown away and so were millions of Robin Williams fan. We don’t know much about the video other than hopefully this is a for a bio pic and we all want Jamie Costa to get the part of Robin. I imagine that was the point of him putting in on Youtube and if it is, public support is very strongly behind him.
The clip, that is funny and heartbreaking all at the same time was directed and edited by Jake Lewis. The scene is of Robin Williams on the set of Mork and Mindy in 1982 when his costar Pam Dawber, played in the clip by Sarah Murphree, who is also brilliant, breaks the news of John Belushi’s death to Williams.
Belushi died in March of 1982 of a drug overdose at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles at age 33. Williams was with the comedian hours before his death. Mork and Mindy was filming at the time. Sorry this is a bit of a downer, but the acting is so great I just had to share.
Thoughts?
I know a piece of my heart died the day he left us and it will never return. I can , still, to this day, barely look at his picture without filling up and feeling a sadness for him that will never go away. He was amazing and sad and funny and awesome . He gave all he had until he could give no more…..I pray that he knows how much he is missed and was loved.
Me too, sundayhare3 – I grew up watching Mork and Mindy and never missed a single episode, and like Tamara, I’ve seen every single movie he was ever in – a lot of them way more than once too, and every single recorded comedy gig he ever had, like on HBO. When I found out he died, I was simply a wreck, but when I later found out of the course of the year that he died of Lewy bodies dementia, as had my own Mom, it was like I just found out he had died all over again. The lights went out for comedy, in my view, when Robin Williams passed. I pray he has found true peace on the other side of this earth. I oftentimes wonder if he knew how great his impact was on this world – I hope that he did to some degree at least. God bless him and the family who was left behind.
What an amazing mind he had. I truly felt the day he died that we all on this planet lost such a bright light that brought such joy and laughter to so many.
OMG he’s VERY good!!
I miss Robin 🙁
Just give him the Oscar now. Brilliant!
Exactly.
I have wondered if they would ever do a movie about his life and if anyone was actually up to the task of talent. So glad someone is and if this is part of a movie I can’t wait to watch it. Robin Williams got me through many dark days and still does.
Unfortunately, this YouTube is taking a toll on his daughter. She is overwhelmed by all the people spamming her with the video. Plus she still can’t go anywhere without fans offering condolences, even today. I can see how that would take a toll and keep you from moving on with your life. : (
Zelda Williams is asking fans to stop sending her a now-viral impersonation of her late dad, Robin Williams.
After actor Jamie Costa’s impression of Robin took the internet by storm Wednesday, Zelda, 32, posted a tweet in response to people “spamming” her with the five-minute video, which shows Costa in character as Robin the day he learned of John Belushi’s death.
“Guys, I’m only saying this because I don’t think it’ll stop until I acknowledge it… please, stop sending me the ‘test footage,’ ” Zelda wrote. “I’ve seen it. Jamie is SUPER talented, this isn’t against him, but y’all spamming me an impression of my late Dad on one of his saddest days is weird.”
Because Williams was from the Bay Area, and settled and died there, I’ve heard countless tales about friends running into him. ALL POSITIVE. Some heartbreaking in the kindness he showed toward children, especially special needs kids.
