Well, it feels like midnight, because it is already pitch black outside. But it’s only 7:30 p.m. So I guess I can knock out a MAFS Houston Recap for both of you who read them. LOL. Let’s see what goes down this week.
Bao & Johnny
I’m surprised that we are starting with these two since they are the ones teased in all the ads for this episode and Bao has the titular phrase, “Is there somebody else.” But, we are picking back up the morning after the dinner party where Johnny feels like Bao was lying to all of their friends about what she does in her marriage. Oh I was right, we didn’t see much of anything at all. So it probably will happen at the very end. And we are back with these too cooking dinner. They still have not talked about the dinner with the other couples yet. Somehow instead, they are talking about Bao’s sex toy drawer. They both toast to saying yes on decision day. Bao means it. Johnny does not.
Over dinner, Johnny says that he is putting in all of the effort in this relationship. Bao disagrees. She doesn’t feel appreciated. Johnny wants Bao to initiate activities with them. Johnny gets angry and leaves the dinner table to be off camera. We can still him him screaming and cussing. He comes back out. He says that he just doesn’t think they are compatible. Then, he leaves the apartment. And he spends the night at his place. The rumor I heard that I didn’t share with you last week was that Johnny NEVER spent the night in the apartment. That may have just been an exaggeration.
Johnny Uninvites Bao From A Family Cookout
Poor Bao after Johnny went off on her and left her alone in the apartment, she now has to go meet his entire extended family for a big family cookout. That must have been difficult. Oh wait, after she has learned all the name of all the people, Johnny uninvites her from the crawfish boil. What an asshole. Bao doesn’t deserve this treatment. Even Johnny’s friends and family seem to be speaking more kindly about Bao than he is. Meanwhile, Bao is using the unexpected free time to make their meals for the week. Johnny’s aunt tells him that he needs to be in the relationship with no expectations. He’s not listening to anyone.
Johnny and Bao meet with Pastor Cal over video chat. The first thing he does is ask Johnny why he is so sad. Johnny says he is said because he feels like he is married to someone who is not right for him. Seriously? Bao really does seem to be making an effort. He says that he didn’t take Bao to the crawfish boil because he didn’t want his family getting attached to her or vice versa if he doesn’t even like her. WOW. Pastor Cal asks why he doesn’t like her. He says because Bao is not genuine. Pastor Cal says it seems like Johnny is looking for reasons to blame Bao for things. When he asks if there is anyone else that Johnny has “an affinity for” Johnny’s entire face changes. He lights up.
Pastor Cal says he feels like Johnny is sabotaging the situation. Johnny says there are times when he wishes he had been matched with literally anyone else. What an asshole. Pastor Cal said that is a really mean thing to say. Eventually, Johnny says there is no one else, but he just knows that what he has now is not what he wants. Johnny says that he is holding Bao up to the ideal that he had in his head. Pastor Cal says that is a ridiculous and unattainable standard. That was kind of hard to watch. But, supposedly, Johnny is going to give the marriage another shot.
At the very end of the episode they talk again. They are both mentally and emotionally drained. Johnny says that he regrets saying mean things. But, then he walks it back a bit. In the end the plan is to try, try again.
Myrla & Gil
I felt like these two were mismatched from the beginning. However, lately Myrla seems to have come around a bit. These two need to figure out where they are going to live since Gil’s lease is coming to an end. Myrla wants a new apartment. Of course she does. Myrla facetimes with a friend. Myrla has come a long way despite the fact that these two are polar opposites. Later, Gil goes to talk to his friend about the marriage. Gil indicates that Myrla can be a brat when she doesn’t get her way. Also, they have not had sex. But, Gil isn’t bothered by that. It looks like Myrla has fallen in love with Gil’s dog and wants him to get her a dog! That’s a way from refusing to walk the dog.
Rachel & Jose
These two’s on again off again relationship appears to be on again. Sort of. Rachel wants to go to Europe with Jose. He wants to do a road trip to Texas. They are already in Texas. Sure there are tons of other towns they can travel to in Texas. But still. Later, Rachel is super excited about going to a winery for the first time with Jose. Rachel says that she is used to having summers off to travel. She worries that she will just be home alone because he is at work. She’s also going to be moving in to his place which will be an adjustment. She tells Jose he might want to brace himself for “summer Rachel.”
Michaela & Zack
These two head out for a date at some sort of sports arena. They play “bubble ball” where they get in these plastic bubble and run into each other. Michaela says it is “very fun.” It seems ridiculous to me. Later, Michaela goes out with her sister to catch her up on how the marriage is going. She makes it seem like things are going really well. Apparently, they are doing better with their communication. Her sister says she has seen a lot of personal growth in Michaela. Michaela says she loves Zack.
I don’t know what happened to these two, but they seem super happy this week! Look at them making their little scrapbook stuff together! They can’t stop laughing.
Brett & Ryan
Brett just needs to cut her losses. Ryan isn’t into her and he can’t seem to get to that point. Brett talks to one of her friends about their one month anniversary date. She admits that Ryan has checked out. Ryan talks to Zack and says that things just aren’t working out for him and Brett. Zack says that if he has made up his mind it is not going to work, going forward. He has to stay open to the process. Zack encourages Ryan to have an honest conversation with her. Later, Brett invites Ryan, Racheal, and Jose to a rock climbing place.
Ryan drops in on his sister and talk to her about the marriage. He complains about Brett being super messy. She appears to be my Covid Level messy and that is bad. His sister doesn’t seem to think he participating in the marriage. She thinks he needs to just lay it all out on the line for Brett. I agree. However, her dog just died and it’s been a rough few days for Brett. And yet, he’s going to have the conversation now. Apparently, he’s been sleeping on the couch. He makes it all about the sleep. So she gives him the bedroom and takes the spare room. That’s not really the issue.
Next week, everyone has individual counseling and most all of them are crying. Le sigh.
