Tonight’s Below Deck Med Recap has us down to only two more charters. But, since Katie decided to finish out the season with only two stews on a 180 foot mega yacht, I imagine she will realize her mistake. Hell, they couldn’t even keep it together with four stews!
We begin with Yawn screaming at Malia. Malia tells David he needs to file an incident report with the first mate. Lloyd is suddenly really difficult for me to understand. Captain Yawn and Malia quickly make up. Three of the charter guests arrived late and have to complete Covid tests before boarding the boat. But the four others arrive right away. Wow. Seven guys, and two stews this is going to be a disaster. I can tell already. Courtney seems to expect some lacking service as well. David is on the night shift due to his injury. That leaves Zee and Lloyd to fend for themselves in new positions.
Malia is already wishing they had just kept Delaney. David is actually moving heavy luggage and cleaning the crew mess. Then, Zee falls and busts his ass on the floating dock in front of all the guests. This crew is falling apart. Malia and Zee are tasked with setting up the picnic site. It’s on top of a huge hill on an island. They need chairs and tables for a the guests, plus all the food, and all of the place settings and drinks. It’s one of the longest treks ever on the show and requires multiple trips. Captain Sandy agree to join the guests for dinner. This has Mat super nervous. Lunch went very well. But the crew is exhausted from all the trips up and down the mountain several times.

After lunch it is time for some watersports. Two of the guys take off and go all the way into town. They were specifically instructed to stay in sight and away from the shore. Malia has to go get them and bring them back. YAY! I Below Deck promo! It comes back on October 25th! Mat is super stressed as dinner time approaches. He really wants to impress Captain Sandy. They loved the salad course! And the pasta course! And the fish dish! They loved it all! Sandy talks to much at dinners with guests. Then she tells Mat that dinner was fantastic. But, instead of stopping right there, she said that her plate had a whole lot of dark fish. So Mat will probably cry himself to sleep tonight.
The guests are apparently only staying one night. This is good because the crew has been working for 16 hours and some didn’t even get breaks. Breakfast is once again amazing. Docking the boat on the other hand was a bit of a challenge without David. We will see how that goes next week. Also on the next episode, Katie and Lloyd are both sick. Lloyd needs to go to the hospital with high blood pressure and chest pains! What a mess! Malia and David are on WWHL. If anything interesting happens, I try to post in comments. I’ve got a very small fever and Banjo is having some sort of tummy issues and bolting to go outside quite often. So it might take a minute.
Katie should have kept Delaney. Something is wrong with her. I am beyond disgusted with sandy and her damn micromanaging. Who gives a shit if her fish had dark on it. ALL FUCKING FISH HAS BROWN ON IT. I’m telling you she doesn’t have enough to do which is why she is up all their asses day in and out. Go talk to Norma (the woman who gets her new people) and leave everyone alone. Furthermore, I live on the ocean. If you saw what I saw in that water you would never eat anything out of the ocean again. I gave up years ago. I also don’t go in the water. Meanwhile, I’m just glad that spawn of satan lexi is gone. I think Lloyd drank too much red bullshit. or red bull. He’s always clutching one for dear life. just have a damn cup of coffee already. And get some damn sleep. I cannot stand sandy.
Katie is not a person who should be in a management position.
Matt – dear lord! How much praise and pats on the back can one chef possibly need?!
Lots of them are like that. Very egotistical. The ones I experienced working with in my life were not like Mat, or that other sweet one whose name escapes me that Sandy micromanaged to death and ultimately fired, who both have major insecurities. Most chefs in my experience think they are God’s gift to the world with no flaws. And they are mostly assholes. Kind of like Ben but worse.
Awe – Kiko!
“ Kind of like Ben but worse.”
So… Adam?
Yeah, more like Adam. I mostly hated waiting tables.
I can see why Katie didn’t keep D. but I thought it was a bad move too, especially as D. is getting paid anyway. I hope she retires as she’s not exactly hitting the ball out of the park here and said she’s missing out on a real life. Tres annoyamente.
Yes; you are so right! She’s just not logical or decisive enough to manage a team. Made things so much more difficult for everyone. I would have put Delaney on laundry duty .. and not been wishy washy about it. She doesn’t need to explain herself.
On a WWHL Katie said the reason she didn’t keep Delaney was because she was so fake and untrustworthy–the lying on her resume and some other things. Katie just didn’t think she could be trusted. I think there was lots we didn’t see. Katie was pretty convincing on that WWHL even though I had thought she should have kept Delaney even just for laundry. But Katie said she had to trust her gut.
Katie is a moron.
Why would Sandy criticize the chef when the guests were happy? It makes no sense -her job is to keep the guests happy and make sure they are pleased with the meal.
They seemed very enthusiastic about the fish and finished as evidenced by their plates being empty. I really believe Sandy criticizing Matt was just a power play,
I’m trying to understand the dark fish comment from Yawn. Did that mean burnt or a certain part of the fish she didn’t like? She loves being critical of the chefs even when the charter quests love the food.
Mat was baking whole fish. When you buy fish that has already been fileted, the bloodline and the external fat layers are usually removed for you. I find them visually unappealing. Salmon filets have the extra fats on the skin side so that will be brown after cooking and I just scrap it off. Some studies think that the “brown” stuff could be dangerous to eat. Something about any poisonous stuff the fish eats is stored in the fats. Since he wanted to leave the skin on the..I think it was sea bass that leaves the outer fat layer intact and for some reason it turns brown when cooked.
Or something like that.
Thank you for explaining. The fish I buy is already filleted.
I never eat the brown stuff and I always cut out the middle of the filet because it is usually dark near the spine. I would not be happy to get the brown stuff, but Sandy needs to STFU
Was it just me but did service go smooth as silk on this charter with 2 stews? Was anything overlooked? Didn’t all the laundry get done, drinks get served, cabins refreshed, meals served? Yes, the exterior crew helped out but if Delaney was her only choice, Katie was correct in not bringing her back. Delaney REALLY wanted to be on TV. But her CV is covered in lies & exaggerations of her abilities. The superstar of this crew is Courtney. Always knows what to do, does it without complaint with a good head & heart.
Mat may be a great chef but he’s a giant man baby far too needy of constant praise. And yes, I do believe that it was a power move of Sandy’s to complain about her fish.
It’s the calm before the storm.
Delaney worked really hard when she was in the yacht. Sure she wants to be on TV, but that doesn’t negate the fact that she did good work.
Exactly, and the “she wanted to be on TV argument” is ridiculous. THEY ALL CLEARLY WANTED TO BE ON TV. Lexi more than anybody.
And they can’t say it, 4th wall and all. Some of them in the past were captains who took shite bosun positions.
they were great, but this was a really great charter group, aside from the wayward jet skiiers. What if next week they get a bunch of obnoxious, needy drunks?
I love Chef Mat. He has insecurities because he didn’t go to culinary school. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, and Keith Richards, four of the most prolific and respected songwriters ever, didn’t have any formal music education. So there, Mat! You’ve got this!
I think that Katie may have had more to her decision not to keep Delaney than we get to see. I hope we learn if/what it is at the reunion. Because it really seems like leaving Delaney to do laundry would have been a big help.
Chef Math is NOT a good chef! Yes, he can cook, but his inability to roll with the punches & adapt to changing circumstances is one of the most essential elements of being a Chef. Serving the bloodline of the fish (to the CAPTAIN, no less) further illustrated his ignorance. NTM he almost lit the galley on fire TWICE. Putting a grease fire out with water is one of the most dangerous & untrained acts that could be executed in a kitchen. His strange personality is the icing on the cake of a lousy “chef” this season… (and it’s decorated with words printed off an HP Laserjet & stuck in with skewers)
That Bolognese was not bolognese. It looked gross. Bolognese has only 1 tablespoon of paste. Matt is disgusting. How many times did he mention Lexi? She lives in his head rent free. And that’s a creepy, perverted head.
Kinda sounds like you live in his head rent free.
Those cakes were tragic. I could do better baking AND decorating at 10 years old, as I expect most of us could. I don’t know why he didn’t order the cakes from the place he got the wedding cake. That late order HAD to be production, I hope. Any idiot knows there’s only limited space in the galley to bake TWO cakes.
I would think ONE PERSON in the crew has made a layer cake before. The decorations were bad, but CoCo did come up with a solution. If the cakes had looked good, once they took off the printed crap, they would have been fine.
Chef Mat has really had it pretty easy, no requests for 12 course meals or international nights and no vegans.
oops I guess he had Oktoberfest and maybe 1 vegan.
Matt is certainly nooo John Lennon! Please do not compare John Lennon to this ridiculous chef
If you like John Lennon, I recommend “The Last Days of John Lennon,” by James Patterson. It was really enlightening regarding the early days of tge Beatles and the Yoko Ono years. I tend to forget how YOUNG the Beatles were when they became famous.
I thought they did great with 2 stews but it did seem like Katie was pushed to do it with just 2. I am enjoying this crew now that Lexie is gone.
Not sure how they did great. They worked hard but had no breaks and put a ton of work on Malia and Uzi who had to trek up the mountain multiple times and set the tables so they were also exhausted. The stews got no breaks, especially Katie. Then the deck crew gets in trouble because David was busy being a stew and the others were exhausted and having to do his job for the first time. There was not nearly enough crew for that boat, and it’s not sustainable moving forward. And now Lloyd is headed to the hospital. They are going to have to bring in fresh crew.
Katie said on WWHL that the reasons she didn’t keep Delaney is that she lied on her CV about having stew experience as well as she’s not that experienced as a crew member. Plus D went over her head to Capt. Sandy to try to save her job. So Katie didn’t trust her. D was just thirsty to be on TV. I wasn’t crazy about her either. So much talking, so much bragging about what she’s “done”. Katie made the right move IMHO.
What was best for the yacht – having Delaney return for the last 2 charters.
We hear this from Capt. and other crew members so just do it. Talk is cheap but follow up and action is critical for five star service.
Katie and Courtney did seem to get a lot of help from the deck, which I think demonstrates the fact that they aren’t actually making it work as a two-woman crew. Even if Katie felt like Delaney was untrustworthy, how much trust is required to have a person do laundry for the boat for a few days? She’s not going to be telling D her deepest, darkest secrets…
On the show, they said the beach picnic was at an old movie set. Does anyone know what movie the set was in?
Agree on everything you said. And the beach spot was probably not an “old movie set” Most of Game of Thrones was filmed in Croatia.
Ah, yes, GoT! I should have thought about that. I bet you’re right.
