Raquel & Jose
I’m gong to get right on the MAFS Houston recap because it’s super late and I want to watch at least half of it before going to bed because I think a lot of stuff happens on this episode. Raquel and Jose are at a garden shop. They are getting a bunch of veggies and things to make salsa with. Jose is making most of the decisions of what to buy. But it sounds like she is in charge of watering. These two have a housewarming party. Jose talks about his finances and about having a joint account that he basically runs. Oh hell, no. I will be having my own account. His step-mom privately tells her exactly the same thing.
Michaela & Zach
Zach talks to his friend Jeron about his marriage. Zach says that HE is seeing red flags. The only red flag we see at the moment is you, Zach. I had sort of forgotten that she moved out on Zach already. I don’t blame her. He needs to get himself together. Zach tells his buddy that Michaela is refusing to participate in this week’s activities that is basically a housewarming party. Zach says that the reason his past relationships didn’t work out is that they women were all too confrontational. Or maybe, it is because he doesn’t stupid shit and gets held accountable. He says she’s too loud. Loud when? She packed her shit and left. That’s literally the opposite of loud and confrontational. This guy is a child.
Michaela decides to do the housewarming party. Two of her girlfriends come to help her set up for the party. But where is Zach? Zach shows up with a couple of his friends. He is still trashing Michaela in confessionals over the fight about him leaving the house for hours with no explanation. He tells her friends that he is not used to her outbursts and he didn’t know what caused it. You caused it, dumbass. She speaks very highly of Zach to his friends. Why is everyone putting the blame on Michaela!? At the end of the night Michaela apologizes for leaving. Things seem to be be going better.
Then Zach, says that he had so much anxiety coming into the house tonight. He was more anxious than on their wedding day. What is wrong with this dude? She apologizes again multiple times. Zach says he doesn’t want to stay in the apartment that night. He leaves. Whoever said something about drugs, I’m starting to believe it.
Bao & Johnny
Bao tells her guy friend about the marriage. It seems her friend knows Johnny too. The friend says Johnny hasn’t had a serious relationship in eight years. Johnny is still in a funk when he gets home from guys night out and they go to bed. He admits he had a mini-meltdown at the guys night. He asks her what if he is in it for the right reasons, but he is not ready for marriage? These two have their housewarming despite Johnny’s lack of emotional effort. Bao is not exactly in a good place with the marriage either at this point. She’s just going through the motions for the housewarming.
Johnny seems terrified when talking to his friends. He honestly has looked terrified in every scene of this episode. Later in bed, Bao gives Johnny lots of words of affirmation about his efforts to make the housewarming a positive experience. This goes over well. They seem to have good conversations in bed each night. Johnny says as long as they keep communicating he thinks they can work through their problems. I’m really pulling for these two.
Girls Night/ Guys Night
Later the guys all go to one bar and the girls go to another. The girls act like they haven’t seen each other in years. They were literally honeymooning together a week ago. They all talk about their housewarming event. Of course Myrla is having theirs catered. Jose is having a fiesta. Bao has an island theme. Ryan seems to be in charge of his housewarming. It sounds kind of New Orleanslike. Jose tells the guys that he and Rachel can’t keep their hands off each other. Michaela doesn’t share about Zach’s douchebaggery.
Johnny basically tells the guys that Bao is not his type. Bao tells the girls that Johnny has commitment issues. He wants everything on his checklist checked. Zach says he is struggling with somethings with Michaela, but doesn’t give much background. Johnny is visibly upset in his interview where he shares that he thought he was ready for marriage. But, maybe he is not. He cries and Jose comes outside to check on him. Johnny hugs Jose hard and cries more.
Brett & Ryan
Ryan goes to work out with his friend Fernando. They talk about married life. He says that Brett is afraid of flying, boating, lots of things. Brett tells her friend the attraction is there and growing. These two seem alright together. Ryan is a wee bit more on the fence than Brett is. They both invited friends over to their housewarming party. Ryan had a huge charcuterie board ready to go. Honestly, this party seems like the most fun. Less talk about marital problems and more champagne and games with their friends who are all married. The consensus is that they both just need to open up to each other more.
Myrla & Gil
On we go to my least favorite couple. I cannot stand Myrla and I think the experts actually searched the globe for the worst woman in the world to marry a hot, hanrd working, fireman. Oddly, she is working with Gil on a budget. Gil wants to know how much she spends a month on groceries and she doesn’t know. She checks her phone she spent at least $800 last month on groceries. He spends $150 every three weeks. I’m guessing that she shops at the high end places and that tab includes wine. I can’t fault her for that either. I don’t have a budget for wine. On a full shop I spend around $200, sometimes $300 depending on the amount of wine, and if I have to buy vitamins and cough medicine, and nail polish and hair care products.
Myrla may spend a lot of money on shoes but she is debt free and has a good income and lots of savings. Gil sends money to Columbia that they can’t touch to buy a house. So that may take them a while to save up for.
After the guys night out, Gil tells Myrla about all the other marriages. She tells him that Johnny in not happy in his marriage. Myrla is much more likeable this episode. I have no idea why she is not kissing him. She should be on all of that all night long. At their housewarming party, things seemed to go very well with their friends. Myrla says she is an introvert so she really wasn’t looking forward the party. But it went well. She wore like literally a tee-shirt dress that may well have been a nightshirt. Where is all that glam from her closet? These two may actually have a chance! Gil is very easy going. But the no kissing thing is bothering him.
Myrla’s friend of 18 years says he has never seen her be affectionate in public. That’s problematic. Myrla tells Gil’s friend she is not going to move in with him to an apartment like he has. I’m not as upset about that as I was last week. If she can afford a nicer place than he can, or that the two of them together can, let her pay for it.
