It’s time for another Family Karma recap and I am starting to be able to remember most of the names this week. YAY! I’ll probably still mix up Amrit and Vishal. That happened all last season. It’s time for the celebration of Navratri. It’s a nine day celebrations of the female goddesses of Hindu.
Relationship Drama
Monica 1.0 stops by Brian’s house with Taco Bell. They talk about Monica 2.0. Both Monica’s are friends. That’s weird. Monica 1.0 is doing a Navratri celebration with just the close family and friends. I love Vishal’s dad’s morning salutation song, or whatever it is. Then, he gives his wife and son a blessing. I need him to come to my house and do that every morning. His dad tells Vishal that he needs to take a Mexican band with him to serenade Richa if he wants her back. Aw. He’s so cute!

Amrit and Nicholas are loving their new fancypants high-rise apartment with gorgeous views and a coffee bar that delivers to their door. Richa is visiting with Amrit in one of the common areas of the building. Amrit realizes that she is not wearing her engagement ring. Richa tries to explain her situation with Vishal. It sounds to me like she wants him to plan the wedding and just tell her when to show up. Vishal seems to think they are fighting because he goes out too much. He’s not wanting to even go looking for houses. Richa thinks Vishal has fallen out of love with her. She feels taken for granted. She cries a lot.
Thirst Traps & Gun Ranges
Anisha is doing some talking heads for production with Dillon. Why? She is never on the right side of an argument, this one. Dillon’s mom is texting the hell hell out of him, Anisha and the producer. Next, Anisha and Dillon get together to take “thirst traps” for their social media. Oh Anisha, I want to like you, I really do, but just no! Anisha has a date coming up with a guy named….Anish. Later, Anisha has her “zoom date” with Anish. He’s cute. Her mom is eavesdropping on the date. Anish wants three or four kids. She wants one. The zoom date went very well.

Amrit and his dad go to the gun range for target practice. Neither of them have actually shot a gun before but his father owns a pistol and a shotgun. He really needs to come to the practice range more often. Amrit says that Hindu is based on no violence so he doesn’t really have any interest in guns. His dad disagrees. He says if someone comes in his house with a gun, he’s going to take him out. Amrit talks to his dad about getting married to Nicolas.
Broken Hearts
Richa and Vishal meet for the first time in a long time. He stands when she enters the restaurant and she tells him to sit. There will be no hugging. Wow. Vishal is trying his best to smooth things over but she keeps interrupting. She is angry… errrr upset? She says things have been building up and building up and now she is at the cracking point. Vishal orders half the menu. They argue about who travels more to see each other. Vishal says he doesn’t come to Memphis much because Lopa won’t let him stay there. They both seem to want to be back together but they don’t seem to know what they need to do to get to there.

Monica and her dad begin to set up an outdoor picnic area at the beach for Navratri. It’s super windy and rain is beginning to fall. But in Florida, the weather changes very rapidly. Richa and Vishal and Richa are all there. Vishal’s dad is actually the one leading the ceremony. It’s quite fascinating and it is really helping my anxiety. I’m going to need tapes of Vishal’s dad singing Hindi songs. I’m not kidding. Then they all do a dance called “Garba” in a circle around the fire. Monica 1.0 is a dancer so she let’s us know she is an award winning Garba dancer.
Vishal Confronts Lopa
Then it’s time to eat. Richa and Vishal are all cuddled up. That’s kind of weird since the last time we saw them, she was berating him about all of his “faults.” They go to toast marshmallows by the fire and Lopa joins them. Then, Richa excuses herself to go change clothes. This leaves Vishal alone to talk with Lopa. He says they haven’t talked in months and his ego got in the way. He was upset that Lopa bought a condo on Miami Beach and told Richa not to tell him about it. She says it is nobody’s business. Vishal says he wants to feel welcome when he comes to Memphis. Richa returns in warmer clothes. Lopa leaves them and tells them to work out their shit. They sort of hug it out and then realize everyone is watching them. OOPS.
Next time: It’s Halloween. Amrit and Nicholas want to get engaged. But first Amrit has to tell his elderly grandmother that he is gay. He’s very nervous about it. Monica and Anisha’s feud continues.
TT, Thanks for the recap. I fell asleep and missed the whole show.
I love that this show is on AFTER housewives because it’s a refreshing reset.
Tamara you wrote exactly what I think about Anisha. That girl can never be on the right side of an argument. I think she holds a grudge against Vishal from last season when he didn’t return her calls for a while.
It appears that Bali’s job this season is to keep the gossip train going.
After tonight’s episode I’m hoping Richa and Vishal work things out.
I still think Monica 1.0 and Brian go together better than they do with their actual partners.
I’m not sure what happened to Richa in a past relationship, but she sure seems to have issues being in a relationship with Vishal. She needs to stop letting her mother influence her, put on her big girl panties and either work things out with Vishal or end it completely. The look of confusion on his face when they’re together is just so sad.
I love the people on this show.
Thank you TT :-)! This show gives me joy, and I’m happy when I see both the recap and comments :-)!
Love this show. I love the culture and my favorite is Anisha’s grandfather. I need more of him!!
Yeah, the Richa and Vishal relationship thing is just confusing. Her reasons for giving back the ring and being angry seem all over the map. And now, I think she’s just a “friend”, not a full cast member, so it doesn’t seem like production is going to really develop this storyline in depth- I feel like we’re left with bits and pieces of what could be wrong, but no true sense of it.
Her dissatisfaction seems to overall come from Vishal not being willing to go to the next step by buying a house together, make wedding plans, etc. Yet she’s also alluded to him yelling and being moody a lot? She does seem to worry that at 35, he hasn’t really grown up, and that he has emotional issues, which I can see. Vishal seems like a nice guy, but we’re not given enough of a glimpse into what his issues really are to get a feel for the “true Vishal”. Sometimes women who are “strong”, if they are with a moody man who doesn’t have his act together, can start to harden and go from “strong” to “bitchy”.
In general, I’m finding myself wishing they’d all go a little deeper on this show. Even Vishal’s mother- they show her leaving the happy hour obviously upset, but she’s tight-lipped, and all she keeps saying is that “she doesn’t want to get involved in the kids business”. Very closed-off. But, I still like the show and will keep watching to see how it develops.
Me too! It’s obvious that Lopa and Vishal’s mom have no relationship. What is the situation with Lopa’s ex husband? So many questions ….. I enjoy this show and like the parents two cents 😊
there is a reason Vishal is hesitating, and I think I know why. She is too much for him, she wants to change him, and I hate to tell you Richa, he is 34, it is unlikely to happen. Best for both of them to move on.
I like Anisha, she is goofy and vulnerable, and interesting to watch. I really like this show, the parents are the best part.
I agree Ingid, Vishal is 34 and not likely to change much. He seems too afraid of Lupa Auntie and that will not bode well for a marriage to Richa. I think he seems much stronger this season and hope things go well for him. He is a pleaser and there is just no pleasing Richa as long as her mother has so much to say about him.
I also think it is up to Richa to gather her mother and say “Look, this is the man I love and I would like for you to respect that AND him”. She just throws Vishal to that wolf and rolls out. She needs to sit NEXT to him and show that couple support. She is childish in that way, so for her to tell Vishal to grow up is kind of ironic.
Richa, you can’t change anyone. Vishal May be your best friend but if you need more from a man as a husband then let him go. You either accept him as he is and move forward without criticizing him or you go find what you’re looking for elsewhere. He will find someone who likes him just as he is. I think these two have been together so long they love each other greatly but want something different in a partner but can’t let go. Did anyone feel how nice it was to hear Brian say “these are Zara” about his pants instead of the obnoxious, “these are Gucci (insert any other high end fashion line here)!” It’s nice to see the differences between these down to earth people vs, say, the Shahs or HWs.
