I’m not sure if this is going to be a MDLNY Recap or not. I got tired of doing them because I was basically just describing houses and telling you the contract negotiations and that was pretty dry. But this week looks like a special covid episode where they suddenly have listing appointments outside the city. How convenient. They just shut down NYC. Production was shut down as well. So it is an episode of “self filming.” Let’s see how that goes. Everyone except for Tyler will be forced to spend time with their kids.
Steve Gold
Steve’s baby got Covid in early March, before the lockdown, and gave it to his wife who gave it to him. Wow. Scary. How does a baby get Covid before the parents? They decided to stay in NYC to be near the best hospitals in case the baby had any further issues during lockdown. For the first three months, they all quarantined… They didn’t return to NYC until June.

Steve goes to see a gorgeous farmhouse in the Hudson Valley. It’s not farmhouse style house on a lot, it’s a beautiful farm house on a 465 acre farm. It’s stunning. All the animals are rescue animals. I love Socrates the giant tortoise! When I saw this clip and the title of the episode, I assumed it was going to be almost all non NYC properties this week. This lady also bought this house five years ago and spent $500,000 on renovations. Why go through all of that, move dozens of your animals there only to basically turn right around and sell it?
Ryan Serhant
Ryan and his family took off for New Hampshire during the great exodus from NYC in the spring of 2020. They are going to a family home with a guest house and lots of land. Ryan is hysterical. Finally, back in NYC, he takes one of his up and coming agents to a new listing on the UES and has her sell it to him. He pretends to be Bob, a client with five wives and a lot of reptiles. He’s so silly. Ryan says that 80% of his sellers have not returned to Manhattan. Ryan’s wife and kid go to Greece for a while. Ryan announces he is opening his own real estate company.

After the MDLNY recap, we got another thirty minutes of Ryan’s spin-off about his renovations. So, I’m just tacking a bit on to the MDLNY recap. Amelia returns from Greece with her father who has a lot of contract experience. He has a LOT of opinions. Also one of Ryan’s employees has a buyer for the how he has spent almost a year renovating for his family. He kind of wants to let the guy show it. But Amelia would kill him. This is a really cute show. I love Amelia’s dad. Ryan let his colleague’s interested buyer look at the place and she made an offer of $15 million. Ryan bought it for $7.5 million. He has to take that offer! Ryan is conflicted. By the end of the episode he seems to decide not to sell.
Tyler Whitman
Tyler quarantined in the Hamptons. But when he came back there were a whole ton of Covid protocols he had to follow. Tyler has a listing appointment in the city with a lady who is originally from Charleston, SC. She has a Saint-Louis for Hermés chandelier that cost her about $25,000. She bought the apartment three years ago for $4.9 and spent $500,000 on interior design changes.

Three years later, she’s apparently bored with it. It’s a very busy decor. She’s seriously selling her dream home to move to Florida because of Covid? Talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire. Girl. Just stay put. Tyler says the highest he can list is for is $4,495,000. She’s an idiot to take a million dollar loss so she can move to Trump Country during a pandemic with DeSantis as governor.

Fredrik Eklund
Fredrik seems thrilled to be quarantining with his family on their huge property in LA. Finally, something to slow Fredrik down for a while. They are going to love quarantine. Except they have no nannies. Also, it is impossible to keep Fredrik from working. Fredrik is stuck in LA due to covid restrictions. So he is trying to train one of his team leaders how to show his NYC listings virtually. The guy has zero enthusiasm and it is killing Fredrik.
Kristen Jordan
Kristen took her kids to her grandfathers house in the middle of nowhere, Massachusetts. Back in NYC, KJ is a bit of a weirdo. She does breathing exercises and manifests her future. She’s trying to get the owner to do a drastic price drop because a lot of people are selling and leaving NYC and there are not a lot of people looking to buy.
I really thought this whole episode was going to be based outside of the city.
I got sucked into the candy aisle of my local Wal-Mart earlier today and I told my two kids they could pick a treat. Right at my eye level was a six pack of full size Heath bars. I quickly grabbed it and they are chilling in my fridge as I type this.
It was such an enjoyable show tonight.
Shows like this, make me want to watch Bravo again. I love seeing the rich people in New York. I have been there a few times in my youth.
The idea of a farm full of rescues is amazing.
NYC is the opposite of everywhere else it sounds like. It is a sellers market in most of the country but there. The mass exodus is crazy. My family lives in Florida in an area that is highly seeked out and they said it was crazy how many people showed up. That area also was pretty strict still about COVID regulations. The state was relaxed but a lot of counties were not especially the ones that New Yorkers went to. That spin off sounds adorable too.
The spin-off bothered me, it should be called “Ryan’s Money Pit”. I don’t have millions of dollars to throw away gutting a beautiful interior (it rubbed me the wrong way) and Emilia looked very botoxed (just sayin’). But hey they got a show to pay off a little of it like they paid off some of the wedding. He’s a smart one.
