Family Karma Recap: No So Happy Hour

June 10, 2021 by tamaratattles 33 Comments

Family Karma RecapWednesday nights are super busy and I am trying to preplan for this Family Karma recap. However, I’m also trying to referee and moderate the RHONY comments from last night’s episode. It’s a horrific season of RHONY. And, the comments are all over the place. I was up super early today to hydrate before my second vaccine shot. So, this one may be late, or perhaps just short. I’m writing this seconds before I start my RHOBH recap, so it depends on how much that exhausts me. Back soon. I’m back and wait for it…feeling fantastic and having a great day. I KNOW! When was the last time I said that! šŸ™‚ #FullyVaccinated #ZeroSideEffects

Family Ties

Monica 2.0 has come to visit Brian. Monica is a physician. They have been together for a whopping seven months and it’s a long distance relationship. Did he just say that when he visited her in Tampa he stays in a hotel room? That’s interesting. Brian’s dad takes Monica 2.0 to the back yard to chop coconuts. He says that he grew up in Guana and in that culture when a boy turns eight years old, if they can chop a coconut and make money selling coconut, he was considered a man and could drink or get married or anything else a man does. So, he was living on a farm when he was eight. He took a whack at trying to cut up a coconut and instead whacked off part of his thumb. Then, one of the ducks ate his thumb! So now one is shorter than the other.

Vishal and his mother go on a real estate lead to sell a commercial property. After the meeting Vishal talks to his mother about going to therapy about his relationship. The relationship is nonexistent at this point because his fianceĆ©, Richa, has returned the engagement ring and called things off. So he finally tells her about all of that. He also mentions that the problems between their mothers also contributed to the breakup. Richa’s mom, Lopa has moved to Miami. Funny how that happens when there is a TV show involved. She still hates Vishal and he is unwelcome in her homes.

Anisha is freezing her eggs and is taking shots as part of the preparation. So, she asks her mother to give her an injection. Anisha having a baby is all her family wants.

Family Karma RecapVishal Versus Dillon Part 2

Dillon and Shaan are obnoxious and completely unnecessary for this show. Shann’s girlfriend wants to set Dillion up. She says he is just like him. That should be an immediate no. Dillion told his parents he was gay by writing a newspaper column called, “Dear Mom.” Who does that? She was shocked but is very supportive now.

Amrit, Brian and Vishal go out to eat together. They talk about Brian’s birthday party where Dillon and Vishal got into it at the very end. Brian says over all it was a great party. They show a clip of Dillon telling mommy and daddy about Vishal threatening him. Amrit asks Vishal if he thinks he would have gotten as angry with Dillon if he was not on the rocks with Richa. He says he talked to Richa after the fight with Dillon and they fought some more. With Lopa back in town full-time, Vishal says the relationship is worse than ever.

Baby You’re Just Like My Mother; She’s Never Satisfied

Bali is glad that her daughter Anushka had to come back home from college due to the pandemic. Now that she is home, her mother is still hovering. Also, she is working from home so she is always around to hover. Bali is both an overprotective mom and one of those “my daughter is my best friend” types of mom. Anisha and her overly involved mother call Bali on the way home from her egg retrieval. They were able to retrieve eleven eggs. Here is the thing, if she only wants one or two kids there will come a point where she will have to makes some decisions about what to do with the rest. The connection was bad, but it appears she was told to keep the Vishal versus Dillon story going by production.

Dillon and Shaan’s mom has a beach apartment that she likes to go to on the weekends to escape her obnoxious sons. I do not blame her. Lopa goes to visit her at her beach apartmentĀ  or maybe it is her new apartment. Shaan’s mom is pushing him to hurry up and marry his girlfriend. Shaan’s girlfriend Pooja is twenty-eight and the family is afraid her eggs will dry up. Good grief. Lopa refuses to talk about Vishal’s mother. Other to say she never invites her over and never calls her. Shaan’s mom seem to be trying to bring them together.

Anisha and Richa go to lunch. This recap is way too long already, I’m going to try to say less. Richa has not told Vishal she is in Miami. Richa tries to set Anisha up with the waiter. He doesn’t seem interested. Richa on the other hand doesn’t seem completely done with Vishal. She needs him to try harder.

An Unhappy Happy Hour

Reshma, Vishal’s mom is headed over to happy hour with all the moms at Dillon’s mom’s house. She has no idea that Lopa, Richa’s mom is coming. This will not end well. Especially because Dillon is there for some reason. Lopa has arrived. Meanwhile, outside my house it is absolutely pouring! It’s like the bottom just dropped out of the sky! Anyway, the moms start discussing the situation between Dillon and Vishal.

Here we go… Vishal’s mother was unaware that her son had threatened violence. Vishal is the most hands off mother in the room. She says that she has heard lots of shitty thing that Dillon has done to her son and she has stayed out of it. She defends her son basically saying that when you go around accusing a man with a girlfriend of sucking penises, he’s likely to retaliate. Of course Dillon is right up there in it. He clearly has no life. The mothers all agree to drop the subject. It’s happy hour. Vishal’s mother quietly leaves without saying goodbye. Lopa is is thrilled she is leaving. This topic appears to be an issue all season. Le sigh. This season premieres during Pride Month and it all about trying to out someone who says they are straight? WHY?

Oh I know. What’s his name did a very shi**y thing and is not admitting or accepting responsibility that he did a very shi**ty thing and is acting like a scared rabbit. Tres annoyamente. My fear was that a second season will turn into a shah’s s**t show.

Vishal will be dodging a bullet if he is no longer involved with Richa. She’s well on the way to being an even worse human being than her mother. She seems to take pleasure in putting Vishal down and no one needs that type of person in their life. You’re right about Dillon & Shaan — they’re unnecessary.

All that and he seems really fixated on getting her back – RUN! The parents are so focused on getting their kids married off and its just not happening. I see a future for the cute guy and the doctor from Tampa.

Even if Richa and Vishal were wildly happy, he should still RUN. Lopa will always make his life miserable. He deserves better.

Brian and Monica 2.0 will never make it. He’s getting himself into the same sort of relationship. He’s not ready to get married and a part of Monica 2.0 thinks he is beneath her. IMO.

Vishal should fall on his knees & thank his dirty that he’s no longer with that horrible girl & her even more horrible mother. Dillion has never said what he said about Vishal – he has just played the victims. And all these parents are WSY TOO INVOLVED in their children’s lives. They are suffocating.

Run Vishal ! Don’t waste your efforts on getting her back. Her mother was laughing when his mother was leaving. A real friend would have told his mother who was going to be at the house. Hmmm production involvement …Especially knowing the issues. I love this show and now this too will be off my list.

Trust me it takes some time since season one was so long ago. I SORT of have all the main cast straightened out again. But the mothers and other relatives are very hard to keep straight. We need a CHART! LOL.

It takes about three times as long for me to recap than other Bravo shows, trying to spell all the names right. Making sure I have the right mother to the right kid. Etc.

I completely agree that it takes extra time and good attention to get who’s who on this show, and then they went and added more characters! I do not remember Dillon, his brother, or parents from last season. The first two episodes felt chaotic to me. I hope it and l settle down together.

Didn’t they try to make Shaan happen last season? It is clear he thinks that because his family was “there first” and has a lot of money, people OWE them some sort of automatic respect. So he flopped last year, went and found his thirsty brother Dillon (who nobody asked for), told his mom to dust off those creepy statues and they would become stars. No thank you. That whole family is a hard no….

Richa is a Mini-Lopa. They will both end up miserable living in that condo together…..Vishal – THIS is when you find your balls and man up! Richa doesn’t deserve you!

I just want to tell Dillon to kick rocks one more time….ok I’m done.

Even though it seems production is getting their claws into this show now (why in the hell can’t they leave well enough alone!), I still love seeing the cultural aspects, and how the Americanized (sort of) kids navigate between the two worlds. The mothers are helicopter, for sure, but that is the real culture, and I love seeing it, and I love the kids’ respect and affection (even though they laugh at them) for their parents. It’s beautiful to see all this! Strong family units generally create solid kids who succeed- that’s for sure.
I think Dillon and Shaan are spoiled little brats- both of them. And Shaan’s girlfriend inserts herself in a bossy way- GTFO with her. Dillon sitting there listening to his mother and the Aunties talk about the situation- but sitting there like a little creep- just very strange. He’s old enough to own up to what he did-instead it seemed like he was waiting for his mommy and slightly older brother to protect him- watching from the sidelines.
Not sure about Vishal- for a 34 year old man, he doesn’t seem very strong or together. Even though her mother Lopa is a total bitch, and Risha might be a bit of one (I can’t tell yet), I can relate to a woman who wants a man to be at least as strong and together as she is. It seemed telling that Vishal was with his mother (again, at 34 years old), on a business transaction, and talking with her about how now that he’s in therapy, asking if he seems more “confident. As a woman, a guy who is still so sort of “shaky” like that would not be husband material. She can hold her own (as I could when I got married), but to marry, you at least don’t want to feel like you have to hold the other person up. I hope he can pull it together. Vishal does seem to have some damage to try to heal at some level.

“Even though it seems production is getting their claws into this show now (why in the hell can’t they leave well enough alone!). Because the suits initially didn’t plan to bring it back at all and then realized THEY HAVE NOTHING NEW TO PRODUCE. So we are lucky we got a season two at all. Also, first season are always the best. By the second season most of the cast start “playing the game.” The good news is the parents are wild cards on this show likely will not bend to production too much. That said, everyone is incorporating the feud between Vishal and the asshole, into their scenes. šŸ™

Your comment reminds me of a scene that bugged me, where Anisha now looks like everybody else with straightened hair, etc. because her mother compared her ā€œsloppinessā€ to the neatness of the other girls on the show. So now she doesn’t look real to me. Feh.

That does make sense. I guess after the first season, some form of “guidance” by production is needed to give the shows a bit of direction. I think that their formula, in all of the shows now, of having one single theme (or “gate”) driving the show can turn people off because that gets redundant too. But, I know production must be a hard job, and sometimes production is damned if they do, damned if they don’t. This season seems like it could turn into “Dillon/Vishal-gate”.

But that’s ok- I still love this show a lot and will continue to watch. LIke the husbands on RHONJ, the aunties really make this show for me- they are the stand-out entertainment!

Vishal has had a year of Hell. He got Covid (if I remember correctly) and then his girlfriend of 9 years dumps him. I admit he did seem like a goofy man/child during the first season but I really am liking this new Vishal. He seems stronger and more confident. I think he should count himself lucky his girlfriend dropped him because I see her turning into her mother. Reminds me of Vida and Mercedes except Mercedes stayed strong and did not follow in her mother’s footsteps. What about her (is her name Risha?) father? A girl’s relationship with her father tells a lot about her relationship with men. Nine years is a long time to just let it go but I wish Vishal well and hope the two new add-ons (brothers) leave him alone.

I like Vishal although I’m not too sure he has a strong enough work ethic to please Richa or her mother which may be one of the problems for his girlfriend. On the show he comes off as wanting to mostly have fun in life or focus on the T.V. show, while she seems more focused on her career. I don’t agree with the mother that he can only sponge off Richa. If he works hard at real estate he can make a decent living and contribute to the household. Well, you don’t usually stay in a relationship for 9 years if there is no love there. On the other hand sometimes one has to wonder why a couple who believes in marriage has waited so long before getting married. It may be because one or the other is not committed or mature enough.

I may be alone here, but I really want to see Vishal and Anisha get together. There was something about their fight last season that led me to believe she didn’t want Vishal to be with Richa but didn’t want to appear the ‘bad guy’.

Have to be honest, I have yet to see this season but have read recaps and looked at the Bravo preview and highlight clips. Since she is doing the “egg harvesting” thing could it be possible that she was being pumped with hormones causing her to be a bit on edge. However, I don’t know much about that process so I could be totally wrong. Maybe she thinks she will get more camera time that way. Will have to revisit once I actually watch full episodes and whatnot.

You could tell it was a set up at happy hour the way they kept bringing up Lopa and Reshma kept changing the subject. I think she figured out it was a production ambush. I like the show but Dillon & Shaan are not clicking for me. I liked Shaan better as a guest of the show last year. I like all the different confessionals with different parents and kids mixed together.

I think the problem with Richa is probably Richa venting to her mom about a small argument and then Lopa spitting a ton of venom in return at Vishal which creates even more problems in their relationship and the cycle repeats.

I felt a weird feeling this episode with everyone talking about this dumb Vishan and Dillon thing. I think everyone is right if this is going to be the only storyline or conflict I am going to get tired. I can’t watch 6 older women arguing about their GROWN childrens disagreements.
