By Guest Recapper Nanette
In the Married To Medicine Recap this week, we revisit, as in déjà vu, the antics of Lisa Nicole Cloud. The Quote o’ Night is inspired by Lisa’s “brilliant” joke on Heavenly and voiced by Quad: “There’s no Chanel boots; there’s no Chanel sweater; there’s no Chanel cape! It’s a Chanel charade, honey!”
When Pigs Fly
The first scene with Dr. Jackie is pretty unforgettable, except when she tells her business manager a medical myth her mother told her: “I got pregnant with you using Vaseline. I thought it was birth control.” Bwahahaha. And here I thought the 1960s douching with a shaken-up 7-Up was the dumbest birth control myth.

Dr. Eugene and Dr. Scott visit Cecil at his basement bar. Eugene remarks that hell has frozen over and pigs must be flying: Contessa and Toya are getting along! The guys discuss last episode’s couple’s dinner. Scott still is bristling over Dr. Contessa’s pushing for couple’s counseling. They talk about how her “military comes out” when she wants something. Cecil shares how it took him years of marriage to realize he didn’t need to “win” everything. Some stuff just doesn’t matter and his life is much better now. He advises Scott to let some things go. Scott whips out his phone and shows them a photo of a lady he interviewed for the esthetician position at their new medical offices. Neither of the other guys think this phone photo is a good idea. Foreshadowing?
Reunited And It Feels So Good
Anila and her nanny/cook, Ms. Gomez, visit the monstrosity under construction – aka the nightmare dream home. Ms. Gomez is very impressed with the new kitchen, even more so with the closet. The nanny discloses that Anila’s 5-year-old daughter Aryana confessed she wishes she were a blue-eyed blonde because then she would be beautiful. This would break any mother’s heart.

Dr. Simone visits Jackie’s office, bringing lunch. Could it be that the Golden Girls are back? They admit how much they have missed each other. They talk about the Town Hall event Simone dreamed up. It was to be a collaborative effort to continue the activism roll from the Washington March. Simone sees a need for change in the A-T-L. She thinks a voting initiative event is needed for the divisive upcoming election. Jackie wonders why she asked Lisa Nicole to help. Simone rues that decision. She met with Lisa and feels Lisa has taken over and treats Simone like her assistant. Jackie sarcastically reminds Simone of back when “we thought Heavenly was crazy.” We are visually reminded of Heavenly’s wrath over equally sharing expenses and then having Lisa says she wasn’t on the event team. (Something similar happened with Quad.)
Contessa meets with a counselor and tells her she is not going to keep pushing Scott into counseling. The counselor offers her some good advice, contrary to most Bravo counseling sessions. She asks Contessa if she trusts Scott with her heart. Looooonnng hesitation. (More foreshadowing?) She ends telling Contessa she needs to give herself grace, in order to open up to receiving grace from her husband.
Beauty Comes In Many Colors
In Anila’s kitchen, she brings the conversation with daughter Aryana around to the blue-eyed blond remarks. Aryana wants white skin like everyone else. Anila shares what it was like growing up in the only East Indian family in their town. She tells Aryana she is beautiful with her dark hair, skin and eyes. She reminds Aryana that Dr. Kiran’s cousin, Nina Davuluri was Miss America (2014) beating out everyone else in the “beauty competition.” Anila did an extraordinary job at imparting this lesson.

It’s dinner at Lisa Nicole’s! She goes over the 6-course meal with her event guy/chef. Lobster bisque, beef Wellington, molten lava chocolate cake. Yoo-hoo, 1970s, your menu is calling! Before the other ladies arrive, Anila and Lisa, who seem like good pals (Spoiler alert: Not for long!), notice Simone is out of sorts. So, Simone tells Lisa how irritated she is that Lisa Nicole took over her idea, sent out a 3-4 page letter to “local luminaries” and signed only her own name. Lisa sought no team input. It sounds like Simone hoped the planning might be a bonding experience for the women.
Zero On A Scale Of 150
Lisa finally brings up that the event was Simone’s idea. She says she was reaching out to Oprah, Charlemagne “the” God and Angela Wright. Eye rolls all around. This is when Kari comes to Lisa’s defense and reminds me why I did like her on occasion, “when I was working with Mariah Carey…” she grandiosely announces, then pauses for comic effect. Everyone laughs, even Lisa. When Quad arrives, Kari pats the empty seat next to her and tells her to sit there; she doesn’t want to be next to a “bore fest” and “there’s a lot of wine glasses on the table.” Lisa says she didn’t mean to take over, she just got excited about the event.

Time for Lisa’s announcement that she has a special gift for “someone.” Lisa has Simone read aloud a text from Heavenly as she holds up a Chanel bag. We all “guess” the gift is for Heavenly, who is not fooled. She storms out while warning the other ladies never to do anything with Lisa. Production tells Heavenly to go back and smooth things over. Meanwhile, we see what’s in the Chanel bag. It’s a bathroom scale. She wants Heavenly to prove that she weighs 150 pounds, part of their text feud. This is when Quad comes up with her Chanel charade line. Heavenly comes back, just to announce her exit, but stays. Lisa says Heavenly can dish it but can’t take it. Heavenly, as usual, insists she was joking.
No Good Intro Goes Unpunished
Toya calls out Jackie for enabling Heavenly. So, Jackie tells Toya to watch her tone. Toya just wants Jackie to stand up for what’s right. Jackie retorts that Toya’s anger this year is unattractive. Toya and Jackie adjourn for a private talk. We finally get some insight into Toya’s problems. I am so happy it has nothing to do with her marriage to my favorite Bravo man, Dr. Eugene. Toya has been deeply hurt by Heavenly because she is the one who brought Heavenly into the fold. She’s known Heavenly and Dr. Damon for 12 years. They were people she and Eugene looked up to. Toya feels that Heavenly goes after everything Eugene worked so hard for. As time has gone on, Heavenly has become increasingly meaner and more dismissive of Toya, who no longer admires her.

Jackie gets it, they had a connection. Heavenly was like a sister/mentor to Toya. We’ve all seen it, without realizing how deeply it cut. Jackie and Toya hug and make up. Jackie wants the ladies to leave the petty crap behind because they are trying to do something super positive. They should be lifting each other up and uniting during this difficult time. Lisa wants to put all differences aside and make an impact on the upcoming election. The ladies all agree to work together, as Contessa jokes, “for Lisa Nicole’s Get Out and Vote.” Lisa says it’s called “Our Vote Matters,” and Contessa adds “starring Lisa Nicole!” as the ladies all share a good laugh.
Next week: Quad schools Anila on wig care; Simone fears for the voting event after seeing disturbing info about Lisa Nicole on the local news; the ladies take off for Jekyll Island; Scott drops a bombshell on Contessa that could undermine their marriage.
Surprised there are no comments yet. Nanette – you did a great job recapping this episode! Almost feel as though I watched it myself. Also enjoy your remarks about other shows when Tamara does her recaps.
Seems like you are a great friend to Tamara.
I feel same way Elizabeth. Her writing style makes me feel like I’m watching the show!
Thanks for recapping one of my favorite shows. I just wondered if anyone else notices how Scott’s attitude toward Contessa is that of someone who really doesn’t like her. He seems to have some sort of deep anger toward her. I’m guessing it may be due to the way she was determined to have her way about attending grad school where and when she wanted at the expense of her family. She could have attended a program closer to home. Also, I see no evidence that her new degree has impacted her work. I’d be resentful too, if I were Scott.
I am getting the vibe that he does not want to be in the marriage. He has been on ‘give me a reason to exit’ mode since he has been on the child. He just gives me the vibe that he wants out, Contessa wants him to stay, and he has decided that he will stay, but he is not putting out any extra effort. I am here and that is good enough. Most men who want out of a marriage will whine about something as simple as going to school for years. I think Scott has left the marriage long ago and wonder if he is around for Contessa to be on the show. He was so distant towards Contessa and the kids. He was so out of sorts with being a dad and husband, he hardly knew how to fix them dinner. And he whined about having to step up to do that. I dont see a marriage, I see a take me the way I am and be glad I am here marriage. My opinon, I have seen it before.
I meant been on the show, not the child.
Yes to everything above
I may not comment a lot, but Love Nanette’s spot-on recaps. I am behind a couple of episodes, so cheating by reading recap 😁😁😉. The recaps are so well written, it’s like watching the show!! Thank you so much for recapping.
I do like this show. As a Black woman, I like that they try to see the need to uplift. Except for Heavenly who was seriously misnamed. That is one insecure woman, even her daughter sees through her.
She is the most messy, unhappy, lying 2 faced, foul mouth Christian person on the show! She stirs up stuff, sits back, grab her popcorn and watch it blow up! Then she is the victim. But Amilia is going for her spots!
My dad used to say that in the 50’s his friends would use saran wrap during sex. I really like this show. I like how Jackie can calm the girls down and get to the real issue. I pray Today stops with the anger for the rest of the season. I want to see Dr. Eugene happy again. I can do without Lisa Nicole. Why did they bring her and Kari back? There was no reason for it. Thanks Nanette for the great recap. You always make me laugh.
I don’t know why they brought them back. Both Lisa Nicole and Kari get on my nerves.
Because they want to justify Ms Quad. When Kari and her husband broke up, and Quad dropped the attacks on Lisa’s husband, and rumors she was separated.
I never enjoyed Lisa or Kari. But as the season continues my opinion of Kari is kind of sort of improving?!
Can’t stand Lisa Nicole. She is a pushy, attention grabber. And credit grabber. I loved Nanette’s burn on the dinner menu! Simone had every right to be pissed. I can’t wait to see what the “issue” is for her. I can’t imagine her design business is real and makes money.
Kari adds nothing too. IDK why the producers felt the need to add these two. And Quad can go too.
Is it me or do most of these women have high shrieking voices? WTF is that about. IDK anyone who actually talks that way.
I was so glad to see Jackie and Toya talk. It’s so hard to back down when you are having words like they did and they did a great job talking it out like reasonable people.
Do we think that Anila’s house is the new Chateau Sheree? Will it ever be finished? Her DH looks as if he is going to have a nervous breakdown over it / and declare bankruptcy. What is with these women who need gigantic houses, especially when they are not brining in a salary. I am not diminishing the value of a SAHM, but actually earning the money gives one a bit more appreciation as to how hard it is to come by.
I cannot stand Lisa Nicole. She reminds me of that thirsty woman in ATL trying to talk business and get contacts by dominating the conversation and consistently pushing and clout chasing through contacts of their spouse. Always got a new idea and looking for investors. It is an instant eyeroll and annoying.
Hey Tamara!!! Ive been a reader for years and you and I have emailed a few times during GAs tornados last year. I would love for you to have an open forum. There is something that happened tonight in reality TV I would love to discuss. It was about one of the contestants from Drag Race.
https://tamaratattles.com/2021/05/29/open-forum-memorial-day-weekend/ This is the current open forum.
Great recap!! Heavenly is just mean. She used to be shady and it was funny, but she’s just a hateful woman. I don’t like Contessa. That whole marriage seems to be barely hanging on and Scott doesn’t seem to like her. Toya can be gutterbutt, but she is real and when she shows emotions like she did last night it reminds me why I like her.
Thanks for the recap.. 80s menu- you are in my head..lol.
I was thinking ” what is this the Live Boat?”..beef wellington, really?.
I think when Contessa left town to go to school, that changed their marriage. They were a cute couple when they first appeared on the show.
I’m rooting for them and the other couples. The husband’s are wonderful
Loved this Sunday’s episode!!! But If Cecil is a realtor, why would Dr. Heavenly use another realtor, to purchase a home she wants to flip?
No love there!
Lisa Nicole also tried to measure Heavenly’s stomach when she walked in. Personally I find this weight shaming beyond stupid. Many people gain weight as they age, it’s just a weird situation. Both of them are wrong.
I feel like Heavenly says stuff about Toya’s finances but everybody does because that has been her entire existence on Married to Medicine. They owe taxes, they have some sort of housing issue because of their finances. I was watching season 1 recently and they were discussing something about money. Heavenly isn’t belittling Eugene, she is belittling their inability to manage their finances.
Am I the only one that doesn’t believe the Scott and Contessa story. I think they are playing it up to stay on TV and get that Bravo check. Especially with a practice opening this is great marketing.
Great review as always Nanette
Toya and Eugene has always been my favorite couple on MTM. I like the fact that Lisa Nicole and Kari are back. I really had not thought about them being on the show to make having Quad on the show make sense. I can see why they would have them back. I didn’t know Kari and her husband got a divorce. Question: Is Lisa Nicole still married? If so I don’t blame Darrin for not making an appearance. I feel bad for Toya, she introduced Heavenly to the show and she turned on her. I thought is was funny when Toya told Jackie, your pit is back. Thanks for the recap, great job!!
