Married To Medicine Recap: Holi Mess

Married To Medicine RecapBy Guest Recapper Nanette

In this week’s Married To Medicine recap we see the big switcheroo of allies and enemies. The Quote o’ Night is directed at Lisa Nicole by Heavenly: “Why I wanna be like you? A damned bitch who can’t keep a man!” Our ladies aren’t the only ones switching alliances. I’ve disembarked the Trash Toya Train and have hopped on the Hate Heavenly Hell On Wheels Express. All aboard!

The Enemy Of My Enemy Is My Friend

New acquaintances, Anila and Quad meet for lunch. They marvel over their similar Rainbow Brite zebra stripe outfits. Then, they bond over their mutual disdain for Toya. Anila says Toya is a different person than when they began their friendship. Now, Toya makes her feel small. Quad still is pissed over Toya’s “bullshit-ass apartment” comment, from a supposed friend. So, both question Toya’s loyalty.

Former longtime foes Dr. Contessa and Toya meet Dr. Simone for a bite. And to dish the dirt on Anila. Contessa asks Toya just what she has said about Anila. Toya displays her lack of self-awareness saying “nothing,” she just is tired of tearing down each other. She’s not into trying with people who won’t try back. Simone tells us Toya’s pride and ego get in her own way. Simone is planning one of her couples’ dinners where they will try to solve some of the difficulties faced in marriage. This time, she is only inviting Contessa and Toya and their hubbies. The new teams are lining up.

Taking A Powder, Creating A Cream

Anila is excited about the party she is throwing to celebrate the birthday of her 5-year-old daughter, Aryana. She will combine it with a Holi celebration. It’s not the traditional Holi season, but this group is in great need of the event, which symbolizes throwing off negativity by throwing colored powder at each other. Anila pulls pounds of bagged color powder out of a box. But, all of us watching know there’s not enough color powder in all of India to heal this group. Anila invites everyone and tells them to wear white clothes that can get messy.

Dr. Jackie and her business manager, Eboni, attend a Zoom meeting with four members of Volition Beauty. Jackie echoes the complaint of many black women about the lack of black beauty products. She wants to fill that gap. Jackie especially wants to develop a sunscreen product. She says SPF products leave a visible white film on Black skin. Volition must kick ass, because we see a promo on the bottom of our screen to pre-order Dr. Jackie’s Skin Rhythm & Balancing Serum. (It may have been developed for black skin, but this old white lady wants to try it!)

Married To Medicine RecapThe Elephant In The Room, Period

Simone works with Chef Angie to complete the finishing touches for her dinner. Dr. Eugene and Toya arrive first. As Contessa and Scott ring the bell, Scott wonders if the men will hang out in the Boom Boom Room (Cecil’s basement bar) or if it might be one of those “freaky parties.” Nope. Sorry Scott, just a night of hashing out the lack of communication and respect in marriages and how to fix things. Yada, yada, yada. Whatever. The best part is when Contessa tells the others that Scott thought it might be a swingers party.

The day for the Holi birthday party has arrived. I am a sucker for bright colors, done right, like this. This event is a festival of glorious color: umbrellas, garlands, lanterns, balloons, brilliant tablecloths and chair covers, flowers galore. The piece de résistance is a life-sized greenery elephant draped with tassels and elaborate riding blanket. Dr. Kiran asks, “How much am I spending on this party?” Anila tells him she has great negotiating skills. We see a scene of her asking for a deep discount on food and a petting zoo.

Battle Lines Are Drawn

New besties Contessa and Toya and their kids ride over in a limo. Contessa has on a beanie and long blond hair. I only recognize her when I hear her voice. Flashback to two days ago when Anila “surprised” Toya at her door and Lisa Nicole tried to play mediator. Anila apologized. Toya apologized “for the third time.” But, Anila invites her to the Holi birthday party, anyway. And, Toya wouldn’t miss it. Toya and Contessa discuss what might happen at the party.

Anila’s mom, Manjula, is growing on me. She tells Jackie and Heavenly about how Anila always had lots of friends. She says they have two daughters, no sons, and there was embarrassment over many things. When Anila got her period, Manjula never told Anila’s dad. Anila and Jackie talk about how women could neither attend temple nor get married if they had their period. As Jackie and Manjula joke around, Heavenly stirs it up with “Was Anila a virgin when she got married?” Does this woman have no boundaries? At least, everyone is laughing as they head to the petting zoo.

Married To Medicine RecapHold Your Horses, Heavenly

This is when the Holi Day turns into Holi Shit! Heavenly mounts the pony. The pony is going about 1 mile an hour as she tries to mimic the moves of a bronco buster. Meanwhile, Kari and Lisa Nicole crack about the horse trying to carry Heavenly’s weight. The legs are looking unsteady and the “back is dipping in.” Heavenly dismounts. Lisa Nicole saddles up in her high heels, arm waving in the brahma bull rider style. Then,Lisa and Kari opened the gates. Now, it’s Holi War! Heavenly starts with Lisa’s tummy. Lisa retorts she hasn’t had a double bypass lap band. That’s when Heavenly lets loose with the “can’t keep a man” quote. Anyone who has watched this show in the past knows the heartache Lisa has gone through with her husband’s alleged and admitted infidelities. Lisa calls Heavenly a drunk and tells her she is drunk today.

Anila has had enough! This is a kid’s birthday party, for gawd’s sake. The onlookers are either horrified, amused, or both. This is supposed to be a day of healing. Bwahahaha! Quad arrives in the midst of the Holi Hullaballoo. She tells us people told her it was Holi, but she didn’t know it was Holi Hell. Heavenly apologizes to Anila … for now. Anila herds the ladies toward the eating area. Heavenly pulls her “who li’l ol’ me?” innocent act, telling Jackie, “I’m not doing anything to people.” Jackie tells her she can stop this and calms her down. This is when I am done with Heavenly. This entire season, even more than before, she has stirred up the shit and tried to play innocent. She even pulled that on the trip to Washington for Black Lives Matter. DONE!

Their True Colors Are Showing

The food looks delicious and is labeled for people who are unfamiliar with Indian dishes. Yum! High-horse Heavenly asks why there are peppers in the darn corn. “Because we’re Indian,” Anila tells her. Like you would a child. Mama Manjula is chanting Happy Holi, Happy Holi, Happy Holi over Lisa Nicole who is graciously getting into the Holi Spirit. Toya and Contessa arrive. Anila thanks them for arriving “two hours late.” Holi Shade, Batman! Kari asks the blond Contessa if she stopped by her house to grab a wig. Contessa replies this is a $1 wig (bwahahaha!), one that can get paint in it.

Anila makes a lovely speech about her birthday girl daughter. For the umpteenth time, we hear that Holi is a festival of love. Kiran explains that you leave any resentments with another person behind in a cloud of color. (There ain’t no cloud big enough, Kiran.) He tells us each color has a meaning. Anila warns the partygoers things are about to get messy. Quad says it’s already messy. Kiran laughs and says a different kind of messy, Quad. I like Kiran more every week. It’s time to hand out color.  Everyone is covered in festive color. But, Lisa Nicole notices Quad’s whites are pristine. Quad’s strategy was to outrun everyone and she is fast. Finally, the gang catches up with her and she is laughing and doused in color.

Holi Ghost Of A Chance Of Change

An attempt by hostess Anila to reconcile Toya and Quad is a double fail. Anila wants everyone to talk about what they want to leave behind. Heavenly wants to leave the damn paint. Contessa wants to leave behind her belief that everything happens to her; and that she has no role in it. “Amen,” Heavenly blasphemes! Toya wants to leave behind fake-ass bitches. Quad tells Toya to leave her own self behind, bitch. Lisa Nicole thinks maybe Holi won’t work for Black girls. Someone hollers “Let’s move on!” and the Indian dancing commences. Anila is happy about sharing her culture with her friends. She says the true spirit of Holi didn’t happen, but she hopes it’s a start. Holi Head-in-the Clouds! (121)

Next week: Heavenly asks her oldest son if he wants to marry a girl like mama; Jackie is confused about Simone asking Lisa Nicole to help with their Town Meeting event; Dr. Scott shares a secret and photo with Eugene and Cecil; Lisa Nicole namedrops Oprah, Charlamagne tha God, and Angela Wright; Toya oversteps with Jackie, who calls her out on her yearlong unattractive anger.

Thank you so much for recapping this show, TT. I stopped watching the last season or two. I CANNOT take Heavenly! Her voice is the absolute worst, plus she is just plain mean. Watching grown women screech at each other is just a huge turn off. I think they should just retool this show and have only the husbands on. They are great!

          Belated, you are most welcome.

And a thank you to Tamara, who always posts these very quickly, for letting me recap my favorite RH-ish show. (The delay is due to my personal duties going on.)

Nanette I have to disagree with you about Heavenly. I think she is a great instigator, plus when she says she didn’t so something nobody believes her. The viewers and the cast know Heavenly is a shit starter. I was staring at Contessa for a while because only Toya was speaking. I had no clue it was her because she never goes blonde.
I like Quad as a friend, she seems lighter this season and it’s refreshing. I like Kari and tolerate Lisa Nicole but I am waiting for the part where they do something of substance. So far all they do is float around, make 1 or 2 shady remarks and thats it.

Hi Michael. I agree with you 💯 that Heavenly is a great instigator. And, as far as drama, good for the show. It’s this “all Heavenly, all of the time,” petty bullshit during this time in our country’s history (pre-election and BLM at taping) and the world (pandemic) that possibly is skewing everything I see as undermining the unity of the group.

Kari and Lisa FINALLY come into their righteous “friends” roles next week. I do love me some Quad (never Dr. Gregory!) and like you, appreciate her as a friend.

Thank you Nanette I look forward to this recap every week as this is my favourite show!

Really dislike Toya but I love Dr. Eugene so I’m torn. Jackie seems really distant this season I feel but I would have loved her to be my doctor. I agree with you about Dr. Kiran he’s great!

Is it true Toya and Eugene are selling their dream home?

Belated thanks to you Coco. Toya said on WWHL that she saw people in nearby houses selling them at great profits, so she listed it as a “if someone wants to buy it at this price, I’ll sell it” kind of thing.

My guess is that it’s the only way she can one-up Heavenly by getting a FOUR-story closet! Dr. Eugene is my favorite Bravo man. He is my example of a guy who starts getting sexier and sexier as you get to know him. The exact opposite of Lisa Nicole’s husband, who I initially thought was very sexy with his exotic features. But his Lothario ways now make me feel repulsion.

Houses are selling at incredibly high prices in Atlanta right now. Whoever is trying to sell can get insane profits. The problem is they have to live somewhere and houses are expensive and scarce at the moment. The market is CRAZY at the moment. I wish I was ready to sell. I get offers all the time.

Thanks Lisa. I do really care about each of these ladies. I care even MORE for the men. I especially love how Simone and Cecil seem to have healed their marriage. Watching their easy banter and sage wisdom in their ITM interviews is often my favorite part of every show.
