Please use this forum for negativity about horse racing, misogyny, how much you hate Kentucky, gambling, war and pestilence, and any other negative shit you feel the need to drag into what was a happy post. It took all of five minutes for the rain on my parade to start.
Debbie Downer here.
I hate fucking horse racing because of how abhorrently race horses are treated that don’t make it to the derby.
The term ‘horse trader’ is derogatory for a reason.
Okay, I’ve said my piece.
I lived in prospect county, KY where most of the derby horses are kept. I agree with you a million percent. Also, the cable guy wouldn’t install my TV and Internet because ‘the man of the house wasn’t there”. Worst year of my life. I don’t miss La Grange for a second. Women and animals are treated terribly there, in my experience. Churchill Downs is a so rundown.
Me too. And the damage gambling does to families.
I’m in Australia, enjoying the last of the cool nights and warm days before winter starts to kick in.
THIS IS THE FORUM FOR NEGATIVITY. KNOCK YOURSELVES OUT, I WON’T BE READING COMMENTS.
I don’t watch the horse races. I watch NASCAR races.
One of my twin daughters (19 yrs old) and I do too..4th generation, from my beloved late grandfather, my Dear Daddy, me…who are your faves?
I fell in love with Jeff Gordon decades ago. I love Dale Jr. just for being such a sweet person. Kevin Harvick is halarious… when he pushed Brad into into Jeff Gordon…I love Ryan Newman…I sobbed when he got in that bad wreck. Truex is a nice guy. I don’t miss Jimmy Johnson …at all. I am excited that Micheal Jordon is a team owner. I also have a soft spot for Matt Kenseth. I really loved Tony “Smoke” Stewart. He was broken when that young Sprint driver, that he hit, died. I cried really hard when Dale Sr. died. Clint Boyer is funny.
Ok. Not negative (I’m always happy!), but I totally enjoy watching all the show casts enjoy dinner, looking up the restaurants shown and then trying out recipes for dishes I’d like to eat. Spreading my personal dinner menu. Anyone else interested in having fun?
My parents owned race horses when I was growing up. They bought Koh off the track, she wasn’t a race material as she “fell apart on game day” but he had excellent bloodlines, so rhey brought her to Kentucky to be bred and they trained her baby to race. I can tell you being in the barns at the race tracks that it’s not glamorous for the horses. The trainer feed her dusty hay when she was at the racetrack and she got got colic and died, after being at the U of MN animal hospital for a month. The horses who are not the winners have their lives ended by euthanasia or they will end up in slaughter auctions. Thoroughbreds don’t always have the best temperament as they are hot-blooded horses, so they don’t make the best pets or riding horses. I had Koh until she died two years ago and I can’t count the amount of times she tried to run me over lol but I loved her so much, unfortunately most racehorses don’t get the luxury to live out their lives unless they are big winners.
I am sure the statements opposing the Kentucky Derby are factual. Life isn’t great. That said…Horse racing is in my blood. My dad was head clocker for the Los Angeles turf club for decades. My grandfather was a trainer, and my aunts and uncles were pony boys. I’m familiar with the love and care and commitment my family feels toward thoroughbred racehorses. All that ended in early 2000s. Almost everyone is passed. I know I heard more complaints as the years went by, but isn’t that the case with any longtime job?
I think horse racing is nearly dead, like the monarchy and DVDs.
I’m not sure I feel good about any of it.
Have a great day. Thank you, TT.
I don’t think that commenting on gambling and animal cruelty is negative.
Well, I worked for Gene Klein the year he won the Kentucky Derby with “Winning Colors”
At the time he was retired from owning the “Chargers football team” ( my hubs had season tickets way before I came along, he still wears Charger gear, lol, true fan)
Anyhow my office was looking out on the area where they taught ponies to get through the areas to race.
It was in Rancho Santa and Nothing was more beautiful than the fog, the trainers kindness, and Wayne Lucas landing his helicopter to check on the ponies.
I have memories as well as “dating” a quite older man taking me to the private area to watch races.
The news was EVERYWHERE the day after “Winning Colors” won.
I loved that time , I was in charge of assisting extremely wealthy people get their custom items and was in charge of the contractors making it happen.
It was a development of custom homes, in Rancho Santa Fe.
I was unqualified but “knew” the grandson personally.
Call it what you want, I did a good job, met many interesting people and will NEVER forget “Winning Colors”.
Cheryl B, how cool! It really is an interesting Niche, isn’t it? And lot of what these naysayers profess is their ignorance about how incredibly well these horses are truthfully treated. Rubdowns, massages, jacuzzi bathtubs, Muscle Therapy, grade A Foods, the best veterinary care money can buy, and treated better than 90% of the human beings on the planet. Are they run hard and put up wet? Yes! That is what a champion makes! And the horses want to do it. No candy assing on that level- top notch thoroughbred horses want nothing more than to go out there and run like motherfukers and try to win. It’s inbred in them if you have a well-bred horse before you even start training them as a baby
Friday morning I fell down my stairs. Yesterday I finally went to urgent care and today I’m all hopped up on pain killers and muscle relaxer. I can’t come up with any negative thoughts if I tried…. unless the drugs wear off and I’m forced to try to sit or stand. I do not recommend bouncing down 12 stairs on your butt.
Eeeewwwe. Being a person living on pain meds, I sympathize, and if any crazy comments appear, I get it, LOL.😊
Hope you feel better and suppose the padding on my ass would handle Empire state building!
Aha!
Scary and I am glad you are okay. Joking aside.
Thank you! I told the dr that 185 pounds of padding is why I only fractured it and didn’t actually break it.
Gambling is just the worst! yuk! don’t get me started on horse races!! not a fan of misogyny either.
Here’s my negative comment about car races. Cars, driving around in circles. Woo, such fun. I’d rather watch paint dry. One of the worst days of my life was a day spent at a race track my husband forced me to go to after I’d already told him I don’t care for races. At least a horse race is over quickly.
Have you ever seen those horses crash? The domino effect…Someone always dies and has to be put down from injuries. They put those black tents around the injured horse, who usually has broken legs, laying there waiting for a doctor to get there and end their suffering. How can anyone say they like horse racing?
I just reread my comment looking for where I said I liked horse racing. It isn’t there. I don’t like racing of any kind or professional sports. Period.
Aww! I’m sorry!
Love you!
