Soup and Sandwich, the highlight of my day.

Today was Kentucky Derby Day, It was a six hour event on NBC but the race is literally two minutes. Not sure how that really happens but I saw most of it and took a break to go to the grocery store because I was out of dog food, water, wine, beer, and any sort of raw fruit and vegetable and needed bug traps and a new filter for my air conditioner. You know, the necessities. 🙂

I picked three horses for the race, the favorite, Essential Quality (some guy bet $2.5 million on him), he came in fourth. Oops! My second pick was Midnight Bourbon. He had the oldest jockey and seemed like a good horse. He didn’t place either, he was somewhere in the middle. My final choice was longshot, Soup and Sandwich. Because, how great of a name is that? And he had the youngest jockey. Well it was a very exciting race, but the first 45 seconds or so were the best. SOUP AND SANDWICH WAS IN SECOND! SECOND! I was screaming at the TV. It was glorious.

Derby HatAnd then that sweet horse ran out of gas. Soup and Sandwich is owned by a female owner who is some relation to the guy who started the Campbell’s Soup company.Granddaughter maybe Anyway, Soup and Sandwich tuckered out and came in dead last. I didn’t bet anything. I just like to have horses to root for and usually post my picks on Twitter just in case I am a genius or something. It appears I am not a genius. But it was fun.

The weather was beautiful today in the ATL. I made it out of the house for a trip to Kroger for gas and groceries and I am completely exhausted. I still have not put them all away. Tomorrow my big plan is to find the kitchen floor. I’m sure it is under there somewhere. I am sweeping and mopping impaired. Ask anyone who has ever seen me try. I am sure this will be a diagnosis in the next DSM.

What are you guys up to this weekend? Also Happy Easter to all my Orthodox friends. Especially, my favorite one who got another year older today.

UPDATE: Any negative comments you have about about horse racing, misogyny, how much you hate Kentucky,  gambling, war and pestilence, and any other negative shit you feel the need to drag into what was a happy post. You should post here.

Another Baltimore girl here (although now I live north of the city, but born and raised in the city and dearly love it). So the Preakness is also in my blood- along with many a day spent in the infield during my misspent youth, lol! The horse races are exciting, and this year especially, as harbingers of a beautiful spring, and of life slowly beginning to get back to some semblance of normal!

Oh for fucksake. This is why we can’t have nice things.

In other news I JUST TOOK A SHOWER AND WASHED MY HAIR! I also have a brand new pair of PJs (that I hope fit. they came from CHINA so that is generally a problem). Those of you with anxiety and depression, you know what a big deal this is. Especially if you live alone. Hope I inspire you to take one too. I’m pulling for you!

P.S. The new PJs did NOT fit.

Tamara, you need anything? You usually say no but thinking after you took in Lawn Bay recently you maybe could use a mother’s day gift. You are a Momma to many here. Just saying. Anything ? Besides the box wine and the expensive ham someone gives you.

My dad reminded me about The Derby today. That’s how disconnected I’ve been!

I’m just trying to keep myself together and get my house in order for my first trip out of town and out of state next month. These kinds of trips used to be no big deal for me, but I haven’t been on an airplane in 14 months. I’ve hardly even gotten in a car since the first round of lockdowns!

Ha! Now, I’m remembering my last trip to Hawaii in 2018. I certainly won’t mind returning some time in the (hopefully not too distant!) future. Where I stayed, there was this “secret cove” within walking distance that I sometimes still dream about.

Oh, and since we’re talking about travel, I might as well disclose that I got my second vaccine shot yesterday. I felt a little tired yesterday, then a little more drowsy earlier today, and the spot in my arm where I got the shot is still a little sore. Really, that’s it in terms of side effects.

I’m hoping that walk-ins will be available in my area soon. My mental health is such that I never know if I can keep an appointment. If there isn’t one soon, I’ll have to buck up and do the appointment route. Appointments are still often booked in my county which is a good thing. The metro area is vacinating and the rural parts of GA are NOT. For a while there, the city folks were going to the country where there were plenty of available appointments. There was a huge one at Brave’s stadium today and all I could think was, why would I go to a stadium full of unvacinnated people to get a vaccine. Also, I’d prefer Moderna (as Erica says House of Dolly). Which one did you get? Also how long is it between vaccines? I can’t remember ANYTHING.

The vaccination center I visited carried Pfizer-BioNTech, so that’s what I got. For Pfizer, there’s a 21 day waiting period between shots. For Moderna, it’s 28 days.

Here in Vegasland we have a lot of places with plenty of open appointments, and more sites are starting to accept no appointment walk-in’s.

I think I will go this week. I no longer have anxiety regarding side affects.😊
It does seem Vegas is making it easy.
My daughter was with her man picking up prescription for him and Walgreen told her to come in and bypass the others to get vaccine.
(Her man has gone through Chemo so that may have been part of it)
That Nextdoor app.has pop.ups throughout the locations. It is becoming too easy not to.get it done.😕😣

T – if you really think it will be hard for you, keep an eye out for the J & J. I don’t think you are in the age range / risk group for the blood clot issue (and it was SIX PEOPLE TOTAL… out of EIGHT MILLION.)

Plus, you are one and done. Just wait two weeks until you consider yourself fully vaxxed.

Otherwise it is 5 weeks on Pfizer to full vaccination, and 6 weeks on Moderna. (3 weeks between shots on Pfizer, 4 weeks between your Dolly Doses)

I’d like to say that once that fully vaccinated date hits, the anxiety lessens immediately. It doesn’t. I thought I’d run out and have a meal at a restaurant, but I didn’t. I did have a convo today (outside) with a family friend without masks and not necessarily socially distanced.

I think I’ll be ready next week. I’m also looking at pottery classes as they start to reopen.

Sorry the pj’s didn’t fit, but SO happy you had a pretty good day. This time of year does feel like a time for “cleansing”, in all ways. I know what you mean about the showering- for me, it’s not even depression/anxiety, I just find it to be such a pain. I think if I didn’t go out of the house to work, etc., I could totally “skip”, so for me, it’s good to have an “external” push to have to shower every day. But I totally get it. And sorry for the “downers” who felt the need to give us all a lecture on a beautiful spring day, when we all had a symbol of us, as a society, coming back to life 🙁

My son got his second one yesterday. My husband and I are both three weeks past our second one. My son and I got Pfizer (which you really want because the side effects are less than Moderna on round 2) and my husband had Moderna. Here in CT, we’re at the walk-in stage because 55.2% of our population has received at least one vaccination, as opposed to Georgia, where only 35.2% of the population has received at least one. I didn’t take my son for it because Thursday, I was on the operating table having a more than six hour robotic colostomy revision surgery. I walked five miles around the floor of the hospital on Friday and they felt compelled to send me home Friday evening. The nerve block wore off yesterday, so things weren’t quite as much fun and I had to start taking Tylenol. So I’ll now have a foot long incision scar from the first surgery, along with seven scars where the robotic arms went and the scar where the stoma was. My husband says that I look like I went before a firing squad. But I’m alive and no longer have a colostomy. That’s what counts.

I used to go to the dog races when I lived in Florida. I was thinking about that today while picking my ponies. There used to be a thing with the old men sitting around me about when the dog pees when he gets on the track. I think it was bad, but it might have been good. It was an hour or so away from my apartment and I used to love to go there on Saturdays and sit outside and place my bets. I never had big wins or big losses. There was beer and boiled peanuts and weird crap. It was sort of lie living in a Flannery O’Connor novel. But the really Flannery O’Connor moments happened when I was living in buttfuck Egypt and I had my dad’s truck because my car got totally because Daddy didn’t think I needed new brakes. Turns out I did and almost ran into a Pizza Hut before someone else T-boned me. (no real injuries). So that was my last year of grad school I think and I got a job teaching at a college in literally the middle of nowhere, South Carolina. My big Saturday nights were going to Auction night a couple of tiny towns over. The only problem with that auction was that any thing the “city girl” lol bid on was immediately wanted by everyone else. I learned a lot living there. Did you know that in the rural south everyone who drives a pickup truck waves to everyone else who drives a pickup truck?

I miss wanting to do stuff. I really don’t care anymore.

Escape to the Chateau is the best show on TV. There I said it. It’s on PBS. Set your DVR to record all episodes new and old. I watch them over and over. IT’S A REALITY SHOW in the most true sense. A British couple and their two extremely intelligent small children purchase a French CASTLE with a TON of land that was in need of a LOT of work. I think we are on season six five years later and it just gets more and more beautiful. The husband is a chef and a handyman and the wife is the best designer in the world. And the family is adorable. The children are perfect and so smart and help and LOVE HELPING their parents do things You can watch any episode regardless of order, but it will make you want to see the next one. I even like the cats and birds and I’m not a huge fan of either. But they are outdoors. On a recent episode they built aviaries. The grounds are stunning. The gardens are to die for. It’s just really, really soothing.

Sounds like my kind of show- will have to check it out… I’m a firm believer that kids in general were better when we were an agricultural society and they worked side by side with their parents and actually “did physical stuff”. They learned skills, they were (and felt) needed which builds self esteem, etc. Now, with children in front of screens 24/7, it’s literally changing their brains, not in a good way. Anyway, the show in France with the children helping sounds great!

Thanks for the tip. I haven’t seen this show yet, but your description was soothing in itself and I want to check it out. When I went to Europe in 2018, we went to a chateau in France which had been passed down through many family generations. The current residents were a young family with a couple of kids. They ran a winery on the property. We had a short tour of some of the interior rooms ending with a wine tasting and hors d’oeuvres. It was a lovely afternoon. Will I ever be able to travel abroad any time in the near future? Seems unlikely. Sigh.

The kids are adorable. The kittehs!!! Did you see Dick’s chef son? He has his father’s smiling eyes and is a hunk. This makes for a very happy Saturday night. I even came home from our camping trip at the Biker Bash to watch it at home. We were only 30 minutes away so no big deal. Yes, we had our shots so I wasn’t scared and yes, we still masked up and hand sanitized when around others we didn’t know until we knew their status. I have always been OCD about cleanliness and hand washing. Our group of around 25, mid-fifties to early sixties, were all vaxxed.

I personally don’t care for horse racing, not my thing but always interested how the countess luann’s of the world take it so seriously with their big hats. Essential quality and soup and sandwich are gorgeous horses! Loved them.

Back 100 years ago when I worked in travel in Kentucky still many horse people were my clients. The most superstitious, quirky bunch you’ll ever meet. Like “if I can’t get seat 3A I’ll take another flight.” 😂

I was so caught up in the Derby, choosing a Trifecta that had me remembering why I rarely won at Santa Anita or Del Mar, I missed seeing this post until now. This time I didn’t actually bet, just in my head. Back when I went to the track, I’d spend a whole $40, mostly on food and transportation since I’d take Amtrak to get there. It cost less than a concert ticket and lasted all day. Thank you TT for reviving some great memories. Yes, I care about the horses. I am not fully “woke” about them I can see that. But I was first introduced to horse racing attending county fairs. I don’t go to those in person anymore either. I enjoy being outdoors all day watching people and animals mix where the animals seem somehow superior to us. I haven’t been to a dude ranch, although a neighbor says it’s the most fun she’s had. I’m not as athletic or outdoorsy as most.

I understand about your shower thing. I have anxiety issues too. Personally I always wanted an outdoor shower fully enclosed from watching eyes, open at the top.

I’m the same way. I can’t stand having anything in spam, in box, sent, trash. I make folders, move whatever needs to go there and the rest is DELETED!!

In other really good and relaxing reality TV news, We have Stanley Tucci’s Searching For Italy. It is similar to Anthony Bourdain’s shows. I still miss Anthony and have several episodes of Parts Unknown on my DVR which is why I don’t take the hunk of junk in for a new one. That, and I’d have to plug in all the shows I record again and I don’t know what they are.

Anyway, he is Italian and he goes to another region of Italy each week to show the diversity of his country. It focuses on the food without all the idiosyncrasies of Bourdain. There are no lady boys or crazy Asian nights, no blackout drunkeness. But it is still fun. LOL. And if you ever plan to go to Italy it’s very helpful. I’m catching up now, and haven’t deleted an episode. In fact I am watching Bologna for the second time because I could not remember where I left off. This is another relaxing show when all the negativity of the world starts to get to you. It’s very calming.

I love this show, too! My adult son watches it with me. I’m so tickled that we both like the same thing. 🙂

Kitchen floor status. Progress made, ZERO.Instead, I came up with other odd things that had to be done like my invention to keep the bugs away from my back door. I took some fly traps and cut them into pieces to cover the lantern covering that covers my back porch light. THAT WAS SO MUCH MORE IMPORTANT, AMIRITE? Then I drank beer and had a long phone call with a friend. Banjo did get a nice walk in for the first time in ages. We are both exhausted. And the walk couldn’t have lasted more than 20 minutes.

If I am going to do a RHOA recap tonight, and I am…. I need to make some coffee or something. And perhaps a sandwich or soup or both. LOL. I bought sandwich stuff at Kroger yesterday and some of their soup ( Chicken Tortilla) that they make and keep in the refrigerated section.

In other news, after we got in from the walk, the PoPo was cruising the street. There was a rather large fire on the block, but that is actually legal. So who knows?

Have you ever watched World of Dance? It is crazy and phenomenal to see what human bodies can actually do. Especially the Latin ballroom dance couples.

I dont know if we have talked about this fly trick or not…I noticed a bunch of people did it at restaurants with patios at Edisto island…they put shiny pennies in ziploc bags of water and kind of tacked them up in the eave/facia boards or over door entrances so they hang down a bit.

They said the shiny pennies confuse all the EYES a fly has? Dunno…they swear by it. dont think it works on skitters tho….!

I am trying to watch The Nevers on HBO. Is anyone watching? I don’t quite get it yet but keep trying because it looks like something that should be good. I struggle with SCI-Fi sometimes. But I am forging ahead to episode 2 while preparing for the RHOA reunion…

Update on Soup and Sandwich… he displaced his palate during the race. This seems like according to Google that it might require surgery. I’m trying not to cry. I fell in love with that horse yesterday. Any horse people that can explain this? Will he be able to race again? I AM NOT CRYING ABOUT A HORSE, YOU ARE.

I actually cannot keep up this beautiful horse’s status. I have to go to bed, so I can take my son to the school in the morning. It involves a lot of four way stops. It is crazy how aggressive other drivers are at 7:30 am in a school zone. Like, I want yell out my window, calm down, children are walking everywhere, slow down and watch the fuck out.

when you wake up can you link me to somewhere to check on his status. I love that horse and was screaming like he was my own when he had such a good start. I knew that something might have happened, like maybe he got bumped by another horse or something. It just didn’t make sense. But it was such a good day yesterday and I couldn’t find anything about it online. Oh it is up now. He is “fine” here is the story.

If you wondered why Tyler Gaffalione eased Soup and Sandwich and finished last in the Kentucky Derby, you probably are not alone.

That is why trainer Mark Casse wants to get the word out that the problem was a soft palate displacement, that it was a temporary occurrence, and that the Into Mischief colt is “fine” now.

“I see it happen a lot of times with horses making their first or second start,” Casse told Horse Racing Nation Sunday morning. “They get just so excited that their soft palate comes up and it goes over the top of the epiglottis. And then as soon as you kind of let them catch their air for a second it’ll fix itself and they’re fine.”

But when that happened Saturday, “it was too late. And Tyler did the right thing, he let him just kind of go around there.”

[RELATED – What we learned: Medina Spirit excels on lead in Kentucky Derby]

Casse said Soup and Sandwich was scoped immediately after the race, and “he did not bleed at all, he was perfect. And his throat had great function.”

And the Live Oak Plantation homebred showed no ill effects on Sunday.

“He was moving no different this morning than he was prior to the race,” Casse said. “He looked great. And the other thing was, he was full of himself, jumping around. He had great energy this morning.”

Casse said he does not know what the next move will be for Soup and Sandwich or for his other Kentucky Derby starter, Helium, who finished eighth.

“We’re going to rest. We all need a rest. It’s kind of figure it out from there.”

I am trying to go to bed but I am up late watching Pose and taking care of an elderly dog who struggled to get up the stairs today. I get it . It took me two days to get the groceries put away and my right knee still hurts from carrying heavy shit up the stairs. There are TWO STAIRS. Banjo struggles to get up three stairs in the back.

I’m afraid to go to sleep. Yesterday I was so happy and then my friends here started a negative campaign. It’s like I can’t have one nice day. I feel like neither of us has time for negativity and that is all I do every day is deal with negativity. The housewives show is like a modern day hunger games. They might as well put their name in lights when they get non renewed. I want to get the fuck out of here and I have so much shit to sell and things to do it feels overwhelming.

So if you ever see me having a good day, try not to fuck it up.

Awwhh, TT, I’m so sorry that people want to rain on the parade when you’re “happy posting”! Nothing in the world is perfect (and it never will be), but it seems these days that fault will be found with anything and everything. Due to social media, blog sites, etc. I think people who want to specialize in “lectures” feel that they have free reign to “school” everybody about anything. OK, now I just caught myself “lecturing about people who like to lecture”, so ’nuff said. 🤣 I just hope you continue to have good days when you can, TT, enjoy this beautiful spring, and realize that we love you and will try not to ruin your happy moods. We all need to learn to “read the room” a bit better…

I like all of the people who were posting the negative things and LOVE one of them. I don’t think they had the intent to disrail my day. Which is why I just gave them their own post. Otherwise I would have just deleted the posts entirely. It was quite the quandary.

Anyway I am jumping in here in between horrible storms and Tornado watches and warnings to let you know the weather is really bad so if I go missing it is probably because I don’t get online during lightning and I may or may not lose power soon. But we are fine.
