It’s already time for a Top Chef recap. I feel like I keep missing days. Tonight they are doing a quickfire that requires them to use a can of Campbell’s soup. I cook with Campbell’s soup on occaision. But it is something that is not the kind of fine dining I expect from Top Chef. Perhaps they will dazzle us with a new upscale idea. It seems to be a big task to elevate a meal with Campbell’s soup.
Soup’s On!
I’m pulling for Kiki. I was sad to see her in the bottom. I think the ones that picked the tomato soup made a smart choice. The Cream Of…. soups are sort of low end additions to meals. Seafood in tomato soup with some extra seasoning could be a bit more upscale. Shota is have some technical difficulties. Gabe did the fish and tomato soup. Shota made some Asian dish with cream of mushroom. Dawn did a chicken fritter and chicken skins on a mushroom soup base. Jamie did a Vietnamese twist on tomato soup with noodles.

Sara made a mushroom stroganoff. Yuck. Byron made chicken with a cream of mushroom sauce. Nelson did a cod dish with tomato ginger sauce. Avishar made a chicken toast masala. Kiki did swiss chard in tomato soup. Chris made a grilled cheese and tomato soup. It looks delicious. Maria did a cabbage salad in tomato soup. Gabriel did a fish filet with a mushroom sauce. I don’t care for mushrooms so all the cream of mushroom plates look gross to me. Nelson, Shota (!) and Kiki were in the bottom. I am so worried about Kiki. Gabe, Sara and Chris were in the top. YAY! Chris won $10K with his grilled cheese and tomato soup.
The Main Challenge
The main challenge is based on the Portland Fruit Loop. It’s a three mile loop of local fruit stands. Tomorrow they will go to an orchard where they will pick fruit at an orchard. And the judges want a savory dish. Oregon is such a pretty state! There are no vegetables available for this dish. So lots of chefs are having to make a sudden change to their menu. I think I’d cook the Berkshire porkchops with apples and pears. Maria is upset not to have chilis. I’d be pissed about no jalapenos. Kiki gets some weird feedback from Tom. I think it might be her week to go. Let the vagicide begin.

The chefs are getting bitten by bees, and the wind is interfering with their pasta making. The outdoor stations have a lot obstacles for the chefs. Avishar just made a simple risotto. I’m shocked by that. Gabe made Gabe made pork and chicken with plums. One of the judges literally picked up his plate to lick all the sauce from Gabe’s dish. Sounds like a winner to me. Avishar could be in the bottom. AVISHAR! Chris did a scallop dish. Shota did a salmon dish. Both were well received by the judges. Chris is having a great day. Shota’s fish was dry.
Raw Chicken Is An Automatic Ticket Home
Gabriel made oysters three ways. Jaime made Pork and polenta. The loved Gabriel’s and were not impressed by Jaime’s dish. Sara did quinoa with lots of the fruits. Byron did a stuffed pasta with lots of fruits and fruity sauces. Sara’s dish was a flop. The enjoyed Byron’s pasta. Kiki is happy with her fried chicken with peaches. I’m worried about the cook on the chicken. Nelson did a scallop with sauteed pears. Just as I feared, Kiki’s chicken is raw. She is absolutely going home. They did not like Nelson’s sauces either. They are both in the bottom. Dawn made an apple risotto and an apple glazed duck. I’m not sure what Maria’s dish is exactly, but it looks delicious. The judges like both of the dishes.

Chris, Gabe and Gabriel are the top three. I think Gabe will win since the judge totally licked his plate. I love that Chris is in the top with his immunity. Gabe won as expected. Chris had a really good day today though. It’s also no mystery that Kiki is leaving. I am shocked that Avishar is in the bottom. And his risotto was raw! They really hate the Nelson’s dish too. But, nothing is worse than raw chicken.
Now off to try and stay awake for the Top Chef finale, then take some cold medicine and get some sleep.
I was right about the Campbell’s Soup.
I missed the Kiki raw chicken serving. Seriously I know time is short, but wouldn’t you just cut one open, just to be completely sure. I feel like the bottom have been consistently going home, yay for Chris on redemption! I’m hoping for an episode where they have to use only candy and make it savery😉 no clue how last chance is going. Not sure if it was voted on yay or nay on results, but I’d like to know, pretty please!
LAST CHANCE KITCHEN SPOILERS!
So Sasha beat Roscoe in the first quickfire and then beat the last female eliminated. When Kiki arrived they gave the a chance to select their high end meat. Then they were told in honor of Kiki’s raw chicken, the competition was a raw challenge.Sasha had yellowtail tuna and Kiki had scallops. Sasha was very confident and Kiki was all over the place. All the eliminated chefs were there to watch so it seems like they are still being sequestered. KIKI WON! It was good for her to get a bit of redemption. But she has a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG road in front of her if she wants to get back in the kitchen. And with people like Avishar being in the bottom! It’s going to get very exciting in LCK.
YEA! I am so glad KiKi won! I will watch it after Southern Charm marathon.
do you know if any of the early eliminations ever won last chance kitchen?
I doubt it. As much as I like Kiki, she is not as good as A LOT of the people left in there. I kind of feel like Dawn will be there near the end and earn a place in the finale. She’s really good but totally failed out of the gate. I think she will get better each week and then have a misstep or just be out cooked.
I’m rooting for Kiki.. She should have cut the chicken of the bone and fried the small chunks of meat when she was concerned about time.
Make it thinner- it cooks faster.
I’m loving this season. Top Chef is my favorite Bravo show
Top Chef is my favorite, also.
Fyi – it is the Hood River Fruit Loop.
I was sorry to see KiKi go. I really felt bad for her.
I know, she was sort of an underdog that stole our hearts. I’ll miss her for sure. Dawn is making a comeback, so I’ll be rooting for her.
I knew Kiki was gone once they started featuring her in most of the talking heads. I was cooking while watching this episode so I heard more than I saw the food. Once Kiki said she wasn’t sure she could get a good fry on her chicken, she should’ve changed directions.
Same, I wish they would stop making it so obvious who’s on the bottom or at least Tom could have a better poker face.
The women are dropping quickly.
There is always a vagicide on Top Chef. I was shocked a man went first. I’m quite sure women will be going home for the next three eliminations or so…
Boo to the vagicide. I was like what the hell, Campbell’s soup but there was always a can of cream of mushroom and a can of cream of celery in the cupboard. Tomato soup with grilled cheese.
I want to eat Gabe’s smoked plums.Who am I kidding, I want to eat Shota’s and Chris’ too. I am not a chef. I have become better because of restaurants not being open but I’m no chef.
I’m happy about Gabe winning, and sad about Kiki. I’m partial to Mexican food because before covid I could walk down to the farmer’s market and get a tamale and actual Mexican food because Del Taco and Taco Bell aren’t it.
Thanks TT on the last chance kitchen recap. Yes I think Dawn is having a comeback, but they will give her the Stephanie treatment. Basically if she keeps at it, will go far to showcase her food for the exposure, but a guy will win.
Chicken thighs, cream of chicken soup, a touch of lemon juice and mayo for acidity, and red curry paste….I add in cremini mushrooms for elderly parents as they can chew soft veggies.
Family favourite …seriously.
