RHOA Recap: A Whole Lot Of Mess

April 11, 2021 by tamaratattles 85 Comments

RHOA RecapWow. The last RHOA had ten whole comments. Does this mean I don’t need to recap it anymore because we don’t care? Or does it mean my recaps suck? Frankly, I am already looking for anything except Bravo shows to talk about here. My overnight fights with voles gets more views.  I just wonder when this is ever going to end? Women brawling just does not interest me anymore. I’m wondering if we can all find something else to talk about? When will you ever get bored with women brawling for a paycheck? It is kind of sad we even watch this nonsense. I cannot continue to keep trying for a paycheck. It’s degrading for all involved. I’ll try to pretend like I care about this stupidity but I have been done with this mess two seasons ago. So I am going to make it short.

Why does no one see that this is not the sort of show we all like for the first two seasons and is now just utter bullshit? I could give two shits if Porsha slept with BOLO or not. I don’t care about any of this mess. I don’t care if Marlo had lipo or not. I just do not care. This is some stupid shit. It has been some stupid shit. And I am not going to waste an hour of my life for those of you who still care. This is BEYOND ridiculous at this point. I’ve hung in there for as long as I could. And if that means y’all stop reading me, then  I’m fine with that. There has to be better things we could be watching. I’m going to let y’all talk about this amongst yourselves. Sorry not sorry. It is killing what is left of my brain.

I don’t care about any of the ladies other than Kandi. Tired of women behaving badly in all the Housewives series. I used to watch them all. Now I don’t watch any.

Can you tell how many “reads” you’ve gotten? Because from where I sit, your recap covers a lot (which is wonderful) and the comments are usually on point! I don’t comment for the sake of commenting or so that you will continue to recap a show. I thought reading it was enough to tell you that I love your recaps. I comment when my point of view hasn’t already been expressed by you or someone else or I find someone’s comment especially funny. Sometimes I want to comment and get distracted by life. Yes .. I think a majority of us are sick of stupid fights amongst grown women but I think we’ve all told you, time and again, that we will read your recaps and forego watching. I think I can speak for a lot of people here when I say “please keep recapping” and doesn’t reading count more for you than commenting? I think I remember this discussion happening a few months ago as well. Hang in there TT, please ♥️

I agree, Tamara. Maybe approach it in a different way? Would recapping their behavior and then asking us how we would deal with conflict be a better forum? I’m asking practically because I don’t want to lose the connection with everyone here (and you). Then we, as a group, can comment in a more useful and productive way. Maybe that would be a more positive way for all of us. You make your living recapping and I am here for it. Even the shoes I don’t watch. But whatever your choice, I will be here to read and participate. Hang in there.

Great idea Pauline. I mean, the shows do exploit the women and bring in money for Andy/Bravo. Would be nice to discuss differently. For example..I avoid functions that require spanx after 7pm. And, as a 58 y old woman…I don’t go after someone while in public or a group. Seek first to understand.

Tamara, I love your recaps! But rarely comment. I confess to being more of an “upvoter” but, hey, I can be better. You are appreciated.

I have been waiting on Kenya too leave this show for the longest. I don’t watch any of the other housewives shows. I don’t like any of the foolishness that is on reality TV. VH1, Bravo, and none of the other channels. I will support Kenya no matter where she is. I just hope it’s not on RHOA, and sick of the drama and foolishness, and I’m done with Kenya being demonized, and Porsha’s trashy BS that her fans and Bravo work hard too cover up.

I used to love RHOA to the point where I would leave functions early to make sure I watched it live. This year I feel production is dragging out this Bolo crap like they getting a 20% cut. I am over Kenya and her trying to stay in the spotlight. She wants the whole world to tell their business yet she tells nothing from hers. I will not miss her if they take away her little peach. Her story is boring all she does is attack Porsha.

I do read everyone one of your stories but I do not comment but I will start. Thanks TT

I am still here and reading, it’s just that I don’t watch anymore so anything I said would be uninformed. I would imagine it’s the same for a lot of people. We know how the sausage is made and are a smart bunch. Makes sense this crowd is over the fakery, especially when these are shows that are behind a paywall. I prefer to read here and if something juicy happens, then I will go catch the episode.

One of the few reality shows I actually can’t wait to watch each week and miss when the season ends is Love & Marriage: Huntsville. The executive producer is Carlos King. He’s been involved with more than a few Bravo shows, but this show is so more real than any of the housewives shows.

Yes ma’m- I’ve been saying this for a while! Sadly, the season just ended (I was going through “withdrawal” last night without my usual Saturday night LAMH fix), but Carlos KIng, on his reality shows, seems to have committed to the “no production interference” motto, which WORKS!! Yes, there’s drama, but these people are real families, with real connections to each other. I also adore the theme that runs throughout this show, of not only their relationships with each other, and showing how each of them raised their standard of life through hard work, dedication and business savvy, but also their dedication to help other Black business owners to do the same (thereby raising the quality of life in North Huntsville). They’re not perfect, but I admire their grit, savvy and dedication to their people (most of them- I’m not a big Martel and Melanie fan, and LaTisha needs to stop being so passive-agressive and dumb). But it’s so much more REAL. TT, please check out OWN, especially Carlos King’s shows. I live on OWN now at night (Queen Sugar, Underground, Delilah, LAMH, Belle Collective, even Ready for Love). So many good shows imop.

I’m glad you mentioned Love and Marriage Huntsville as I too can’t wait to see the next episodes. The last one this season was more about behind the scenes with Carlos King and his associates and showed them in front of the camera. I do like Melody and Martell and I know Melody is fed up with Martell’s cheating, but they make a great-looking couple and have adorable kids. All the talk about Marseau cheating too, he hasn’t admitted to any, but to me, he comes off as having cheated. I really like Kimmie.
Thanks TT for keeping this blog. i still watch RHOA, RHONY, RHOP, but hit or miss watching RHOD. I definitely don’t want to see RHONJ.

I like Kimmie too! And I agree- Melody is fed up with Martell- there’s just something about her (to me) that feels like she’s all about herself- but I could be wrong and can’t wait until next season to see how they all evolve, not as “characters” but as real people- which is the beauty of the way Carlos King does things. So excited to find other LAMH fans!

Bravo has done nothing but trash RHOA. Boring, trashy thanks to Kandi and mess of sex sell, just saying. She is only looking out for herself. Please recast, starting with the old ladies over 45. (Kenya, Cynthia & Kandi) Boring, acting like twenty year olders.
NENE dodge a train wreck of RHOA this season.

Production should have been making constant changes to the cast in order to keep the show fresh. They didn’t. The current cast are not friends outside the show, and they do not have enough drama going on in their lives to sustain RHOA, and so they resort to fighting to attract viewers.

Fighting has become the storyline (rather than the byproduct of storylines). When Nene was around, fighting with Nene was everyone’s storyline. Now that Nene is gone, fighting with Porsha is everyone’s storyline. Unfortunately for them, the more they fight, the more their relationships suffer. And the lack of chemistry between the cast shows.

I haven’t watched this season — it was too boring. My time is too valuable. I read recaps from blogs such as yours, and from what I read, I didn’t miss anything.

I know money can be tight (and of course am sensitive to the fact that for some people, $10- $15 can be a deal breaker), but I’ve found that investing in some of the streaming channels is SO worth it (and if I buy a few bottles less of wine a month, it’s really doable!). Netflix, Amazon Prime and HBO Max are SO good. Yesterday, I just started watching “The Crown” on Netflix (I keep meaning to, but the death of Prince Phillip and being too tired to do anything finally prompted it). Unbelievably great. And I’ve barely scratched the surface. But I think the quality on the streaming channels is driving people away from Bravo- combined with the fact that they’ve allowed production to be further and further removed from what “regular” people want to see, and continue to try to push this drivel down our throats. People are slowly but surely “canceling” them.

Sorry for so many comments, but this post got me going. Another reason that we’re all turning away from most HW Bravo shows is how they’re allowing these housewives to cover (not show) what’s really going on in their real lives with their real families. The last thing I even sort of enjoyed seeing was the episode showing Kandi’s kids, when Riley was getting ready to go to college. We almost never see anything anymore but the scripted trips and parties- same old same old. I’ve often wondered- how does Bravo evaluate what viewers want to see? Do they ever do focus groups or read blogs like this one?
Again, I’m a big believer that social media only tends to represent a “certain type”- not necessarily “regular people”.
And, if Bravo execs are mainly using sm to evaluate the “popularity” of the cast members and the topics, there are so many ways these “Bravolebrities” can manipulate their # of followers, etc. (that are fake). I could be wrong, but I feel like the execs and production team at Bravo may be a bunch of white, elitist, “east coast educated, pseudo-woke” types, who think they know “what’s best” for viewers from all demographics. They are an insular group I think, and very out of touch. Amen.

Claudia was great however we never gotten to really know her.

Shamea is not interesting at all. Marlo is a great friend she can stay forever.

Miss the olden days of the talls vs the small saga. It was interesting season to watch.

Next season they should have an OG then they can add a new friend. No new housewife.

Tamara, I read your recaps but I just can’t watch women brawling and making fools of themselves. It makes me angry and sad that WOC who could examples with this forum cater to the lowest common denominator. And obviously laughing all the way to the bank while doing so because money is money.
I know from personal research and experience that girls and boys pick up on ALL SORTS of behaviors. So I have lost interest. I lost interest when Nene returned because she was awful. Sigh. But I do like your Felons by Bravo because I’m just dreadful and the whole schadenfreud is too much for me to miss. Because I’m dreadful. And the way you write about it makes me laugh. I can be quite sarcastic (not my best feature but I’m too old to care and also, sometimes I think it IS my best feature), so when you are sarcastic I enjoy it.

I’m a HCW and this has been my escape, however I agree with you. Many of these shows encourage the negative behavior and it’s sad to see women demean themselves and other women.

The constant twerking and imo vulgar behavior and pervasive acting out (Leah NYC) in many of these shows is soo unnecessary .

I do look to your recaps for the info as I’ve quit watching Housewives . The negativity stressed me out. Whatever you choose to do will be great I’m sure.

I watched the first episode and maybe part of the 2nd episode of this season of RHOA and threw in the towel. Used to watch every season, but always wondered why Bravo felt the need to show grown women fighting(verbally and physically) all the time. They never claimed that this was wholesome family entertainment, but how does a show like this (or any of the RH series) show women in a positive light? I would think that so many of the Housewives, or their families would be completely embarrassed by their behavior. But i guess they are so desperate for attention that they live up to the “The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about,” and feel the need to be relevant. Has anyone seen what the ratings have been lately? Maybe it’s time for Bravo to re-think some programming

I totally understand. First. We all need a break from life right now. This year has made my nerves thin & brittle, and on the verge of a cliff all the time. II considered myself a very strong woman, but now I feel like a few weeks in a celebrity rehab would do me right. For what?? Life? Going back to life full-force is exhausting me.

I feel changed. I don’t want the idiotic situations of the housewives. I had respect for these ladies saying we had fun but it isnt anyone’s business what we did. The dragging on of the situations is what has killed our interest. It’s Covid – we’ve got plenty of dragging at home. Where do we go now? I accidentally signed up for paramount plus. But now I started their “why women kill” show with Lucy Lu & Gennifer Goodwin. get a free trial and binge it!

I do agree with your assessment TT of RHOA. I don’t watch it. It’s a turn off. Why is it still on? It’s all about the money. If the show did not make BRAVO any money, it would be canceled I’m sure. As to why seemingly accomplished women would degrade themselves on a show like this, again they do it for the money they make either directly or indirectly from the exposure they receive on the show. Secondly, they probably enjoy all the attention and adoration from their fans. They think they are celebrities. Late, late last night I caught a glimpse of Cynthia Bailey on some interview show with some interviewer guy I’ve never seen before. She was drinking wine and talking about life at Lake Bailey as a newlywed during the pandemic. It was awful, but she thought she was being witty and charming. I turned the set off.

However, my comment was regarding not giving a damn about Porsha getting some BOLO long dong, and tired I am of Kenya digging up the damn dead horse and beating it. I’m not sure if Kenya is being directed by production or this is Kenya being Kenya, but I’m over it. I’m over the foolishness, over the dinner brawls, over the over produced bullshit. I wanted to see fashion, style, nice homes, etc. I can drive down the road to a dive bar and watch women acting like gutter trash.
I’ve been watching The Equalizer w/Queen Latifah and Sister Wives a lot on Sun nights. The latter is a train wreck, but at least it’s not the same tired ass Bravo bullshit over & over.

Hi Tamara I don’t comment often….you are on point regarding RHOA. I find the show in unwatchable that’s why I read your recaps………I watch the reunions…that’s more than enough

Most housewives shows are based on bickering mean girl antics……It is what it is.

I’m paraphrasing Heather Dubrow, everything has it’s time, a cycle, and when people are done they move on to the next thing……..

I am relatively new to your blog and RHOA. I started watching about 2 years ago. However over the lockdown I have watched all the seasons, read years of blogs, and watched many of videos about what was happening at that time. I watched some seasons out of order so the last season I watched was season 3. I said all of that to say it’s not you, the show really is going down hill. In the earlier seasons the show followed friends / people that moved in adjacent friend groups and could actually hang out in real life. Over time we have kept the older cast and tried to bring in younger cast which makes for strange unrealistic dynamics. For example: Cynthia is 54 at a table of arguing 30 year olds, that is so far from reality. Also in earlier seasons the show documented the ladies lives and captured the drama as well. If they had a disagreement it would be over in a reasonable amount of time instead of dragging it on for the whole season and depending on that it to be the show. Like stripper-gate, snake-gate, rape-gate, and all the other -gates. The ladies and producers are phoning it in. It shows they film just enough to get a check and leave. Honestly they just need to get through season 14, then do a big farewell season 15. Bring on all former cast and tie up loose ends. Housewives is coming to an end, we have seen everything they have to give.

RHOA is on at the same time as 90 Day Fiance on Sunday nights, so I watch 90 Day instead and then find RHOA when I have free time. But I always read your recaps. I don’t mind if you stop recapping Atlanta. Your own mental health is more important than that skanky show. Tonight’s the first part of the Tell All on 90 Day Fiance! THAT I am excited about.

I switched after the first two episodes of RHOA and reverted to 90 day fiance. I was also invested in OWN shows – Belle Collective and Love and Marriage Huntsville. The seasons for both shows have just ended but they were good.

I didn’t believe in Porsha’s social justice storyline. She needs to educate herself thoroughly before attempting to convince anyone about social issues

I confess, I can no longer watch RH Atlanta, NJ, or Orange County. I come for the recaps and watch the reunions. The older the shows get, the more contrived they get and the more histrionics they have. Another commenter had idea of discussing the shows differently. Maybe tomorrow brings new ideas.

I really enjoy your site and your writing. I don’t watch the shows anymore, I just read your recaps. However, at this point they aren’t fun anymore. I get RH shows have jumped the shark. They have a formula and are more produced than a daytime soap. My complaint is with you. If you want to move on.. move on..

You have received feedback on multiple occasions that complaining about your life and how much you hate these shows does not make entertaining reading. You acknowledged and agreed with the feedback. However, here we are again… you worked hard, found great sources, and have a talent for writing.

My advice to you is that a job is a job… you may not always love it but it pays the bills. If you find your work degrading then call it a day. However, you might someday realize your torture of recapping shitty reality shows that tons of people read is another persons dream.

I really like your site and realize this post will most likely result in me being relegated to the Window Licker status, however, sometimes you gotta say it like you see it.

Watching now.. I love that Kandi has real breasts, but I really don’t need to see them so exposed. Marlo actually apologized for her bizarre behavior. Then she lies about lipo. Shamea is going on her! Grab that peach, Shamea. Something tells me that Prophet Lott is really Profit Alott. There is a lot of that going on in the ATL.

I am so glad Latoya is not coming back because everytime she changes her hair I have no idea who she is.

Oh praise Jesus. Next week is the finale!

Hey, y’all. As I’ve commented before, I’m no longer watching any Housewives, but I skim the recaps. I don’t comment since I’m uninformed. We are watching The Americans on one of the streaming services, I can’t remember if Netflix or Prime but it’s soooo good. A married Russian spy couple. Fast paced, intense, great chemistry… you will no longer feel like your brain is rotting. We’ve also started Yellowstone with Kevin Costner. I think I’m mainly interested in Bravo when Tamara exposes some of their REAL real life, positive or negative.

Oh and just to clarify, the comments are for me an indicator of you guys level of interest in the subject. I am forever changing and shifting things to bring things to you guys that you want to talk about. It doesn’t effect the site as much as it lets me know what you guys want to talk about. To the commenter (sorry can’t find it at the moment) who said it is the views that count. That is true for my pocket book. But the only way I know if you want me to keep on recapping something or if my other recappers should keep on recapping is to let us know by commenting.

I’m more than happy to move off Bravo and have tried many, many times. No matter how many times I try to shift us on to other things, it is the Bravo shows that get the view. Failed attempts include my beloved TOUR GROUP which you all literally refused to watch with me and was yanked without even showing me the last few episodes. Ladies of London, Mexican Dynasties, Real Housewives of Melbourne, Family Karma (WHICH IS COMING BACK SOON!!!!) etc, etc. You may notice a pattern here. I love International shows and the typical Bravo audience does not.

I’ll be the sore thumb and say that I’m actually really enjoying this season of ATL. I’m enjoying all the housewives really. I think that the most recent seasons have been pretty good compared to previous years; RHONY struggled a bit with Bethenny’s departure and OC got clobbered by covid and questionable casting/production, but everything else is fine if not fire. I genuinely don’t understand where this spike in online negativity is coming from, because objectively speaking there really have been far worse seasons of housewives that people watched with less tantrum. Especially ATL seems to be getting a lot of hate that I don’t understand, unlike say BH where ok first LVP goes down then Denise goes down so their fans are understandably pissed. Maybe it was too politically charged at the start? maybe it’s just lockdown giving people itchy fingers.

Anyway, I think this season of ATL is awesome. I’ll dump some of my takes here to support this wild claim lol.

Marlo: Finally this season she had a bit of character development. She’s so much more comfortable now that she gets along with Kenya and she never looked better than in this latest episode at her house. Previously she was always at the mercy of Nene at best, always at risk of losing her job, but now she’s chill and I love that for her. Her jokes are so good too, like saying Kenya was “clowning” her for her edges before buying Kenya Moore Haircare. It’s always fun to joke about her lack of peach, and adopting her two nephews warms my heart. High marks across the board for my girl Marlo.

Drew: I might be getting a bit ahead of the curve here, but Drew is a total villain. She’s smarter than she looks and very willing to contrive any sort of fuckery for the cameras, from throwing her pastor or marriage under the bus to exposing people’s alcoholism you name it she is ready for her closeup. The slut shaming (Delilah?) this episode was vile. People that don’t see just how much of a cunt she is will so eventually. Don’t get me wrong though, I think she more than earned her peach and there was a void on the how that she fills well.

Cynthia: My girl Cynthia is always accused of being boring, but if you pay close attention to her she is just as funny a the rest of them. For example, the very first episode this season she had to crawl through the jungle and kill two snakes to get to Kenya’s patio. Also, her being so straight augments others’ comedy. Not to mention that she had the audacity to throw not one but two indoor superspreader events in just one season lol. Only Cynthia.

Latoya: Not as smart as Drew is, and very volatile, but just as desperate to perform as a housewife. If she can rein it in a bit (lot) I could see myself not being bothered by her. I’ll leave this one to production though.

Kenya: Hilarious if anything. A joy to watch. TV gold. I’ll say that something isn’t adding up with her marriage. I can’t tell what’s real and what isn’t, and even though I love her I’m starting to lose interest in that whole ordeal. This is not the way Kenya.

Porsha: Also hilarious and quite the extreme character arc. Comparing today’s Porsha to first season Porsha is nuts. A bit standoffish, negative and mean as a person. Her alliances are brittle and the moral high ground she often claims is never solid. I think that she did not enjoy the return of Kenya to the show after having a season to star in all by herself.

Kandi: I’m so torn about Kandi. On the one hand I love her and admire her, on the other I revile her for profiteering from not one but two MLMs, which is simply a pet peeve of mine that I don’t think I’ll ever get over. She really fought for Kenya’s return to the show and I sometimes wish Kenya was more respectful and grateful for her friendship. She adds a great deal of logic and intelligence to show with her confessionals. Not the most productive cast member, but a staple much like Cynthia.

I think that covers it. I love this show. It made me happy this year.

I stopped watching the Real Housewives shows after Nene tried to spit on Kenya. Too much bad behavior and bullying. So I don’t comment on those posts anymore, not that I ever commented much anyway. But I still read. But on the other hand, reading all your posts got me to watch season 1 of Married at First Sight and to find out 1 of the couples from the first season is still together got me invested. So thanks!

If watching and recapping those shit shows are giving you any sort of mental anguish, then STOP IMMEDIATELY!!! There are other shows and trials out there that are more interesting than these grown women acting like teenagers. I stopped watching all of the HW shows a long time ago, and relied on your recaps. I know for a fact that I will be here no matter what you cover. Simply because I love You and your style of coverage.

I only watch review YT videos and read recaps such as this. If an episode gets good reviews then I may watch it. But if it doesn’t, the recaps are still entertaining, because it give viewers your perspective on the show, which we clearly want or we wouldn’t watch or read.

I’m going to do the unpopular thing and defend the cast members. We’ve been watching this show for over a decade. The women who were on the first few seasons of the show weren’t much different than the women now. Similar to the early days, these women have businesses, families and other things going on. I’m a corporate retail buyer. You can’t tell me that Kenya wasn’t having production issues, cancelled orders from Sally’s etc., due to the pandemic. Kandi likely had a ton of drama trying to get that restaurant open during a pandemic. The producers are the ones that’s trash. A lot of the things on the show simply made no sense and after all of these years, we’re still acting like these women are crazy and it’s not production doing an absolute hack job on on the footage to fill their storyboards for the season. In their defense, they filmed during a pandemic so there likely wasn’t much drama going on to begin with. But the producers have been trash for years. If anyone watches Kandi’s aftershow, specifically the ones hosted by Don Juan (he should be the permanent host in my opinion, but I digress), then you know that there are a ton of scenes that don’t get shown. And some of those scenes that he described helped to fill in some of the blanks. And that’s crazy since a lot of the times, we wouldn’t even know that he was present in those scenes. So we should really know by now that these producers ain’t sh*t.

I’m also going to go as far as to say that the viewers are slightly to blame for the trash production. Production is going to produce a show they think we want to watch. They think we like drama. They think this because they likely have the data to prove this. Those are likely the shows with the most views. That being said, there is a way to produce drama that’s not demeaning and keeps people interested. The show really hasn’t been the same since Carlos King left. I think he produces Love and Marriage now. I don’t watch that show, but I hear it is really well put together.

I didn’t know Carlos KIng had been with Bravo- no wonder it used to be good but it sucks now! And am with you100% about production being at fault. I hate them; they’re so out of touch, Bravo execs (if they even have the sense God gave a goat, need to do something; Bravo feels like a sinking ship. They either can’t find production talent at all anymore, or the execs are maybe too “cozy” with the insular production people and are hiding their heads in the sand.

Absolute facts! And yes. Carlos King was there through season 8 or 9. He started out as NeNe’s producer in the first season as every cast member is assigned a producer who follows them everywhere. Then I think he worked his way up.

I CANNOT stand that other one who is always desperate for camera time that disrespected Medusa’s husband in her own house. The fact that security was holding Medusa back actually made me angry for her. Overall the season is kind of ending flat. I was 4 episodes behind and finally caught up and I remember seeing I had 2 more to watch to catch up and thinking, ugh damn it, I thought I was almost done!…..thats not a good sign
