No More Dogs In The White House? :(

March 9, 2021 by tamaratattles 24 Comments

COME ON, MAN! This is Malarkey!  Our beloved two first dogs have been sent back to Delaware after, Major chomped down on some White House security, multiple sites report. Sounds like his fault to me. The dog has been there for almost three months. He’s a guard dog. How is he supposed to adjust to all these randos in HIS HOUSE or in HIS YARD? Also he is only 3 and a rescue. Can’t we get a trainer for him? I’m going to be so sad if they can’t keep dogs in The White House. Was it really necessary to send both of them home? What did Champ do? 🙁 I hate this whole story.  I hope they get to come back home soon.

I was sad too! I think they sent both home so they would continue to have each other for company. I thought I had read that they adopted a third dog just before they moved to the WH, but maybe I misunderstood and the article was referring to Major. I hope the dogs get training and can return to the Bidens.

But how do you train dogs to be guard dogs and then bring the to the white house where everyone seems to be threat to you person?

Seems like if they were really trained to be guard dogs they would only bite/attack on command? Even Law Enforcement with trained K9’s that go rogue have to take them out of service.
But I had a very protective German Shepherd who would only snap at someone if they tried to pet her…most people dont realize that you have to approach ANY dog with respect and not assume they are all want a strange person and hand coming at them. It is probably for the best they were sent to a less stressful environment.
Friends who have had dogs (like Jack Russels) who bite when surprised were told by our Vet that once a dog is a biter it is all but impossible to get rid of that behavior.

This makes me said. Champ is 14 and probably isn’t going to do well without his people. IMO they should have sent Major off to training and kept Champ with them. Where is Cesar Millan when you need him?

This is all weird. Remember that odd story in December about Joe breaking his foot? Convoluted story about he got out of the shower, was chasing Major, the dog slid on a rug, Joe tripped on the rug, broke his foot? Didn’t seem legit at the time. Like maybe Joe just fell like elderly people do and they made up a story to make it seem like it wasn’t his fault. Now I wonder about Major being in the story. Like perhaps he actually bit Joe or something else happened that was a precursor to him being banished from the WH.

I thought the story when he fell and broke his foot was odd too. This makes more sense since who would send away two dogs for one dog’s first offense? I can’t imagine sending away an elderly dog. So cruel to a faithful part of the family. I send them a giant dog hug!

We had a pussy grabber in the White House for 4 years and everyone had to deal with that but can’t have a people biter??? WTF??

I feel badly for Champ but it’s best that he stay with Major. I think that separation would be harder on him than being around his human family. When one of my golden’s passed, the other was devastated and we had to get another friend for him.

In college I was bitten by a friend’s dog- one I had been around sooo many times. I had to go to the ER for an infection. I didn’t file a report or anything, but my friend ended up having to make a choice- put the dog down or send her away for over a month.
Sending the dogs to Delaware protects not only the people doing their jobs but also the dogs. If that happened to a peon like me and her friend, it would be a much bigger issue with the President’s dog.

Can’t dogs just be dogs? They know good and bad people by just being dogs. My cats know good and bad people. REMOVE THE PEOPLE, not the dogs. My god, this is insane.

I think it’s good they kept the dogs together.

They love their dogs, so likely they are with a family member or a friend.

The dog was doing his job, but the White House must be such a weird transition. I hope they either rescue a young dog who can be trained at the White House or a senior dog who is just a companion dog.

It is a sad story. I hope Major gets a little extra obedience training and both dogs can be brought back to the White House soon. They probably should have been spending most of their time in the residence to be exposed to fewer people that they think could harm their person.

As a long-time German Shepherd owner I must say that I am very disappointed in the way this was handled. They should have called in a trainer to work with the dog. I’m sure he’s confused. Their instinct is to protect their people and their home. He’s in a new home with new people coming in an out. In my opinion this is breed discrimination. George Bush’s Scottish Terrier bit a couple of people and he wasn’t banished from the White House. This will be a set back for rescue dogs and German Shepherds.. 🙁

Updated reports are saying that the dogs were sent to Delaware to stay with friends while Jill is away and that they will be back. It sounds like they have been sent to Delaware before when Jill was not at the White House. Most likely, Major needs some intensive training to adjust to the new home and all the people coming and going. He doesn’t seem overly aggressive to me, just still young and in need of training to cope with his new life.

We need Brandon McMillan to the rescue!

Do not blame Brandon for Andy Cohen’s dog, Wacha. Brandon has often stressed on Lucky Dog that it’s harder to train the owners than the dogs!

GOOD NEWS! The dogs went to Delaware to stay with family friends because Dr. Biden is traveling for three days. THEY WILL BE BACK!

That’s great news! I know change is hard on older dogs. Marley and Me scared me enough to never ever travel without my dog when they get older.

Thank you Tamara for the update! It may lessen the Biden’s tension to have the dogs where the pups are comfortable when the Dr. is out of town.
