For the rest of us, this is a place to keep up with all the crazy political mess that is going on. I was just coming to say that Trump’s Twitter account has been PERMANENTLY banned. That’s the good news.
The sad news, that was completely obvious to those of us on Twitter, the invasion of our Capitol was an inside job. We saw police opening the barriers and telling the domestic terrorists to “Go, Go, Go!” We saw the domestic terrorist taking selfies with the police. We saw the police not in the know getting isolated from the rest and attacked. Every day the videos are more horrifying. The FBI is now investigating using cell phone information exactly who was inside the building.
Social Media, Congress, and the FBI Are Making America Great Again!
More arrests were made today including the fool that was in Nancy Pelosi’s office. As it turns out her office is not on a main hallway but in a very out of the way place in the building. A place that the idiot got two within ten minutes of entering the capitol. Someone on the inside had to give him a map. This just gets more and more nauseating. The also arrested the guy with the pickup truck full of weapons and molotov cocktails.
– Michael Flynn banned from Twitter
– Sidney Powell banned from Twitter
– Donald Trump banned from Twitter
– Parler has been banned from App Store (Trump allegedly has moved to Parler)
– House to introduce impeachment resolution on Monday. One article: Incitement of insurrection.
– Pelosi told generals to hide nukes
That should be a good jumping off point for this post.
This is the culmination of the craziest 5 years this country has been through since the Civil War. It’s about time Twitter is taking permanent action, but his rabid fans are screaming censorship and that Trump’s 1st Amendment rights are being taken away. I don’t think any of them grasp what the First Amendment actually is. From the start of the attack on Wednesday I suspected that some of the Capitol cops were members of the facist groups involved in the attack. I wish I hadn’t been right about that. One good thing that has come out of this is I now know which of my “friends” I no longer want in my life.
People were saying that in real time on Twitter and I was like NO WAY… at first and then, it was OMG They just let those people through the gate! Why are they taking selfies with the terrorist? Where is all the law enforcement. They all need to be be fired.
I agree. They should all be fired. No way this was not an inside job.
You can hate on Trump all you want but this attack was put on by the Dems so they could dump Trump outside the WH gate early.
Now they want to impeach without a hearing? Just wasting taxpayer dollars. Youd think they’d get the hint. He will be out of there soon.
I cant agree with the lifetime bans and removing Parlor from the app store only because I don’t agree with censorship. If it can be done to a sitting president, it can happen to any of us at any time.
Americans are tired of politics as usual..Fix the damn system, get rid of the pork/back room deals, enact term limits and a line item veto!
Ronald Reagan called for a line item veto in 1986, and Republicans beat the drum for it thereafter…
…until it became law in 1996 and Bill Clinton utilized it.
Then it wasn’t such an attractive idea anymore.
Funny how that works.
So Republicans then sued to stop it, and the Supreme Court overturned it in 1998, declaring it unconstitutional.
Amazing how somebody who thinks “this attack was put on by Dems” wouldn’t know that. /s
?????
Now those sound like actual facts vs unfounded conspiracy theories and blatant lies.
Thank you.
Golf claps.
@MsRottn Gurl, whut ?!
Social platforms are privately owned company’s. Most company’s have limits on what they allow, inciting violence is not allowed. 5 people died, and from Trump down they will be held accountable even if it is 3 months from now. Pelosi will hold the impeachment documents until after election so Mitch will not clog up the Senate before Biden’s appointments are done. Then find him guilty!
Impeachment takes a majority vote not a hearing. Then Senate decides. If convicted he will lose his lifetime benefits, so fair after how our Nation has suffered from Covid under his inept watch.
You don’t need lengthy hearings when the president encourages sedition on live TV. The truth has been shown to the entire world. If you can’t see that, then you have been brainwashed and a member of a cult.
Plenty of people have been banned or put in Twitmo for bad behavior. A “Leader” of a country gets no special treatment.
Actually, political leaders do get more leeway than mere mortals. However, Trump crossed ALL the lines when it came to rules of posting.
The Democrats couldn’t put Hilary in office etc, but they planned this riot by appealing to disgruntled Trump supporters to riot…..And your hero; the stable genius Himself, failed to notice this setup and welcomed them…And this sounds logical to you. I am seriously concerned about people who adamantly refuse to visit reality.
Trump is NOT being censored. He has hundreds of reporters at his beck and call. He wants to communicate thru Twitter so he can say anything he wants w/o questions
House Democrats are working on impeachment articles and, hopefully, some Republicans will do the right thing and honor their oath to the constitution and support this effort.
Wednesday’s event demonstrates that this president will do anything for his own interests/ego. Senator Murkowski (R) issued a statement to that effect. As long as he remains in office, we are all in danger. Let’s hope for all our sakes that he is removed before any further tragedy occurs.
The officers at the top who intentionally let the terrorists in should be charged with the murder of the police officer
I think every terrorist who was there should be charged with murder.
Somebody dies during the commission of a crime = felony murder.
I’ll be interested to see what the “blue lives matter” crowd has to say about it.
If some of these Blue Lives were instrumental in what led to the death of one of their own and the injury and maiming of others, that is one of the most despicable acts in this dark day in our history. They should be fired and lose all benefits and pension.
At least many in the mob TRULY BELIEVE Trump’s lies. They TRULY BELIEVE they are patriots. They’re stupid, but nothing as disgraceful as if a cop facilitated the actions. The cops KNEW what was happening.
My thoughts
1. Benghazi had how many hearings about four deaths? Foreign terrorists
We had five on domestic soil. Domestic Terrorists
2. Clarence Thomas wife cheered them on.
3. Charles Manson did not kill Tate, Tate’s guests or the LaBiancas. He just inspired his brain dead cult to violence over a fairytale. He was given the death penalty which became life in prison.
Orange Manson deserves the same.
Four of the five deaths were terrorists.
60 officers were wounded, over a dozen were hospitalized and one was murdered. The cops who were complicit with the terrorists should be charged.
Charged with conspiracy to commit murder and sent to trial. A better deal than the killed and maimed got.
I assume you feel the same way regarding the animals in Portland/Seattle?
Charles Manson entered the LaBianca home first and physically tied up Mr. and Mrs. LaBianca.
That made him a participant in the crime and not just a conspirator.
I think what happened to Manson is too good for Trump.
He’s such a wannabe facist dictator, let’s let Mussollini’s end be a model.
Hanged upside-down, beaten and pissed upon sounds about right.
I was so dismayed and upset Wednesday that I just sat in front of the TV and cried. How in the world is this happening?
I still feel numb and have the urge to just keep checking Twitter for what is happening now. And I cried too.
Watching from London was surreal, could not believe what we were seeing, absolutely horrifying, although the man with the horns bears quite a startling resemblance to Jamiroquai lead singer Jay K, and the social media comments that ensued re their resemblance brought me some much needed smiles on a very sad day indeed…
We had police unions backing Trump in the 2020 elections, so it’s hard to trust a lot of them with it comes to election issues, unfortunately. Also Twitter is a day late and a dollar short banning him. They gave him a platform to use to spread more propaganda and hate..I hope we have better people guarding Biden at the inauguration.
Biden already requested and received new Secret Service because the first group appeared to be pro Trump. I think he likes the new ones.
WHAT??????
That is TERRIBLE.
Fuckers.
Your reply made me chuckle. Short, sweet and to the point. Something I would’ve typed lol.
His detail from his VP days returned ??????????
Trump’s now tweeting threats from the @POTUS account. I’m not exaggerating. This is so terrifying to watch.
My PTSD is really flaring up. All those memories from his rallies keep coming back.
How can we survive the next 12 days?
Our Democracy might not survive Trump. You want PTS, check out BBC or German TV news, see how they now see the once admired USA. They sound so sad and dismayed.
I’m already calling it 11 days and assuming we survive the next three hours on the east coast.
I posted Trumps deleted POTUS tweets in the main post. Hang tough my friend.
My only positive on this horrific day is that it broke the spell for many Trump supporters. They finally saw what we have seen all along. A delusional man with a dangerous personality disorder – who should never have been elected. I never in a million years thought Lindsay Graham would give me chills – but to hear him denounce Trump (Finally) was something incredible to watch. Even Tucker Carlson (I watch all the different news sites to see all sides) FINALLY said – no ONE MAN is worth this. Our Democracy is way more important than this one man. It the midst of tragedy, it was wonderful to see the Trump fog lift from many of his supporters eyes.
And, Trump saying – “I LOVE YOU – You are special people” with his 4th grader vocabulary. Lord help me.
Hooray for the Apple banning Parler. I’m sure they will find other ways around – but it will slow them down. Hooray for Twitter, hooray for Facebook. Let the countdown start!
Thank you all for being here.
Tucker Carlson denounced him? I was flipping around during all of the madness and when his show came on the rest of the coverage stopped. It was just him blathering. I made it less than five minutes then I realized they were not going back to the street and Tucker was going to sing him a love song.
He basically said none of this is worth one man. No one man is worth losing our proven system of democracy. I have zero love for Tucker Carlson, but it was hopeful seeing FOX presenters denounce him.
I’m glad some finally saw the light but I wish more would and admit the monster he is. My husband still refuses to say anything negative about him just that ..”as of late he’s made some mistakes”. Sooo disheartening it brings me to tears. I don’t care what party someone is it’s about basic morals, ethics and human decency. So thankful the narcissist is finally without a public platform even though far too late.
Amy we are in the same boat. My husband said he did not vote for him this time, but he will not condemn him. It’s about human decency. My heart is breaking. What is left of my family – and the majority of my town – is hard-core Trump. Being open to others beliefs is a skill I possess, but this week has brought me to my knees. I spent all day Wednesday moving my mom into assisted living and came home this nightmare. My mother is my only pro-democracy family member. And, at 89 she has ZERO filter about Trump. And her clarity about him is the best when a lot of life is murky.
Your mom is my type of woman lol. As are you. Hang in there, he’s almost gone and maybe politics can get back to being boring and quiet. Common sense and compassion aren’t abundant this day and age (apparently) but I would rather have those qualities than not. This too shall pass.
Denouncing Trump now is to little too late. For 5 years these people have promoted Trumps lies. They have endorsed Trumps crazy to people to make them believe. To help convince people Trump was the best, the only man that can save their country.
People believed them.
Who cares “they see the light” now. These are not stupid people they knew exactly what Trump is but it got people to support and vote their way,
None of those Trump mouth pieces cared about anything or anyone but used people to get what they wanted.
Tucker Carlson was looking at a future Presidential run.
And Lindsey Graham is catching hell at the airport. Of course, he deserves it because he has supported this man for so long. I guess being scared for you life and being hunkered down with a some type of gas mask can do that to you. I wonder if any of those politicians thought about how our school kids feel when some maniac is shooting up a school because they won’t put in some sensible gun laws.
if only they were that human sigh
^^ this ❣️
Trump had replaced top Pentagon officers weeks ago with his loyal buddies. Most major protests or walks, BLM weeks ago to the Capitol building had it surrounded by National Guard. This planned protest did not.
Then the Pentagon refused to send in the Guard. Think what you will.
National Guard from a neighboring state after 1 1/2 hours of waiting finally got permission to go from a military general.
I’ve no idea why anyone is shocked. In 2016 Trump said he wanted 12 more years then have Ivanka take over. How did people think he would get his desire filled?
Trump has told us from the beginning what he wanted. His supporters never listened or possibly wanted exactly this.
Extremely disheartening when people believe so deeply in a lying con man, grifter family, that wanted to be your everything.
IF Trump and his active supporters are not held accountable this will happen again by a much smarter person with a much better plan.
Exactly – this is a blueprint for the next one who will be much more intelligent than the orange one. I hope there are severe consequences for everyone involved
I don’t mean to scare people, BUT Hitler’s first coup d’etat attempt failed. 10 years later he was leading a world war.
Not the first time he’s used Hitler’s playbook. He even copied the law about what architecture is acceptable or not.
Yes and yet readers even in here still believe in the Orange one. I’ve listened to right wing radio a few times.
It would make most of you literally sick. Stomach turning the lies and hate about Democrats. These people are brain washed or something. So scary.
That is why Trunp needs to be impeached immediately. To send a message to the next wannabe dictator.
Someone from the pentagon was on. They offered the help of the National Guard last wk. The Capitol Police said they would get back to them. They refused their help on Sun. Not sure why it took them so long to get back to MD National Guard. Capitol Police blew it and they should all be fired. I Fuck insurrectionist charges. I think Trump and all of these criminal rioters (refuse to call them protesters ) should be tried for treason against the US govt.
The head of the Capitol police quit immediately. Involved or disgusted?
Involved.
They are making noises about having a round 2 either on the 17th or 19th. He leaves on the 16th. I don’t think that is a coincidence.
Nancy Pelosi demanded his resignation and he gave it. He did not before that offer to voluntarily go.
Involved. Also, only 500 police officers, a quarter of the force, was scheduled to work on a day when they expected a large protest.
better stop Josh Hawley right here right now ugh
Yes. David Brooks, one of my favorite columnists with the New York Times called out Hawley and Cruz today for the true pieces of shit that they are.
I know it is wrong, but I kinda find it humorous how two of the terrorists died. One woman got trampled in the melee, and the flag she was carrying and waiving? Don’t Tread on Me. Oh the irony!
The guy who had a heart attack?
He didn’t bring guns to the insurrection, but he brought his taser. He spotted Tip O’Neill’s portrait and decided to take a souvenir. HE PUT THE TASER BETWEEN HIS LEGS and reached for the painting. That made his legs tense apparently, and the taser went off….. on his NUTS. The contractions from the tasing kept the taser there, continuing to fire into his genitals until he had a heart attack!
LOL I didn’t see it but I love it. To bad he wasn’t holding hands with a bunch of others.
This is hilarious! Karma.
My soldier friend told me that they found feces smeared on the Capital. They literally smeared their shit. What is wrong with these people?!?!?
What kind of person smears their shit on ANYTHING at all!? Rhetorical question.
I think that the answer to that question is that these are not civilized human beings, these are animals.
QAnon followers and proud boys plus.
When a person believes the deep state (lol) the Dems in office and Hollywood celebs run a child porn ring from a pizza pallor basement —-
We have a public education problem.
Limbaugh the druggie tells his fans that Dems will round them up, (Trumpers) and remove them from their homes.
We want their guns.
No we want the automatic rifles out of ur hands that is all. A lot of Dems are gun owners
Not to be smart or trite, but animals don’t behave this way!
They act to protect themselves or their young or to get food.
To compare these people to animals is unfair to animals.
Their are stupid seditious traitors to this country and should be treated as such.
That should have been “They are” . . . I changed my train of thought but not my grammar.
Definitely should be on World’s Dumbest videos LMAO! (Kinda like my ex brother in law who put an electric drill between his thighs JUST FOR A SECOND and the damn thing started turning and he ended up in the hospital with a hole drilled in his pecker LMAO) True story! He’s one of those people that is so intelligent he lacks common sense.
OMG!
Was he, um, functional after that?
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…
um. sorry. Carry on.
The funniest thing I’ve ever heard!!!! LOL!
Links aren’t allowed but I just read a story on The Hill that video surfaced Friday night of Republican Oregon Rep. Mike Nearman pushing a door open as he exited the state Capitol, allowing protesters to enter the building as a legislative session was underway.
In the security footage obtained by The Oregonian/OregonLive, the representative exits through two doors, briefly pushing one open further thereby allowing a protester to enter the premises. A stream of protesters are then seen entering the building before State Police force them out, resulting in a scuffle.
He needs to be removed from office. He was putting lives in danger, the damned idiot. Has he issued an explanation yet?
It’s been a completely crazy two days. I have no idea what’s going to happen, and that’s pretty scary as I usually find myself assured in my intuition. I’m following the social media aspect the closest. Parlor just got shut down by it’s host: Amazon. Trump is vowing to set up his own Avenue of communication.
I’ve never felt more confused. I can’t imagine a way to solve the ignorance except a generation of proper education.
I should probably stop reading all the garbage thoughts people spew onto Reddit and Twitter but it’s fascinating and bizarre and scary! It’s like watching a train wreck!
I am here just reading these comments and am fascinated by both sides. It’s all so crazy. I’m not sure is fascinated is the word I should use but, like you, I cannot look away from the trainwreck.
I’m just soul sick over this. My heart just hurts. They’re all crazed cult members. I have no doubt they intended to kill Congress members.
It does appear to be a cult.
I’m scared. We are so divided, even in families. One of my sisters thinks it was staged violence! Because of what one of her Facebook friends said who went to the rally, that it was peaceful. QAnon is such a dangerous movement/cult/philosophy. And the word Patriot just makes me cringe now. If you pray, pray for our incoming administration. You didn’t vote for him? So what. Care about the future of this country.
A former friend I went to high school with was there, and posted pictures of him and other protesters eating at food trucks that were close to the protest. His caption was “Sure looks violent huh?” He is so removed from legitimate news sources that he can’t acknowledge people are dead and law enforcement officers are injured. Deleted that person immediately.
The terrorists are not really independent thinkers. They don’t vet news. They failed to develop higher level thinking skills. They get their facts from ONE MAN and the news agencies who kowtow to him.
Too many people believe that Facebook is a legitimate news source. Mark Zuckerberg has some soul-searching to do.
How any rational person can believe in QAnon is beyond my understanding.
Based on stealing, buying children for Celebs with Democrats that are in office <<~ that’s it very briefly!
They believe they are saving children. smh
What rational person makes sense out of this?
BTW a stay at home mom is credited w starting QAnon. read her bio

Oh, and this is the anniversary of the premiere of the first season of the Apprentice.
Now that all of you are sleeping and probably won’t see this, I really like Melania Trump. She’s great at her job and she is getting PAID. And she has a face that literally SCREAMS “I AM BEING HELD HOSTAGE AGAINST MY WILL IN NORTHERN KOREA AND ALL I DID WAS MOCK HIS LIMP DICK” I love how she pushes his hand away and I think I am must be the only person in the world who understood her jacket. It wasn’t the children or whatever she was being forced to go to. It was a statement to her husband. That’s just my opinion. I CAN NOT WAIT For HER BOOK. I will buy it in hard back.
She’s a birther too. She spouted off that shit right along with her husband.
I think she has ties to Putin.
Trump is Putin’s asset. Melania is his handler. (Her father was KGB at one point.)
Erica, I once thought as TT also. She is in this completely as a partner to Trump. Have you seen the massive interior WH work that has been underway for much of 2020? While Americans were dying, losing jobs and in miles long food lines she builds a glass tennis pavilion for the people and does massive WH interior redo.
I hate to disagree with you Tamara but Melanie is as complicit as the rest of the family. She pushed the birther BS and has/had every opportunity to leave. She just seems to want the ‘money’ and fame. Though I’m pretty sure she will be filing for divorce in the not too distant future. Sometimes it seems like she is pushing back against him, but she could have left, First Lady or not.
Oh I’m not absolving Melania of everything. It’s just that she looked utterly miserable like a hostage for the past four years. I don’t think it would have really been possible for her to leave. She tried to stay in NYC with the kid and eventually was forced to move in to the WH.
According to the recordings leaked by her former friend, she simply refused to move to the White House until all the toilets used by those people (the Obamas) had been replaced. That makes her a special kind of racist. I listened to most of the tapes when they were out there before she filed the lawsuits. It is undeniably her voice.
REALLY? She’s the worst first lady in the history of this country. She never did one fucking thing because much like her piece of shit husband she only cares about her self. If she actually was a decent human she could have traveled the country FOR FREE and spread whatever message or cause she wanted without her elderly insane husband. But she chose to hide for four years and didn’t do a fucking thing while her crazy ass passport husband burned this country down. FUCK HER.
Still love you Tamara, but seriously…
I get what you are saying. I think she was trying to raise her son and keep him away from the crazy as much as possible. She totally knew what she was marrying. It was totally a business deal from the beginning. And I doubt she ever expected to be held hostage in the White House and force to decorate and redesign the rose garden. That’s all.
I’d love to know where she is right now.
If she is smart she is hiding somewhere with the kid.
Melania’s only contribution in 4 years… Be Best. ? ?
Let’s not forget that Lindsey Graham called the Georgia Sec. of State and pressured him to throw out millions of legally cast votes. Lindsey was one of the loudest voices pushing the voter fraud lies which he knew were lies. Lindsey owns this. He has blood on his hands
I hate Lindsey Graham and donated to his opponent more than once and was crushed when Lindsey was reelected. That said, the gangs of Trumpsters surrounding him in the airport and screaming threats at him was kind of terrifying. Even when security showed up, they didn’t do anything to stop the people other than shuttle him to safety.
I just thought of something. The terrorists were let in when congress was “deliberating” so everyone was spread out. Where did Lindsey and Rubio go at that time? Seems like the terrorist were not breaching their location. Am I right?
A New York Times reporter stated that Capitol police officers were actually giving directions to Chuck Schumer’s office to a group of rioters. The terrorists knew who their targets were.
That was not cool what they were doing to Lindsey Graham at the airport. I also do not think that people should demonstrate at people’s houses.
Melanie is as amoral as the rest of the creepy Trump family. She is a birther, lied about her education, the languages she is “fluent” in , lied about writing her convention speech, then when she was busted for plagiarism said she did not write her speech after all. Her “be best” project seems to be a series of photo ops whereby she finds someone doing good works then gloms onto them to get credit for their work. She even took credit for the design of her inauguration dress. Instead of giving the designer credit she said that she basically designed it herself. I really don’t give a shit that she is unhappy. Melanie is not a hostage, she is a willing participant and like her husband only cares about herself. IMHO
Again, I’m just saying that I think Melania got in over her head. Everything in your post is true. She has been distancing herself from her husband for years. I feel a bit worried for her. You don’t have to feel the same. I think the last four years of her living hell is punishment enough for her. Your mileage may vary. 🙂
Here is my mileage. I want them to wake up on their first day out of power in the bodies and lives of those they devalue and hate the most. No riches or ability to grift their way out. Having to actually scrape by. That is my fervent wish for not only that family but all of those who support them.
Let’s try to stay in reality.
I think Melanie has dirt on Trump going back to Epstein. But sometimes people, especially greedy people, overestimate their own intelligence/power and underestimate that in others.
She wanted money and prestige and got what she deserves.
Do you think that 5 years ago, she thought he would actually get elected? Most of us didn’t 🙂 Just a thought (in general)
I don’t think she thought there was any chance in hell. And to be honest, I don’t think he really wanted to win and was surprised when he did.
seems FLOTUS agrees with you. She released a statement saying how upset she was about people speaking about her in reference to the riot. Strangely enough I couldn’t find any note of sympathy for the fallen police officer. Oh well I must have just missed it.
well she gave condolences for the cunt that was killed because she was a veteran… So there was that.
And that is when I stop trying to defend her.
It’s really sad. This was her opportunity to prove she has a heart by saying she didn’t approve of how her husband fired up his maniac followers to cause as much harm and destruction as they could, on his behalf. To mourn the loss of lives of domestic terrorists first and name the officers as almost an afterthought is disgusting. Glad she’ll be leaving the WH soon.
Melania Trump was a soft porn model. She probably has ties to either Putin or the Russian mob.
Trump fired people in the Pentagon and replaced them with his loyalists. He also fired white house staff and replaced them with employees from his hotels that are loyal to him. If something happens again, it’s likely to be the White House that is targeted.
It’s not a coincidence that the Pentagon was nonresponsive. I don’t know if he or someone loyal to him hired his loyalists to the Capital PD, but that’s likely.
I watched the video of the terrorists chasing a security guard, only armed with a stick, up stairs. It was frightening. You know that lone man was terrified. Imagine being a black guard being chased by a mob of angry white people. I haven’t watched any other video on the attack. The only other video I watched was of “Elizabeth” who was crying in shock that they maced her. She was in shock! Imagine the delusion you’d have to have to be shocked that you were stopped from preforming an act of war. I’ve watched it more than once, because she’s crying, trying to wipe her face, being comforted by one of her co-conspirators… and it’s funny… but also angering. Ya know what, Elizabeth, if your behind had been any shade of brown, you’d be dead.. so how about you STFU.
Then the theories, crack pot theories, that is was BLM people. What the ? How do people believe this?? Ok. So the Simpsons guy, the one dressed like a viking, he was at BLM. BUT… Qanon sent him to the BLM march. He purposely dressed like that to be noticed. The other 2 Qanon members were a little more low key in their dress, but same thing. They were sent to BLM and photographed… on purpose. I think they believe they could fool more people this way. But no. You are only fooling your own base of delusional.Elizabeths who don’t even understand how war works. You storm our capital, you’ve just committed an act of war against us.
That is how I think Trump and Qanon should be treated, like the war criminals they are.
Did you see how Elizabeth has an onion in the towel in her hand? An onion counteracts tear gas. She planned and prepared to get gassed. She’s a piece of shit.
Couldn’t agree with you more–but she was misinformed. Onions do not alleviate irritation from tear gas.
All I could think about was when the children of Israel wanted a king, God allowed it. When some people of the US wanted a leader who thought like them, who believed in racism, who believed it was ok to hit them and drag them out if they don’t believe like we do. Who believed that others were not good enough to be in this country. God gave them what they wanted. We have a man in office, who had no political experience, has never held an elected office, who didn’t care about making evil/degrading comments about women, who didn’t mind calling for violence, who has filed bankruptcy more times than most of us has even thought about filing and they believed he could lead this country. They wanted a “god” and that is what he is to many Americans. Some people in America still voted for him, preachers encouraged members of their church to vote for this man. Didn’t care that he was a racist, violent man. It is going to take a long time for this country to recover. If you believe in prayer, I suggest you pray because we (USA) need divine intervention because “evil” has prevailed!
Best comment
You are spot on. Excellent perspective.
Sometimes I wonder what happened to him. I live in NY and he wasn’t this person. Or maybe he was but it was well hidden.
Same with Giuliani. He was so helpful after 9/11 when this city was devastated. What in the world happened to change him so much? Is it as simple as absolute power corrupts absolutely?
yes it is, only with social media it is all out there in the open for everyone to see. Corruption once was kept behind closed doors, now they can’t help but to seek the limelight and well, there are still loads of toads in the shadows though
Can you even imagine what Giuliani would have said/done if anyone had threatened NYC when it was HIS CITY!
Read Mary Trump’s book. He has a serious personality disorder (not that we didn’t know it) that was empowered by POWER!
Not that all of this wasn’t evident in his actions, but I am a huge reader and this book really does create insight into how his delusional personality came to be.
Agreed. I read it twice, his niece has explained him very well. He has been this way his entire life and was allowed to be so. My favorite is the mashed potatoes story.
Back in the ’80’s he tried to sue the news papers for daring to print negative news about him. I believe the biggest news paper was The New York Times. One of the news magazine shows did an expose on him at the time 20/20 or 60 Minutes). I’m going off memory here, so forgive me… but for a few months in HS, it was all we could talk about… because even then, there was talk of him having mob connections. A lot of what was pointed to was circumstantial, like his realestate and land developement ties, his taste for prostitites.
He was always this person. Remember when he said he could shot someone on 5th Avenue and get away with it? Remember when he mocked a handicap person while campaigning. My husband was born in Queens and I have lived her for 30 years. He has always been this person and been enabled and coddled for years. People were entertained by him but he was always this person.
What makes me really sad is that one of my best friends is still defending him. She says she didn’t vote for him because of his personality, she voted for him because he’s a great businessman. I want to cry every time I think about it because there are too many people in this country who still believe that.
While I am glad that social media platforms have take him off our air space, now the focus is shifting to silencing Trump vs the Capital siege and why he was silenced.
Might be in the minority, but am concerned in the possibility silencing of many conservatives. Not proud boys, not psycho MAGA criminals – but in general any opposition to the Democratic Party. I’m not saying it’s happening….just hope we as a country don’t go down that road.
As an independent, I want transparency from both sides.
Loved Trump was shut down – should have happed right after election night, however I’m glad his used Twitter daily….we were able to see who he was, a petulant man child with no self control.
My fear, the shut down of social media accounts will incite more discord. Again, not speaking of domestic terrorists who are being booted off – just those with different political philosophy.
I wish they had just immediately removed his tweets – FOR NOW. Twitter news has taken over the conservative news sites. All vestiges of the siege are gone. But I guess his tweets (even those that looked benign) were inciting the crazies. Saying the “great Voice” is a military term to make a Emergency announcement & then his next tweet was about him not being at inauguration. So, I guess the thought was he was saying – hey – I’ll be safely elsewhere and you can attack that day. Ugh. The world has truly gone mad.
They are not silencing conservatives, they are silencing violent rhetoric.
Exactly. They are silencing a group that is trying attempting and insurrection and a coup. I’m fine with them all being silenced by bullets. Twitter is not a right.
Re-read my post, a ‘fear’ of the possibility – I also stated had no problem with silencing violent rhetoric.
I don’t know a single conservative – most friends & family, that were OK with this weeks events. I have always voted both ways & no didn’t vote for Trump.
I don’t want my media, to be scrubbed by difference of opinions – inciting violence is different.
I agree, I’m just bummed the twitter ban has become a huge focus of the news instead of the siege.
Anybody who has ever voted, supported, or defended this disgusting human being should be ashamed of themselves. The burden of chaos and broken reputation of your oh so high and mighty country is on your hands. On your hillbilly, yeee haw, racist, sexist hands. That’s how the rest of the world views you. Your nation will never, ever be seen in the same way. Your people, not all, but TOO many, are broken. How scary it must be for level-headed, kind American citizens to be surrounded by radical idiots. The idiocy is live and well in Canada too. I have several dumb people on my Facebook who spew Trump rhetoric continually. I’ve deleted some, ignored the others. Between the anti-vac and maskers, I can’t deal. I’ve made some bad choices in acquaintances apparently lol. Some are family, ugh. Trump has enchanted many, and that’s scary. I feel like I’m in the right way of thinking, but outnumbered. It messes with your head.
it didn’t start in your country, Putin put Berlusconi in charge 20 years ago in Italy and the country now still is divided in fascists that blame immigrants for everything, and decent people that support a new party that tries to fill government with honest goodwilled persons, but there is so much corruption and so much effort to make them fail that they hardly achieve anything. The country is broken.
It worked better with your dotard unfortunately, and it might have a backlash here in Europe too.
Will it ever end? Yes impeach him and hold that grifters family accountable, they are yet again asking for donations. Unreal sigh
All I know is I’m tired of all the hatred from BOTH sides! I am a firm believer in equal sides of government, but everyone needs to chill out, stop hating and let things play out.
There is no “both sides”. Only one side lost an election, lied about the election being stolen and incited an attempted coup.
Thank you. The whole both sides thing reminds me of Charlottesville. There are not good people on both sides. One side in this case is domestic terrorist thugs who vandalized a sacred building, and attempted to overturn an election and whose behavior led to five deaths. Four of them were their own idiots. One was a cop who was not included in the memo. The other side is people trying to stop the domestic terrorists and return order to the country. Would you say the whoe “both sides” nonsense about the terrorist who flew in to the twin towers? Because this is the same thing.
ITA
ITA
To some extent, I would. I have no idea when and who called for and organized this rally but I cannot believe that all attendees got the insurrection memo (kind of like the policeman who died didn’t get the memo). It isn’t just the commentary on this horrendous event; it’s the general description of all Trump supporters as described above by our friend from the North. I know many trump supporters who are highly educated yankees and damned good people. So I get the whole ‘both sides’ thing. The people actually inciting and participating in the violence can go hang but I just find it hard to believe all in attendance had this plan in mind; I would like to believe a good percentage was horrified to see what unfolded
The domestic terrorist attack on the Capitol was covered on live TV for hours. I watched it all across multiple channels. Everyone there was very gung ho. The only ONE INSTANCE that anyone in the crowd that I saw tried to rein anyone in was when the fucktard piece of shit terrorists Trump cultists assholes were getting very aggressive with a CNN camera crew and ONE GUY stepped in between and calmed the terrorist down.
Anyone who supports Trump is not highly educated or damned good people. They are morons who have been deluded by their cult leader. PeriodT.
So, almost half the country have no education and are not good people. Good to know
Oh it is way more than half. Only 35% the country has a college degree. People with no critical thinking skills who don’t follow politics in this country except on Fox News (If that) and Facebook and conspiracy theories on social media tend to fall for anything. The vast number of those people is what the problem with the country is.
You’re argument that some of those 75 millions idiots have to be smart and decent people is textbook ad populum fallacy.
You saw the same thing I saw. Just among my friends and relatives who support him, you’ll find plenty of morons who are truly delusional. There’s only one of my former co-workers who does have a very extensive education and is a licensed individual with a government job here in Las Vegas. He supports Trump and thinks I’m blind because I don’t believe it was Antifa & BLM folks who rioted last week. He’s now off of my FB page and I’ve told everyone else that, if they support what happened last week they can jump right off of my FB page. To a person, they all believe Trump wasn’t responsible for the riot. They believe it was Antifa and they fully support Trump retaining the presidency by whatever means possible. They’re also quoting Don Jr. now, so that’ll tell you how smart they are.
Wait, wait – not challenging your source…….only 35% Americans college educated?
That’s insane to read. Again not challenging – just gobsmacked.
35% have bachelor’s degrees. It’s more like 40 some odd percent if you include 2 year degrees. But yes.
Wow, just wow.
I’ve clearly been in my own bubble of sorts. Was a federal agent in DC, pursuing my masters at night at GW – my husband left college to enter into the NFL.
He always joked I was the smart one, he a big guy & found a career after football – I just assumed, my bad – that percentage be much higher.
The ringleader of this violent insane circus needs to be arrested ASAP. Yes Donald J Trump should be in a cell today and for the rest of his life. I fear what will happen on Jan 20. My ptsd has been triggered but I refuse to look the other way. I have never been ashamed to be an American until now. Civil war is here and I think I am going to buy a gun to defend myself. I am not ok.
If it happens, it will be on Jan 19th, is my guess. You may be able to buy a gun, but you’ll never find ammo for it. All sold out. Wouldn’t hurt to stock up on water, canned goods, etc in the meantime.
You are exactly right – ammunition is sparce.
I lived in rural Texas on a ranch with my husband for 15+ years. He was an avid gun owner/hunter & always stock piled ammo. We, me included never rode about our property without a loaded rifle – mostly to protect our livestock – bobcats/coyotes/snakes/wild boar/wild turkeys.
Lost 2 dogs & dozens of free ranging chickens and goats.
Damn sure I was pulling out my rifle when I heard my flock go insane.
Imagine going to get eggs from the coop & snakes in each box feasting on eggs.
Hell yeah I shot them.
My rifles & guns are in my gun safe at my neighbor ranchers home since I moved to the city after husbands passing. I do have my pistol, also have a CHL – my sibling recently asked if he can get one of my revolvers & ammo to go with. My family is 100% Democratic. My husbands family 95% Conservative.
I know I’m safe, have the most naughty guard dog ever….plus 3 others.
My neighborhood alone is experiencing many home entries, theft.
You do not need to buy a gun, ESPECIALLY if you don’t know how to use one. It will most likely be taken away from you and used to shoot you.
Superfly. Let’s take a few breaths. Take five deep breaths and concentrate on your breathing.
I doubt the terrorists will be running through our neighborhoods. They are attention seeking. They will go to state and national capitol buildings and protest until they eventually get bored with it. You should be staying in your house for the pandemic anyway. You should have water and canned goods AND A HAND HELD CAN OPENER on hand anyway. The terrorists will move on to their next cult leader eventually.
I get it is a scary world we are living in, but we are going to be fine. Have some wine and find something good to watch on TV. Stop watching the news. Try to relax. And keep talking to us here.
Never buy a gun for self defense … without proper training & teaching.
My young early career, was sent to Glynco, GA for federal law enforcement training…I was 22. Scored high, wanted to be secret service – but was assigned to Internal Affairs for DOJ/INS. Yeah, didn’t last but 3 years – because I was so over, what I saw.
Put me, 5ft 90lbs – give me your badge and gun for SCI clearance breaches.
Just went into private sector, but maintained my proper/legal rights to this day to own a fire arm.
Most proper gun shops … will also teach / shall that your direction.
mom says a sock filled with nickels or a can of peas. Either will get the job done.
*hugs Superfly*
I don’t want to say anything trite here.
We are in it with you. We are not ok. Angry, scared, we are here.
I’m thinking of Mr. Rogers of all people. That meme where he said in times of trouble his mom told him to look for the good people. It seems trite, but it works. There are good people. Sometimes, if I can not see the good people, I just watch animal Youtubes. Can’t go wrong with furbabies.
I’m not referring to both sides as in us normal people. I’m referring to the looters, trespassers, arsonists, angry hateful mobs of people who act like criminals. Did not vote for Trump. Both sides need to stop hating. Far left Dems
need to stop and far right Republicans need to stop. Stop spewing hatred. Stop the criminal activity! It’s insidious. If people want to fight for a cause, great! But no criminal activity!
I took a moment before I replied to this. I have flashes of my children finger pointing and deflecting with, ” She did it toooo!” and having to continuously say, ” Two wrongs do not make a right.”
I want to respond to you with respect.
It would just be nice if people would address this one wrong without excuse or deflection. People stormed our Capitol and tried to ignite a revolution. Their very words. “It’s a revolution”. Maybe it is just that frightening to you, so you are trying to minimize it by deflecting blame to “both sides”. I say to you, with all due respect, the only other side in storming the Capitol bent on revolution, is our Democracy. That’s it. You are either sympathetic to a fascist regime storming our Capitol, timed to stop the vetting of the votes for our next President or you are for American Democracy. It is NOT a political debate now.
????????
I moved from New York City to Tennessee where I was raised to be with an elderly grandparent after I lost my job in September. This nutcase who was all over the internet talking about getting mased and “it’s a revolution” is from the town I am currently in. WTF. WHY. Lmao lord help me.
Thank you
Hi Krista- although I disagree with some parts of what you’re saying (which I won’t get into here), I just really, from the bottom of my heart, want to thank you for expressing what you have to say with such respect. This way of communicating is in my opinion, our only way forward. Hate begets hate, and I appreciate so much that you disagreed without vilifying! I am not a Republican and I voted for Biden, but I honestly believe that it was Hillary’s “basket of deplorables” statement that was part of the beginning of where we are now (although it’s more complicated, obviously). You’re a stand-up person for expressing yourself this way?.
I must have forgotten what “the far left” are doing. Who are these far left people exactly and what have they done?
The “far left” have a problem with violent mobs breaching the U.S. Capitol, at the behest of the president and his cronies, on a mission to hang the Vice President, disrupt the consitutional course of our democracy, desecrate property, and hurt people who serve you and me.
I don’t have a problem with the “far left.” Would you be willing to share yours?
P.S. that question was directed to Gigi. Sorry 🙂
You know, the far left radicals who support things like the BLM, health insurance for everyone, a living wage for everyone, voters rights . . . those radical type things.
Oh I get it now. Yeah, that’s just like threatening to hang the vice president of the United States and showing up with nooses. Breaking into the capitol during the certification in an attempt to stop while bringing a bunch of zipties to tie the congresspeople up with. Just the usual differences of politics.
Yeah, I’m sure that’s it. One is radical left & the other, the ones with the zip ties & nooses, are patriots. Welcome to Trump’s America.
The saddest, most tragic thing about this is that at its foundation — what started this movement — is A PACK OF LIES!
THAT makes Trump responsible for every death, injury, act of vandalism, etc. THE BLAME of it ALL.
He KNOWS that he lost the election FAIR AND SQUARE. He created the “stolen election” to RAISE MONEY for himself! Call e a conspiracy nutjob, I am correct. Just like the WALL, its a con to get a stockpile of cash.
Trump is like a serial killer who ALMOST GOT CAUGHT, but continues to kill BECAUSE THAT IS WHO HE IS. He could not pass up this opportunity to run one more con, one more grift, because that is who he is — a CON MAN and a GRIFTER!
I am not sure which DISGUSTS me and DISMAYS me more — the evil of Trump or the IDIOCY of so many people.
If Trump is impeached, he cannot run for office in the future — AND HE LOSES the lifetime Secret Service protection. I DO NOT want to pay for any SS members to stay at the world’s most luxurious hotels/resorts just because they need to protect Trump’s FAT SQUARE ORANGE ASS!
P.S. The Salt Lake City Trib photographer who was injured is a friend of mine. He is USED to shooting sports and other news events and get out of the way FAST. And he got injured anyway.
Who is reporting that he would lose his Secret Service detail?
He doesn’t actually lose his security detail ever. An amendment was made to the law guaranteeing lifetime security regardless.
Nanette, I always enjoy your comments. You’re such a great writer!
I wonder about people clamoring for relief checks who at the same time are handing over their cash to the grifter–whose basis for claiming election fraud is to pocket their money for himself. They have been lied to for so long, and they deserve better.
I also wonder how many of the people who rioted on Wednesday actually voted.
I just got an email from some California democrat asking for money ($3) to help him get Facebook, Twitter and Parler to crack down on Trump and the idiots on Parler.
Um dude, first of all why would I send money to a California politician? And (d) All of that shit has been handled. WTF?
Sorry for your friend Nanette.
I’m so sorry for what happened to your friend, Nanette.
There is clearly no room in this post for differing opinions. That is exactly what is wrong with all of us (this country). The hate must stop. We have to get to the roots of the problems- not continue to try to ameliorate each other. This country needs a healer/Shaman for a president. The divide is that bad, and the extremism has begotten extremism. The temperature must be lowered. This will not happen with finger pointing. An after action review is absolutely necessary to find out exactly what happened, who was involved and who was responsible (beyond the obvious). And ALL guilty parties must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
This
Nearly half of this country was vulnerable to someone like Trump. There must be a reason. It is not enough to extinguish nearly half the country. We need to figure out what is fundamentally wrong that so many were vulnerable to this evil being. If that had been done in Germany, Hitler would not have been able to happen. We need to stop hating nearly half the country. The real work, the real courage, will come from actually listening deeply.
There is no room on this forum for entertaining supports of domestic terrorists who have attempted to overtake the county. I could not give a shit what sort of mental issues they have that made the susceptible to a mad man who is encouraging domestic terrorist to attempt a coup and make him a dictator. That is not how this country works. What is wrong is that they lack education and rational thinking. We will need to figure out how we got here, later. IMO it is the shitty educational system in this country. But that’s not important right now.
Currently, we need to protect the citizens of this country from domestic terrorists. We don’t have time to sit down and figure out why they became terrorists. Right now that doesn’t matter. Right now we have to deal with protecting the constitution and protecting out democracy.
I completely agree with that- much of my statement related to that. I’m just saying that the deepening political tribalism that has become so deeply personal in this country must eventually be dealt with. I also just said that ALL responsible for the horror show that occurred (including Trump, his family, Capitol Police, EVERYBODY who had any part of that) needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Perhaps that was not clear? I said that is what must happen right now.
But, if we do not eventually figure out what lead to this – to nearly half of this country feeling like this evil person was their best option (and I believe education is part of it, but it’s much more complex than most of us can fathom), the pendulum will only continue to swing wildly, and we will continue to deepen our hatred for each other, with disastrous results. People have “fire in their eyes” right now- even here. Maybe it’s not the “moment” people want to hear about figuring out how we got here, but I believe that is exactly what is necessary. Perhaps it’s unavoidable at this moment. Hatred of “the other” has been building for years in this country. I was trying to make a statement about where we need to get to after the temperature cools down, or we risk exactly what we’ve just suffered in these last four years. We have to kill the cancer, but first it must be “located”.
CNN is reporting that Pence HAS NOT RULED OUT the 25th amendment …IF HE GETS ANY WORSE. Really? How much worse does it have to get?
They MAGAs were basically there to assassinate Pence..is he hoping next time they succeed? What’s wrong with him.
Also I just read an article where the MAGAs are planning to storm the inauguration and stated this time they won’t show any mercy. The FBI should be tracking all of these nut jobs down and lock them up.
ALL THE NATIONAL GUARDS all surrounding states AND FBI AND SECRET SERVICE will be at the inauguration. Biden will be in control of all of those things and several people on the news shows say that it is all handled.
IN other news, All congresspeople traveling by air will have air marshals with them during the flight and more security will be provided for all of them to defend them from terrorists in the airport. Both Mitt Romney and Lindsey Graham have been mercilessly harrassed by the terrorists.
There was a special legislative session at my state’s capital today. Of course some white guys of various ages (mostly over 40) showed up in a variety of camo and black clothing. Most were carrying AK-47s. They said they were there to “peacefully protest, not to cause trouble.” One man also was carrying zip ties. He told a reporter “just in case.” Who the fuck walks around with an automatic rifle and zip ties thinks they are being a peaceful person. These people are fucking crazy and if they actually respected police officers they would not do this stupid stuff.
Everyone is very fired up right now. The entire country needs to look at the big picture. He is leaving. Biden will calm people down by not being full of hate. Hate incites violence and ever since Trump was debating and name calling it should have been a clue. For those who think I support this weeks violence, you are wrong. Our media talking heads need to report the facts and not lower themselves to the name calling level. This is what I mean by both sides. My relatives were killed by Hitler, I’ve been dealing with racism my entire life so until we know everyone’s backstory, we should be kinder to each other. We are entitled to our way of expressing ourselves without attacking each other or we are no better than the terrorists who destroyed the capitol. If nothing else comes from this, all the government buildings in DC need to seriously figure out how to protect our politicians.
Gigi- I agree and this is exactly the point I also attempting to make earlier. All extremism and hate is terrifying, and will lead to more of the same. The temperature needs to come down (while at the same time, we need to immediately deal with ALL people and “elements” that created this, including, for now, shutting the mechanisms that allow the continued violent rhetoric).
Everyone who breached the Capitol and/or conspired to do so must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. But then, once Biden takes office (it can’t happen soon enough) we have to TRY to rise above all the hatred of “the other” in this country, or we’re done. I find myself wondering (even before this happened) if it’s not already too late- if the divide and hatred is too deep to heal. I try to choose to believe (on my better days) that we can rise above and unite the country (at least to the point where we stop hating people because they have different political beliefs, which is already happening to a frightening extent).
One of the smartest and most hopeful things that Biden has said was that “we need to reach out to “them”, and figure out what drove nearly half of this country to vote for “the other” (I’m paraphrasing badly- this was his exact message but not his exact words). He wisely knows that the more isolated, hated and “deplorable” any group of people feel (rightly or wrongly), the more crazy and violent they might become.
I was raised in a way that was very different from other children in the sixties in a segregated city. My father taught history in what we used to call the “inner city”. As a white man of his generation (and the segregated times we lived in), my dad had the courage to attend the 1963 March on Washington (I have some vague memories of it- he took me along). He also, every Christmas, invited all of his colleagues to our home for a holiday meal- many of whom were Black. Many of the neighbors (this was a blue collar, white, row house neighborhood) hated our family because of this- some of the kids used to taunt me, and say to me “your daddy is a “n-lover”. He was beaten up. I could go on and on, but I won’t. My father was an incredible man for his times. Despite all the hate, we were always taught that the way to change people is always going to be by getting to know them, not “looking down” on them, building trust, and by understanding who they are and what brought them to that place. And communicating, over time. My parents weren’t perfect, God knows, but the core value of always, always realizing that we are ALL human beings, and trying to reach across the aisle and understand those with whom we disagree the most, is deeply rooted in me.
I will go to my death bed believing that doing the hard work of reaching out is what true courage really is.
I am as shaken, horrified, crying, angered- all of it- as anybody is by Wednesday’s events. But I will never be “happy” and find it “humorous” at the way some of the terrorists died (or any of the other vicious vitriol that I’ve read here and elsewhere).
It seems these days that if you even SPEAK of trying to reach across the aisle (as a few have here), you are vilified, and it’s assumed that you are in the “enemy camp”. Well, fuck that.
I do not believe that the long way out of this mess is in the vilification of nearly half the country. That does not make me “one of them”. It makes me a pragmatist, who wants to solve a problem and at least attempt to be a small part of the reunification of our country (and not just be a drama queen and join in the rest of the “fire and fury” rhetoric on SM sites.) I believe that is exactly what got us here in the first place. And I pray that Biden meant what he said about the pressing need to reach out across the aisle and figure out why so many feel as they do (because I will be right there with him, also trying to get to the root, in whatever ways I can).
Oh for god’s sake Tamara, put Kat and Gigi in the permanent WLS. They just don’t get IT! This “both sides” kumbaya bullshit has to stop. One side is hopelessly wrong and lost for generations. The other side has the truth.
I am not Gigi (and she is not me). I NEVER said that the sedition was EQUAL to what occurred in the BLM protests. Please read actual words.
All that I have been trying to convey is that SOMETHING made nearly half our country VULNERABLE to a dangerous man. And if we don’t try to figure it out so that this dangerous force can be quelled, we are fools. Labeling the dark forces as wrong (which they are) and looking down our collective noses only further inflames this. Why can’t people see this! Biden obviously did.
We have to reach out, educate (as others have said), whatever it takes. Do you really think they’re just going to go away because you’ve labeled them “wrong”? Looking at the dead-eyed Neanderthals pillaging our Capitol engendered hate it me too. But we all have to look at the larger picture. Groups that are isolated and despised become dangerous and vulnerable to Hitler-like people. Have you EVER really studied history? You might want to look into it. Yes- ask TT to put me in WLS (cancel what I’m saying so your delicate eyes don’t need to see anything that doesn’t fit your agenda). That will surely solve our nation’s problems.
Oh, by the way- if you had bothered to actually read MY words (instead of stereotyping me immediately and lumping me in with another person- which is another phenomenon happening in our country that is a huge part of what lead to this) – you would see that I said over and over that they need to be PUNISHED to the fullest extent of the law (all involved in Wedenesday). But we cannot “punish” nearly half the country because you don’t like their views. We have to figure this out or it could happen again.
I agree with you to a certain degree, Kat. I wish that both sides of our legislature could come together and work together for the betterment of the country. The biggest issue is that republicans always think that democrats should agree with them on how to handle things, even when what the republicans want to do is give breaks to their rich donors and take away from the rest of the population. Their empty words that it’s time to work together didn’t match their actions last Wednesday when so many of them, after all the turmoil that took place, still wanted to overturn the election. History has already repeated itself because Trump is about as close to Hitler as this country has ever gotten. The people he appeals to, no matter how kindly President-Elect Biden treats them, are too far gone to expect any significant change for the better. I fear for our country because of them and I fear for the children that they’re raising because it will continue, generation after generation if we can’t figure out how to change it. I just don’t see that happening any time soon.
I do see your points, Terri, I really do. I guess (as you saw in my long diatribe) I believe so deeply in trying to respect people and that getting to the “roots” of things is how to begin to solve problems. But I hear what you’re saying and will “meditate” on that tonight. And thank you for not being a hater and trying to “cancel” me- expressing even slight differences can get lonely sometimes ?.
100% Kat
Until people renounce their vote for the racist, criminal, and treasonous Trump, there is no rising above, no uniting, no common ground. It’s not about a political belief.
Donald Trump was willing to allow death and destruction so that he could retain the Presidency. He doesn’t care about Americans only power. As the Corona virus spreads unmitigated he’s still claiming it’s not that bad and is being over blown. The people are dying by the thousands every day, economy is in the $hitter & he’s having a meltdown because he lost the election.. He continues to lie about the election results and members of the GOP like Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley echo it and it gets amplified by Conservative Media like Fox, OANN and Newsmax, Rush & QAnon..They all know there was no fraud, no proof of fraud that would change the results of the election. Cruz and Hawley want to be the next Trump, the smoother, more educated and intelligent Trump. In their efforts to prop up the Trump lies they went on Conservative media, blogs wrote opinion pieces insisting there was fraud. They went to court 60 times and lost every time because they have no proof and yet they keep the lie going. They want to keep the base riled up so they’ll continue sending money but it went too far. They radicalized their supporters. Trump told them to go to the Capitol to stop the count. They followed his orders. After they broke into the peoples house and began destroying things and overrunning the Capitol police the National Guard was call but Trump refused to deploy them as the VP and Congress were hunkered down at a unknown location in fear for their lives. It took more than an hour of back and forth calls from Larry Hogan the Gov of MD and House Maj Leader Steny Hoyer before they could get help. Where was Trump? Was he really willing to let his mob of angry supporters do harm to the Reps and Senators? I believe he would do anything to retain power. He needs to be impeached even if it’s after the 20th of Jan.
Meanwhile, Trump’s botched oversight of the pandemic is the cause of nearly 400K dead Americans. He needs to answer for that too. He is the reason there are so many deaths. He defied the scientists and doctors. He told his cult that masks were a violation of their rights. He has more blood on his hands than a war time president.
Our hospitals are increasingly unable to care for ANY more patients, covid or car crash. Our health care professionals are working around the clock for days at a time. There is not place to put new patients. And once again, makeshift morgues are being set up all over the country, particularly in California. All those people who just had to go home for Thanksgiving and Christmas have caused another major wave of outbreaks.
PLEASE. Stay home. Wear a mask if you must go out. Order things online when possible.
And we need more vaccines!
I guess your site kind of crashed the first time I tried to post this but you are back now!
I keep thinking about how all the rioters were unmasked and so close together and now flying back home to spread whatever they may have picked up in DC. I expect another rise in cases for those areas.
Also I have odd thoughts about since a lot of those that support the person in the WH don’t wear masks or distance from people maybe there will be less of them in the future.
The New York Times
BREAKING NEWS
Apple removed Parler from its App Store for not addressing threats of violence, joining Google in cutting off the app that has drawn conservatives.
It seems the harbors for the terrorists are becoming slim.
One of my Dallas friends was there. She said the only ones doing all the rioting were ANTIFA. She said there were 90 yr olds and strollers with babies there. She tried to put the truth on Facebook. Her business page is now closed by them for 30 days. ???? I don’t know what to believe!!!! I have friends on both sides of the political spectrum and I will still care for ALL. I never comment on inflammatory posts on FB. I am praying for our country.
I would like to see a photo of a baby in a stroller at this protest. You would have to be a fucking idiot to put your baby in an environment where violence is likely.

As a retired teacher, It hurts my heart that you are allowed to teach children. Even if you are a parapro, which I assume because you seem to lack education. So you have friend who wanted to hang the Vice President of the United States and who rushed the capitol and smashed a cop’s head in a door and who thought it was cute to terrorize congressional members while they were doing their jobs?
That makes you either mentally retarded or a total cunt. Please return to Facebook .
Was wasn’t to me right? I don’t want to actually see mothers with their babies there. I stand firm that you have to have a screw loose in your head to bring a child anywhere within 100 miles to a possibly violent area.
TX Teacher says she has friends on both sides of politics and cares for them all. Okay, whatever that means. Like many people who did not vote for Trump I also can not understand how some of my educated relatives still voted for him a second time. The best I can figure when talking to them is that they are staunch Republicans and could only vote for the Republican candidate even though they didn’t like Trump’s personality or some of his actions. To me that is a sign something is very wrong with the Republican party to continue to back a terrible president like Trump. Even though some Republican politicians have now denounced Trump, it is too little, too late and meaningless.
I would say it means that Tx Teacher has republican and democratic friends and does not let politics get in the way of caring for them; so what’s the answer here? Disown my father for being a republican? Cut of my best friend of 40 years because her husband voted for Trump? I think it’s this ‘attitude’ Gigi and Kat are referencing; it feels to me like the rhetoric has gone from condemning the people who acted as they did at the Capitol, terrorists now encompasses the other almost 1/2 the country who voted for Trump. And that vilification of your fellow citizens who have done nothing wrong but to have a different political belief system is part of the problem no matter where your beliefs lie.
Well-publicized among Germans, already before Hitler came to power and during a period when he still depended on their consent rather than coercion, were the many actual deeds of butchery…. Some day the same Germans, now cheering Hitler’s strut into Paris, will say to their American friends and to their brave German anti-Nazi friends: “We did not know what went on, we did not know” and when that day of know-nothing comes, there will be laughter in hell.2

Thank you, CrazyPugMom. This is ripping us apart, and if we allow it to, will cause us to cannibalize and dehumanize each other. I just cannot buy into that. The fever just keeps rising higher and higher and before we know it, we will all implode. That’s what this feels like- like lifelong friends, children and parents- people are turning on each other and going mad. It feels like the beginning of the end of our democracy, of our basic humanity. We need leadership- cooler heads must begin to prevail (while holding those responsible accountable).
While you were… sitting in your single wide with no access to television, the rest of us watched it all go down. No strollers, no 90 year olds just a bunch of piece of shit people, many from Texas, who arrived with nooses, gallows, zipties and anger who wanted to hang the vice president and hogtie a few other congresspeople. So please email me the name and photo of your Dallas friend. I am sure there is a reward out there for them somewhere,.
I really hope you are a parody account and not a real teacher.
It can be really confusing, especially when your friends and family are involved.
You may not realize that antifa is not an organization. It’s a movement of people who are anti-fascist. Fascism is bad.
Facebook is not a good source of news. You can do your own primary research such as court filings (as TT does for us so well!), arrest reports, and other documents on the internet. It might make you feel better–or it might not.
One thing I fear it will not do is change your friend’s mind.
Do you have a way of knowing for sure that she was actually present at the riot? What was her motivation, did she say?
Antifa was not there. You can see in the videos they are Trumpers. The FBI. Said antifa was not involved. There is tons of video out there showing the terrorists, waving their Trump flags and their confederate flags. They were waving confederate flags in the Capitol, that made me sad, angry, and nauseated.
1. Antifa is not a formal organization. It is a made up boogy man group by Trump. It is a shortened term for anti-Facists. You know who used to be anti-Facist? The entire Allied Powers during World War II. You know, THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!
We were against facists. You know, like Adolf Hitler. So if you are against “antifa” you are for people like Hitler.
She didn’t “try to put the truth” because what she says is a lie. If she saw strollers, then she was miles away at the National Zoo or something. The footage we saw were either from journalists or the seditionist Trumpers themselves because they TOOK SELFIES. They also left DNA when they SHIT in the hallways and SMEARED THEIR OWN FECES IN OUR MOST SACRED SPACE AS A COUNTRY.
I didn’t even see Anarchist symbols (who are the ones who followed BLM movement and used them as a cover to smash and loot this summer. I say this as someone whose workplace suffered a lot of economic damage because of that. Guess what? All footage was white 20 somethings wearing black, not the same people we saw marching for civil rights earlier. These white boys who probably live in their parents basement want to see capitalism destroyed, and they smash up Main St. instead of Wall St. because they are a bunch of pussies. So they’d never fly to DC for this bullshit.
One of the scariest things I’ve seen is the mob chanting “Hang Mike Pence! Hang Mike Pence!” over and over. After his unflinching devotion to Trump for years.
I despise Mike Pence, but I shudder to think what could have happened without the protection of the GOOD cops doing their jobs. It took a PERSONAL act from Trump to get Pence to finally see the REAL Donald Trump!
Yeah, I am not a fan of VP Pence, but I would never say publicly or privately that he should die. All these publicly chanting for the death of the current VP are fucking psychos. He needs to somehow keep this ship afloat, and then retire and not say anything.
What I’ve never understood is how anyone remains loyal to Trump. Over and over again they’ve watched as he’s decided someone isn’t loyal anymore so he stabs them in the back. Why is anyone foolish enough to think it won’t happen to them?
They didn’t build those gallows for show.
and they were seeking out Nancy Pelosi too.
Grassley should be shitting his pants too.
Y’all I am just starting the new episode of the new season of The Circus. If you have Showtime, I highly recommend this show. This episode is an hour instead of the usual 30 minutes. I have a huge crush on Mark McKinnon. The show is a bit different in 2021 due to COVID. Usually the four journalists all meet in some city to eat at great places and chat. I hope we can get back to starting with food porn soon.
This year they start in different cities in Georgia for the senatorial elections. They interview Trump people who are convinced that the elections are fixed. It’s crazy already. Off to watch.
Oh it looks like it’s on HULU too if you have that.
They didn’t build those gallows for show.
and they were seeking out Nancy Pelosi too.
Grassley should be shitting his pants too.
Footage of the FEDS picking up terrorists at the airport. One woman says she has three, no four.. minor children with her. Well, that should get her a CPS investigation too. Who takes kids to a terrorist attack?
https://www.tmz.com/2021/01/11/trump-rioters-no-fly-airport-arrests-capitol-siege/
My favorite No Fly video is the guy who sounds like he’s near tears b/c they are calling him a terrorist, that they are ruining his life. A toddler temper tantrum in the middle of the airport.
All I could think of when that one female terrorist was crying that they were hurting her was all the images of the party of Law and Order smashing a cop in a door. Beating another one while he appeared to be unconscious and face down on the asphalt, and HEAVE HOing their terrorist asses against a line of cops.
She’s being hurt? STFU. AND GDIAF.
One guy actually yelled something like “YOU ARE TREATING ME LIKE I’M BLACK!”
I’m actually looking through the pictures to see if I recognize anyone. Yes, I will snitch.
That was exactly my reaction to that whiner. I hadn’t seen the video of that mob of domestic terrorists beating that poor police officer nearly to death until this morning. I want every one of those freaks to pay the highest price possible for what they did. Their tears mean nothing to be.
Totally agree.
Supposedly the MAGAts have plans to attack all fifty state capitols and the US Capitol again starting this weekend and going though inauguration day. Also there are numerous death threats against Biden and Harris.
Meanwhile, COVID vaccines are in chaos because Pence and the “task force” haven’t had any leadership for days and no plan was in place nationally for vaccine distribution. Some vaccines are going bad before anyone can get them.
I say just start giving them to whoever the fuck shows up. They are doing that in some places already. There is no national leadership on distribution. I’m not sure why FEMA is not in charge of this.
They are doing that in Nevada as they have pledged to not waste any vaccines. We are having trouble planning because we do not know until the week before how many vaccines we will get the next week. Biden can’t take over soon enough.
I’m reading that Biden’s team has inherited a mess, as of course we knew would happen – the lack of sharing information and the fact that there was no real plan in place for distribution. They’re struggling with all of that, plus with some disagreements already within the new transition team. Biden has expressed frustration with Zients and Quillian- basically that the new team is “underperforming”. There also appears to be some division within Biden’s transition team over his decision to keep Perna (the current COO of Operation Warp Speed) in place- so there is some discord brewing within the new transition team itself (which will hopefully settle down). There is also some tension because Zients (head of the new team) does not have a public health background, so some members are grumbling about that. Mostly, Biden’s team is just having a hell of a time working its way through the hornet’s nest of a mess left to them by Trump’s team, and, as we know would happen, there is very little cooperation. None of this is surprising, but at this point, Biden is very concerned about not being able to keep the promise of 100 million vaccines in 100 days and is expressing frustration with his team.
I believe, because to do otherwise would just be too depressing now, that these are inevitable growing pains and they will sort things out quickly. What I like is that there is talk of a lot more federal help (FEMA, etc.). Biden appears to be in favor of a much more massive release of the vaccine than the current plan calls for. That said, some members of his team are rightfully concerned that if all the first doses are given out, there could easily not be enough left for everyone to get their second doses in enough time to be effective (and there is ambiguity about how long it’s ok to wait between doses- they really don’t seem to know). Then there’s the uncertainly about the new variant that’s already here (or more that could pop up).
Regardless of all this, I still feel much better that Biden and a team of people with actual experience in governance will soon be in charge. If I ever hear again, in any election cycle, large or small, that we want “outsiders” with no political experience because they will bring “fresh ideas”, I think I will implode ?.
From the Guardian….
As they prepare for protests beginning this Sunday, disillusioned Donald Trump supporters will be drawn into even more extreme rightwing groups and could once again bring violence to rallies scheduled around Joe Biden’s inauguration, experts warn.
The move is likely to be exacerbated by the shuttering of the rightwing social media website Parler and the closure of prominent conservative and rightwing accounts on Twitter – including that of Trump himself – on the grounds of inciting violence.
As fissures in the Trump movement widen in the wake of the deadly attack on the Capitol in Washington DC last week, neo-Nazi “accelerationists” are now openly plotting to draw hardcore Trumpists into their orbit.
Capitol attackers have long threatened violence in rural American west

Reports have detailed FBI warnings about possible violence at state capitols and in Washington in the run-up to Biden’s 20 January inauguration which will now take place amid increases in security and under the watchful eyes of thousands of national guard troops.
ABC News reported an FBI bulletin has warned of armed protests “at all 50 state capitols”. The outlet said it had obtained an internal bulletin that detailed calls for the “storming” of state, local and federal courthouses and buildings.
There is a growing sense of paranoia among many rightwing activists amid arrests of scores of members of the pro-Trump mob that rampaged through the Capitol in a sustained assault that cost five lives.
On Monday news spread quickly in remaining far-right media channels that a social media user was claiming to have obtained all the publicly posted data that had ever been added to Parler, including material that users had deleted. Fears about the public release of materials users had posted falling into the hands of antifascist activists or law enforcement were posted on other channels, and other far-right friendly websites like 4chan.
Meanwhile, ex-members of the Parler service formed ad hoc groups on other platforms with lax or non-existent moderation. On Telegram, a “Parler Lifeboat” group had over 15,000 members by Monday morning.
Many Trump supporters continued to express a desire for violent reprisals on those they saw as the president’s adversaries. On Monday morning, one wrote on Telegram that the Democratic House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, “presents a clear and present danger to the safety of the nation. She is guilty of treason and should be removed from power immediately, by any means necessary.”
In the Parler Lifeboat channel, one user promised that Biden’s inauguration, and presidential term, would be watched by “8 million hunters AKA snipers”. Other Telegram users were raising the prospect of protracted, armed struggle against the US government.
“The word I’d use right now is ‘confusion’,” said Alex Newhouse, Research Lead in the Center on Terrorism, Extremism, and Counterterrorism at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies, when asked in a telephone conversation about the current mood on the far right.
“It’s definitely very fragmented right now,” he said of rightwing infighting.
Like many other experts, Newhouse worried about where the disillusionment of Trump supporters might lead them.
“There are already some signs that [neo-Nazi] accelerationist groups are trying to peel off militant Trumpers,” he said, referring to a movement which eschews any engagement with the political process, in favor of terroristic acts which will accelerate what they see as the inevitable decline of decadent liberal democracies.
Newhouse’s claims were borne out by the propaganda being pushed by accelerationist neo-Nazis on Telegram and other communications channels on Thursday and Friday. Various channels urged their followers to leverage Trump’s concession, the online crackdown, and Trump’s ejection from Twitter as opportunities to recruit angry Trumpists who had lost faith in the political process.
One neo-Nazi channel, which has thousands of subscribers, posted, “Every day the internet gets shut down further and further, every day the trap closes around us … All across the west nationalist networks are growing, find your tribe.”
The 17 January date is one focus of protest organizing by Trumpists, with plans for armed protests at state capitols around the country. In the Parler Lifeboat channel on Monday, one Trump supporter responded to a post on the Gateway Pundit site urging people to stay away from the rallies with defiance, writing, “I urge you all to take up arms and show up.”
A subsequent “Million Militia March” planned for inauguration day in Washington DC – which will come at the tail end of three days of protest in the capital, was being pointed to by other accelerationist channels as an opportunity for escalating tension and violence far and wide, while law enforcement were preoccupied with events in Washington DC.
One channel posted an advertisement for a “Million Militia March” scheduled for 20 January in the capital, with the caption: “The Trumpists will be keeping DC and the military busy on the 20th as you can see.”
Asked in a telephone conversation about such opportunism from extremist groups, Heidi Beirich, co-founder of the Global Project against Hate and Extremism, said of the Capitol fracas that “the closest analogy is what happened in Charlottesville,” referring to the Unite the Right Rally in August 2017.
That event, she said, was similar to the Capitol protest in bringing together members of militia groups, white nationalist organizations, groups such as the Proud Boys, and far-right social media personalities.
“Extremism began to be expressed in different ways,” including in the significant growth of accelerationist groups such as Atomwaffen Division and The Base, she said.
Apart from more organized groups, Beirich is also concerned about embittered lone actors.
“I don’t want to be an alarmist,” Beirich said, “but I worry about a mass casualty event at the inauguration.”
In general, Beirich said, whatever Trump’s actions may be in the future, “I don’t see how you can embolden and energize this many people, in what has become an anti-democratic movement, without creating a strong possibility of violence.”
From the NYT…
An ‘unthinkable’ corporate response
Large corporations and their lobbyists usually try to steer clear of messy political fights. Companies prefer to work behind the scenes, giving money to both political parties and quietly influencing tax policy, spending and regulation.
But President Trump’s effort to overturn the result of the presidential election — and the violent attack on Congress by his supporters — has created a dilemma for many companies. A growing number have decided that they are, at least for now, not willing to support members of Congress who backed Trump’s efforts to change the election result and promoted lies about election fraud.
Over the weekend, several large companies — Marriott, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Commerce Bancshares — announced a suspension of donations to members of Congress who voted against election certification. Yesterday, the list expanded to Amazon, AT&T, Comcast, Airbnb, Mastercard, Verizon and Dow, the chemical company. Hallmark has even asked for its money back from two of the senators who opposed certification, Josh Hawley and Roger Marshall.
“Just a few days ago, this would have been unthinkable,” Judd Legum — the author of the Popular Information newsletter, who has done the best recent reporting on corporate donations — told me.
In the Senate, the temporary ban on donations will also affect Rick Scott of Florida, Ted Cruz of Texas and a few other members. In the House, the group includes more than half of the Republican caucus, including its two top leaders, Kevin McCarthy and Steve Scalise.
“We have to create some level of cost,” Thomas Glocer, a board member at Morgan Stanley and Merck, told The Wall Street Journal. “Money is the key way.”
The National Association of Manufacturers, long one of the more conservative business lobbying groups, has been particularly harsh. It called out Republicans who “cheered on” Trump during his “disgusting” effort to overturn the election, which it said had “inflamed violent anger.” The association added: “This is sedition and should be treated as such.”
Still, many large companies have not announced a change. (And other companies, like Goldman Sachs and Google’s parent, have announced a pause on all political donations — a move that seems designed to prevent public criticism while also not angering politicians who supported attempted election fraud.)
McDonald’s and the tobacco company Altria, which are among the top 20 donors to McCarthy, the House Republican leader, have not announced a halt on donations to any Congress members. Neither has Bank of America (a major donor to Scott), although it said it would “review its decision making.”
The well-connected law firm Squire Patton Boggs has also not announced any policy change. It has donated to Paul Gosar, a House member from Arizona who helped promote the Jan. 6 rally that turned violent, tweeting “#FightForTrump” and “The Time Is Now. Hold the Line.”
What’s the bottom line? I asked Andrew Ross Sorkin, the Times columnist who has spent two decades covering corporate leaders, and he said that the announcements amounted to “temporary defensive moves.” The real question was whether, six months from now, the companies would go back to donating to the politicians who supported overturning a presidential election.
For more, read Andrew’s latest column, which argues for a permanent end to corporate political donations.

BREAKING NEWS
Senator Mitch McConnell is said to believe President Trump committed impeachable offenses, and to be pleased Democrats are moving to impeach him.
Tuesday, January 12, 2021 4:32 PM EST
At the same time, Representative Kevin McCarthy, the minority leader and one of Mr. Trump’s most steadfast allies in Congress, has asked other Republicans whether he ought to call on Mr. Trump to resign in the aftermath of last week’s riot at the Capitol, according to three Republican officials briefed on the conversations.
I don’t think Trump has the mental capacity to resign. I think he still believes he can have the election overturned and remain president.
I’m reminded of the old phrase “Pride Comes Before the Fall” & oh how I see this playing out.
Today, YouTube disabled Trump’s Youtube (who knew he had one?) from future uploads and and disabled all comments. This is a permanent ban.
Many, Trump is getting put in ERRYBODIES, WLS! 🙂
Also tonight….

BREAKING NEWS
The Trump administration executed Lisa Montgomery, the only woman on federal death row and the first woman executed by the U.S. in nearly 70 years.
Wednesday, January 13, 2021 1:50 AM EST
Ms. Montgomery, 52, was sentenced to death for murdering a pregnant woman in 2004 and abducting the unborn child, whom she claimed as her own. In pleas to spare her life, Ms. Montgomery’s supporters argued that a history of trauma contributed to the circumstances that led to the crime.
Now that there have been so many days of coverage and so many new details have been revealed, the magnitude of the depth and breadth of the darkness, craziness and sickness of so many has hit me like a sledgehammer. As a person who has thus far purposely stayed away from Twitter and even Facebook (because I think SM can become addicting and can take many people to a nasty, dark place), I guess I had previously (stupidly) thought that this was/is “just a few nut cases that are not representative of all that voted for Trump”. And while I still believe that the darkest and most violent element doesn’t represent all Trump voters, I am admitting (as so much more information has been exposed in the last few days) that we’re not going to be able to overcome this simply with outreach and understanding.
It’s gone too far and it’s too deep and there are SO many more than I thought there were a few days ago. I’m a natural optimist and was raised to see humanity in all people, but seeing things so much more clearly now than in my earlier posts here (not because some people here were mocking me and asking that I be put in WLS so they didn’t have to see someone advocating for trying to understand the other side, but because I am open to the actual information that has been revealed in the last few days through credible sources. One of the marks of an educated person is openness to information and evolving with new information.
Finally seeing the reality of the depth and breadth of the darkness that has captured so many more people than I had originally acknowledged, I feel a sense of despair, hopelessness and sadness that a few days ago I had not (when I was advocating for “reaching out”,and trying to figure out what brought us here. I’m shaken to the core right now, can’t stop crying, because- what the hell do we do??? I thought I had the answer before (my earlier posts) and now that’s shattered. I still hope that, as a nation, we don’t turn on our fellow citizens like rabid dogs. I see many with “blood in their eyes” calling for “an eye for an eye” (beyond Trump, the idiot senators and all violent offenders, who need to be squashes and held accountable, but against anyone- regular, non-violent people who voted for Trump) and that is frightening to someone who does not believe in the “hang em high” philosophy. Where do we go from here?
Hey Kat!
Just thought I’d respond to you.
First, some people NEED to rationalize away things that scare them. That’s all you were doing. I am sad for you that you’te experiencing some disillutionment here. That is how I felt when Trump won the election, despite not having the popular vote. My co-worker and I cried, held each other and walked around trying to stay busy. It all seemed hopeless. How could people vote for a man who bragged about being able to sexually assault women? He was on tape bragging! I felt just as unsafe as many of my hispanic friends did. Ya know what, we did not attack anyone. We were angry when we were told to get over it, called names for being sad that our country voted for a man who ran on a racist and misogynistic platform. Still, we didn’t kill anyone. We got busy supporting each other and protesting in the LEGAL way… and that is what all of us “liberal snowflakes” will continue to do. None of us snowflakes are surprised by the level of depravity Trumpers are willing to sink to. We already understand that racist, sexist, homophobic people are bullies who LOVE to intimidate and degrade people. Still, we don’t take up arms and try to harm.
This is exactly why saying things like “both sides are just as bad” is wrong.
You and I, Kat, WE are on the same side. It’s going to be ok. You are now a “snowflake” and we don’t cause physical harm. We aren’t trying to destroy America.
We want justice. This is NOT about politics to us snowflakes.
It WILL be ok.
It took integrity for you to come here and post. I am so glad you did. *hugs*
Krista- thank you so, so much- your words are such a godsend and a comfort right now. Although I’ve always thought of my politics as a cross between moderate Dem/Independent, and I never voted for Trump, I think, because I believe so deeply in trying to understand all people and not look down my nose on anyone, I had blocked out the worst horrors of who/what Trump really is. Seeing the horrors on Wednesday- at first I was still compartmentalizing “those people” and thinking of them as separate from the rest. But all week, the wall has been cracking, and the reality came “spilling out” between last night and this morning- sort of a horrible “a ha moment”. Your words are such a great comfort, Krista, and hugs right back atcha!!!
I’ll say it again. Until people renounce their vote for the racist, criminal, and treasonous Trump, there is no rising above, no uniting, no common ground.
House voted to impeach. It looks like it may not go to the Senate until after they reconvene — after Georgia’s 2 new senators are sworn in. Things just got very interesting.
Well, that IS good news. Democrats run the senate then. YAY!
Oh, damn, NOW I see the right forum after posting in the wrong one, LOL.
Anyway, just saw someone on Twitter tagging the Andy AND the FBI with evidence that Siggy was one of the mob that stormed the Capitol. Obviously more to come if true.
OH! I totally believe that. She’s a HORRIFIC human.
Not much has brought a smirk or smile to my face lately…….somehow this story did.
I don’t do SM, but do have accounts – her being eviscerated is just what I needed today.
oh dear,impotusx2 made an almost decent speech, can he have his twitter account back? Because that is the only reason he read those lines from the prompter
Listening to it now. I think he is just trying not to get convicted by the senate. But that is going to happen.
um,
not so sure about that, Graham already crawled back up in dotard’s hum behind.
What lawmakers said
The House reconvened on Wednesday afternoon for an hourslong round of speeches from lawmakers. Here’s how some argued for or against impeachment.
“Donald Trump is a living, breathing impeachable offense.” — Representative Hakeem Jeffries, Democrat of New York.
“I will not use process as an excuse. There is no excuse for President Trump’s actions.” — Representative Dan Newhouse, Republican of Washington and one of the 10 in his party who voted to impeach Mr. Trump.
“They may have been hunting for Pence and Pelosi to stage their coup, but every one of us in this room right now could have died.” — Representative Jamie Raskin, Democrat of Maryland.
“Some say the riots were caused by Antifa. There is absolutely no evidence of that. And conservatives should be the first to say so.” — Representative Kevin McCarthy, Republican of California and House minority leader.
“He is capable of starting a civil war.” — Representative Maxine Waters, Democrat of California.
“If we impeached every politician who gave a fiery speech to a group of partisans, this Capitol would be empty.” — Representative Tom McClintock, Republican of California.
“Today we begin the long road to restoration. America has been through a civil war, world wars, a Great Depression, pandemics, McCarthyism, and now a Trumpist, white nationalist insurrection. And yet our democracy endures.” — Representative Adam Schiff, Democrat of California.
“Nearly half the country supports our current president. This takes their voice away.” — Representative Jeff Van Drew, Republican of New Jersey.
“Democrats can say, ‘You know, there needs to be unrest in the streets,’ while there is unrest in the streets. But they’re going to impeach the president for saying peacefully and patriotically, ‘Make your voices heard.’” — Representative Jim Jordan, Republican of Ohio.
“We said if we didn’t remove him, he would do it again. Simply put, we told you so. Richmond out.” — Representative Cedric Richmond, Democrat of Louisiana.
What the second impeachment means
I asked my colleagues Julie Davis, who edits our congressional coverage, and Carl Hulse, a longtime congressional reporter, what stood out to them about this second presidential impeachment.
JULIE: It was really clear that there was a big divide among Republicans. A number of them got up and vigorously defended the president and savaged Democrats for doing this, but most did not actually try to excuse his behavior — they just argued that impeachment wasn’t the answer.
Even the party’s leader in the House, Kevin McCarthy, essentially said the president had done wrong and deserved consequences for what happened. They sensed the political danger themselves for appearing to condone what Trump did. And yet most of them still did not feel that it was politically safe to vote to impeach him. Some of that might have to do with the fact that the president doesn’t have a Twitter feed anymore. It’s easier to speak out against him when you don’t expect a massive hail of presidential tweets coming at you.
What was also striking was that, by a factor of two, you had the largest margin of the president’s own party supporting his removal from office.
There was also so much symbolism today. You had all of this happening in a heavily fortified Capitol crawling with the National Guard, a week after the riot and a week before Biden is sworn in. The bunting was up and the brass had been polished for the inauguration. They’re spiffing up the building in all of the ways you do in anticipation of a new beginning. And yet here they were going about their business with these armed troops there to protect them against the loyal supporters of the departing president.
CARL: The two parties are just so far apart. It just seems like an unbridgeable divide. There was so little common ground even after an event like the riot. It makes me wonder what could possibly ever cause the parties to find common ground again.
One dynamic that really stood out to me today was Republicans being unwilling to abandon Donald Trump, even after he incited an attack on the Capitol. In the House, there’s a big reluctance to let go of Trump. Their voters are Trump voters. House districts are different than the whole states that senators represent. And I don’t think that these House Republicans are necessarily frightened of Trump; I just think they agree with him.
That House Democrats were able to impeach the president in two days also has me wondering if impeachment is going to be a standard thing when one political party is unhappy with the president. There was certainly cause for them to act against the president here. But the precedent has lawmakers I talk to very alarmed.
The scene inside the Capitol
My colleague Emily Cochrane, who was present during last week’s riot, encountered a shocking scene when she arrived at work this morning: the U.S. Capitol, filled with troops. She told me about what she saw.
Since last Wednesday, they have slowly been intensifying security. Fencing has gone up around the Capitol. This morning, the closer you got to the building, the more it seemed as if things had changed overnight. It seemed as if the National Guard presence had doubled.
As I went through security on the House side of the Capitol — a floor below where lawmakers themselves began crossing through magnetometers last night — the first sight I had was of members of the National Guard asleep on the marble floors, some curled around the statues, others tucked behind them. It was surreal.
Someone was saying, “All right, guys — time to get up, time to get up.” Their rifles were laid on the ground and against the wall, some of them rested on top of their bodies as they slept. There was a line of two dozen National Guard members waiting to get breakfast at a self-serve station. In the Capitol Visitor Center, they were sprawled everywhere. This was as close to a militarized Capitol as I could have ever imagined.
Last Wednesday, I was in the House chamber, and heard the rioters trying to get in. I saw guns drawn. I knew there was a breach. But it has only really been in the aftermath, when you step back and see the photos from across the building, that it really hits home how much worse it could have been. It underscored how dangerous last Wednesday was and how dangerous things could still become. They are preparing for the possibility that something might happen again.
I’ll make a new political forum soon. This one is getting really long!
Remarking on the second impeachment, James Corden joked, “I hope Trump supporters don’t suddenly become angry and volatile about this.”
“So much has gone on, I don’t remember what he was impeached for the first time,” he added. “Two impeachments and just like Trump’s sons, the second one is the most embarrassing.”
BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA This cracked me up.
