This is a political post that directly affects this site AND ANYONE WHO COMMENTS HERE. So if you don’t care about politics and how if may affect your life, don’t read it. But you may come to regret it. As this pandemic rolls on, all of us are getting more irritated. It’s annoying, it’s scary, it’s panic inducing for many of us. Others are going on vacations and flying here and there and have 47 of our closest friends over for Christmas. Or going to church in person instead of on line. Some (not all) Trump supporters are basically singing his song. “You can’t make me!” like two year olds. But I digress.
1996 Communications Decency Act is a landmark U.S. legal decision that came to be a few years after the Internet was invented. (Real lawyers stop reading here, I’m just going to break this down real quick without all the backstory). Under that Act, there is a section called 230. I used to sling that term around here a lot when I first started posting. You would not believe the illegal shit people try to say in comments here. Sure there is a lot of defamatory shit about me. But, I control the comments. So I don’t let those through.
The Fate Of Comments On Websites & Message Boards
However, I’ve also told people many times in the early years of this site that if they say defamatory things, or make any other prosecutable statements about others, I AM NOT LIABLE. Furthermore I am required to turn over your information to the requesting authority. Section 230 protects the owners of sites, such as this one that allow comments, from being held accountable for others posting illegal (usually libelous) things in comments. I try to save you from yourselves and 99% of the comments I allow here are fine. Well legally anyway. 🙂 Now imagine if you owned Reddit. And you were liable for everything posted there…
I know, I know shut up Tamara with your Law Degree from Google and that one old people show Paper Chase you watched when you were ten. MY POINT IS, that Trump is tying our $2000 stimulus check to doing away with that law. That would mean if you start commenting about wanting to wack someone in the kneecaps from one of these shows, you AND I could be sued. This is no bueno. This might end comments in blogs and other websites entirely. (Also why TMZ has temporarily stopped comments). The loophole would be to not moderate comments at all. See, if I don’t moderate comments as all it becomes a free for all. Again, you don’t want to see what I see. And I am not talking about all the personal attacks on me or this site that I don’t put through. I’m talking about attacks on the regulars, attacks on the reality show people. There is a lot of litigious behavior every day. And that again is on the commenter not me. Unless Trump gets his way.
TRUMP IS NOT SENDING THE $2000 BECAUSE HE IS TRYING TO SAVE HIS TWITTER ACCOUNT!
I am not making this up! He is butt hurt that Twitter and Facebook are monitoring his comments (JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE) and putting disclaimers on his lies. Trump would have been in at least a Twitter time out or three if not banned by this point. I am not really on Facebook even though I send posts to my account there. So I don’t know what he thinks his issue over there is. Probably his Proud Boys getting banned. Never fear, he has invited them all to DC on January 6th to start a civil war. His broad base is white men without a college education. And most of them dropped out in the eighth grade to milk cows. This is why I feel like we need a poll test just to make sure people who vote know what they are doing. Possible questions could be, “which candidate likes to grab women by the pussy?” “Which candidate has actual experience as vice president?” etc.
Anyway, I do try to moderate comments according to my commenting rules. And I have moderated a few with physical threats mostly toward me, but also towards others occasionally. But Twitter and Facebook would never be able to moderate all the comments. It makes sense now why I was put on time out for a few days for referring to myself as a fag hag. Twitter is running a whole lot of algorithms with no context to sit people out. I’m not sure what Facebook is doing. But it would seem they are preparing anyway. And Trump could still be ejected. Twitter is a private company just like Tamara Tattles Media (okay not just like, lol) and they call the shots.
Oh and Section 230 is not the only thing he wants. He wants a full examination of the election results.
Only 21 one more days until he either tries to hide out in Florida or gets arrested in New York or both.
