One of the twenty somethings on the Below Deck Max and Dax’s excellent adventure episode issued a public apology on Twitter today.
Yahoo Sports reported:
UNLV starting quarterback Max Gilliam issued an apology Monday for eating sushi off of a nude model while appearing on the reality television show “Below Deck.”
Yes, you read that sentence correctly.
Gilliam claims the sushi idea came from the show’s producers.
“I would like to apologize for my poor judgment while on the TV show ‘Below Deck’ and acknowledge that I have made a mistake that I will learn from. While it was not my idea nor any of my friends’ ideas to eat sushi off of a model, I should have exercised better judgment and declined the idea immediately when it was brought up by the producers,” Gilliam said in a message posted to Twitter.
Smellys Fishy To Me
I totally believe half the crap they did was at the request of production. This is after all still a reality show. I was thinking during tonight’s episode that the caviar was not “forgotten” and the thruster worked just fine or Captain Lee would not be just standing there saying it wasn’t working if it were not. And of course the red wine thing was scripted. When reality shows first started we believed everything we saw. Ah those were the days. The longer we keep on churning out this cheap nonsense instead of working on scripted shows, the more produced they become.
Meanwhile, the kids were probably better behaved when the cameras were not on them. And Max really is a really good quarterback. He’s a graduating senior so do be surprised to see him drafted by the NFL. It’s hilarious to me that the guys got backlash for this. Oh how times have changed since the 80s.
I thought it seemed weird because I haven’t seen a naked sushi girl in person since maybe the late 90’s. Only on housewives. I don’t think it’s a thing anymore, so it struck me as odd that twenty somethings would want that. I totally believe that was producer driven and that his agents wouldn’t think that was a god look for him.
It was on Sex and the City too, Samantha of course.
I don’t get it, why would they be viewed as a bad thing or someone apologize for that?
Do you remember the episode Vicki told the sushi girl to put some clothes on, get an education and make something of herself?
If he wants to be drafted by the NFL, they have former FBI agents who scrutinize everything. This is a smart idea regarding anything that might be considered “contoversial”.
*controversial
Who in the world is mad about that? It must be people who are too young to remember when it was a trendy thing for “fancy” people to do at events. And it doesn’t seem all that long ago.
Honestly? I’m not a dinosaur or anything and I’ve always been a germaphobe but the mere thought of eating something that has been laying on someone’s body grosses me out. i know there is something underneath it, but it’s too close for comfort. Plus, I find it degrading for any female to be laying there with food on her. I don’t really like Vicki but she was spot on when she told the girl that. I wondered why they wanted this cuz it’s not something their age group would do and so now we know… reality tv isn’t really real.
I don’t see a problem with this as long as everyone involved consents to what is going on. I’ve seen it with male models too. I agree with the other commenters though, I just thought it was kind of outdated but the 90’s is supposed to be cool again. I suppose professional athletes have to give strip clubs a wide berth now too in the camera phone age. This is all a little PC crazy to me.
I never did this but I did events where attractive women were required, usually in costumes. I went dressed as a gangster moll for some rich guy’s themed party and had to walk in on his arm. In a toga for a Roman orgy theme serving food, stuff like that. It was a fun and easy job and I would have done this too probably if the price was right and I had a stronger bladder.
The kid is a star quarterback in his senior year and has a good chance of being drafted by the NFL. He’s worried that this will hurt his chances.
The very first thing I thought was how long before this kid gets grief for these Actions! Shame on the producers for jeopardizing this kids playing eligibility and (knuckles to the noggin) shame on the kid for not using better judgment at the time. It didn’t personally bother me But just seemed out of the ordinary for a generation who has been drilled about sex and race issues. Somewhat surprised one of the boys girlfriends didn’t speak up. Maybe production enticed with money?
Those were the days! I remember when you said something about shows being scripted, and I thought “Oh no! They couldn’t be!” Yeah. Duh.
I couldn’t help but to notice that the whole game was given away in the reunion show where Kate and Rhylee(Riley?) confronted Ashton and some other dopes. Ashton was on the ropes and being called out for his lack of professionalism. What was his hail Mary offense-is-the-best-defense tactic? He called out Captain Lee and Kate, assuming that neither of them had any real charter boat experience in many years, indicating that the show is much closer to a scripted drama than a documentary. Their responses pretty much conceded the point.
