I’m going to run through the entire Vanderpump Rules situation with you guys because some of you don’t understand the timeline of how all is going down. So, I’m going to try to break it down for you in smaller bites.
On Tuesday December 1st, I was informed of a Zoom conference call between Bravo suits, Evolution (aka production) and Lisa Vanderpump (talent and executive producer). Let’s take a moment here to comprehend that Bravo/NBCUniversal is the network. Those people hire production companies like Evolution in this case to produce a show they have picked up. Evolution works for Bravo/NBCUniversal who is their boss. LVP is basically the talent with an “executive producer” title which basically always her to give input in conversations such as this. The difference in these three levels, particularly with regard to source validity will come into play later in the post.
The purpose of the conversation was to discuss the fate of Vanderpump Rules because the show had been shelved for many months due to Covid-19 and the problems with filming a show that has many scenes where people at least pretend to work in a restaurant. In addition, four previous cast members, Stassi Schroeder, Kristen Doubt, Max Boyens and Brett Caprioni had been fired for racist comments and behaviors.
However, the most important problem was that it had been six months since the last reunion episode. Bravo had not picked up ANYONE’S options for another season because it was unclear when or if SUR would be allowed to fully reopen. Filming in a restaurant during COVID would be virtually impossible even if the restaurant were allowed to open. Three days later on Friday night, Jax and Brittany posted statements, written with help of their attorney that they were not going to be on “the next season.”
Then I Received More Information
Immediately after learning about Jax and Brittany’s statements, I reached out to my source. It was then I was told that the entire cast has been essentially let go. Nobody will be picked up and there was no future for Vanderpump Rules. That is when Tamara Tattles exclusively reported that Vanderpump Rules was cancelled. There are no cast members under contract. Evolution has not been greenlighted for another season. It is FINISH-ED. At that time I went on Instagram to to see what people like the Toms and Lala etc were saying. Ariana and Sandoval are promoting in-person(???) cocktail parties to promote the one year anniversary of their cocktail book. The others had been silent for a week.
At that point I contacted my source again. I asked if they knew where the others were and why they were not commenting. That seemed odd. Then Kate Casey (who I like and follow and have a decent relationship with) Tweeted me “Vanderpump Rules is not cancelled, trust me.” First of all, trust me is a red flag to me. Secondly, I had been aware of the series of events beginning on Tuesday. I replied I am going with my source. She said here source is a producer.
Another Chat With My Source
So when chatting with my source today, I mentioned what Kate Casey had said on Twitter. I did this because Kate lives in LA and has good sources and wondered how she could be so misinformed. I mentioned that her source claims filming would begin “in early spring.” My source outed Kate’s source to me as Bill Langworthy, my source is aware they are friends. I will return to this topic later. But first I need to expand on the facts a bit.
It was unclear to me why they would “fire” Jax first. According to Source, Jax was the highest paid cast member ($60,000 per episode) with the most notoriety. Thus him constantly saying “this is my show.” Therefore, the network (NBCu/Bravo) would have had to make some kind of good faith concession (money) to keep him locked up under a talent deal or lure him with a raise if the show returned. Bravo feels like other networks will have interest in Jax, possibly MTV, etc. Jax has gone six months with no episodes and didn’t want to go another six months. That said, Jax would not be walking away from a seven figure contract. Bravo has moved on. He tried to sell a spinoff with Brittany, and as I previously told you, Bravo was not interested in that.
Why Haven’t The Other SURvers Admitted They Were Released From Their Contracts?
This was my other big question. My source feels like Jax has to have told them and word has gotten around. Especially since I made the announcement already. Source says it usually goes like this…They email and mail a paper copy to the attorney and talent. The talent usually can’t understand the verbiage so it becomes a call, then usually some dialogue with the network. Then they usually write up their Instagram posts. That is what we have to look forward to next week.
