I had a weird conversation with my favorite source recently. The same source that was pretty certain, this would be the last season of Southern Charm. That source said, “Southern Charm has gotten some great feedback from the viewers. It looks like another season is almost certain.” Where is this feedback from? It’s certainly not supported by ratings. The show has not had even one episode with a million viewers. We seem pretty middle of the road about the season. So that was a really odd thing to hear. Let’s see what this Southern Charm recap looks like. I believe it is the first episode after one of their many COVID shutdowns. And as for the random Tamara tidbits. I am trying to make bone broth from a ham hock that has been in the freezer for TWO YEARS. AMIGONNADIE?
Covid Really Never Came To Charleston?
Okay, let’s wrangle the dog back in the house and get this Southern Charm recap done. So we’ve fast forwarded to June after another extensive downtime on filming this season. It literally started at the end of 2019 and then Cameron and the other girls quit the show. This has been the normal Haymaker clusterfuck. But this time it is not entirely Haymakers fault. It looks like Pringle finally got his kids. I would NOT have put them on a plane in June.
Patricia, Whitney and Michael the Butler all quarantined together until June. That ham hock might be smelling a bit funky now. But I’m boiling it for hours so, probably not going to die, right? Michael colored Patricia’s hair in quarantine. Because, of course. Craig met a new girl in quarantine. She came to quarantine with Craig. The guys are all in denial about Covid. IN JUNE. Especially, Craig and Austen and Shep. Craig seems clueless. Shep is suffering from Covid fatigue. He’s just loosing up all the rules because he’s over it.
Madison Is Ready To Get With Pringle
Austen talks to his family about the delay in his beer distribution due to Covid. And talks about Madison. Charleston went straight back to super spreading in bars. Apparently, they think it is only in the big cities. Madison is trying to blame her interest on Pringle on the quarantine. Austen hung out with Craig the whole time. His sister and his mother don’t seem to think they are compatible. Madison is planning a birthday party for Austen on a private island. Madison’s mother think Austen is holding her back.
Pringle has the boys for summer vacation. He seems like a really good dad. Madison calls to invite Pringle to Austen’s birthday party. I could watch an entire show of Danni painting and Craig making pillows. These are the sort of soothing things I need right now. But instead, we are going to have to address the monkey emoji in the room with Kathryn. I sort of feel like that Kathryn is just an idiot. She calls her kids little monkeys all the time, which is rather common in the south and I’ve seen her use that emoji a lot. But perhaps there was more to it? Danni looks really thin and stressed.
The Calhoun Statue
Ah the statue crisis. Is that what caused the issue between Kathryn and the black female radio host? I really don’t pay these people much attention anymore. I barely even know this story. I know that Georgia wants to rename Grady Hospital and Fort Bragg and I feel like if you polled a hundred people on the street no one would have any reference point for Grady or Bragg. Calhoun is slightly more known. But really, we are in a pandemic. And a social justice movement. If we could perhaps stop doing things that would cause a riot in a pandemic, that would be just swell.
Even Danni has no idea that there is a Calhoun statue in Marion Park. Which is a big beautiful park with all sorts of statues and people picnic there and throw frisbees and such. Leva explains that Calhoun was vice president a couple of times and “his dying wish” was to keep slavery. Danni says she had no knowledge of Calhoun really. Because no one does. Apparently, except for Leva who invites Danni to a conference to learn more. Really? I think we have more pressing issues right now like police murdering black people than statues who no one even pays attention to unless someone makes it a thing. Tearing down historical monuments and renaming bases and hospitals are for me, MUCH further down the list. And more of a “never forget” for me kind of like the holocaust museums.
Leva Schools Us All On The Civil War
While I find this Civil War lesson from Leva fascinating, to me it is like bolting the barn door after all the cattle has escaped. I tend to be more on the ‘never forget” side of things. But, frankly I’m not going to make a big deal about any monument being up or down. When was the last time you passed a monument? Leave it up. Take it down. I don’t give a shit either way. What we need is social justice reform. What we need it fair laws for everyone and not just the white people. What we need is for all Americans lives to matter, and an acknowledgement from people in power to acknowledge the rampant racist bullshit in this country. Just like the representative, I’ve walked by that statue many times. I had no idea who it was.
All this dramatic behavior by Lena is annoying. She is not black she is Iranian. She was born in India and raised in Canada and Bolivia. This is not her storyline. I get that her husband is a black American man and her sons are black American youths. But this just seems like a contrived storyline jumping on the bandwagon to me. And while ALL AMERICANS should be fighting for social justice, to me? This smacks of a desperate grab for air time during a very difficult time in this country when EVERYONE has had enough of the social injustice and police murdering black men. Why isn’t her husband there?
Kathryn Doesn’t Seem … Um …Right
Kathryn has the same problem I am having when getting things sent from online. How the hell am I supposed these boxes in the house? And what am I supposed to do with 99 boxes and one trash can? Did Kathryn cut her hair? Is she wearing wigs now? I really don’t know anymore. And either way, Kathryn and Shep and most of these people are racists. 100 percent. That is what we should be addressing. Not statues or names of hospitals. We have to address the actual problem and not remnants from hundreds of years ago. Click here for the news report on taking down the statue.
The ladies all go to The Republic for lunch. Danni reaffirms she didn’t know the meaning of the statue. Leva points out if that was a family member like it is for Kathryn then she would know. I agree with that. I am sure Kathryn knew her family history and it’s support of slavery. But, I feel like Kathryn should have been a part of this conversation, but I’m not sure she really gets it. Which again, adds to MY OPINION that she is racist. And the ladies really drive this point home to Danni. She didn’t just use a monkey emoji, she knew she was talking to a black woman and said “stop trying to use your minority claim.” Really, now? And my source seems to think things are going in a good direction for this show? REALLY? It’s been racist and focused on white privilege from season one! THIS IS NOT NEWS. And it ain’t just Kathryn!
Southern Charm Has Always Been A Racist Show!
So now Danni is being dragged in to this multicultural group Aaron has thrown together? Why were none of the white guys there? Why do they never get called out for their privilege and racism? This whole show is FOUNDED ON WHITE PRIVILEGE! I mean, yay I guess for calling Kathryn out, but what about Patricia, Whitney, Shep, etc etc etc. It’s literally the focus of this show! So, Gwynns fired Kathryn. As they should have years ago. And apparently hired Madison. I am going to recap WWHL too. I feel like they are focusing on one racist when there are so many on this show. Maybe that is just me.
Then, we get a scene where Shep is working out and waiting on Austen to join them. He is home feeling Flu-y. Austen has Covid because he goes out all night every night. Madison is pissed as fuck because he could stayed home. Austen says he probably got it from her because she works in a hair salon. Lot’s of finger putting going on. They seem to hate each other.
The Highlights From WWHL
Madison and Leva are on WWHL. Leva says that Kathryn learned a lot from the statue situation. Madison and Andy talk about how drunk Austen was during quarantine. And that was a problem. These sweaters that Andy is wearing is all the time are super expensive and he is plugging them for a dollah on his ratchet show. I also felt like this show was taped weeks ago. Leva and Danni seem to be very close. Clearly, Madison is over Austen. Austen slept with Craig’s new girlfriend so she is not a keeper. Madison says that Patricia knows a lot about her relationship Austen and she trusts her. Leva says that despite being best friends with Cameran is that she happy with the cast. But they are besties. Leva knows Kathryn’s new boyfriend. She has not given her any advice. Madison seems like she is back with Austen.
