There will be spoilers in this post. DO NOT READ THIS if you have HBO and have not seen The Undoing. I already feel like I missed a few episodes so I am going to go back and watch an episode or two prior to this. I will not go back online until I am done. I am really trying not to get spoiled. I had Kelly & Ryan on as background noise and she mentioned it was the finale and I immediately shut down and went to watch the show. But I am backing up to episode four because in the “previously on The Undoing part I felt like I must have missed an episode or two. Plus this is the only show I watch at least twice. Once I learn something on one episode I go back to watch the previous one again. This show it that good. I do not want it to be over! It’s worse than when Killing Eve seasons end!
Why are there children in this courtroom? The alleged killer’s kid and the son of the woman who was blunged to death. Why are they in the courtroom? Also, how do you get Nicole Kidman, Hugh Grant, and Donald Sutherland all on an HBO miniseries? It’s just so good.
I am not buying the dead sister story. Hugh is a better actor tha that. He seems to be faking it.
Five thousand weird things have happened to me during my catching up on this show. Including the fact that I had to go out to the curb and retrieve a box and IT IS SNOWING IN ATLANTA! Sure it is boring spitting snow, but I am excited.
I am not excited but another season is coming!
I HATED the way they ended this. What a let down.
The ending was underwhelming, even though Grace’s strategy was genius. Wish there were more episodes.
The naughty nature I have In general, thought he’d grab the boy and both go over the bridge.
So I read the book this is based on and it did not go in the direction I imagined…but I liked that.
I was pleased with the ending but can not imagine another season of her story.
I think they could have dove deeper into his disconnect with his family and his sisters death.
I wanted to know more about his deceptions because he’d obviously been doing this his whole life.
Hugh did good. I hated his character and hated how much Grace believed him.
I also wish they’d given more to Lily Rabe’s character. She’s such a good actress.
Overall I was happy with the direction of the story but I just wanted more episodes and details.
With HBO it’s either dragged out way too long or they don’t give it enough.
Grace’s jackets were amazing!
The courtroom scene was not very realistic but very entertaining.
I loved her coats too. I liked how they were reminiscent of robes, which I believe was a red herring (sleep walking or memory issues, she seemed to not recall coming home and speaking to her son and the flashbacks that looked like memories). I would live in those beautiful coats. I bet they cost a small fortune.
well at the beginning, the bail hearing etc, it was very realistic, real Queens detention center, real courtrooms, all of that was pretty realistic. Not so much the last episodes
I do get the the criticism on social media that there was not a big twist, but anyone who has loved a narcissist knows that they can make you doubt everything. I suspected every single character at one point. I am still undecided as to whether Hugh Grant pulled off playing a character who is playing a character. That is such a tough thing to do, and the tight performances by everyone else left me wanting and thinking it was too obvious. I’m thinking of the fake crying during the tv interview in particular. I can’t tell if it was bad on purpose. In reality, no one would ever put a guy like that on primetime or in front of a jury.
Well, as far as whodunit’s go, this was a A- only cuz I guess the most obvious answer WAS the obvious answer. I thought it was the blond friend lawyer. My god, he was a psychopath tho… Great show and I hope they make more like these!!!
Damn!! I too thought is was the blond lawyer friend ….. who was also having an affair with Hughs character.
i thought it was the blonde lawyer too! or one of the kids…
I’ve closed my eyes to comments about the Undoing because I thought I’d watch it. But if it has an ending like Lost or Game of Thrones where I want to bitch slap the writers, I’ll pass.
I find it very strange how much I see about this show online.
The Daily Mail even has an entire article about unanswered questions.
And that was not the only on they had about the show.
I liked it, but I sure didn’t love it. The end was pretty disappointing.
I found the whole helicopter thing ridiculous.
I thought the kid was a pretty decent actor.
I need more of this show. Maybe a Prequel?
Agree!
I bought the book when the show started and I began reading it today. I am on page 125, and there are 440ish pages.
It’s very good so far and a very easy read.
Yes! A deep dive into the sister’s death and Jonathan as a narcissistic doctor would be cool.
Yeah, I get the sort of underwhelming finish and the unrealities of the court room testimony but…….I cannot remember the last time I watched anything (let alone a 6 part series) that I still did NOT know who did it until the very end!! Writing for all these series seem so summed down. Hell, at one point I thought Miguel the kid may have done it! David Kelly also wrote Big Little Lies and even though I felt season 2 couldn’t compare to season one , I still enjoyed the writing.
Dummed down. I hate spellcheck
I know! When I saw the kid get on the stand, I was like… WTF did he know? Did he do it? It was just so good.
That kid is a great actor.
The ending was shit. Sucks that it concluded like the book. Sigh. Of course the title made it obvi… But, still! There were so very many ways the writers could have taken it another path.
That said, Reddit peeps are bitchin’ that there were no female writers. Here’s one (of many) perfect examples.
Paste:
The other reason you know this show didn’t have a female writer in the room — no woman goes to a long ass auction in full heels and NY socialite uniform, spends hours on her feet, and then is like “yeah the immediate next item on my agenda is taking a 3 hr round trip walk, alone at night in NY, through areas that I have no business being in”. To go to the murder scene she not only would have to have been walking through all kinds of areas a well-to-do rich, attractive white woman is just NOT going to feel comfortable walking through at night in NY… She also just would have had to do several hours of walking.
Maybe in the morning with her brunch-athleisure clothes and running shoes, but no way is she just like “imma walk for 3 hours into this specific grungy neighborhood, after having worn heels all day”
End paste
well that is interesting..
I binge watched this today so I wouldn’t read or hear any spoilers. Loved it— the acting, the NYC apartments…. those were eye candy for me. The apartment on Central Park is enough reason to watch again.
I am half way through the book. I started it yesterday because I knew that it was 440ish pages and wanted to see how it was.
As of now after 200 pages, I probably would recommend the mini-series.
A lot has to happen in the last 200 pages.
Oops sorry, I didn’t know that the comment from yesterday posted, lol. Well, a update on the book? Lol.
I loved the first episode and it was all over the place. I felt unsatisfied when it ended.
The actor who played the son, who’s supposed to be 12, is 15. Inneresting.
Wasn’t great; wasn’t bad. Had potential but ultimately let me down.
OMG I kept saying to my partner over & over again why in the F are these kids in the courtroom, especially Miguel. Also, I thought if you were on the witness list you weren’t allowed to be in the courtroom until after you testify, if at all.
The story about his sister seemed fake because it was! In that his recourse was fake so really you just commented on some great acting on Hugh Grants part & I’m not a fan of his. The acting was excellent in this series & Nicole Kidman looked so classy, graceful & that dress she wore to the school auction was amazing, she looked stunning. I think she’s cooled it on the Botox, starting about the time she was in Big Little Lies because she looks better than she has in years.
