Open Forum: Big Sky

November 24, 2020 by tamaratattles 39 Comments

Open ForumIt’s Bravo Free Tuesday y’all! If Bravo was smart, they would put RHOSLC on at 8 on Tuesday nights instead of after RHOC. If they thought RHOC was going to be a good lead in to RHOSLC, they were sadly mistaken. The good news is on Tuesday’s we have this crazy season of The Bachelorette. And even better, we have Big Sky on ABC at 10 pm right afterward! If you didn’t watch the first episode of Big Sky last week, go watch it now on Demand! Then you will be ready for episode two tonight!

Tonight we learn that the prostitute that the trucker picked up is a nonbinary transfeminine sex worker, and the actor who plays Jerrie also identifies as nonbinary transfeminine. We learn all this in a shocking shower scene where Jerrie asserts what little power she has over her captor. The show has some really dark moments. But it is really good. So check it out and we can talk about it here later.

In other news, every day this weeks seems like a Saturday. Or maybe a Sunday. It’s been a very slow news week for the Entertainment history. Everyone seems to be in a dither of some sort over the Grammys. I don’t know half the people who were nominated. I’m more into tonight’s episode of The Voice. There is some sort of winter doldrums starting to happen around here and I’m always just a few minutes from taking a nap.

Today, I received some fruit fly glue traps and so far they have absolutely no interest in them. These fruit flies are going to be the death of me. It’s SOFA KING annoying! I just tried a new plan where I lay the traps on the countertop they are so fond of with a bowl with apple cider vinegar on top. Surely I am smarter than a fruit fly, right? Don’t answer that.

Does anyone know what the Google Doodle is all about today? Some sort of Mexican holiday?

Tomorrow I have to make cornbread for Thursday’s dressing. I’m making a cornish hen with roasted sweet potatoes. They will not look like Oprah’s. And probably a couple more sides. What are your Thanksgiving plans? I plan to crack open some Beaujolais Nouveau and watch the parades and a bunch of Lifetime movies. 🙂

A friend of mine taught me a sure fire way to catch fruit flies. Put a piece of a banana in a bowl. Cover it with Saran Wrap and then slice a tiny hole in the top. Make dye the slice is open enough so that they can crawl in. One they are in, they can’t get out. It’s kinda gross yet fascinating how many you can catch.

Not being bossy, but did you put a few drops of dishwashing liquid in the wine? They go in for the hooch, get the soap on their wings, then walla forever sleepin in the wine. But good luck, they are ornery little shits.

YES!!!!, I recommended wine – but forgot to mention, I do a squirt of dish liquid.
I also have a water spray bottle with dish liquid to keep those pesky bugs off my vegetables outdoors.

Every time I wash some dishes I put a little bit of bleach in the sink drain. This is where they Multiply(especially if it’s a garbage disposal) and it kills their eggs. Good luck I’ve been trying to kill mine for months and have gotten it pretty under control with diligent douses of bleach down the drain!

suddenly i am into cooking foods i have never or rarely made before. so far tonight i made and ate fried oysters and am deciding whether tabasco chipolte sauce or tartar sauce or plain is the best accompaniment. found blueberries in the freezer and ended up with two pies. fortunately a neighbor volunteered to take one. yesterday it was a dark chocolate cake mix cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. another neighbor was having family over so they got the cupdakes. early in the day i cut the fancy schmancy quill, spider, and football mums for friends’ thanksgiving table displays. before covid, i had places to go, people to see, stuff to do.

I’m going to binge watch Big Sky over the Christmas holidays since I won’t be doing much of anything else. My sister is cooking for Thanksgiving but I’m not going to their apartment. My brother-in-law will bring some turkey, dressing, etc. to my house for my dog & I to enjoy. As far as the fruit flies, years ago, when Meredith Viera was still on The View, she was having the same problem. She said someone told her to pour half a glass of wine and put it on a kitchen counter. It’ll attract the fruit flies and they’ll drown. She had tried everything else and this was the only thing that worked.

Yep. Done that too… got a few, but the next day there are twice as many as the day before. Also poured boiling vinegar in the drain. Don’t see any right now. They must all be making more babies in the drain or something. Le sigh.

What drives me nuts is how they are impossible to swat.
        IMPOSSIBLE!
And how they hover at your face! Ooh I hate them!!
Where do they get off being so hard to kill? =)

I had a big problem with pantry moths for years. Not half as annoying as fruit flies, but still annoying. I bought some moth traps on Amazon and they worked!

Rosemary chicken, stuffing and acorn squash. Just my mom and I since others bailed but that’s ok this year. Ryan Phillipe doesn’t disappoint in Big Sky. Just hope women don’t get a bad wrap for some of the bad guys defiant behavior. My Thanksgiving grateful fors came in November and keep getting better.

I am re-watching Ladies of London. I have been off Bravo for awhile, though I do watch some clips here and there and I always read the recaps here. I found it on the Peacock app on my Roku. TT I remember you stating that Caroline is like a smiling shark and that is so very accurate.

Hi all. TT, thanks for all your hard work on this site so I’m thankful for that. Thankful that we have our health and can afford internet and cable. Making turkey with stuffing (here we go on the stuffing vs. dressing thing) sweet potato and cranberries from scratch and hanging with my boys (the cats) and husband. Not a bad day actually even tho all I like is the stuffing and dark turkey meat. But I save the bones and make soup for the leftover turkey. Started watching Black Narcissus on FX but I can’t get into it. Friend told me The Split was really good. It’s on Sundance or Hulu. But I’m still trying to figure out who the killer is on the Undoing. Haven’t done Big Sky yet. Saving it. And STILL haven’t started the Amazing Race so I need to get cracking. I love The Voice. I cry when they win. Just like that damn Undercover Boss. Always cry at the end of that. I hope that’s not fake like these damn housewives. Meanwhile, hubby has been walking around like the Grim Reaper bitching about all the idiots who won’t follow covid rules. Here in OC, the Sheriff decided his cops won’t be bothering people out past curfew. Oh, okay then. Also, giant crows have been digging up the lawn like crazy looking for grub worms. I’m not stopping a crow so I’ll just fix it when they finish this. Enjoy everyone. Oh, DirectTV is giving 5 days of free movie channels this coming end of week. At least they are here I don’t pay for those channels so I’ll have to see what’s up on there.

Husband said he is good with a turkey pot pie (like the 50¢ ones) lol.

I making a turkey breast with challah/sausage stuffing, white potato/sweet potato gratin, cranberry cherry chutney, asparagus and pecan pie bars for dinner. Meanwhile, I just watched the second episode of “Murder on Middle Beach” on HBO. This four-part series is made by the son of the victim, He was in film school when she was murdered in 2010. It takes place in Madison, CT. I live in Connecticut, although not near Madison. But since Madison is on the Connecticut shore, I have been within walking distance of the house because it’s right near the Madison Beach Hotel, where you can eat lunch or dinner on the porch overlooking the beach. It’s really
well made and a true mystery. I also watched the first episode of “Hunting the Gauleiter“ on Amazon Prime. It’s a BeloRussian show. It’s set in Minsk after the Germans invade in 1941. There are 10 episode—new binge watch.

Someone here has a suspect, that I don’t want to repeat because now I am not watching the show in the same way. I’m not sure of the motive…exactly…but the behavior seems sketchy now. That said, the jaw dropping twist we saw at the end of the last episode, doesn’t really fit with my/her suspect.

Looking forward to Big sky, right now we are watching the crown most nights.
I am watching the Bachelorette now. Ok Tayasha is gorgeous and sweet and fun, but there are two things: one, to be very shallow, is her pointy chin. I cant keep looking at it. also, she dated JPJ on Paradise! I dont get it, makes me question her taste.
I am thankful for so much this year. Our regular plans were canceled but we are doing a small family thing at my house. I decided not to make the dinner, we are having it made by a really good local deli. I am only making corn pudding and two desserts, apple crunch pie and bread pudding. The pie is the best apple pie recipe in the world. It is mostly like regular open apple pie, with a crumb topping, and there is a drizzle of caramel butterscotch sauce on top and toasted pecans. A-mazing.
Wishing a wonderful Thanksgiving to all my TT friends!

Now you got me thinking of your fruit fly dilemma. All the internet keeps saying is apple cider vinegar. I never had a fruit fly problem so i have no idea. Ants, yet. Not fruit flies. You can’t really fog your place since nobody can go anywhere and you can’t just sit outside for hours on end waiting for the poison to evaporate and also Banjo can’t be around that. Plus I think that shit stays in the air anyway, like that termite crap. Damn, someone must have a remedy….

Hey Tamara – I saw in the news this morning that John Gilbert Getty (another grandson of John Paul Getty) has died. Another premature death for the Getty family – he was 52. No cause of death yet.

For those who weren’t around at the time, we spent a lot of time discussing the Getty family when the mini series was out a couple of years ago. What was that called? Tamara recapped it, and it was utterly fascinating.

Cornbread is almost done and ready to dry out over night (If I don’t eat too much of it.) Fruit flies have no interest in the glue trap. They literally walk right up to it and then fly into the wine. The wine traps are moderately successful. But the fruit flies are still winning.

Not sure if you’ve tried this exact combo together yet, but apple cider vinegar in a small round bowl or glass. Cover the top with seran wrap, then poke a bunch of small holes in the seran with a toothpick or tongs on a fork. Be careful not to place the holes too close together, or the flies can get out. It may take a week or so, but be patient, and replace the vinegar with fresh every few days.

This trick works for me every time, even in our garage, where I found hundreds in my husbands beer can recycling bin. Almost gagged when I poured them all down the drain.

I’m trying everything. wine and an orange slice covered with saran wrap works the best. But today I got serious about the DRAINS because that is where they lay all the eggs I think. Just poured boiling vinegar water down all the drains. I will probably do liquid plumber in the bathtub and bathroom sink tonight as well. Also, hot boiling water with dawn and bleach in the kitchen drains over night. I think the focus should be on the drains. Otherwise it is never ending…

      I am making progress though.

I’ve been sucked into Netflix for 36 hours & just had my Turkey day meal I ordered on line delivered & having a glass of wine with a biscuit and cranberry sauce. Save the rest for tomorrow.

3 amazing movies I just watch:
    Hillbilly Elegy
    American Hangman
Shepherd and Butchers – shocked this was from 2016, and heard nothing of this movie. Haunting, I put it on at 4am and still, disturbed….graphic, – true story, and I feel so stupid I had no idea.

Murder on Middle Beach probably could be enough for the reveal.

There is enough dressing left to get me through …Tuesday? Eat, watch Christmas movies, sleep. repeat. Oh and wine… currently plowing through the Prosecco. I also reordered the Beaujolais Nouveau for the first time ever. It was actually sold out at the local store. SOLD OUT! This never happens.
