I can never remember what I recap on what day. So I was happy to discover that tonight it is a Below Deck recap. I believe we get a new stew tonight and Izzy moves to the deck. Also, we finally get rid of the assholes and the crew gets their first shore leave together. I have shrimp and grits for the occasion! I can’t remember the last time we had a crew who was this dysfunctional. But, first we have to get these awful charter guests off my TV. Also, I don’t remember any of the crew’s names. To top that off it is pouring rain.
Wow! Charlie left a $25,000 tip! That may be the biggest tip ever. They each got close to $2,300! He has also been on social media telling people that production made them do all the over the top stuff. I believe that. Back in the early seasons I would have charter guests write me about their experiences on the boat that were not that pleasant. Apparently, they are told to do things and production really cuts in to their time enjoying their trip. Then on one of the early season the crew and even Captain Lee would trash talk them on the show. Some felt humiliated.
Rachel misses her boyfriend and one of the stews, Izzy tells us about her vibrator. Captain Lee has a preference sheet meeting. The next charters are twenty somethings. Dax and Max are the primaries. The both brought their girlfriends and a couple of random friends from high school. Their main request is sushi to be eaten off a nude model. Rachel says all she keeps thinking is fish on fish. I’ve literally only ever seen this disgusting petri dish style of serving sushi on Bravo shows. Also, I don’t eat bait.

But first, the crew gets shore leave. They have two large vans and they spilt up even though they could fit in one. They order sushi. Yuck. That was the most boring shore leave ever. They go home at 10 pm. James is pissed. So am I. Drunken shore leaves make it easier to know who’s who. That was just pathetic. James wants to find someone who will break the rules with him.
A New Stew
Shane is four minutes late to work because he is brushing his teeth. Eddie hunts him down. Shane is an idiot but Eddie is kind of a jerk. Then Ashling arrives as the new stew. She’s a blond and the guys are already smitten. Sadly, her luggage got lost on the flight. So all she has is her carry on. Once when I was coming back home my luggage got lost. I had to sleep in the Atlanta airport until it showed up because my car keys and house keys were in the checked bag. I never made that mistake again. James tells her that they are bunking together. Then, he asks if she is single. She’s not. Francesa loves her because another Aussie. She also tells her that she will bunk with her. James is irritated again. But Izzy has moved in with James.

Ashling just flew from Australia. It took 30 hours and the first charter guests are arriving in about an hour. No rest for the travel weary. Elizabeth gets promoted to second stew. For now. I think Ashling has more experience. Francesca needs a larger sized shirt. Her boob are busting out of her dress shirt. The kids are already asking for drinking games. Do they really needs a coordinator for drinking games? I wonder if this is the group that breaks the open water rules and Captain Lee takes them right back to the shore? Francesa gives Ashling a million things to do. It seems very excessive. Also, Elizabeth gives her more work to do. Elizabeth’s work.
Shane Continues To Screw Up
Eddie is being really snarky with Shane. It’s not cool. Then Shane does something to screw up a line. Eddie is pissed and even worse, Captain Lee is watching and he is not happy. Rachel is making Sushi. She really knows what she is doing! She learned in Japan. And the nekkid model has arrived. But right now the focus on Shane. Izzy is working out well on deck. At least compared to Shane. Captain Lee and Eddie are ready to give Shane a ticket home. Ashling cries from the weight of it all. The kids don’t respect the high quality sushi they were served.
Next week, it seems things get worse for Shane.
Thanks for the great recap TT, Now I don’t have to watch! Hope you and Banjo are as well as expected!
PS… Not to change the subject, but I just feel the need to say Shep is a fucking idiot again?
Cheers
I think it’s veeerrry convenient to blame “production” for one’s own asshole-ish behavior.
No REALLY the charter guests are often given storylines. There is a reason they keep bringing this guy back. I think he took it farther than they meant for him too… but I bet we see him again.
Also, I think production pays the tip.
My understanding is that the cast gets paid from the company that hires them, and then the tips substantially increase their pay. The salary I’ve seen for the billets seem decent but it’s mostly dependent on tips from what I understand. Is that something you can shed some light on?
That guest did come off as kind of a high demand douchebag but at the same time he did notice the stress he was putting on the crew and even attempted to assist them. Whether that was production driven, or him attempting more air time I don’t know but I would like to think his conscience was getting the better of him in those moments.
I get that these guests get the charter at a reduced rate, but it would absolutely suck to have the cameras all around them throughout the duration of their still fairly expensive vacation so I do have some sense of empathy for guests.
Production pays the cast just lie any other Bravo show. Part of their pay is the tips. Production has all the money in the country where they are prior to filming. It is a PITA for charter guests to fly with that much cash in addition to the actual cash they want to bring.
Thanks I always wondered where they come up with the tip money on pretty much demand. But I really wondered when he came up with so many US dollars for a tip on this show.
Absolutely agree! She only made herself look like an unprofessional, immature “cook” who doesn’t even have enough class or common sense to get a vocabulary past “cooch”. Sad display. It was hard and sad to watch really. I would love to see her career stagger as it should, but unfortunately these days, it’ll probably only make her more popular…… Rant over. 🙂
Ashling wtf I thought it was a mistake TT I have never ever heard of anyone called Ashling and I’m from Australia… ??♂️ Love your work and hopefully production won’t totally ruin this show like so many others on bravo ( except for Potomac enjoying that one so much and cannot wait to travel again one day to Europe
I just assumed that it was an Aussie name. lol. I don’t hate it.
Ashling is an Irish name. I thought she was Irish until she started speaking and I heard he Aussie accent!
I think everyone should cut interior (especially Elizabeth) a little slack. They were down a stew once Izzy moved to deck which meant Elizabeth had double the work trying to get the boat guest ready. Laundry seems to fall to the bottom of the priority list as we have seen in many other seasons, as guests needs come first.
Eddie is being a mean girl this season. I don’t like this look. Also – 100% these charter guests were told what to do – 100%.
One of the things I really liked about Eddie this episode is how he was actively teaching his people how to do the job, what I didn’t like is that he was kind of being a dick about it with his comments.
Who’s betting that Shane gets the boot? They need some big strong boys like Capt. Sandy’s deckhands anyway.
I was worried about how pained Captain Lee appeared this ep. Deep, deep pain lines. Scripted or not, I teared up on the big tip. The pandemic is seriously getting to me.
Yeah, Captain Lee is a trooper for going through this season with busted ribs.
Welcome to Episode Three of Below Deck brought to you by Takahashi Corporation makers of live joy sushi products. Live joy life.
You know how Coke bottles and cans used to have the classic Coke name and on the side they said enjoy life; well when I was in Japan they all read Live joy life on the side, or something really similiar. I always got a kick out of that.
This episode was kind of sushi heavy wasn’t it? And that tacky sushi on a nude girl routine just shows those kids have a lot of growing to do. And was it me or did I hear one of the girls say that one of the guy’s parents paid for the trip? Maybe I misheard that.
Anyway mostly kind of a boring watch, and I agree Eddie is being a little too hard on Shane, but Shane is a little confused about the concept of the separation of job time and vacation time in an exotic environment.
The best thing about this episode was topless Captain Lee searching high and low for a bottle of vodka. He had me rolling.
Yes, the parents of Max and Dax paid for the trip. That is why they are co primaries and had to play beer pong to determine who got the master suite.
See that makes sense.
These guests are annoying after one minute. I heard one of the girls say when taking a picture of another girl that she needs to send this to her parents so they know what they are paying for, so yes.. spoiled little kids. Who drinks this much? My god, at 20 I was working 2 jobs. Anyway, I don’t mind Eddie and he needs to get some help. Shane is a moron and has no concept of time and he needs his ass kicked. This is a job, it’s called WORK for a reason. Same with James, this isn’t a vacation. I can’t stand either of these little twits. Eating sushi off someones body is disgusting. And I’m with TT, I don’t eat bait either. It makes me want to hurl watching people eating it. Ugh. The stews don’t bug me actually. Love Captain Lee. He makes Sandy look like some third rate, D list captain that graduated from the bottom of the class.
Yes that was the comment. She made it clear it’s not that the kids are wealthy but that their parents are, but I suppose it’s essentially pretty much the same thing though the kids loose the merit that production attempted to impart on them.
So sick of Production interference on these shows.
Also after considering your comment, now that you mention it Eddie begging for help from the Captain is pretty much much more pathetic than the captain having to deal with a crying Chief Stew after she and her staff were treated much more roughly by the guests, and yet still managed through. Point for point the Chief Stew wins that one over the Bosun. Although I will give him credit for their showing how he was actively attempting to train his people. We see that all of the time from the Chief Stews and a lot less often from the Bosuns.
You’re correct that what I mentioned above your comment about Shane also appears to also be true about James; the tendency towards thinking they’re on vacation; that doesn’t mean either deserves an ass kicking; figuratively, or actually. They appear to have lived entitled lives to this point, they’ll learn, that generally doesn’t require an ass kicking.
I am confused about the room situation. With the addition of Ashling there are now 4 girls…so why did Izzy have to volunteer to room with James? Who is Rachel with? Maybe I missed it…
There are 5 girls. Chief stew Francesca, Elizabeth, Ashling, deckhand Izzy, and Chef Rachel.
