Open Forum: It’s The Second Friday 13th of My Quarantine

November 13, 2020 by tamaratattles 88 Comments

It’s been eight months! Eight months of wearing masks and hiding in the the house because the Orange One lied to everyone about the seriousness of the virus and told them not to wear masks. Just yesterday Rand Paul told the million people who had already had Covid to go out and live it up because they have immunity. New information indicates that is not the case at all and the antibodies don’t hang around forever. Based on the past election results, people were convinced that the pandemic is all an elaborate hoax and/or we don’t all need to “be in this together” and wear masks.

So far this Friday 13th has sucked. It started sucking late last night and I haven’t made it to bed “for the night” yet today. I was going to try to make a dash to the grocery store today. I need more easy to make frozen dinners. And water, wine, beer, Mexican Co-colas, etc so I can stay holed up until spring. But I’m ready for a long nap and don’t ever enter or leave the ghetto after dark if I can possibly avoid it. So I’m going to suck down some more Pepto Bismol and try to get Banjo to go out before I take the big sleep.

What are y’all doing today? The next Friday the 13th is next August. Hopefully by then we will have a new president, a new vaccine, a new antibody treatment, and well…just some sort of plan for all of this that makes sense. Not,”It’s from CHINA! It’s a Hoax! We’ve rounded the corner! The number of deaths is a lie! Why didn’t they get a vaccine before the election!”And other nonsense…

In the meantime, we need to stock up on toilet paper and wine … again. Hope everyone is hanging in there!

Hi TT. Jake Tapper, google him on what he said about T and the CDC. It is frightening. I do not understand covid-deniers. This whole mask thing is a non-verbal IQ test. I didn’t realize it was Fri the 13th… but here we are. I guess I’ll stay in again and think of something else to make out of chicken. Just want to say thanks for all the work you do on this little slice of heaven for me and I think a lot of us as well. You give me something to look forward to each morning after the cats wake me up ravenous at 6:00 a.m. and I shovel shredded wheat with bran and granola in me to get my day started before it’s nap time… I found some sort of hard shell bug in the silverware drawer yesterday (we are up in tahoe now) and hours later it was on the floor and windex didn’t even bother it. It crawled away and now I’m worried about it. That’s me day…

I have a lizard who got in during the hurricane last week and is eating my dog and cat food and drinking their water. When I tried to rescue it, it jumped on me, so now it is my new third pet who I am living in fear of and don’t want to hurt.

What is with the lizards? Shouldn’t they be hibernating yet? Front screen door was not installed properly and there is a small gap under id big enough for giant cockroaches and baby lizards to crawl under. The worst part is the baby lizards crawl up the screen door so that when I get ready to dash out in to the pandemic, already stressed, the MOFO is right at eye level! I’m not ashamed that more than once I have shouted at the little boys walking down the sidewalk in front of my house and asked them to come rescue me. MAKE IT STOP! And if they don’t make it that far, they love to sun on my front stoop. They would actually be kind of cute, from a distance…

Raining here. Its Friday & am anxious to just get out of the house. Not much planned for the weekend but looking forward to it just the same. Seriously heavy feeling today. Gained so much weight during lockdown & seriously need to lose weight. Middle age spread not pretty. Ravenous appetite lately but that’s probably just the upcoming winter blues. I need to remind myself CHRISTMAS IS COMING. Hope everyone is safe & well. Happy Friday the 13th to all !

I cannot stand Rand Paul. A few weeks he gave an interview where he said the restaurant and cruise ship industry should actively hire people who had recovered from Covid. My husband is the kitchen manager at sizable restaurant and he cannot get anyone to show up to work. The hospitality industry is struggling. Every person my husband hires drops off the face of the earth after a few days. And that has been the trend for the past five years. It shows how out of touch he is with regular people that he thinks employers in certain industries can “pick and choose ” who they hire.

Trumps speaking , taking credit for all Covid advancements. Check out 20/20 last Sunday. Trump got his info from there.
According to the reports coming out since election and people feel free to speak, Trump had caused problems in all aspects of Covid.

Since Biden has come out with his plan and shown his Covid plan, Trump suddenly acts like he cares.
Pfizer got money from the government so Trump gets credit for that, but that is all he did. Alll he is doing is trying to make himself look good.

Biden’s win had Americans celebrated in the streets all over our country. First time since the WW war 2’ s end.

My daughter (8) just tested positive for Covid. Oddly the rest of us are negative. We plan on getting retested next week. I feel like I am fighting something off. But I don’t even know if I can “fight off” Covid. So far my daughter has no symptoms other than appetite loss and she is extra tired. Had I not known about her exposure I would probably still be sending her to school. So I am very glad that the person who exposed her was honest about it.

So we are officially quarantined til Thanksgiving. Just ordered one for my small family of 5. At least this gives us an out to the big Thanksgiving my in laws are planning. They are unconvinced of the pandemics seriousness.

I was just reading where Elon Musk did 4 rapid tests, 2 came back positive, 2 negative. So, he did the test they send off & awaiting those results. He said it was same testing machine, same nurse in the rapid tests. That’s dangerous. The Kardashians supposedly used a rapid test on guests for their big party recently.
We know a family here that were together Halloween night. The dad, step mom & step sis tested positive for Covid 2 days later, but another daughter, & her husband never came down with it. It’s so confusing how some get it, some don’t, some barely have symptoms and some get so sick.

Happy 13th, T. I hope your foray into the jungle goes well today. It’s a good feeling to make it back with loads of supplies so you can lock your door against the world in comfort. It’s more of the same shit here, too. We better brace for an awful winter. I’m serious. I’m not planning on any festivities except New Years. I look forward to kicking 2020 in the ass before I spit on it.

I do not understand why they allowed schools to reopen. Remote learning is not perfect but better than nothing. It seems to me that schools are a big driver of spreading infection. Everyone knows that Schools and Walmart are incubators of the flu every year, so I don’t get why they don’t apply to same logic. Worst flu I ever had was caught from my nephews who were in daycare. My poor childless immune system just couldn’t compete.

I am starting a serious diet tomorrow. Complete with exercise program. I have gained so much and it’s been uncomfortable but I am now feeling toxic, too. So I will use Q 2.0 to help get rid of some of the pounds and misery. Maybe by Spring I will start looking human again in time for the real reopening of society. I have big plans for when that happens. Plans that I had last January but were put on ice for far longer than I could have guessed they would be. It will be wonderful when it is safe to get a professional haircut and spa services again. Maybe even wear something other than pajamas. Instead of looking for holiday outfits, I’m ordering 7 pairs of jersey knit pajama bottoms, 7 thermal henleys in “festive” colors, and 7 thick socks. I may go all out and get a new pair of dog clogs for walkies. I might make some new virtual friends, though. My exercise will be interactive with leaderboards. I can always use accountability partners. “Starvation, sugar -free, sweating, soaking and sleeping are the near-term for me. Anyone care to join? Hehe.

Hats off to all of you brave souls on the front lines. You’re in my thoughts every single day. Biden? To Sir with love. We are counting on you. Don’t let us down.

2020 just sucks. It’s almost Thanksgiving, and Covid is raging here in our state. I had a colon resection in 2018, no colostomy (thank God), but had a CT 2 weeks ago due to pain on side of ascending colon. Still have no answer for that pain but it looked like I had a bubble in my bladder which could indicate a fistula. I’ve had a urine analysis & culture & have no bacteria. I always have blood in urine though (I had a cystoscope last yr which found no cause for blood). CT also showed I may have some stenosis in colon from the 2018 surgery. Dr wants to do a colonoscopy which terrifies me as we’ve had 3 people to die here locally from colonoscopy tears. My surgeon in 2018 used CT w/contrast to watch me leading up to surgery, said there was no need for a colonoscopy (I’d had one in 2016) & CT would show him everything…it did, even inflammation. This GI Dr I saw 2 wks ago ordered my CT w/o contrast (nurse later even acted surprised he did not order contrast). Now based on that CT he wants to do a colonoscopy that I do not want. His compromise on the colonoscopy is a barium enema. I’ve read it’s risky as well & has been widely replaced by CT. They fill you w/air & barium that can set up like concrete if you don’t get it out. A nurse told me she had had one and would not think do it in my situation. So I had my primary to order a CT w/contrast and I guess I will see what those findings are before making a decision. I am VERY stressed. I guess that’s why these idiots on these Bravo shows are getting on my nerves more than usual.

Yep!!! I was forever years old when I finally learned that lesson. I don’t think I’ve regretted listening to it ever since. As you say, it is important to separate intuition from fear. A good measuring stick is that fear grips in an cold iron fist and intuition just follows you around and nags.

Mel, I feel you. what state are you in? I have Crohns/UC and an on Stelara. It’s worked wonders. You just follow your gut instincts (no pun intended) on this because you and you alone know what is normal for you and you will make the right decision. Do the CT with contrast. Easy. No big deal and MUCH BETTER THAN THE ENTIRE COLONOSCOPY with the clean out, etc. That barium enema sounds dangerous to me as well. These gastro issues are hell because there are so many variables. Sending thoughts and prayers your way over this.

        Thank you! I’m in TN.
The thing is, I was not even going to this Dr about any issues w/vacating bowels (sorry TMI). That had been working great. The CT w/o contrast showed some possible stool at the anastomosis where I was reconnected when sigmoid colon was removed, which makes me nervous because trapped stool can cause an abscess (which is how this path I’m on began). Then, I got so anxious over that & the possible bubble that I could not get things to work. Then, I started stressing over that because I’ve always been so conscientious about making sure things “work” daily. I usually drink some warm prune juice before bed if I eat pizza, pasta, etc just as insurance. Well, when I got so stressed, I overdid the prune juice and got my colon inflamed. I could feel the inflammation. So I did bone broth, applesauce, yogurt for several days and it took a few things to get things back to normal. I really don’t want issues from barium & I’ve read it puts stress on colon wall anyway.
Yes, I’m thankful my primary ordered the CT w/contrast just to have a clearer pic of what’s going on before doing things w/risk & complications.
A nurse at GI’s office recommended Mira Lax vs prune juice or even as a daily maintenance. Have you any experience w/it?

Mel, in January 2019 – after 10 days in hospital with impacted colon & gall bladder surgery I decided to be tested for food allergies. Turns out what I was eating daily was causing my weekly stomach issues. Gave up dairy ?, so difficult because I love cheese.

FF, 75% of my issues are in the past. I nibble on really good cheese & have an egg once in a while- but was amazed how fast my tummy issues were fixed.

People think being unable to put on weight is a blessing. It CAN BE, once you are at a healthy weight. But, having been “too skinny,” (nowadays I would not be considered too thin, but in the pre-Twiggy days, I was) and too fat.

It is possible to lose weight, but neigh impossible to gain when your body fights you. Best wishes for a healthful balance.

One woman called me rude and how I wanted to shut the country down then give Republican’s jobs to immigrants . Covid was no worse than H1N1.
      I posted using webmd & cdc the stats. H1N1 = 12,000 deaths,
      Covid = 240,000 + deaths & rising

I also thought he was faking. Covid-19 does a number on healthy individuals. I know that he received the best medical care, but he bounced back rather quickly for his age and underlying health conditions. Then he went on a never ending campaign blitz. Who does that after Covid-19?

I’d be more concerned with the firing of the top four men from the Pentagon/defense dept by replacing them with his buddies that are unqualified men who now are able to access all our nations secrets.
He is also getting ready to fire the CIA chief and a trumper will replace her.
This is the beginning of his revenge. He is continuing to damage our national security.
FIVE soldiers were killed today, he gave no mention of those brave men.

    Biden’s electoral #306.
No fraud and one case of potential late ballots equal 10,000. that number will not help.
    Covid45’s electoral #232

TT don’t know if I will think of this later,
Have yourself a warm peaceful grateful remaining November. Hope you find a book you will enjoy enough too lose yourself in and of course your Christmas Hallmark movies.

    Friday 13th News Update:

At least 130 Secret Service agents charged with helping protect the White House and Trump when he travels are isolating or quarantining after testing positive for COVID-19, or coming in close contact with infected officers … according to the Washington Post.

Trump has hired Giuliani, his personal attorney and NDA payoff/ Bribery guy to handle the election challenges according to NYT. (probably because the government attorneys all refused).

Trump says he is not going to let the state of New York have the vaccine. Fun Fact: He won’t be president when that happens. And B) even if God forbid he was, it’s still not up to him.

Claudia Jordan says Trump wanted to fuck her when she was on Celebrity Apprentice.

So many in here have GI disorders. I have been suffering with pancreatic insufficiency for a long time have had years of distress. My father passed away from a colon resection that didn’t take and I will never forget how he suffered. So many here are suffering. I hope you get second opinions. I think the stress of what we have had to endure this year is taking a toll on us all. Blessings to Tamara for providing so much love in here. I hope you realize how much you mean to so many.

I am so sorry to hear about your issues, and your father. I heard/read so many sad stories before my colon resection. I did not want to go through w/it. It was terrifying. I really had no choice. I’d had an abscess and multiple Drs said once you have one you’re more likely to have another.
I am truly so sorry he suffered and passed away from it.

Interestingly, my GI DR says his patient ratio is 2:1 women over men.
He really didn’t have evidence as to why – but he is high on nutrition: high fiber, low on dairy & red meat. Also he made me look crazy at him when he said women have a habit of taking care of other before themselves, generally internalizes stress more & ignoring symptoms for much longer than his male patients.

      Just thought an interesting observation.

I can believe that Lu. Years of stress, putting myself through Nursing school and being estranged from my daughter caused me to have IBS so bad for so long that it through my body into pancreatic insuffiency.

Cheryle, stress truly rules when I can eat…what stays down.
My poor husband marveled how I knew where every Chick FilA was in all of DFW. Cleanest bathrooms & most times it was just a fake out.

I could literally be a BH housewife, because I don’t eat much when out dining with others. Lol, always worried …. which is stress on steroids.

Best to your healing – truly!

I’m in Canada. For awhile, we were spared relatively speaking from the chaos and lack of covid management that the US suffered (still suffers) with. I’m worried that it’s changing now. I live where people are very divided. If you wear a mask, you’re a sheep living in fear. Our numbers are going up. I’m careful and try my best to keep my household safe. But others don’t. I’m naturally anxious but haven’t let it consume me in the last few months. I thought I was doing well. I’ve had a pit in my
stomach the last few days. I’m concerned about where things are headed. I truly hope things get better for our continent, and world. We all need to be inconvenienced a bit longer and suck it up. This will pass if we do the right things. That’s what I tell myself anyway.

I live in Texas & it’s been business as usual since the start of the summer.
Would say every establishment has a mask required policy – yet not everyone does, more do not & zero enforcement. We were the first state to reach a million cases, but football, schools, salons, restaurants all operating with “caution” , but personal liberties seem to be more important.

I go out early or very late to run my errands, mask always. My dog food is delivered (love Chewy), and get my bulk water, protein drinks from Amazon. Have not seen a single family member Or friend since March 6th, I’m alone and If can do this safe after a personal hiccup of life circumstances -so can everyone else.

It’s reckless & selfish – because a HS Football game seems more important than the community staying safe? Bothersome beyond.

Gingerella, think about it. A sheep living in fear? Compared to what? A grunt living in dumb? It’s very simple really. Just follow best practices to avoid infection. Actions can give you a feeling of control and therefore, can ease anxiety. Follow the cornerstones like a religion: Masks, hand wash (twice), sanitize, social distance. Avoid unnecessary trips anywhere. Don’t mingle with people outside your household. Accept the fact the threat is real, here and serious until it isn’t. Staying home and finding ways to alleviate the stress of boredom is better than giving up and going out because you’re tired of it all. I know people who decided for themselves they had been cooped up long enough and began to venture back into society because they just couldn’t stand the aloneness anymore. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out so well for one of them. He became infected and is still fighting weird ass symptoms that aren’t fun. Annnnnd, guess what, he’s staying home, alone, while he fights it. Better to stay at home in wellness and read, play Scrabble or Words with Friends, garden, cook, learn a new language, get in shape, have Zoom get togethers on Fridays nights with the gang. Everyone can drink and gab. Hugs can be expressed. Bonus, no one has to call a cab when they can just crawl into bed. I’ve heard of singles organizing virtual club nights with strangers. There is no end to our capacity for creativity if we apply ourselves. I know TT gets thanked all the time for providing this space. It’s a great spot. So thanks again, TT!! ?

This breaks my heart. Many of us dream of Canada. Where everyone is nice. Everyone is sane. And Covid is being handled very well because Canadians are all wearing masks and keeping each other safe. I did see a Canadian, or Canookians, my term of endearment, went off like a Karen in a store because he would not wear a mask. Even TMZ who reported the story was like THIS WAS IN CANADA!

Most of us Canadians are very nice, and many are responsible about covid. Wearing a mask and avoiding socializing is fine by me. Cover my zits, AND I don’t have to see people? Perfect! I just don’t understand the outrage over making a sacrifice for the greater good (health) of others. The quicker we all do our part and accept some inconveniences, the quicker this will be kept at bay.

On a similar note, the March Friday the 13th was the last day of in person learning for my son’s school for the first shut down. Fast forward to now…..school had been in person since August. Suddenly, the school got shut down on Friday November 13. E-learning until the middle of January at least. De Ja Vu.
