Southern Charm Recap: A Pair And A Spare

November 12, 2020 by tamaratattles 78 Comments

southern charm recapIt’s time for another Southern Charm recap. YAY? There is a tiny bit of breaking news this week regarding Southern Charm. Madison has bought herself a pair of boobs. I never really noticed her boobs before so I’ll have to watch for them tonight. The new ones actually look nice and don’t seem to be huge. In other news, Thomas Ravenel is still filing paperwork trying to get a judge to give him their children so he can take them to Aiken to live with Baby Mama number two. Thomas basically offered her a large increase to her child support in exchange for the kids. That’s just sick. And just how Thomas is. That said, Kathryn does appear to be…a bit off this season.

Southern Charm RecapRelationship Drama

We begin tonight with the Southern Charm Version of The Odd Couple. Apparently, Austen is Felix and Craig is Oscar. At least that appears to be the script. I think they are both Oscars and Austen just doesn’t like other people making messes in his house. They go straight from bickering to planning a boys night out drinking. Kathryn has a mess of her own at her house. She is trying to get the house she inherited in Monck’s Corner in order. Oh, but she is still staying with Thomas. And she thinks they might be back together. Oh girl… Shep and Danni go to a dog park that sells beer! It is stupidly located right on the marsh. Shep is going on a double date with Austen. Danni tries to keep Shep from being a dick.

Leva is planning to invite the girls over to her house an Iranian dinner. She also pronounces Irani incorrectly. John Pringle goes to visit his sister Jenny and her husband Alan. The point of the scene is to tell Jenny about Madison. And also facetime his boys.  We also get a gander at his ex-wife who looks a lot like Madison.

An Awkward Double Date

After Shep went out of his way to humiliate Austen and Madison at his ridiculous dumb and dumber party, and then followed it up by being a dick at Austen’s wine event, I see no reason for this double date to even happen. It seems that Madison and Austen are just gluttons or punishment. Or production is just riddled with assholes. It seems like Austen is out for a bit of revenge. He asks Shep if he and Taylor are an actual couple. They decide to define their relationship right at the table. Shep announces that they are in fact a couple. Shep has a girlfriend. Poor girl.

The moment I update my tags and remove Anna  Heyward, Craig’s assistant who does all the work, she calls and “wakes him up”? You know, despite the fact there is a cameraman in his bedroom. Anna tries to motivate Craig to find a rental while he is waiting on his asbestos removal at his house. He does manage to rouse himself in time to go out with the guys. Everyone is hungover from the beer tent event. Especially, Craig. Craig is not going to drink much. John Pringle is throwing them back and trying to pick up young, blonde girls with dad jokes. Shep arrives ready to drink and flirts with the young girls. John Pringle tells Austen he is coming for Madison. The guys go on a full out bar crawl and Craig’s plans to go easy on the booze completely disappears.

The Iranian Dinner Party At Leva’s

I hate when these people talk on their cellphones while driving. Especially in a rain storm. Leva’s mom has been cooking all day. And Leva hired someone to make her house look like an Iranian castle in between. It’s looks like the traditional tahdig (crispy rice) and fessonjun (a chicken dish) is there plus a ton of other delicacies. Suddenly, I am missing Asa. The girls get a mini education about the Iranian Revolution of 1979.

They chat about Republic the most popular Charleston bar Leva owns. That is where Kathryn met Thomas. It’s very popular with the young crowd looking to hook up. Madison shares that she raided Patricia’s closet for the event. Patricia showed her a large diamond ring and then told her, “You ain’t getting that from Austen.” Does anyone else think Patricia is way over invested in the life of her decades younger hairdresser? Madison said the comment really hurt her feelings.

Southern Charm Recap

BOMBSHELL!

It looks like we are about to get to the bombshell news from the title. Thomas has knocked someone up. Kathryn gets a conveniently timed text during desert. She runs to find Danni to tell her. The woman is having the baby (actually, she already did). Kathryn found it out from her lawyer. Thomas didn’t tell her. Then Kathryn tells everyone. She is six or seven months along at this point. She’s been pregnant the whole time she has been living with him.

I tried watching tonight. I’m not sure if this season is just not that interesting or it’s just me and I can’t get into it. I saw a meme that fits me lately, “What pisses you off? Answer: “Nouns…people, places and things.” This show just annoys me anymore except for Craig, and I’ve felt really bad for Kathryn in the past, but the shit w/her has gotten old. Thomas is just gross AF and the thought of him having those kids full time makes me sick. Shep will never really change. Austen & Madison probably deserve each other, and Patricia is too invested in her hairdresser, 50 yrs her junior.

I think it’s crazy that John Pringle says he and his ex-wife are good coparents while he lives 2500 miles away and only has the kids twice a year for vacation. Is it cultural/Peter Pan Syndrome that the expectations of fathers in Charleston are…dirt?

All I know about Anthony Quinn is he was in Libya when I lived there. We MUST have been stalking him at the behest of my mother because we were at a restaurant at a very nice hotel and my parents were REALLY cheap. But this was a lot of excitement for the expats. My mom was freaking out a little bit by seeing him. She wanted her cute little girl to go ask him for an autograph. I stubbornly refused and Mom was mad at me for weeks. LOL.

The reason I mentioned Anthony Quinn was because someone questioned how Thomas Ravenel could father a child at 51.I remembered that Anthony Quinn had 12 or 13 children, the last one when he was in his 80s.

I still want to know where Bethany Conover is, damnit. I assumed Madison’s plastic surgery signaled that she officially broke up with Austen. I don’t know why child support would increase when custody is restricted, and more money is typically not helpful to (alleged) drug abusers.

Thomas and Kathryn are not successful at parenting together. Hopefully, they’ll get it together someday. They’re both volatile, but if only one of them has to have the kids, I tend to think Thomas is more stable. He has extended family, he hires lots of nannies, cares which school the kids go to.

It does sometimes seem like he is intentionally torturing Kathryn psychologically.

I am shocked that Leva said that 10 years ago Charleston Club Scene had 2 different lines to get in. Whites and blacks. That’s so not true! That wasn’t even true 15 or 20 years ago. She’s full of it! I was born, raised and still in Charleston. I have been all over downtown. She also charges men to get in Republic, but not women. It was $5.00 a few years back. It’s probably more now.

I found Leva to be kind of misguided. I am not scandalized by cultural appropriation of clothing the way some people are and I like a theme party, but if Leva’s experience is that anyone not white/blonde is treated like a total circus freak in Charleston and she wants her platform on the show to fix that, she’s undermining her goal by making the traditional Persian dinner a costume party.

I think you guys are misunderstanding what Leva was saying. I think she felt out of place as an Iranian and didn’t fit in anywhere in Charleston, with the black people or the white people. I don’t think she meant actual lines of people.

Charleston has not always been the most racially harmonious place. Do you think Thomas has black friends? Or even Yankee Patricia? Shep? Kathryn (the Ravenell guy doesn’t count)? Austen? Any of them really. Years ago and for decades we would shop at the open air slave market. There are many works of art depicting it. Over the past few years we are told not to call it the slave market. And it was never a slave market to begin with. Now, most of the cultural goods and services were there have been pushed out and it’s a newfangled shopping mall type place with a shopping mall food court and I believe a fucking Star Bucks IIRC! Most of the history has been wiped out. I suppose for political awareness reasons. But before it because completely commercialized a majority of the stalls were run by black people, Geechee women made (extremely over priced) sweetwater baskets. Artists of all different sorts of locals, local foods….

The last time I went I felt all the charm of The Holy City had been washed out of the market and replaced by Any Mall USA.

Kathryn needs help, clearly she is still delusional and I feel bad for those poor kids. They have zero choice in this matter and neither K nor T are fit to raise children. That’s sad to me. Shep is an idiot. Why does Austins tongue always make an appearance? Is it that big or what? Also, I googled when that festival was and it was March 4 – 8 of this year. I was already freaked out about this thing by then. Didn’t they know about it yet? I’m trying to remember when shit hit the fan in the entire country. Why is Patricia so invested in Madison? It’s a bit creepy as was that dog painting and as is John Pringle. Shivers…..

As a Northerner, l was shocked by the systemic racism in Charleston when l spent a week there in the ‘90s. I am not saying there isn’t racism in the north, but it was very different. Little Black Sambo dolls were being sold in tourist places. I was traveling alone so l had the opportunity to chat with locals one on one. I observed that Blacks and whites worked together but they did not socialize. They didn’t eat in the same restaurants and they didn’t go to the same bars. So, yeah, racist. And your language in your post smacks of it too, just a smidge.

Gigi I started realizing how bad it was going to be the week of March 9 and spent about four days stocking up on water and food and tomato plants and was fully sheltering in place on Friday the13th. But only went to the grocery (stores) that week. I’ve only left the house for groceries and a dental appointment since, barring one visit with my sister a couple of weekends ago. And we pretty much social distanced the whole time except for a hug coming and going. Mostly because o how her living room is set up. She has a huge L shaped couch and each end has sort of a chaise part. One is “her spot” and the other was the easiest place for me to have space to set up my laptop.

I remember it was around March 13th (Friday also) where it really started getting serious in TN. That was Spring Break for Univ. of TN and they told the students to go home and stay there and went online and it was a similar situation for the colleges in South Carolina. I had been at a work conference in St. Louis that week and had gone to Kroger to get goceries and it was bedlam in the store. We werent wearing masks at that point because they were telling us there was a shortage and that the Medical community needed them. The Casinos in Missouri closed at the end of March and I was sent home on Paid Admin leave until June 1st. So I think what they are showing on Southern Charm is accurate for those of us in the South.

I’m in New Jersey and even here COVID things didn’t really start happening that early in March so I don’t think the festival was a known issue. I picked one kid up from college on March 13 and the other kid had his stuff cancelled starting March 18th. I’m positive on the dates.
Our region was the first on the hot mess express so I highly doubt it was on anyone’s radar in Charleston then.

This show absolutely needed some diversity. She is a wonderful addition (so far). And, she’s best friends with Cam and therefore knows the “circle” of people already, so it’s a natural fit (not a fake “plant” strictly for the sake of adding diversity).

Have you guys seen that Cameron has written a book? It is a collection of essays. It comes across as very tone deaf to me. If your mom fail is making Hamburger Helper for dinner, then I don’t think you can relate to most moms in America. And there are thousands of mom blogs that say the same exact thing that are free.

I saw it. It seems like an “advice” book. Cameran has a lot of fans. But the book is very tone deaf and preachy sounding.

I don’t think Kathryn has any common sense. What makes her think Thomas would choose her when he “sleeps around” and impregnates women while with her? Does she forget the hell he has outback her through?

Another thought…Craig looks bad to me this season. Liquor and poor sleep have aged him. Shep has aged too! Playboys to the end!

The funny thing is Craig is actually starting to look better, but still rough. Yeah he started drinking a lot when he broke up with his nasty bit of a girl friend. and I felt sorry for him then because she was frankly nasty and mean as hell towards him. I really did not like that woman, so her leaving the show did not in any way bother me. I was like f’n A, thank god, C ya later, no, not really, bye.

I almost feel sorry for her for what she’s going to get with her new lover, but not that much after how she treated Craig.

Frankly Craig is the life of the show and has been for a while. I hope he does well for himself.

It was really painfull watching Pringle and Shep flirting with those young women in the bar. I hope they watch it and cringe. I know I thought it was disgusting.

I sort of like Pringle because he’s got kids and he’s likable, but I have to agree that was cringe worthy, and he’s not entirely unlike that disgusting piece of shit Shep. And the thing is while I do like him, I’m cringing for the moment he goes full on Shep which I’m pretty sure may just happen given how much he drinks on screen.

Pringle is a mess when he’s drunk. He’s going to show himself if he keeps getting drunk.

Whatever camera was used this season was much much less flattering. No Vaseline filter? Everyone looks several years older, and terrible, this season. Probably why Chelsea and Naomi quit.

Whitney is like an extra with a lot of camera time this season. He barely says a word. I guess he needs a paycheck? WTF else does he do?

I don’t mind him so much. He seems affable, but want to seem Californian. We all need a paycheck. Of all the train wreck men on this show, I would choose to hang with him- he is articulate, mostly respectful others, and wears a moto jacket well. Although he shagged K- can we jut refer to her as the town pump?

I have been thinking the same thing, and I’m just happy the man has so few words. I find him creepy and loathsome so quiet him appeals to me. Now if only they would stop showing him at all and make me really happy.

Oh hi new person! We know his “credentials.” The show is about to be cancelled. He knows that as well as I do. At the very least this is Haymakers last year of production. But I’d bet dollars to donuts this is the last season. Bravo is over Haymaker.

I just get the impression that Madison and Austin aren’t really together……it’s just for the filming of the show. And that Pringle angle is ridiculous. She is shooting way above them both. And Kathryn has never looked worse. She has been wearing those funny rubber looking pants for two seasons now and they look weird on her wide ass . How many more women named Taylor and Madison can be in Charleston???? Have they run out of names?

The entire cast looks ragged. And fat. Before you go to town, I’m pretty fat these days.I live in the Midwest where the name “Ravenal” has as much importance as “Olson” Yuck- who would sleep with him, much less choose to have a child with him? So gross!!!

During production, I heard that Madison and Austen were fighting like cats and dogs and not all of it was on camera. So I think the impending breakup is pretty legit.

The thing is this is not a couple I would have expected, but I have seen more disperse match ups than this. I wanted to believe in their relationship, but the homework scene with her child came off more friend than boyfriend/lover so I really don’t know.

I was thinking of not watching this season. All of these comments are making me laugh yet are also concerning me at the same time. Now I have to watch! Dammit. Yeah, as if I have something better to do. Round three of home organization frenzy left me exhausted and angry when hubby put junk back in places just like a hoarder on that hoarder show.

Am I the only one who feels that Pringle and Whitney have the same mannerisms and speech? I noticed during Pringle’s talking head about his kids.
