After a surprise extra few weeks of quarantining, Decision Day is rapidly approaching. So let’s do a quick MAFS recap as I wait for my voting chair to arrive. The couples have been together for 15 weeks due to the pandemic. This is longer than any of the couples have quarantined on any season, almost double the usual eight weeks. This episode, the couples visit their friends and family for advice. Brett and Olivia tell their friends they have called it quits.
Christina & Henry
We begin tonight with scenes of the couples loading up the car and heading back to NOLA. In every car except this one, people are rocking out to music. These two were riding in complete silence. Henry is totally fed up with Christina’s lies. The lie about the gay affair seems to have been the final straw for him. Christina goes to meet with a male friend who I first thought was his father. Then, I thought he was a random friend casting. But he does seem to know Christina is needy and annoying. Henry’s friend seems to know this is not a match. She says Christina is a liar and he needs to get out of the marriage.

Henry tells us that Christina is threatening him with the text that probably doesn’t even exist about the gay thing. She is psycho. If I were advising him I’d tell him to bail TODAY and not wait for decision day. He says that this behavior from Christina is “despicable.” And he is right. Their final dinner together is at a fancy restaurant where they seem to be the only patrons due to Covid. Christina just blathers on about herself while Henry tries to enjoy the fabulous food. She then asks Henry to tell her “some of the stuff he admires about her.” He says that she writes really well and she cries. She is the most self-centered person in the world. Henry struggles not to laugh. Back at the apartment, Christina wonders if they just need more time. Henry is counting the minutes until this fresh hell is over.
Amani & Woody
Woody seems concerned that Amani may not really be all in on decision day. She makes way too many jokes about that. Amani talks to her friend Nikole about her emotions leading up to the big day. Amani feels very confident going into decision day. Nikole is happy to hear that Amani and Woody both express their love for each other. Woody goes to get advice from his grandmother. He tells her that he is ready to be married. She’s happy. She can tell he is happier and calmer around Amani. She advises him to be sure to pay attention and respect Amani.

Seeing all of this New Orleans food is making me so hungry! But I want what they are having and not what is in the fridge. I had planned to do a big shop today but I am not sure I have it in me. I also think I missed my window to vote today. The lines are super long again at the moment. These two go out to dinner and they are just so cute together. Woody tells us he has found his soulmate. He gets emotional telling Amani how deeply he feels about her. He can’t see a future without her. These two might be the only couple that works out. Then they argue because Woody says that if she decides to get a divorce, he might flip out and just walk out. This has happened a couple of times in the past when people are blindsided. Amani needs to stop playing.
Amelia & Bennett
Back at that house, Amelia is also making jokes about her upcoming decision. Bennett goes to get advice from his friend about decision day. His friend is not very support of the relationship. He thinks they have just been playing house for four months. Also, they haven’t had to go though any difficult things. His friend is kind of an asshole. Amelia seeks her advice from an online tarot reader. Because, Amelia. Things start off well until the talk about the move to Virginia. The witch says there is a lot of fear and anxiety surrounding that. She starts giving her some advice, and the connection is lost. Amelia had some crazy dreams where Bennett turned into a giant cucumber. Not sure what that means. Do people still do acid?

Bennett and Amelia’s last dinner before packing up was some sort of bizarre pizza party that apparently requited Amelia to wear an enormous crown on her head with a giant orange on top. Bennett explains that the crown and orange were from a play. So, um that makes sense? As they reflect back on their experience, Amelia drops a huge bomb. She says that she really didn’t think she was ready to be married but she really thought it would be fun to be on a reality show. WTF? Then she makes it worse saying she usually likes most people and figured she would probably like whoever she got matched with. OMG. She is also not reading Bennett’s body language through any of this. The party is over.
When the go to the bed for the last time Amelia says, “This could be the last night they ever sleep together.” I feel like Bennett may say no now. WOW!
Karen & Miles
The nervous jokes about decision day continue in this apartment as well. Miles goes to chat with his friend. He says that quarantine was hard and Karen was exhausted physically and emotionally from her job at the hospital. Miles is still unsure of his decision. They are not in love. And the lack of intimacy is an issue for him. It’s been four months! Karen checks off all his boxes. But it feels like more than friends than a marriage. Karen goes to get advice from her friends. She tells them that she is not affectionate like he is. This is a major problem. These two are not a great match. Obviously. The friends like Miles. They also think she needs an alpha male and that is not Miles.

Karen is a great cook so they stay in for one last homecooked meal. Karen says that she needs Miles to step up and be the man of the house, put her in her place, and be her protector. Miles feels he is that person. Miles wants a woman who claims him as her man. He wants more affection. Miles is not sure that Karen can get to a place where she can be emotionally vulnerable with him. I feel like Miles may decide to divorce. They both might. Why is Karen the one leaving the apartment when every other couple the man left the house?
So what do you guys think? Next Wednesday is decision day. It is also the two hour finale for Big Brother. The Amazing Race and RHOC are also airing. And I have no idea how I am going to fit all of that in. So it may take a bit for this recap once again. But I am very excited for decision day!
Amelia’s dream was about Bennett not fitting in with her Doctor friends. Remember when Dr. Schwartz said something to her about being to agreeable? Add that to the fact that while he’s met the friends she grew up with not her Med School friends, and I’m wondering if Amelia isn’t really looking to get divorced at the end?
Karen just makes no sense to me. She wants to be submissive in marriage, but has been anything but, and she and her friends use being a strong woman as an excuse for why she’s just not an affectionate person. Any chance she’s already in a relationship with someone else and that’s why she won’t allow herself to get close physically and mentally to Miles? Maybe not, but she’s a very contradictory person. Miles needs to move on.
I don’t think Amelia fits in with the other med school students either. Plus, she is finished with that school and off to Richmond for her residency. I think she should like the idea of having kooky Bennett with her in Virginia.
That said, her sudden revelation that she just wanted to be on a reality show was JAW DROPPIING. And I can’t actually see her asking for a divorce. Or for Bennett to ask for one at this point.
PS I VOTED! (so glad I don’t have to stress about that anymore.)
Thank goodness for your recap. I fast forwarded through the couples I just couldn’t stand to watch. At least I now know what I missed, which isn’t much apparently. Christina and Henry’s last dinner was too excruciating for me to watch, and Karen and Miles was just too boring – the equivalent of white line fever. I think K&M may be getting the same edit as Deonna and Greg. Deonna, these days, is nothing like the cold, aloof, prudish marm that we saw on her season. She’s cute, funny, engaging, warm, and obviously loves Greg. I only hope the same is true for Karen, after this season concludes.
As far as I see it, this episode could have been skipped entirely. We learned nothing new. In my opinion, there were two apparent “stars”: Christina’s friend and the Tarot Witch. I feel like I’ve seen Christina’s friend before. He had no need to utter words. His expressions said everything. Is he a central casting standby? I can totally see Christina not having any friends, so they might have had to find one for her. That is a sad thought. She may need psychological intervention. Some say she’s a narcissist, but I’ve never known one to be friendless and alone.
Next season, I hope the shows breaks away from its formula casting and contrived dynamics. It used to bill itself as a “social experiment”, but I haven’t heard too much of that this go around. Maybe it has abandoned all pretext and is leaning into being one of the best shitshows on the planet.
For D Day, there is only one contender for a last minute confession of love, and that’s Karen. I doubt it. In the previews, they tried to steer our expectation of Amani’s decision, and it was a cheap effort.
I agree that Karen and Miles remind me of Deonna and Greg! I hope they turn out as well as D&G did!
Amelia is such a disappointment! She was so self absorbed she didn’t notice she was breaking poor Bennett. I don’t understand why Henry has chosen to stay in the same apartment as the bunny boiler Christina. She’s scary. She’s got nothing on him fly Henry fly away to safety. I feel sorry for Miles. Karen says she wants a man to take charge and put her in her place but she had a fit when he put sex on the calendar. Girl please you are a dominate and want a submissive man to get to boogey man and then go away. Last but not least Woody and Amani. I am truly hoping Amani doesn’t break his heart. She needs to stop being coy with him. In the previews it sounded like she said she wanted a divorce. I choked on my damn wine. I hope she’s not trying to play with him because she might regret it. That’s not funny! Thank you for the recap TT!!! I’ve been dying to get it!!
WOW! Thanks for that recap cuz I also forwarded thru some of it. Henry needs to get the hell out of dodge ASAP. Bunny Boiler indeed that Christine. She’s beyond scary. Her threats of outing him? What’s with that now? First Sandy on Malia and now this witch? I don’t even find her attractive. As much as people say Henry is on the spectrum, I don’t think so. He just didn’t like her from the get go. Who could? Amani and Woody seem like a good fit. Karen and Miles? Something is up with her. Seems like she’s hiding something. Miles seems so nice and he’s hot, at least to me. And now for my diatribe on that Amelia. All the Look At Me stuff at her wedding with the unicycle and bird nest on her head. I knew then she just has this need to be noticed. Must have some deep rooted issues of being ignored or abandoned as a child. Her stupid outfits and her mouth always hanging open. Always! Shut your stupid mouth already. Honest to God everything about her bugs me. And now her WTF statement about doing this to be on a reality show? Once again (and I said this a month ago) if she walked into a waiting room as my Dr. I’d leave. I seriously hope she’s a better Dr. than she is who she is portraying herself to be on this reality show she was just dying to be on making a mockery out of Bennett.
I do not understand Karen wanting someone to “put her in her place” on any level. Miles wants a partner, not a child. What grown person wants someone telling them what to do? I can’t believe she would enjoy it if she got what she is asking for.
Agree! She wants to be dominated but only if she says it’s ok. The Me-Tarzan type of guy is into fulfilling his own needs and wouldn’t think about her beyond her role in doing that. Here she has Miles kneeling at her feet, ready to give her everything, and she can say no to him?
I think she confuses falling hard for someone as being dominated. I think she would prefer if their dynamics were reversed, and she was the one kneeling, trying to prove herself to someone who isn’t really interested.
I remember a few years back being so excited to see next weeks episode, and the last couple of years I usually forget it’s even on. I wish it was back on FYI, but alas I cannot live in the past with this show.
Henry, poor guy has suffered long enough. I guess you have to be as horrible as Molly to get kicked off this show in essence. Even if she did blackmail him, why would we as the audience believe this idiot. So annoyed with this.
Miles and that woman, please she is so tiring what more does he need to do to prove himself when she finds his penis worthy of her vagina. Yep we got an Iris without the V-card, woopee!!
Amani and Woody, please work, you two would make cute babies and are fun to watch.
Getting kinda tired of the odd couple, now listen they are super cute, but frankly I’m just tired of living in the clouds. Lol will she end up like Brawnwyn’s mom when she hits a midlife crisis.
And seriously we dont need a recap from Brett and Olivia. He pulled the plug, he did the right thing. Put a pin in it lifetime!
