I almost did this MAFS recap at three in the morning but ran out of steam. Especially since it is a two hour show. Let’s see how these couples are doing once the mandated lockdown is over. The were locked down for six weeks on top of the scheduled eight weeks. This has of course never happened before and being quarantined alone together has taken it’s toll on all of the couples. Brett finally had enough of Olivia and took his stuff and went back to his house. I can’t say as I blame him. He didn’t sign up for all of this. With only two weeks before the new decision day, the couple go to a retreat to check in with each other.
Olivia & Brett
At the end of last weeks episode we saw Brett take his stuff and leave. It looked like he just took a couple of dufflebags. But, Olivia is on the phone with someone complaining he took most of the food. Before he left he made it very clear he does not want to be married to Olivia. Amani comes over to help Olivia pack. She has decided to go home too. I guess these two won’t be going on the retreat. It was sweet of Amani to film with her though. I think Olivia will find her match. It’s just not Brett.
Christina & Henry
Henry is another groom who has definitely had enough of his bride, Christina. And yet, he says he is not ready to give up. It seems that Christina is the one who has lost all hope. Woody comes over to talk to Henry. Apparently, about three weeks prior, Christina accused Henry of being gay after one of her male friends called her to tell her he was sleeping with Henry. Henry denies this. Because of things that make me think Henry is on the spectrum, my gaydar isn’t working with him. Henry says that Christina’s feelings are hurt because he called her dishonest (and she looks like a bitch to production) so she is trying to make him look like the bad guy.

Since Christina made the accusations, Christina hasn’t been at the apartment much at all. Henry said that his feelings about Christina’s dishonesty all came to a head with the gay accusations. These two pack for the retreat without speaking. Christina admits that Henry is not gay and that she threw the accusation toward him out of anger. But then she says he just sees her as this lying person. Because she LIES! She seems clueless about how awful and self-centered she is. She is trying to backtrack her behavior and spin it. Henry says she was unable to produce the text from his alleged lover
Karen & Miles
Poor Miles is still hoping for some progression in his marriage, especially when it comes to intimacy. Karen says she is “too exhausted” in quarantine to give Miles the attention he needs. What in the world is she doing to tire herself out so? Karen is not really excited about the couples retreat. She is preoccupied with more important things like the pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement. On the other hand unplugging from the world at the cabins might be a healthy break for her.
Amelia & Bennett
Amelia and Bennett are falling more and more in love every day while in quarantine. This is the best match ever in the history of MAFS. Bennett says he wants to split his time between Richmond and NOLA. I think when he gets to Richmond, he might like it more than expects. You must watch this episode all the way to the end for Bennett, lullaby to Amelia.
Amani & Woody
Amani had finally told Woody she loves him. She tells us she could not have asked for a better partner. These two are a perfect match. But, when they get to the cabins Amani shares with us that she is nervous about commitment day and not 100% sure she will say yes. Ut, Oh
Couples’ Retreat
The couples start with a round of shots. It seems that Woody and Miles took charge of the kitchen. Karen made some sort of fantastic dish. Christina wastes no time demeaning Henry to the group. He gracefully compliments the chefs. She dismisses him by saying, “he’s a lean pocket person.” Has she ever sad a kind word to this man? Then they move on to Brett and Olivia. People says supportive things and then Once again, Christina’s contribution was that she knew that Brett was here for the wrong reasons from the beginning and that he was an asshole. That might of been true, but Olivia was no angel. Then Christina cries because she wanted Olivia there.

Woody’s reaction to Christina’s me me me me comments was priceless. He tells us she needs to worry about her problems. Bennett randomly throws out that he and Amelia have sex. Everyone laughs. Miles brings up that he has been struggling with all of the illegal and unwarranted killings of black men. It’s been weighing on him a lot. Miles sad he really didn’t want to come. He doesn’t want to feel like he has to be on and engage with others when clearly his heart is hurting. I just want to give Miles a hug. Shut the fuck up Christina. Henry smirks at her declaration that she is so happy to be there. Because, lies.
The Next Day
The food this crew is making is in sane. Breakfast was pancakes and waffles and bacon and eggs and just a ton of food. I need to hang out with these people! Amelia and Bennett are still in their cabin where Bennett is trying to show off is dance moves with “the worm.” It’s hysterical and it also gives the others time to talk about them. Most people are happy that they are so in love and being intimate. But Christina says she could never relocate for her husband unless it was a job. A job for HER of course. The look on Amani’s face says it all.

Then Amani tries to get Henry to open up and seems pissed that he doesn’t want to. He basically says it has been rough but he is committed to seeing the experiment through. Then they ask Christina for her thoughts. She says some crap and then says she is hopeful the retreat will help her relationship. Woody calls her out on that. You know that Woody filled Amani in on the gay text rumor the minute he got home.
Playdates
Karen and Miles go off to play ladder golf. Both of these two are extremely competitive and things like this don’t always end well for them. Once again, Karen smokes him. They discuss decision day. Miles asks her what she needs. She says more open and sincere conversations. These two seem like they could go either way. Karen still gives him ZERO physical affection. And for that reason I see her asking for a divorce. Miles talks toe Woody at the retreat about the total lack of intimacy. Miles has lost twenty pounds trying to work out his sexual tension. Miles is so cute. He says he doesn’t see sex happening before decision day and that will make his choice difficult.

Amani and Woody play dominos for sexual favors. Woody talks about how he feels about their relationship compared to others. He says they worked through a lot of things the other couples have not. Amani says she got lucky being matched with Woody. Woody asks if anything could change her mind on decision day. She said if she lost her trust in him. He says if she goes back to not being sure that would do it for him. He said something about communication and “him not getting it.” She didn’t care for that answer.
Amelia is a KILLER basketball player and beats the pants of Bennett at horse.
Letters To Their Former Selves
Amelia shares a sweet letter to her former self giving her a bit of life advice and ending with advising her to say yes to Married At First Sight. Then, Bennett reads his letter and it is all about a first edition pokeman card he had as a kid that is now extremely valuable. His advice to his younger self was not to let the friend borrow the card. Amelia is disappointed that the letter wasn’t about their romance at all.

Christina’s letter was very Christina. She cried about people being mean to her in anger and told her to be careful who she invests her time in. Wah, wah. Henry’s letter was about setting reasonable expectations, living in the moment, and trusting his intuition. Ha! Christina said Henry’s letter was very Henry. Later, Christina talks to the girls and Henry talks to the guys. Christina seems to be lying to the girls and tells them she is at a “better place” with Henry. Henry tells the guys that Christina is dishonest and he just wants to enjoy the retreat.
Stranger Spouse
It’s the last night in the house and they are playing “stranger spouse.” It’s sort of like The Newlywed Game where each couple gets the chance to ask the other four couples a question. The spouse write their answers on a board to see if they really know each other. Woody is sure they will win. Miles and Karen won. But oddly, Christina and Henry did very well too. Amelia and Bennett came in last and this seemed to bother Bennett a little bit.
I fully understand Miles’ depression about the goings on in the country, and have had a hard time being “on” myself, and now I really don’t get why Karen is having a hard time dealing with his issues. She just is determined not to be attracted to him and at this point, should just end it.
She acted like he threatened to rape her when he mentioned sex, then we he backs off, he’s not manly enough? No way this marriage gets passed decision day.
I couldn’t wait for your recap. Doesn’t disappoint!
The only things I have to say about Karen and Miles may offend some people but I’m saying them anyway. I love Miles, too, and I think maybe Karen operates from fear, distrust in the process, and is unsure what Mile’s real intentions are. She might have trust issues and is afraid the show would be over if she disrobes her spirit for him. That’s what sex and intimacy are for her, and she realizes that Miles might be more instinct driven. I think she might be waiting for the cameras to leave. I dare say if she were to trust fall into his arms, just one time, we would see a very different Karen. He might rock her world so hard that her face would be sideways the next morning. Just give into it, Karen! He’ll set it free. Miles wants what Woody has and he isn’t going anywhere. The four of them would be a great quad pocket.
Christina disses Henry because she is trying to get people on her side and convince them see things her way. Henry suffered her company just for the opportunity to hang out with the group at the retreat. He likes them and he is very open and social with them, so I’m not so sure he falls on the spectrum. I am not surprised they scored so well in the spouses game. Henry indeed knows Christina, had her number from the get go, has learned he was right, and he is confident in his dislike for her.
I can understand Amelia’s hurt feelings because Bennett didn’t include her in the letter. She is all about Bennett and so in love it’s magical. Bennett is more pragmatic. To him, they exist as a couple and it’s a great ride. He is more concerned about warning his younger self away from mistakes. It’s telling that he sees the Pokémon card thing as his biggest mistake so far, so it should be a relief he didn’t mention her. There’s nothing about Amelia to warn against. That goes for anything leading up to marrying her. He sees it all as positive experience. I’d warn Big Amelia to not invest everything in herself to the marriage and to Bennett. She still has a residency to complete, she has her music to make, she still has everything that makes her, her. She should continue developing those other parts of Amelia and give them energy. Especially the medical training. Loving Bennett will be the easiest slice of her life. If she begins losing Bennett because she is paying some attention to other parts her life, then it’s Bennett that needs to lean in more, not her. I think he will appreciate her more for staying true to herself and not getting lost in him.
Did this episode seem more scripted than usual to anyone else?
Yes and no. They always script the couples retreats. They of course sent Amani to whats her faces place and so Amani to Henry, They had to have a way to close out that couple. They have to script it all for us to know what is happening,
Karen is a hospital administrator in New Orleans which is why the pandemic was exhausting her.
This episode was boring to me. maybe we need to get to decision day and then call it a day? I still find Bennet and Amelia trying to hard to be different which I think is for the cameras but not casting a good like on amelia as a future doctor. Not sure i’d trust her. Sorry people. Christina is a disgusting person. Me me me, 100%. Poor Henry, he should be glad she hasn’t jumped his bones by now and then screams that he attacked her for attention. Bye girl. Go away. Olivia and Brett? Bye. Amani and Woody I like and Miles needs to find a mate that appreciates a sensitive male. There is nothing wrong with him. She’s wound like a top. Great recap TT!
Christina is horrible and downright mean. I don’t know why it’s so important for Wioody to feel like he has the best relationship out of all the couples. Miles is just way to sensitive for me. I know what Karen means. He’s kind of whiney and soft.
The manly man she thinks she wants would have bolted after she freaked out over the meer mention of sex, and definitely wouldn’t be sleeping in the same bed every night for four months.
I’m feeling so sorry for Miles. I just want to shake Karen…better yet let me shove her out of my way I’ll take Miles! I have my fingers crossed for Woody, Amani, Bennett and Amelia. They all seem to be perfectly matched. I hope Henry meets someone who will appreciate him and love him for who he is. Christina well what can I say that hasn’t been said…her pants have got to be on fire and I hope her ass gets blistered! I didn’t like Brett but for some reason I really didn’t like Olivia so good riddance. Great recap TT! BTW being off the Bravo tit is amazing!
*nods* I really hope Miles ends up with someone like you who appreciates him. Karen doesn’t know a good thing when it’s there in her hand. Silly girl. There is a long queue already just waiting for her discard. Miles is the kind of man so many women dream of. I hope she listens to what everyone is saying. Her beauty might not last forever, and after another one of those players done done her dirty again, she will remember Miles’ warmth, earnest attraction and open arms. It’s hard to find twice, that’s how rare.
I’m way too old for Miles but I would snatch him up in a heartbeat if I could.
Christina crying over Olivia’s absence and failed marriage was ridiculous. I don’t think anyone at that table believed her. She’s an attention seeker and it all circled back to her knowing about Brett from the get go. It’s always about her. I like Henry and have continued to like him the entire season. He just doesn’t like Christina. He had no problem with speaking up and looking everyone else in the eyes. Being w Christina alone must be torture for him. When Christina started reading the letter to her younger self, you could see Henry beginning to twitch. Shit I started twitching too!
I don’t think Brett is/was a F*ck boy like Christina said. His behavior at the bachelor party was terrible but I do think he tried to care for Olivia a tiny bit. They are two people with very different core values. Brett was a sarcastic dick but Olivia was a rigid snob who seemed to look down on Brett once she found out how much money he makes. Oil and water. I didn’t like the Olivia and Amani bash Brett session either. Everyone is letting Olivia’s behavior slide by. Olivia was just mad bc Brett left first which is the ultimate last word, lol.
People are trashing Karen all over the internet and social media. I feel bad for her about that. But her behavior toward Miles is no longer tolerable. They’ve been together for months at this point and there is no chemistry between them, none. He is no longer a stranger. Bad edits aren’t responsible for this one. I do think they are going to stay married on decision day. Karen is going to give in a little bc she doesn’t want to miss out on a good thing. But she’s really not attracted to him and will keep him begging like a puppy for attention their entire marriage. Eventually, he’ll get tired and have a baby with someone else. Zing.
The ZING! made me smile on a day that there haven’t many reasons to. 🙂
