Amazing Race Recap Season 32: The Starting Line

October 14, 2020 by tamaratattles 16 Comments

Amazing Race RecapY’all I am so excited to do this Amazing Race Recap! It’s brand new season and it looks amazing as usual! We all get to go on a virtual vacation! That’s something, right? Luckily this was all filmed before COVID. It will be a long time before Season 33.

This season begins at the Hollywood Bowl! This looks like a great diverse group. TAR does a fantastic job of casting. Everyone is immediately racing to Trinidad! How exciting is that? And I love the theme music for this show I’ve watched so long (every single season) that it is a very soothing sound to me. Apparently, there wasn’t any travel drama at LAX because we get right to touching down in Trinidad. Everyone runs out of the airport together but some get taxis faster than others. I am already in love with father and son team Jerry and Frank. I do sense heartbreak ahead though. We have two sister teams. Michelle and Victoria who identify as Cajun Asians. Kaylynn and Haley are blond sisters who moved out of their parents house at age 16 and 15.

Amazing Race RecapThe First Challenge!

Teams take a taxi to the 24 hour fruit market and get two steel barrels and roll them down the street to a Saturday night street party. There they must find the one guy out of all the costumes that has their clue for their next steps. The first seven teams will have an advantage. Hung and Chee are the married parents of this season. Hung, the mom, is very small and struggles to roll her barrel. Also the sidewalks are very crooked and uneven. Riley and Maddison are two male volleyball players who seem really fit and they are struggling because their backpacks are super heavy. Will and James are currently in the middle of the pack. They are the requisite gay team. So of course, I’m a fan. #faghag

Aparna and Eswar are this season’s brother and sister team and apparently idiots who do not realize they are in a race. The brother thought it was best to “hold back” and let the pack go lest they trip or something. They are currently in last place. They are both “really smart” and have watched the show forever. I’m guessing just book smart.

Riley and Maddison Volleyball players

It’s Carnival!

Oh! It’s Carnival in Trinidad! How exciting! DeAngelo and Gary are the NFL players and are super fit. They are first to get the clue. They are on the first flight out the next morning at 7:40 with the next six teams. Hopefully, that means they get to party in Trinidad all night. YAY Jerry and Frank are in second place! Riley and Maddison are third. Hung and Chee are fourth. Best friends Nathan and Cody are fifth. Michelle and Victoria are sixth. Will and James round out the first flight. Everyone else is on the second flight which is SCHEDULED to leave 30 minutes later at 8:10 am. These puddle jumpers are notoriously off schedule though. Aparna and Eswar were the last to complete the challenge. But hey! At least they didn’t sprain an ankle.

Off they go on the prop planes for the 25 minute puddle jump to Tobago. I’m writing too much and getting behind, and I have RHOOC at 10:30! And I am not at all set up for that! ARGH! The volleyball guys, Riley and Maddison are brothers (possibly twins?) who grew up in Honululu and played professionally in Greece. The first challenge in Tobogo means swimming around where 100 or so wooden fishes are hanging, find the one that matches the fish in their boat memorize the code on it AND THE COLOR PATTERN and use the code to unlock a lock. Tobago is so pretty and only a five hour flight from the ATL. My first trip after quarantine?

Going Fishing

The first seven teams are already in the water by the time the second plane lands. But Hung and Chee didn’t realize they needed to memorize the color patterns so they are just trying their code on every fish. Oh No! Jerry and Frank have their color pattern but not their combination! I don’t want these two to go first. They are going back for their combo.  Yay! The footballers go back because they forgot their color pattern. The last four teams arrive. One of those teams is Kelly and Lavonne they are both former Olympic athletes in hurdles (2012). They are currently in last place.

Michelle and Victoria, the Cajun Asians are the first to get their fish! Riley and Maddison were next. They head by boat to the next roadblock where they have have play a short bit of the DAYO! song on steel drums. I think I could have done all the tasks on this episode. That’s rare for me. Usually I am saying NO WAY! Kelly and Lavone are the last ones swimming with the fishes. They can’t find their fish. 🙁 I always feel sorry for the first team to leave. One of the Cajun Asians, Michelle,  went first on the drums and screwed up. Then Chee went and got it in one. This means a land war in virtual Asia. The Michelle is pissed. She keeps bitching about being second instead of first.

Come, Mister Tally Man, Tally Me Banana

But there is still a goat race! Y’all. I think I have found my country! I like everything about this place! Michelle fucked up the goat rack two and Hung and Chee come in first place. The drums are still holding everyone up. I love Jerry and Frank so much! Team eyeglasses killed it in one. The NFLers are tanking. The black footballer chose the white footballer to do this challenge and he is in agony over his lack of rhythm lol. YAY! They got it! Then Kellie and Lavonne got theirs. Best friends Nathan and Cody are the last to complete the drums. And we are off to the goat races.

These goats run fast and hard. Wait why to the footballers have a single engine boat when the others have two? I love my footballers. It’s down to them and the two best friend guys. They come in 10th The best friends got eliminated. This was a GREAT EPISODE! CAN’T WAIT FOR NEXT WEEK! Off to recap RHOOC

I love the Amazing Race! I have watched every since the beginning. It is the only show my kids knew to never bother me during.

So apparently, I’m not going to Trinidad or Tobago…

    Apparently it is very dangerous.

I’ve been to Curacao twice after watching The Bachelor (no lie) and it was lovely but I was detained in Miami for three hours as a suspected drug trafficker coming home. Keep your hotel receipts and remember the name of your hotel under duress. It was VERY scary. Apparently women can’t travel alone for their birthday WHICH WAS ON MY PASSPORT and I used to do EVERY YEAR!

Holy shit, I would freak out if I was detained by a foreign country!!
        Scary would be an understatement!

This was a great start, and there are quite a few teams I really like so far.

But man, I am old….Watching them run thru that carnival with all that noise….I don’t think I could take that! Especially not if I was trying to figure something out.

hi citizen of trinidad and tobago here what you have linked is grossly exaggerated and inaccurate in terms of safety for tourist. the islands are vastly different with Trinidad being more urban and Tobago having idyllic, resort nature feel (Tobago reported ten murders in 2019, nine in 2018, and 13 in 2017.) (https://www.osac.gov/Country/TrinidadTobago/Content/Detail/Report/e71edbe1-3d87-4d1f-989d-18900d4002c6#:~:text=Tobago%20reported%20ten%20murders%20in,and%20Venezuela%20occurred%20in%202019.) this link has a more balanced and realistic outlook than the site you linked. you can rightly skip Trinidad and head straight for Tobago for that vacay and know that you are safe and had a great time

Thanks for the info! I’d love to go anywhere at this point. It’s not particularly safe in the US…

see you as soon as time allows?

This is one of my absolute favorite shows! I didn’t realize it was going to be on again so I was excited to find it by accident last night. I’m rarely jealous of people with money, but when I watch this show I wish that I had the funds to travel wherever I wanted, whenever I wanted. My dream is to go to Australia and New Zealand, but the idea of sitting in an airplane seat for 20 plus hours makes that trip impossible. Now if I could afford business class tickets where I’d have a “bed” to sleep in, that would make the traveling part much more feasible, but the cost makes that one fantasy that will likely never be fulfilled. I have found a resort in Crete that caters to single travelers only though, with no kids or families to ruin the experience, lol, and no pricey “single supplement” either! I’m looking forward to possibly spending a week or two there once this damn virus finally goes away and we can resume living again. I need to find something similar for Iceland because seeing the northern lights is something I seriously need to do before I die.

Oooooh what is the name of the resort in Crete? My only concern is it sounds like a meat market…

A friend of mine went to Australia when he was dating a flight attendant. (She wasn’t even that young, but cute and tiny and had always wanted to try it)

They ended up getting upgraded to FIRST CLASS for free both trips! I’m not sure they even paid much initially. Pretty sure the girlfriend made sure to use her work ID and suitcase.

I too may need the name of the resort in Crete.

I have watched this show VERY sporadically because I worked nights (never saw a first-run Seinfeld or Friends) for years with no DVR. I am actually excited about a reality show after reading this!

Tobago sounds like my kind of place. I don’t care if it’s dangerous. Those kind of things don’t scare me (even when they should). Scary things don’t scare me. I get scared — to paraphrase a line from Drugstore Cowboy — by “the thought of having to get up and tie your shoes in the morning.“ Randomly, out of nowhere, a panic attack over something banal. I wish I could have been on production with Bourdain.

BUT EVEN BETTER, Season 11 is on Prime, so I can watch my beloved “Beekman Boys,” Josh and Brett. If you haven’t tried their goat milk soap, TRY IT NOW! Best soap ever!

I loved it so much when that lady slid onto the finish mat and almost took that guy out!

The goat race was hysterical. After Hung wiped out and hit her head they suddenly started to tell them to let go of the goat after they crossed the line and before the mat.

    OK, I am in!

I think I missed a season or two of Amazing Race – they kept moving it.

But as Josh Gates wasn’t new on Wednesday, we watched Amazing Race. Loved it again!!!

If the Olympic Team women had failed though, I would have totally bailed. My heart was breaking for her. I have a friend with dyslexia – I did not want it to be the reason she got the boot.
