90 Day Fiance The Other Way Recap: Ready Or Not

October 11, 2020 by tamaratattles 29 Comments

OMG You guys! TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT! We finally get back to 90 Day Fiance recaps! I can’t wait to see Armando and Kenny and Sumit and Jenny and everyone else! We left for hiatus at the peak of drama and tonight hopefully we get some answers!

Britanny & Yazan

I am totally confused about why we are starting off in Chicago of all places until I remember that Brittany is in Chicago visiting her mother and trying to get divorced. Brittany’s mother tells us everything we needed to know about how Brittany became Brittany. I am pretty sure that Brittany did convert to Islam. Not sure if they got married or not. I want to say that they spilt up but she is still practicing Islam. At her mother’s house the mother and daughter bond over cheap white wine with a screw top. I’m all about cheap merlot with a screw top (or a box) but white wine needs to be a bit pricier. Am I the only one who has washed her hands so many times a day that I have no fingerprints left?

Brittany’s mom says that Yazan should accept Brittany for who she is twerking social media stuff and all. Yeah, that doesn’t work in the Muslim world. I started this recap with the first look and it just showed Brittany in Chicago and then gave me 20 minutes of Family Chantel. So now I will start with the real show. Meanwhile in Ethiopia, Yazan is missing his woman. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Brittany goes to court and basically nothing happened and she has to reapply for her divorce. She has to stay in the US longer to do that. She’s going to have to stall with Yazan.

90 Day Fiance The Other Way RecapJenny & Sumit

We last left off with Sumit going to tell his parents he wants to marry Jenny as soon as possible. He is scared to death. His parents are dead set against his marriage. HIs mother says right away she will never accept Jenny. Then, his father says that Sumit’s mother and father are going to need help in their old age and Jenny will be even old. How will he choose who to care for? His mama cries and tries to guilt trip him. There there was a lot of arguing over the arranged marriage they forced him into. He was miserable in the marriage and never stopped loving Jenny. He tells them that they are more concerned with what society will think than his own happiness. This is not going well. He told them three times that he wanted to commit suicide while in the arranged marriage. Now everyone is crying. Eventually. the parents agree to think about it.

Jenny and Sumit go out for dinner and he downloads her on his meeting with his parents.  He tells her the grim reality and that is they are never going to support their relationship. It’s so weird to me that his parents can block them getting married. Jenny doesn’t seem to get it either. But facts are facts. Sumit is kind of adorable.

90 Day Fiance The Other Way
Cutest Couple EVER.

Kenny & Armando

I was literally cleaning out from under my fingernails during the Brittany stuff and NOW IT IS TIME FOR ARMANDO AND KENNY! I have waited forever for them to get to Armando’s family camp! WOW! I still cannot believe that Kenny has not learned any Spanish at all in all the years he has known Armando. These two talk in the car about how things might go. Both of them are nervous. Armando feels like Kenny is pressuring him to tell his family they are engaged on the first day. Can we please just get there? I have a feeling that will not happen this week.

They arrive under the cover of darkness. It’s Christmas time, and they passed a few decorations. Kenny is freaked out because there are a lot of people waiting to greet them. A LOT OF PEOPLE. Baby girl Hannah rushes up to hug both of them. His mother is struggling to see her son with a man. Kenny seriously knows “hola” and “mucho gusto”. Hell I know more Spanish than that without even trying to learn Spanish. We have so many Mexicans in my area that for a brief moment in time my Publix was ENTIRELY IN SPANISH. It was very helpful for learning the language, but also quite annoying. They eventually went back to English. Because, AMERIKA! His dad is refusing to come out of his room. I feel like this episode should have been two hours of just these two.

90 Day The Other Way RecapThe Big Announcement

Finally, Armando Sr comes out and hugs and kisses his son. Kenny does the awkward “mucho gusto” with a handshake. Then Armando Sr goes right back to his room. He is not having any of this. Oh wow. Armando tells the huge group of friends and family (minus his hibernating dad) that they are engaged to be married. It went over like a lead balloon. His mom was shocked that the told the whole family at once instead of telling her first. I can see that. This is a lot to process for this family. Hopefully, they will come around to the understanding that love is love. His mother doesn’t want to tell his father.

The campfire breaks up with everyone feeling a bit sad. Kenny is disappointed that their relationship is not accepted. Armando asks his mother if it is okay that he and Kenny are staying at the family site.  She says she didn’t ask his father but it is fine. They hug it out with Armando’s mom and she tells him to tell Kenny he is welcome here and welcome to the family! Awwww! Kenny is upset that Armando Sr did not care for him at all. Kenny needs a haircut. The top of his head is all Donald Trumpish.

90 Day Fiance The Other Way RecapAri & Bini

Meanwhile in Ethiopia, a baby should be coming very soon. She is due in six weeks and has already been in Ethiopia for a month. They are moving into a walk up apartment. It’s a very basic apartment. At least they have running water and a functioning kitchen. Sort of. Ari really misses her mother. I can’t believe her parents are flying over to be there for the birth of the baby. She keeps sending her mother lists of things to bring when she comes. Like a bassinet for example. What a PITA this kid is. I am moving to Ethiopia and you are going to have to visit often and bring lots of gifts. Ari bitches about having to pay for everything. Then she complains about Bini working too much. UGH.

These two try to buy a car. The prices for an old clunker are $17-20K! It’s insane. When I was looking into retiring in Costa Rica and Ururguay I found the same thing to be true. I really should pay to ship my 2007 Honda Civic with only  25K miles on it with me when I go. And yes, you read that correctly. My Civic that I bought new in 2007 only has 25K miles on it. I am the proverbial little old lady from Pasadena who doesn’t even got to church. And part of the miles is a long trip to Tunica, Mississippi. And a few trips to Biloxi. I used to gamble a lot. lol. Then we find out the baby is breech.  And we also learn that America is the only country who does a billion C sections on everyone. No other country does that. She needs a C section TODAY! And she is freaking out because her mama is not there.

Tim AKA “Cheesestick”

Cheesestick

I am pretty sure we don’t care about Cheesestick. Can I fast forward through this nonsense? We have way more important things to discuss than these two. Apparently Melyza also had some dalliances of her own. Again. Who cares.

I love this show. Did you watch?

I watched! They’re all train wrecks. It boggles my mind that Kenny knows no Spanish. He doesn’t seem very bright, or worldly, at all. I do love Armando. I thought it was encouraging that the father came out to meet Kenny at all, but it obviously wasn’t good enough for Kenny, who wanted to walk into fantasyland. I’m running out of patience with him. So glad this show is back!

I agree re Kenny! It’s all about him and his expectations of Armando’s family liking him, being excited the pair is engaged, ect.

As I listened to Kenny whining, I wondered does he stop and think how nerve racking it is for Armando to tell his entire family he’s engaged to a man not knowing how they would react?!

He couldn’t appreciate the fact that Armando’s father came out to see his son, and say hello to him ~ Kenny. I find Kenny selfish and lacking compassion for all Armando is going through to be with him.

I feel sorry for Jenny, I think she’ll have to return to the U.S because Sumit didn’t sound as if he’ll be marrying her unless he has his parents blessings; and I doubt that’ll happen before her visa expires.

Ari need to pack her bags and return home because it’s crystal clear Bini can’t afford to care for her, and a baby even with five jobs.

I can’t believe he wanted her to purchase a car at those ridiculous prices and he’s not even contributing. And how can he stay home the first month after the baby is born if she wants him to provide for them as a family?! Go home Ari!

As for the others with their secrets and lies, it’s a wrap!

I am wondering if this more a financial bind, there are bride prices and even a kind of payment due to families who had their daughters divorced in certain cultures. Sumits parents mention 20K for the divorce…

I think the 20K is to repay Sumit’s wife’s family for the dowry they paid.

Exactly so if that is the case it gives insight to why he is seeking their approval as it may actually cause them problems (in courts or what not) to go ahead.

Armando and his sister (who acts as Hannah’s mother) speak AMAZINGLY perfect English. But they have never taught it to Hannah?! And THAT’S why they can’t emigrate to the US… because Hannah can’t speak English and it would be difficult for her? This makes ABSOLUTELY no sense.

Armando mentioned that he didn’t want to take Hannah from her family ( I assume her maternal side). The maternal side would Probably not be too happy if their daughter’s gay ex husband tries to take their grandchild to a foreign country. In a very conservative country like Mexico, it may be difficult for him to unilaterally decide to obtain a visa for her to leave the country and live with his same sex partner. IDK just assuming (from the previews) that Mexico is very conservative as it still does not recognize gay marriage.

I don’t know the answer, but how many countries do recognize gay marriage? I assume not many. Armando must have spent time in the US; he has no accent and speaks perfect English. Do we know how and where they met?

Deb, I was wondering the same thing! We don’t have those background details as far as I know. Kenny is a diva. Nice but still self focused. I feel sorry for his poor little dog. It just sits on the back seat on a towel trying to get comfy. Put a dog bed back there, is that so hard?

Ari doubles down on her cluelessness by wanting Biniyam to have paternity leave. LOL. Even in countries that offer it, I don’t know that he has the type of job that would give paternity leave. What does he do besides music? I felt bad for her having to have the C-section that day. But how can this girl possibly be in her late 20’s when she acts like such a teenager? Of course Brittney could give Ari a run for her money in cluelessness about other countries and cultures.

Tamara: Great recap and I KNEW you meant Jordan for Yazan so Sam can suck it…..

Kenny – I really liked him but jeez….. I agree about not knowing Spanish – not too hard to work on and his expectations were all based around him at Armando’s house – not cool at all!

So it sounds like some are divided on Ari and Bini….. yes the car was a lot of money but they needed it and if she has the money… he’s willing to work multiple jobs to care for her and baby and SHE is the one wanting him to stay home because she doesn’t want to be alone. As someone who has moved many times not knowing anyone, I will never understand how these people move and then can’t be alone…… figure it out! Explore! Work on the house…. I just don’t get it……

    GREAT job recapping as always!!!!

This whole episode all I could think was Ari thinks she’s a princess & the amount she whines is annoying. I don’t know how Kenny doesn’t know any Spanish yet. I really hopes it works out for the 2 of them. Hopefully, it works out for Sumit & Jenny as well. TLC is killing me by putting Angela on pillow talk…almost as bad as when they had chantel’s mom & brother on it.

Thanks for the awesome recap, TT!

Can Jenny find a way to stay in India without being married to Sumit? Then they should do that. It’s not like they’re having kids.

Brittany: STILL a lying liar who lies. Poor Yazan of Jordan— this girl is going to cause so much anguish for him and his family.

Was any one else relieved that Armando’s dad did not shoot Kenny??? Knowing many traditional Mexican men, I think Armando’s dad showed great restraint. I still can’t believe that Armando would want to live there. They should bring Hannah to America— they’d be a lot safer and Hannah would learn English in about 15 minutes.

Ari’s mom and dad should just come pick her up and take her home. They are postponing the inevitable. I’m sorry she’s facing a c-section in a country where they don’t do them very much. I had a c-section once when one of my twins was breech. It was actually pretty easy, and WAY better than having tears sewn up! Poor Bini. He means well, but he picked a high-Maintenance girl who’s not good at adulting.

Much like Sinjan and what’s her name, Ari and Bini were in a lust bubble. And then reality set in. I don’t blame her for wanting hot water and a working bathroom. I do blame her for not being at all realistic about what living in Ethiopia would be like. Bini cut his hair and she is no longer attracted to him. Oy.

This was a GRREEEAAAT episode! Sumit’s conversation with his parents was probably the most real, raw, and authentic we’ve seen across the franchise. At least in recent seasons. I’m hopeful his parents get out of their son’s way, if the pressure has made him suicidal, continuing to apply it is not worth losing his life.

That gathering at Armando’s was rough! It was brutal to get through. Though I can appreciate ripping the bandaid off with the engagement announcement, did he need to make it so dramatic for an already tough crowd? Hopefully this is really the depth of the low with his family and its only upward from here.

I’m not looking forward to seeing more of Deavan & Jihoon. Nor Tim and Melissa. Is anyone rooting for either couple at this point?

Ariela is simple miserable and nothing will ever truly please her! She’s unprepared, unrealistic, and hyper unreasonable. How did he ever get it up for her, its a wonder! Though I can understand be frightened over needing to deliver early, her ignorance about vreeched babies and just hoping it would turn over time, when there is barely and fluid AND the baby isn’t moving…she clearly has not done even basic pregnancy education for even American standards. Absolutely ridiculous and ignorant, I’m surprised she hasn’t found a way to blame Bini or Ethiopia for this…yet.

Who’s left? Oh, Yazan and Britney’s 5 stages of melting faces. Over them too! As frustrating as it is to deal with government admins messing your paperwork up, she should have done this years ago so AND with a lawyer, so I don’t have much sympathy for the situation. She’s foolish and another unrealistic and unreasonable person.

Brittany has five melting faces? I was going to say she is a pretty girl who would be prettier if she could just move her face. I mean beyond the wide perma grimace that I think is supposed to be a smile.

I am so not into Deavan and Jihoon. I will fast forward through their parts. I’m not into witnessing emotional abuse. She is a horrible mother and blames Jihoon for her own failures.

Same goes for Tim Cheesestick. It’s just ick! I don’t care about either of them. Get back together. Split up. It’s all the same! I don’t care!

I can’t feel sorry for people that go to underdeveloped countries then don’t cope with the conditions. They have to know what they’re in for.

Brittany and her mum were drinking awful cheap Australian wine. I’m ashamed that people think that’s what we drink. Surely this is a completely fake relationship.

Kenny needs to learn Spanish. I started out liking him but now I’m getting irritated. Ari is insufferable. She must be so spoiled. I would feel bad for her if she wasn’t so stupid. That guy is never going to make her happy. Not sure anyone can but her mom. Summit and Jenny? Move to the US. He needs to get away from his parents but the whole cultural thing, I imagine, is hard to break. Thank god I live here. Brittany is an idiot. In Chicago, going to court in torn jeans? Really? Moron. I don’t even remember the others but can I just say that these people all seem to have deep issues? And we watch them and laugh? I’m sorry, but this show is such a car crash I can’t look away. Please get Angela off Pillow Talk. She is so gross. Leave Tim and Vernonica on….
