I am way behind on MAFS recaps. I’ve been sleeping A LOT lately and the sleep schedule is no schedule. I sleep a few hours then wake up for an hour or two then sleep a few more hours. Lather, rinse, repeat. The first two hours will be about sexual intimacy. And in the second two hour episode, Covid quarantine begins. We start on day 25 of marriage.
Karen & Miles
These two seem to be more comfortable around each other. Then the sex therapist comes for the talk. Miles talks about his feelings all the time and Karen doesn’t like to talk about her feelings. Miles is ready for more intimacy. Karen is not that into it. The therapist suggests that they agree not to have intercourse and just do whatever they are comfortable with.
Karen and Miles go out to dinner with Woody and Amani. Karen and Miles are thinking of fostering a dog. Woody is irritated about it because he doesn’t want a dog. I do think fostering a dog would be a good option for Woody and Amani though. On Karen and Miles anniversary, Miles gives Karen a box with a few little gifts with a Black Love theme. They seem happy on their anniversary despite being a bit behind some others in the intimacy department. They read each other their vows again.
Olivia & Brett
The therapist comes to visit these two and Brett’s sarcastic comments continue to annoy Olivia. Lots of things annoy Olivia and Brett is quite annoying? This two have no intimacy of any kind. They are not a match at all. Later these two argue about Brett’s “sarcastic face.” Olivia and Brett have a virtual counseling session with Pastor Cal at Olivia’s request. Olivia says that off camera Brett is a lot nicer and less sarcastic than on camera Brett. But she still feels like he is putting on a different face for the camera. Olivia says she just wants to wants to know Brett is there for the right reasons. Pastor Cal says that they must trust each other.
Olivia never shuts up and “shares her feelings” all the time. Pick your battles girl! They are rather affectionate at times though. On their anniversary, they watch footage of their wedding. It seems to make them hopeful.
Christina & Henry
I feel like these two are going to hate this meeting with the sex therapist. Basically, the therapist suggests that they not keep each other in the friend zone. Christina wants to have sex now. Henry seems terrified by the prospect of any physical intimacy. Henry opens up to Christina about his insecurities. He says he was a fat kid that got made fun of as a child. Christina basically tells Henry that he needs to just get over the childhood trauma. She’s such a bitch. Then when Henry asks what her biggest deal breaker is, she says, “lack of confidence.” This is minutes after he just poured his heart out about his lack of confidence.
Christina talks to a male friend about her marriage. The girl who values confidence so much whines because Bennett doesn’t give her compliments. These two look through their photo albums on their anniversary. Christina seems to take passive aggressive jabs at him. They order in takeout and have a picnic on the floor.
Amelia & Bennett
Amelia is about to be assigned her residency. I really hope she gets to stay in NOLA. These two don’t really do much with the therapist. They just do face to face hugs telling each other positive affirmations. As usual, it is really cute. The next day, Bennett goes to lunch with his sister, Molly. Also present at the table is Yoop, a giant duck stuffed animal. Molly gives Bennett a tarot card reading showing that they are soulmates. Because, of course. Molly is even weirder that Bennett. Amelia talks to one of her friends about Bennett.
These two go for a hike in the woods to celebrate their one month anniversary. Bennett confesses to Amelia that he loves her. She loves him too! Bennett gives Amelia a giant blender and tiny jaw harp for their anniversary. Amelia wrote Bennett a song. It was adorable, she can really sing. Then, they go through their wedding photos and video. They read each other their quirky vows.
Amani & Woody
These two have the most sexual relationship. They talk about things that they turn each other on. Woody likes being heard. Amani likes small gestures of affection. Then they talk about their favorite sexual positions. Woody shares about his lack of relationship with his father. Amani says he has two new dads now. Later, Amani and Woody argue about getting a dog. Woody is against it. Amani seems hell bent on getting one. Amani and Woody’s intimacy work goes great. The budgeting meeting shows that Woody likes to spend money.
Speaking of spending money. Woody buys a fancy bangle for Amani for their one month anniversary. I feel like that was not in the budget. Since Covid has begun, they have a romantic dinner at home on their anniversary. Production sends them a basket with their wedding album. Woody tells Amani he loves her. It appears he actually bought diamond earrings and not the bracelet. He also gave her coupons for things like a foot massage and sex. I like these two together.
The Group Bartending Class
Everybody goes to take a group bartending class. They begin by learning how to make a gin fizz. Olivia and Brett start bickering immediately. Olivia wants a couples counseling session with Pastor Cal. Bennett and Henry have a couple drinks alone. Henry talks to Bennett about them being on different wavelengths. Henry tells him about the self-confidence jabs. Bennett gives Henry some great advice about self-reflection. He’d make a good therapist. Later back at Christina and Henry’s apartment, Christina continues to needle Henry about his lack of confidence.
Next Time: It looks like the quarantine is taking toll on pretty much everyone and Amelia was assigned to a hospital in Richmond.
