I Don’t Get The Breonna Taylor Case

September 24, 2020 by tamaratattles 372 Comments

I need you guys not to castrate me for this. This is how I see it. Breonna was dating a drug dealer. Or Some kind of criminal. So the cops exercised a no knock warrant  I do not think think that should even be a thing} and her boyfriend shot first a the cops thinking they were intruders. So the boyfriend thought he was being attacked and shot at the guys. BECAUSE WHO DOES THIS?

Sadly, Breonna went out there to STAND BY HER MAN!  I would have done the same thing in her situation. THAT SAID, you just don’t run into gunfire.  I mean I would for my boyfriend, but…she is dating shady people. The cops were there to get her boyfriend. She is not blameless in this. She had a shitty boyfriend.

This is my opinion. What am I missing here?  I get that she was killed in her own house but what I need you guys to explain is why this chick with a drug dealer boyfriend is so important.

Oh and Ben Crump is the worst person in the world.

So don’t scream at me, make me understand.

The officers knocked and announced before entering with force, this was witnessed. Breonna and BF were standing together (not the safe move) and BF shot one of the two officers. Officers fired back. Officer outside also fired but hit apt 3 rather than Breonna’s apt 4. That is what he was indicted for.

I watched every second of the AGs press conference and every Q&A. I then went to twitter to see what was being said. Unreal how pieces and parts were left out or turned around, all to incite more violence.

Is it sad that a woman made some unfortunate choices in her life and ultimately died because of those choices? Yes, of course that’s sad. Blaming police for defending themselves and inciting riots across the country is not going to help Black lives in any way.

Two police officers were shot by rioters in Louisville. Now LeBron James says he will post bail for any people who got arrested Is just disgusting.

That’s what happens when Twitter folk don’t watch the unedited news conference in its entirety before they comment.

You do know the boyfriend in the apartment was not the one on the warrant. So according to you the young lady deserved to die because she dated a drug dealer at one time. And I can guarantee that Lebron has had his own negative experiences with the police as almost all black men have. Ask some black third grade school boys sometimes about their experiences with the police and I think you would be shocked. They know way more than they should and it is not because of what people tell them. It is because of what they have seen and experienced. It tends to shape your views and when it continues because people find ways to justify it, it gets extremely frustrating.

She was receiving drug packages at her residence on behalf of her drug dealer ex, as I understand it. And this was a multiple location/multiple subject gang takedown, so police will do simultaneous entries to protect officers and prevent the destruction of evidence.

So the search warrant for her residence was warranted, based on ongoing criminal activity.

There is NO evidence Breonna was receiving drug packages for her ex-boyfriend. The narcotics team went to the postmaster general to ask if suspicious packages were being delivered to Breonna Taylor’s home, the postmaster general said NO.

I would like to add a couple of more important points. Breonna Taylor was not under investigation. Breonna Taylor was never suspected of selling drugs to anyone. Breonna Taylor was never suspected of possessing drugs. The team that entered Breonna Taylor’s home that night was NOT a trained SWAT team, it was three narcotics officers in street clothes. The police claimed they knocked and announced themselves, Kenneth Walker, who was with her did not hear them announce and 16 neighbors, did not hear the police announce themselves.

The search warrant was for the location. It isn’t specific to the individual whose name is on the lease. Lots of criminals split time between their mother’s home and a girlfriend’s, for one example, yet the police can have sufficient probable cause to search if contraband is known to have entered the house.

Walker is on a jail tape admitting that there was a bang and police yelling before he fired the first shot. He also talked about using Breonna’s apartment for receiving hold holding drugs and money. Her ex also received drug packages there. This was a long investigation prior to the raid. Breonna wasn’t an innocent victim. She was fired from her EMT job after a body was discovered in the trunk of a car rented under her name. You hang out with criminals, you receive packages for criminals, you handle their money and you’re a part of their criminal activity then there’s consequences for that.

PixnTrix, Please site where you got the information regarding Kenneth Walker stating he and Breonna used the apartment for hold drugs and drug money.

The postmaster general has gone on record stating Breonna Taylor was NOT receiving suspicious packages at her apartment. The police used this unsupported claim to obtain an illegal search warrant.

              SuzyJane;

Breonna Taylor was involved in Glover’s drug dealing since 2016. The compiled evidence consists of phone records, video footage, recorded phone calls, and A dead body even being found in her car within this time frame— an associate drug dealer of her ex who she was still working with. The warrant had HER house address and HER car HER NAME and HER social security number on it. She was involved and had been. Read the redacted report. Facts matter

VHunt, Absolutely, facts matter. The police were not investigating Breonna Taylor. Breonna Taylor was not being accused of any crime. The warrant was obtained with false information. Enough! with the victim blaming.

Walker was her NEW boyfriend and not the old (3 months?) drug dealer … he couldn’t hear the police officers voices (TV too loud?) … fired a warning shot & police shot back … Breana was a bystander
the old boyfriend used her car multiple times , used a phone in her name & had postal services delivering packages at her house … thats why they got the warrant … and they knocked on the door … civilian witnesses
Very infortunate accident with multiple mistakes! RIP Breana

Sorry but there is tons of evidence. Also she was not an emt. She was let go for after 4 months of training. She also had a dead drug dealer found in the trunk of her rental car. She was neck deep in the drug game. There r multiple taped jailhouse phone calls implicating her. Her name was on the warrant plus she is on film leaving the drug house with packages multiple times. Her boyfriend also made her walk in front of him who does that if they think they r being broken into

Actually, if you actually looked into it, her ex boyfriend while in jail used the phone that was tapped and admitted that both Breonna and her current bf were apart of the drug dealing. He’s the one who said she was receiving packages, and they were then brought to the trap house, that her car was seen going to on multiple occasions. The reason they didn’t find anything was because the packages were already taken to the trap house.

            • Drea says

              September 30, 2020 at 2:31 pm

She was a suspect or she wouldn’t of been on the warrant. She was suspected because of her ex bfs phone call while he was in jail. You can try and spew the leftist narrative but the facts are the facts, and claiming otherwise doesn’t change those facts. They have a witness that suggests otherwise.

As for the simultaneous entries? They apparently fucked up, because the dealer was already in custody when they went to her door. I”ve not confirmed that part yet.

Erica, This is one point that can be conceded to the police. I don’t remember the exact timeline but Glover was arrested only a short time before the police broke through Taylor’s door. Was there time to contact the other unit, yes, but understandable that it didn’t happen.

this is comprehensive… and provides the details and/or sources to all the questions and disputes above.

She is listed in the warrant, which means she is a person of interest. How that would unfold, would be found after an orderly entry and detainment of the parties at the location.

              Unfortunately, that did not happen.

Erica, the dealer did not need to be present. The warrant specifically states that the location and individuals in the location are of interest, as they may be aiding the dealer.

Walkers discharging his firearm was not a warning. It was directed at the individuals on the other side of the door. When you shoot a firearm at any individual, it is only common sense that they will likely return fire.

It’s in no way victim shaming. However we make choices in our lives. She made some wrong decisions in her life. Should it have cost her her life. No… However you can’t claim to be a victim of circumstances you yourself created. She knowing did those things and giving her the benefit of the doubt maybe she didn’t realize or didn’t want to see how deeply involved she was. We all do stupid things for men we claim to love.

No she wasn’t receiving any packages of drugs even the post master said she was not but you’re going to go on some bullshit that a police officer says to save his ass that’s what’s wrong with America today. They announce their selves one time only one person heard it and if they were dead asleep (Sadly no pun intended) they didn’t hear it. I they didn’t announce it more than that as they were busting down the door. And that has been proven by interviews with other neighbors.

Really? Her boyfriend called 911 – not a drug dealer move. The cops who were shot? The chickens are coming home to roost.

There are MAGA operatives disrupting the protests, though I do not agree with peaceful anything, due to racists wanting to exterminate black people. They did not knock, they were full of it, the cops do not care about black people, the white supremist has infiltrated the police department and military.

Now, we are supposed to care about those that want to destroy us? I think not – too many personal experiences to name regarding black, hardworking men and women being harrassed by the police.

Why do they put those who are afraid and hold no regard in our neighborhoods to police? They do not live among the people they are to assist.

Please do not start the black on black crime because the majority of whites are killed by whites. Besides, my taxes are not paid for criminals to police my community.

Look at the rallies? Who is packing these rallies? The “decent people”? Breonna was a decent person. It is not my role to educate any

But I will say that Lebron, as well as a handful of other celebrities, committed to paying the bail for The Minneapolis protestors who were arrested, at the time of the George Floyd stuff. This was end of May ma’am. You saying “now lebron says he will post bail for any people that got arrested…” is false. He is not posting bail for the cops who were shot by “rioters,” in LOUISVILLE! Get your timeline and facts straight and stop trying to blame an athlete for something he isn’t doing. Also, one person shot those cops, not a group of rioters. But I guess that’s what happens with dumb folk don’t research and just go off hearsay.

The police immediately knew they fucked up and what did they do? Coverup like always. From the police report that said she had zero injuries – to them “finding” one neighbor who said he heard the cops announce – but there were 12 others who said they didn’t say a word. There is a lot to unpack . I work in law enforcement so I will try . Firstly police were looking for an ex boyfriend not her current boyfriend. She hadn’t dated the guy in over a year . Secondly the warrant was inaccurately authorized . To authorize that type of warrant the ex and or suspected criminal activity should have occurred at that address within the past thirty days . Neither of those things occurred. Thirdly it was authorized asa no knock but police say they didn’t execute it as a inch . That claim is dubious as only one witness out of 12 says they heard police knock . And with the amount of officers involved it would have been a noisy affair had they announced themselves , conveniently no body cam footage is available to verify this claim . Furthermore the time of night the warrant was executed further suggests it was executes as a no knock as the entire premise is to catch people off guard before they have time to dispose of evidence . As an aside no drugs or evidence were discovered in her home and the ex boyfriend stated she was never involved in any illegal activity even when he was offered a plea deal to say otherwise . The current boyfriend is law abiding and had a legal weapon in his possession. Kentucky is a stand your ground state and he heard what he said were intruders . He yelled out asking who it was and got no answer. The next thing he heard was his door being broken down and people enter and he fired one shot . A shitload of police gunfire ensued from inside and outside the residence killing Breonna and endangering neighbors . She was shit six times but the fatal gullet cane from the one officer who was shot as which is why the grand jury didn’t indict him . People are outraged because two law abiding citizens were sleeping in their own home and one of them was killed . She had no criminal record and even if she did execution would not be the sentence . Dating and having enough sense to break up with a questionable boyfriend is not illegal and for black people this is proof that even being asleep in your own home you aren’t safe . The city knows it committed a series of blunders form the warrant authorization and lack of address verification, the violation of body cam policy, the excessive use of force and community endangerment which is why they settled for 12 million dollars. They didn’t pay that kind of money out because they were blameless. But it does nothing to bring back the life of a young EMT with a long life ahead of her

This is incorrect. She has only broken up with her ex 2 weeks ago. His bank account listed her address and his mail came to her apartment. Breonna Taylor rented the car the dead body was found in. I am from Louisville and have read the leaked information.

Mail can continue to come to an address for a year after one moves, and often longer once the change of address document lapses. Anyone who’s moved knows this is true.

Plus, I’ve been divorced for 20 yrs and my ex-husband’s brother used me as a credit reference without my knowledge. I only found out when the company was trying to collect on the debt. You’re believing what you want to believe. Just admit that and let the facts continue to fly right on past you.

Thank you Shawana for explaining what really happened in this case. It amazes me how some people still want to blame Breonna Taylor for her own death. At the end of the day when The Kentucky AG (who by the way is on tRump’s short list for the Supreme Court, and who worked for Mitch McConnell, and rumored to be recently married to his relative), stood before America and proved beyond a show of doubt that Black Lives Don’t Matter. The outrage over this murder is real and someday somehow justice will prevail.

Also, let’s process the coverup by the police that night. Seemingly, no one’s body cam worked. They initially told her mother the boyfriend killed her. Also, the ex-boyfriend reported that he was offered a lesser sentence to say he really was living there with her. The cover-up was enough for obstruction of justice charges along with perjury charges for ALL involved.

Thank you. As a Kentuckian who has been following this case for a while, you were the first commenter to get the facts right reading through this thread. Truly, thank you.

So many things have bothered me about this case from the beginning. If someone in plain clothes busted in my house after midnight, id likely react the exact same way as her boyfriend did. I mean, why else have the 2A if you can’t defend your home and your loved ones from intruders. Secondly, I could care less if she was on her front porch under a billboard that read “buy drugs here.” The cops are there to serve and protect, not serve as judge, jury and executioner. Part of being American is that we are afforded due process of law and presumption of innocence until found guilty, and Breonna got none of that, and it cost her her life. It’s a terribly sad case, and my heart breaks for her family, Louisville and our state. It was all completely avoidable, and yet, here we are.

I will only add a link to the very sad 9-1-1 call that Breonna’s boyfriend Kenneth Walker made after the police murdered her. It is heartbreaking, but what you hear is anguish and a cry for help (medical and police) because he doesn’t know who just broke into their apartment and shot up the place. Keep in mind that these “officers” were also in plain clothes.

I think the confusion is because people think her current boyfriend was the drug dealer. He’s not. He has no criminal record. It’s the ex-boyfriend that has the criminal record. He is the one that was already arrested and in jail 10 miles away. The other problem is that the police asked the post office if there have been any suspicious packages delivered and the answer was no. Then the neighbors corroborated that the police never announced their presence so no one would have known that were officers and would have shot at them for breaking in.

At this point, there has been so many instances of police acting inappropriately and never punished that local citizens do not trust or believe them. In cases where officers have reported peers that are acting inappropriately, they are usually fired for reporting the offense while the offending officer gets training.

As far as the looting, people that own nothing and have nothing to lose will not care about the property of people they perceive to have something, and they will not care about public, city owned property. They believe that this country is built on a lie.

Right! Kenneth Walker has no prior criminal record. I think everyone thinks she was currently dating a drug dealer because the warrant was for Jamarcus Glover (Taylor’s ex) and Adrian Walker (who unfortunately shares a very common last name with Taylor’s BF, Kenneth.)

She was back and forth between two men. The drug dealer ex was the target, not the boyfriend that fired a shot in self defense. The target was at a different property. They lied to obtain the no knock. They failed to do proper surveillance and thought she was alone. They were looking for cash the ex said she was holding for him but they didn’t find any. The entire raid was botched, and the boyfriend present was not a criminal and they didn’t know he was there(because they screwed up surveillance).

Kenneth Walker was Breonna Taylor’s Boyfriend. He is not a drug dealer & has no criminal record. Charges were even dropped against him for shooting the Officer. Her EX Boyfriend has a criminal history. Faulty info said he was getting drug packages sent to her home. This information & much more regarding this case is readily available & it’s said that people of color have to prove they aren’t at fault, even in death.

It’s like this: she was fired as an emt in 2017 and was mixed up with drug dealers. Her car and home were on the warrant. Boyfriend shot at front door while cops were knocking, They returned fire upon entering apartment. NOT a race thing. A criminal thing. However, this tinderbox of a country looks for any reason to explode… and so here we are. Soros pays protestors to protest. They don’t get paid if they don’t protest.

The drug dealer was not her boyfriend. He was another man she knew in her past. They had him under surveillance and knew HE DID NOT LIVE THERE. No drugs or money were found in the apartment. Of the 12 other people interviewed in the building, only 1 heard them yell police and he was already awake.

The police fudged their report, indicating Breanna was not injured. No one tended to her medically. In fact, they are supposed to have an ambulance on hand during a raid, but sent it away earlier. It was actually her boyfriend who called 911 and tended to Breanna. They showed no respect for human life.

Charlie, the Grand Jury voted not to indict the two police officers because of the way Kentucky law is written, police officers are legally allowed to return fire when fired. The law is written to protect police officers, even if they are at fault. The one police office that was charged was standing outside the building and was not under fire. The Grand Jury had no choice.

The grand juries mean nothing. They are with the prosecutors for days, going through various cases and build a rapport.
Remember O.J. – well he got off because, Cochran, being the intelligent lawyer, knew there was no way a jury composed of majority black women would send a black man to jail.
A jury of majority white folks in Kentucky would not send a bunch of white cops to jail.
Now, if black cops did this to a white girl, they would get 20 to life.

Besides, why are you people so worried about BLM? The minute we stand up for ourselves, you become engrossed while the FBI warned for years that police are cozy with the far right. White supremacist violence is the real threat to America.

Not the Taliban, not those poor Latin Americans they are killing and sterilizing.

It was not served as a no knock warrant. That was one of the many rumors that incited outrage.

That said, if you’re a drug dealer with loaded guns startled by someone pounding on the door then forcing their way in, you’re probably going to be paranoid and react before thinking about the words the person at the door said. So, I don’t think it would have changed things if police didn’t knocked and announce. But, they did.

Her death is tragic regardless of her involvement with criminals, but standing next to an armed wanted criminal while he’s shooting at police put her at risk. A lot of tumors and misinformation circulated that made people very angry. There was a rumor that she was shot while in bed. She wasn’t.

Tensions are so high right now and people are choosing their position immediately without having the full story. And no one wants to admit they were wrong or wrongly informed. On either side. In excessive force cases, there is always rioting regardless of the charges filed. It only creates a bigger divide and more tension.

That is why the charges were dropped against him for shooting the police officer. Now ask yourself if the police had really identified themselves as police, why were the charges dropped against the guy who shot at them. And I guess if you dated a criminal at one point, you deserve to have your door knocked down in the middle of the night especially when they already have arrested the guy they were looking for.

Kenneth Walker is a law-abiding citizen with all the legal paperwork to conceal carry and to defend his home in the State of Kentucky. He was not the drug dealer. There is no evidence that Breonna ever accepted or was part of her FORMER boyfriend’s drug dealing. Believe me…if there was evidence we would all know it. It wouldn’t be rumors spread by racists and cop apologists. It would be everywhere. And the fact that prosecutors tried to get Breonna’s ex-boyfriend to do a sleazy back-room deal whereupon he would say Breonna did accept packages for him and she was part of his dealing in exchange for a lighter sentence for him and the ex refused? Says a lot more about the drug dealing ex’s good character than the ethics of the prosecutor’s office! I cannot imagine how that ex is suffering for not going along with that plan because he is at the mercy of the very corrupt people responsible for Breonna’s death and who desperately wanted him to lie to help with their cover-up. The cover-up has worked. The only officer charged with anything will get off. He will be hired in LE down the road. No one within the system has one bit of remorse. Louisville Police will continue on their merry way and Black people will continue to live in fear 24/7/365.

Yeah, like stating that she was “standing next to an armed wanted criminal while he’s shooting at police put her at risk.”

Let me shout it in case you are hard of hearing.

HE WAS NOT A WANTED CRIMINAL. HE WAS NOT THE DRUG DEALER THEY WERE LOOKING FOR.

His 911 call was subpoena’d. Guess what? It corroborates his story that armed people busted into his home and he defended himself.

The warrant was stale. People in Law Enforcement have stated this HERE.

The officers are charged with endangering the NEIGHBORS with their gun fire, but not for her death.

Tamara, we are trying to explain that there is a difference between arrest warrants (for people) versus search warrants (for places and things, for seizing evidence). The residence and vehicle were alleged to have been instruments in the drug trade. I guess the police had evidence that packages had been delivered to that residence. I don’t know how many or how recently before the judge signed the warrant. I also don’t know why her vehicle was subject to the warrant.

But the police gather evidence to support the probable cause that evidence has been in those locations within the past XX number of days. And the judge reviews their application and can ask questions. These warrants have a judge’s signature on them. Taylor didn’t need to be named on the warrant.

My understanding is that they had a no knock warrant, but it was not served as a no knock. Per body cam evidence, they knocked and announced. This is pretty much the reason no knock exists. If they’d not given extra time to grab a weapon and start firing, maybe a life could have been saved. I know most people think the opposite though.

Cameron was full of shit at the press conference. His characterization of the raid was completely misleading, he intentionally mislead the public. In his story he blames Kenneth Walker, a law abiding man who is innocent, for the death of Breonna Taylor. Taylor’s attorney is hopping mad and demanding the evidence presented to the Grand Jury be released to the public. If Cameron feels confident about his statement, he should release all of the evidence.

This is a good article which does explain a lot. One main issue some people are finding hard to understand. The man who shot at police (current boyfriend) is not the same person who she was with previously and the person associated with the drugs. The ex-boyfriend has specifically said multiple times, she was not involved in his drug stuff.

Also, three officers that night were fired for putting lives in danger. Also, one shot 10 rounds into the home through blinds. He did not have the direct line of sight as required.

They had approval to do a no knock warrant but they didn’t do it, but “knocking “ , and asking to come in . It involves banging on the door and hollering “police ! Warrant !” Then busting in . The element of surprise is the important part. Unfortunately her friend had a gun ON him and shot at the police who identified them selves ! If they were at the wrong house (and they were not), and Breonna and her friend just sat there and cooperated this would not have happened. He thought drug dealers were trying to kill him . What the what ? So now it’s wrong if you shoot at the police they can’t shoot back . Not how that goes. Her associations got her killed , it is very sad. Unfortunately more police will die due to misinformation.

It was her ex-boyfriend that was the drug dealer, not the one she was with at the time of her death. The no-knock warrant was linked to the ex-boyfriend, who they already had in custody from another raid earlier in the evening at the time that they executed the warrant on her house.

I’m in Canada but this is what I’ve observed from our news coverage of the events: She broke up with the dealer boyfriend. She began another relationship. *Old* police surveillance had observed the first boyfriend collect a package from her address so the police thought she was involved in the drug-dealing. It was more likely that she’d told her ex some mail had been delivered to her place and he should come and get it. So her address was included on the list of places for the no-knock warrant. The police surveillance failed to notice he hadn’t been dating Breonna for months. At the time of the raid, the dealer ex-boyfriend was in police custody, but the police doing the raid didn’t know that. Kentucky is an open carry state so when the police did raid the apt in the middle of the night, her current boyfriend fired in self-defense thinking it might be her dealer ex trying to get in when it was the police (he claims the police did not identify themselves). Once she was shot, no medical attention was provided and she died due to her injuries. The police then tried to get the drug dealer ex-boyfriend, who was already in custody, to say she WAS involved in the drug dealing to lighten his charges, he did not agree to this, as she was never involved in his dealing.

You may recall my son being in law enforcement. He is on a special unit, and they do no knock warrants. Before executing warrants, they consider all aspects…is person gang affiliated, known to have guns, or are there children or other relatives in home, etc.

Her b/f was a criminal. No judge signs off on a warrant of the kind without weeks, or even months, of gathering intel.

With that being said, knock or no knock, officers are LOUDLY announcing that they are police. The b/f admitted opening fire first, striking one officer. All bets are off then. The shooting becomes justified.

The target was a long-ago ex who did not live there, nor had he ever lived there.

The “intel” gathered in this case was flimsy hearsay.

While the warrant was originally approved as a “no-knock”, it was CHANGED prior to the raid to “Knock and Announce”.

Ask your son what that means.

Cops shot 10 rounds from outside THROUGH BLINDS into the apartment. That is NEVER justified.

If you even listen to podcasts, The Daily had an episode just a couple weeks ago that broke the story down. There were two men she was dating on and off simultaneously. One was the drug dealer but she wasn’t directly involved in his shadiness and he wasn’t with her the night she was killed.
The other man (who was interviewed on the podcast and gave his account night from his point of view) wasn’t involved in any of the drug business at all.
According to him they fell asleep at her apartment after a night of making cookies and watching Netflix the night she was shot and killed by the cops. He sounded completely genuine, innocent and traumatized by the whole event in his telling of it.
Only one neighbor out of many interviewed said they heard the police Identify themselves before they entered Breona’s apartment and they heard them so so only once, which differs greatly from the police who say they identified themselves many times before entering.
It’s a layered complicated story (as most stories involving humans are) but in my opinion, the police fucked things up big time (again.)
Breonna may not have been “totally innocent” in many people’s minds because she was involved with a “bad guy” but from my own personal experience as someone who was once engaged to and living with a person who was involved with drugs and some shady people himself, I know I definitely don’t feel it would have been my fault or that I would have deserved it if cops came to my house looking for him, when he wasn’t even there, in the middle of the night! It may be easy and tempting for people to judge and condemn, but it’s not a crime to love a criminal.
Breonna and the other man were confused and terrified after being woken up to the noises of what sounded like to them, people breaking into the home.
Even after Breonna was shot, The boyfriend who was with her that night actually CALLED THE POLICE for help after Brenna was shot, bc he had no idea the police were there and in fact were the ones who’d just shot his girlfriend. The police absolutely made a bunch of mistakes in this case and did not perform their jobs with the caution and certainty they need to have to protect and serve.

Joolz has the best explanation from everything that I have read through since it happened. I understand how law enforcement COULD think that everyone was all entwined, but the boyfriend with her the night of the shooting (NOT INVOLVED WITH MULTIPLE MEN) has no record.

It SEEMS outdated, erroneous intel and a poor decision to raid at night started the clusterfuck.

It seems she changed her life around and a tragic mistake was made. EVEN IF the cops announced, ALMOST ANYONE awakened from sleep is going to experience some degree of confusion. Why the cops couldn’t wait to arrest them as they were leaving the apartment is a big fat mystery. There were no children inside in imminent danger. A full apartment house filled with (mostly) sleeping people put many lives in danger.

Being a cop is a job with enough danger, I never will understand just why it was decided to raid a home of anyone at night. It wasn’t like it was a crack house filled with felons 24/7.

I just read an interesting article after I googled “breonna Taylor’s ex boyfriend” That article talks about a recent rearrest of her ex and also of recorded jail phone conversations between her ex and her. I believe that article gives more insight to why police had a warrent for Ms. Taylor’s address. It doesnt excuse the excessive use of force and like you said the total CF of the time the warrant was served but it gives more info on the situation.

From what I read today, they did have a “no knock” warrant, but knocked on the door and announced they were the Police. The boyfriend, along with her were in the hall and the boyfriend shot at the first officer through the door. The others came in shooting. She apparently was in front of him. The only officer who was charged was the one whose bullets went into another apartment. I wonder if they had on body cameras, and when that will be released.

This Taken from CNN, On March 12, a Jefferson County Circuit Court judge approved five search warrants for locations linked to Taylor’s ex-boyfriend, a convicted felon suspected of supplying a local drug house. One of those locations belonged to Taylor. Hours later, in the early morning of March 13, officers arrived at Taylor’s apartment and began pounding on the door, an officer later told investigators.
Taylor was in bed with her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker III, who said he heard banging at the door just after midnight. Concerned there might be trouble, he grabbed his gun, which his attorney said he legally owns. They yelled to ask who was at the door but got no response, he said afterward. The officers used a battering ram to break in the door, and Walker then fired one shot at who he believed were intruders. Mattingly, who was first through the door, was shot in the leg. He and two other officers — Hankison and Cosgrove — then returned fire throughout the home.
Walker was unharmed, but Taylor was shot multiple times and died in the shooting.
“Somebody kicked in the door and shot my girlfriend,” Walker said in a 911 call.
Walker was taken away in handcuffs and a grand jury later indictment him on attempted murder of a police officer.
No drugs were found in the apartment. There is no police body camera footage of the incident. Kenneth Walker, who was licensed to carry a firearm and under the assumption someone was breaking into his apartment, fired first, injuring a law enforcement officer, whereupon police returned fire into the apartment with more than 20 rounds. Two months after the shooting, Taylor’s mother filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the officers involved, and prominent civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump joined the family’s legal team. To settle the suit, Louisville agreed in September to pay $12 million to Taylor’s family and enact several police reforms. The LMPD also said it would change how the department carries out search warrants in response to Taylor’s death. The Protesters are angry that no officers were charged with the death of Breonna, also claiming that they never said who they were, other witness heard them say POLICE. also family/protesters saying the shot inside house 20 rounds with no regard for human life, she was struck 5 times.. .

The sheriff’s deputy who died when 3 officers responded to a mass shorting in Thousand Oaks, CA was actually killed by friendly fire. The male CHP office had shot wildly in the direction of the firefight between the mass shooter and the deputy. So I’m not surprised. Law enforcement officers get a lot of training in firearms, defensive tactics and entering, but the training can’t simulate what it’s like to do this under fire.

You’ve told people who were less hostile in their approach than Beets to go fuck themselves yet she is the becoming the one that starts the shit and stirs it unchecked. I’m bearly hanging on in the clusterfuck that is DJT’s America and I cannot understand how you can not only condone her agitating remarks much less encourage her. I don’t think I’m alone in my thinking but I am respectfully sharing my opinion on this matter. It’s the provoking manner and relentlessness that is the problem as much as the content that is maddening. So please explain why WE should lay off HER. Just because she has a different opinion is a pass to be an asshole to the rest of us? I admittedly have given it back to her and have recently decided to not give her any more of my attention or energy. The idea that everyone in the PD, the FBI, the labs, etc. all got together to cover something up to protect the officers sure sounds like some tin foil hat conspiracy theory nonsense to me.

No need to apologize. You’re good. This is a contentious subject. I’m truly surprised at all of the misinformation being written here. The NY Times, and several other investigative stories, have laid the facts out. The current laws, in Kentucky and even Supreme Court rulings, make it extremely difficult to prosecute even the most egregious police misconduct. There is a long list of innocent people killed due to mistakes made during no-knock warrants. These warrants should only be used in the most egregious circumstances. The home should be a sanctuary. It makes no sense to barge into someone’s home for a simple drug charge, pick the suspect up on the street.

Google Rhogena Nicholas and Dennis Tuttle in Houston. There are many, many more.

She was asleep when she was fatally wounded, and if it can happen to her, it can happen to any Black person, and the police will never be held accountable for their actions. And a system that time and time again makes the actions of law enforcement acceptable, is a system that justice isn’t blind, but rather solely applies to the select few. That’s why we’re protesting. If we’re going to die anyway, we may as well go out fighting, not while sleeping.

Agreed. She was not the FIRST black woman to be killed in her own home while doing nothing wrong. Just as George Fliyd, Ahmaud Arberry ans Elijah Mccain were not the first. But, she is one of the matches to light a prominent and very important movement.

No one should be killed in their own home because police officers were neglient in performing their duties. Signed judicial warrant or not…they did not execute it legally, in my opinion.

Breonna’s MURDER is important because if she can be killed because of an ex-boyfriend’s criminal history..who is next? She was/is literally being persecuted by law enforcement and personnel because she is “guilty by association”.

She was shot to death because her current boyfriend legally fires a warning shot as law enforcement entered their home without warning.

Her murder has been in the news as well as all pending legalities.

To say you dont know…very disheartening. Especially as I dont usually see hot button issues on this page. As Karen said, if POC are being murdered so…blatantly…what the hell are we going to do about anybody or anything else?

And I hope you post about other killings of other black people and their lack of justice such as the lives mentioned above alongside Breonna.

If you have a moment, okay an hour, I highly recommend watching this show “New York Times Presents the Killing of Brenda Taylor” The show is on FX and Hulu. It’s season one, episode three. Here’s a link. I found it to be highly informative.

And all this back and forth is is just creating confusion and chaos.

            All by best TT

So because you may have dated a drug dealer at one time, it gives the police the right to knock down your door in the middle of the night? In that case every woman who may have dated a criminal at some point should be worried that the police decides to kick in your door.

Get the facts right first. She was calling the guy in jail and there’s evidence she had his stuff/packages. The warrant was for evidence about a drug dealer.

Even now, with all the info out there, these comments are still saying it was the wrong apartment, or he was a distant ex or whatever.

The protesters are angry that no police were charged for what they believe is reckless shooting, and how they feel it all went down killing innocent Black person. That the police never get charged with killing a black life. That the law we have make it almost impossible for a Police officer to be charged with these kind of actions…

Aside from your point about the no-knock warrant at o’dark thirty, there are a few things worth considering.
The police investigated themselves, which doesn’t offer much objectivity or confidence. The initial investigation had a number of inaccuracies, including a check mark that forced entry was not used and no officers were injured (one officer was injured).

Regardlesss of who Breonna Taylor was with or the company she kept, that shouldn’t justify her violent death by law enforcement. It was alleged that her boyfriend at the time, Kenneth Walker, was a drug dealer but that has not been proven and charges of attempted murder and assault, against him, were dropped. He shot once in defense of someone he did not know forcing their way into Taylor’s home, and KY does have a “Stand Your Ground Law”. There were also reports that an ex-boyfriend, Jamarcus Glover, had packages that were suspected of having illegal contents, delivered to Taylor’s home, but this was not true or found.

The investigation by the KY attorney general was an effort to determine whether criminal charges were warranted. With 1 of 3 officers charged for wanton endangerment, which does not involve Taylor’s death, essentially, it’s as if no one is held accountable for what happened. Supporters want to challenge the idea that actions by police should go unpunished by nature of their job. They also want to see a fair trial, without charges there’s no justice. Does this help clarify the disappointment?

From my understanding, she had previously dated the drug dealer. Her current boyfriend was not. As a matter of fact her X boyfriend had been taken into custody on the other side of town, almost the same time that they were crashing into her home.

It was a no-knock warrant. Her boyfriend had a right to fire as they did not announce who they were. He was using his right to “protect his castle” (stand your ground).

So clearly, there were errors made here, but the fact that there was an initial “cover-up” should give some pause ,why? I think that there is more to the story that we will never know. Maybe Breonna was a target of a “hit” or this was a plain ERROR on the part of the police and they won’t admit it,but will cover their arses.. Don’t know…..but the police response was not “normal” and the cover-up is suspect.

I think it is clear that Black people in this country are treated differently in situations as this. THERE IS NO QUESTION of this and until white people understand this and want change, there will be NO change in the system.

Maybe this will help you see where people are coming from-the only officer that was charged in this case was NOT charged with shooting Breanna. No one was. The officer was indicted for shooting recklessly into ANOTHER apartment. So, shooting a wall is a crime while shooting an innocent black woman is not. From my perspective, that devalues her life. That is how I see it.

Please give me a logical reason why the public is upset. I’m not buying into the no regard for human life, or that they didn’t provide immediate medical attention. i could be wrong, but I’ve read Breonna died almost immediately due to injuries. No amount of medical attention could have saved her.

If i’m a cop and i’m shot at while doing my job u better believe i’m shooting back!

Maybe if you were a cop you would do due diligence by making sure you knew who was in the home. This young lady was in her home and did nothing wrong. The police are in the wrong because they should never have been in the apartment in the first place. The guy they were looking for was already in custody and did not live there. The police should not be allowed to break down doors of any home they want to. So if a former drug dealer lived in an apartment you just moved into by police reasoning it would be okay to knock down your door and if you shot at them because you didn’t hear or they did not identify themselves, they would be justified in killing you and your loved ones. If it were your loved one, you would think 12 million dollars were not enough. The city and the cops knew they messed up. That is why that settlement was so big. Then read about all the lies the cops told. Why lie if you were in the right? That is why nothing changes. This is not the first time innocent people have been killed because of no knock warrants. Even children have been shot. Now what if kids had been in that apartment. Would they deserved to be killed?

“they should never have been in the apartment in the first place.” I’m not sure where you are getting this information, but it’s not correct. The warrant was for her apartment and her car, and she was targeted because she was associated with a criminal. They weren’t looking for a guy, they were looking for evidence in her apartment.

Maybe you need to go listen to the whole press conference? There seems to be a lot of misinformation in this whole comment section.

Hi, lawyer here. Please stop commenting when you are inaccurate. As any skilled prosecutor, the AG only included facts in the press conference which fit his narrative and justified his (in)actions.

While the warrant was valid, it was obtained with inaccurate information. The person they were looking for was incarcerated and since Ms. Taylor nor Mr. Walker were being accused of a crime or presented a threat to the public, then there was no immediate or urgent danger that necessitated executing a warrant at the residence at night.

IF they were looking for evidence the warrant would have specified what type of items they were looking for and guide where in the home they could look (if you’re looking for a stolen 52” tv you can’t open a small drawer). The warrant was obtained under false circumstances and poisoned the execution of the warrant. Thus, the police should be charged because their actions were illegal. And the officer who testified to the warrant provided false testimony-perjury.

Further, officers have a duty to render aid as first responders. Failing to provide Ms. Taylor with life saving aid after shooting her should have warranted additional charges and is also partially why the settlement was offered.

“obtained under false circumstances” “threat to the public” What on earth are you talking about? There is evidence that she was talking to the drug dealer in jail, she was getting his packages, she was romantically involved with him within weeks, and she had moved things in and out of a trap house. She rented the car someone was found dead in. This was an investigation that had gone on for years.

You don’t have to be a “threat to the public” to get a warrant for evidence. Lord, I’m glad you’re not my attorney.

Maybe you think all of that’s not enough for a warrant? That’s a whole different issue.

Everyone here is acting like a warrant means the drug dealer had to be there, which isn’t true. The warrant was for her apartment and for her car for evidence, because she did at least appear to be involved.

That’s unfortunate, sugar, because you probably need a good attorney.

Police cannot just get a warrant and enter people’s homes for evidence in the middle of the night, especially if there is no reason for urgency. In order to obtain a warrant that will be executed in the middle of the night there has to be existent circumstances. Something to indicate there is a threat to the public. Otherwise you are infringing upon people’s rights. The 4th amendment protects against unlawful search and seizure, I’m sure you’re familiar with the Constitution. Warrants for evidentiary searches are usually executed during the day.

And where you’re argument fails and it is obvious that you are flailing for some reason-any reasons- to demonize Ms. Taylor, is that if she was such a threat and had committed all of your alleged crimes then the warrant would have been for HER.

Either way, we have a justice system. No one deserves to die at the hands of another. All reasonable and American minds can agree Ms. Taylor did not deserve to be killed.

“existent circumstances. Something to indicate there is a threat to the public.” I think you mean “exigent circumstances,” maybe slow down your subtitles on Law & Order. But that’s about warrantless search, which we aren’t even talking about.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Warrants for evidence are executed in the middle of the night all the time: for drugs, for financial crimes, for all kinds of things that aren’t immediate threats. They are done in the middle of the night (or very, very early) so people don’t destroy evidence.

“Threat to the public” is something you made up that has nothing to do with any kind of criminal law standard.

Here’s what I know…her ex boyfriend was a dealer. Not the dude in her apartment that night. I mean, I don’t know him personally but, the warrant wasn’t for him.The cops were simultaneously executing a warrant on the ex’s house across town. For some reason, a judge thought they should check Breonna’s place too. The cops did knock on Breonna’s door (it woke them up) but according to the neighbor, they did not identify themselves and immediately started using a battering ram. The boyfriend, who slept with a gun on the nightstand (as you do) came out (Breonna followed) and shot through the door, hitting a cop in the leg. There were also cops on the back patio who, after the boyfriend shot through the front door, shot through the slider. (6 shots, blinds were pulled down, no line of sight) and that’s when she was hit. This all happened in a matter of seconds. The officer on the patio was found guilty of not following protocol or some stupid BS. People are pissed about that. And at the judge for signing the warrant for her house. Hope this makes sense. It’s 2:50 am in Seattle and I just woke up from a rum coma.

The trouble is that we aren’t just talking about this case. If this were a one time event, it may not even be much of an issue. However, time and time and time again, police are not held accountable for their actions. There is rarely an indictment and cops are almost NEVER punished. I get that you want to understand the specifics of this case, but it isn’t just about this case. It is every other unjustified killing that lacks due process that has come before it – of which there are so, so many.

The specifics of every case are crucial. Every case will not fit neatly into the “all police are evil racists” box. But some will so specifics are needed every time anyone is shot by police.

There will be changes made to police procedures. Body cams that show the ENTIRE arrest from beginning to end will be so important to everyone’s safety. Forensics and ballistics don’t take sides, they just tell their part Of the story. This isn’t a hopeless situation.

When folks start to dissect the details of a situation that is so often repeated, it feels like we are missing the big picture. How many times are we going to question the victims and when are we going to start questioning the police?

Yes, it’s been a widespread misconception that Kenneth (her current boyfriend there the night of the shooting) was the drugs suspect police were looking for. He was NOT. The person they were looking for was a former boyfriend she had dumped some time ago and who had not stayed at her place for quite awhile. Many witnesses at the complex said they did not hear police announce themselves until AFTER shots were heard. Kenneth said when he heard the knocking and then the battering ram in the wee small hours of the morning, he did not hear police identify themselves and assumed someone was breaking in. He armed himself with his licensed and registered gun to defend himself and his girlfriend from who he thought were intruders. Neither Kenneth, nor Breonna, were suspected of doing anything and were not on the warrant issued, a judge just signed off on raiding her place to find the suspect…even though it was highly unlikely he was there and they had other current KNOWN places he was staying. After Breonna was shot, she was still alive and bleeding out on the floor with Kenneth (as he’s stated) asking them to help her and they didn’t. He called 911 himself. Kenneth, who THOUGHT reasonably they were being home invaded and fired his weapon is being charged with a more serious crime than the officers who shot Breonna in her own home. Breonna is guilty of nothing more than having bad insight previously in her past dating someone who turned out to be a criminal and she’d already rectified that by dumping him. And that’s not an actual crime.

Furthermore, before you RESPONSIBLY conduct a raid, you watch a house to see who lives there. You get intel from the post office, you run the occupants through wants and warrants and you check the records for registered guns.

EVEN IF I DIDN’T GIVE AN F ABOUT THE “bad guys,” I WOULD care about my officers. PROCEDURES would be in place for the safety of the officers. Procedures were either non-existent, crappy or not followed. Knowing WHO the occupants were and knowing the occupant had a registered weapon, it would have been easier and safer to arrest them as they were getting into a car or walking on the street. Then, secure the premises and search.

That was not the initial media spin. The boyfriend was charged with shooting the police officer but after an outcry, the charges were dropped because he was in his own apartment and shot after the police broke down the door with a legally owned gun by the way. He was not the person he was looking for. Breonna Taylor’s former boyfriend who did not live at the apartment was the target of the warrant and was already in custody before they broke down the door. Now if you are sleeping and someone breaks down your door, what would you do? Funny how only Black people cannot defend themselves in their own home.

The collective response you are seeing is not based on these facts, because a lot of this was not available until recently. And most people don’t know the actual facts, as you can see on this thread.

First, I read the entire police report. No she wasn’t a big time drug dealer. However, her name was on the warrant. They have pictures of her at the trap house. She was involved. This was a 4 year investigation! For those of you that don’t believe the police. What about the boyfriend? He said in the report and on jail calls. Breonna WAS NOT in the bed sleep. Please stop with that lie!! She was in the hallway with him! He ADMITTED he shoot at the police first! If someone fires a gun at you. Your going to fire back!! Personally, I think the boyfriend should be charged. I feel he used her as a human shield. His actions got her killed. She was shot 6 times! Why wasn’t he injured? Also, Breonna was fired as an EMT. She rented a car for him and a dead body was found in it!!!

I’m a social worker at the county jail in my city. I have been working at this jail for 15 years. I have met a lot of Breonna Taylors here. She is a victim of bad decision making. She was hanging out with dope boys and involved in the dope game. You either end up in jail or dead! This should be a lesson for all young ladies.

It is untrue that her at that time current boyfriend had anything to do with drugs. 1. The exboyfriend was associated with drugs. The current boyfriend is a law abiding citizen with no criminal past ( like that even matters) that legally owned a gun. 3. It doesn’t matter where she was killed in her own home whether it’s the bed or the hallway. She shouldn’t have been killed anywhere, her need, bathroom, kitchen, etc.4. There is no evidence the boyfriend used her as a shield.5. His actions didn’t get her killed. He stood his ground as he thought intruder were breaking in. Is stand your ground only for whites people? The police killed her. 6. This is the first I’ve heard about Breonna renting a car for anyone, current or ex boyfriend. Are you suggesting that her death is justified because she rented a car for someone?

Sorry, but no. If someone is breaking in to my house (which is what he thought that was happening), I have every right to defend it. In his mind, it could have been the ex or people that were associated with him. So, he defended his home. It isn’t his fault that Breonna was shot. It was incomplete police work and procedures. I support the police 100%, but there some cops that make their own rules. This was a comedy of errors. The minute that they knew that they screwed up, instead of trying to cover their own assets, they should have rendered aid. Incompetence is to blame, certainly not her boyfriend that was defending her.

I may be in the minority on this but I understand why the cops weren’t charged – despite my belief that they should have received some sort of ‘punishment’. joolz-of-the-north’s explanation was accurate as were the others that said it was a huge disruption in the middle of the night – in an innocent woman’s home. I’m furious that that poor woman was put in that situation and essentially executed for no real reason. I say ‘no real reason’ because there wasn’t a need for this. Had the cops checked their information, this may not have happened – drug dealer ex was in custody, they should have known she was no longer a close associate, etc… Honestly, if that were happening at my door, I would be in the same situation.

Here’s the problem, and (sadly) it really isn’t so much that an innocent woman lost her life: The problem is cops in general. They do what they want, when they want, and there is very little accountability. In this case, they were reportedly following orders and maybe the lack of charges is the right thing to do. But… what it speaks to is a bigger problem – a law official’s blatant disregard for life, particularly black life – regardless of said individual’s participation in the events that led up to the confrontation (which btw… was no participation). This was an excessive use of force in an effort to find.. what? Drugs? Drugs which shouldn’t be shooting back? To me, the bigger picture is that the whole structure of police forces should be overhauled/reevaluated (something politics are turning into ‘Defund the Police’ controversy) – this should never have happened to Breonna Taylor and, without courts recognizing the severity, it will happen again. Things need to change – which incites the fury and protests over this verdict.

I’m a white woman but trust me, I’ve seen enough instances of abuse of power, and have been in situations where I’ve been concerned for my safety (from cops) so I get the protests. I’m a law abiding citizen and have never been in trouble, per se, but i have had a cop in my house (after I invited him in – 16 y/o daughter called them because we took her cell phone – long story) and once that cop was inside, he nearly physically attacked and almost arrested my husband for having the nerve to question his presence inside my home (not realizing that I had invited the guy in to get him off the porch). Fortunately, in our case, my husband had the presence of mind to settle down and let the cop continue his aggressive behavior but that situation was very eye opening. Note: they didn’t make me give the cell phone back

Overall, in this case, I understand the letter of the law and the results of this investigation – even though it sickens me. These particular police officers were following established protocol and orders – and may have become afraid when initial shots were fired – I get it… I really do.. Maybe they shouldn’t be punished (individually) but the system needs to be overhauled entirely.

This is what I wanted to say but couldn’t put into words. The system is so clearly wrong. An overhaul is a must for citizens to be truly safe. Searching for drug money and/or drugs should never be done during the middle of the night. I have no clue why anyone thought this was normal or remotely okay. This was clearly not an emergency. A life was lost for nothing at all. This plays out over and over in all of our communities. A month doesn’t pass without seeing someone shot and killed by police while executing a search warrant on the local news. Violence begets violence and the cycle never ends.

Poeple are saying her current boyfriend who called the cops for help for her and who fired on police first was not a criminal. Is this for certain? Because in my mind, if you have a felony, you’re a criminal. I don’t want an argument, I just want to know if it is a fact or not.

according to Kenneth Walker’s (the current BF) attorney…Mr. Walker had no past criminal history so I am not sure where you got that he had a felony. Also (and I dont know Kentucky gun laws) I dont think a person could have a legal, registered gun if you have a felony on your record. The initial charge against Mr. Walker for the shot he fired was dropped. Many sources are reporting that the officer that was shot was likely hit with friendly fire.

Right now the Louisville interim police chief is having a news conference to update us on the two officers that were shot last night as well as several other officers that were assaulted with bats, bottles and bodily fluids. There were 127 arrests and 16 looting instances.

Fox and MSNBC covered in it’s entirety, CNN COVERED NONE OF IT, they ran regular programming. Think about that.

The arrests of looters? How shocking. Protestors are not looters. The officers that were assaulted? What do you think was going to happen, after the sickening grand jury results? The two officers shot last night – who shot them? Can you prove it was the protestors, far right instigators or gang members?

Some views are based on assumptions, some on facts. It’s a fact that young lady was murdered. It’s a fact The Central Park Five were railroaded. It’s a fact that a large majority of falsely imprisoned black people are now being exonerated due to DNA.

I really applaud Tamara for trying to start a conversation that would lead to better understanding vs. further polarization. Unfortunately, what I am seeing as a reader, for some, who ‘get it’, there is no leeway in their minds for those who do not and they don’t appear willing to engage in discourse that would lead to better understanding. This. I am thankful to Tamara for encouraging our discovery of the most pertinent facts involving this case. Unlike other news coverage of shootings by police this rings different to me. I have gone from believing it was a complete screw up and overreaction on the part of police to thinking it is a tragic event we can hopefully all learn from.

Although I would have marched for many of the other black people who were victims of police injustice I would not march in this instance. This is more about the procedural aspect of the arrest warrant. Big problems with that but not with the actual officers carrying out the warrant.

That said, I ask myself how would the community react if this was a basically innocent white woman shot in her bed while asleep. Thank you TT! This thread is very helpful.

As a Louisvillian, what I don’t understand is why the city gave Breonna’s family an unprecedented $12million settlement before the findings were released. Which would presume some culpability on the part of the police/city, yet no one is charged with shooting her or for her death and no wrongdoing was found with the exception of firing in the wrong apartment. Then why was $12million paid out? Seems like a coverup is definitely possible.

I think it was because they let her die by not calling for help. Thinking the real cover up (and possible racist act) is that she could have been saved had she been tended to medically right away..

It was said the BF (who returned fire on police) called 911. If that is true, then he wasn’t taken into custody at that time? Because if someone fired on police they usually don’t get let go right away and given access to their phone in an active crime scene. This is part I don’t understand. If he wasn’t deemed a threat, how come help wasn’t called by police and only him. And how long after she was shot was he actually able to make that call? After reading all these comments of factvsfalse info. That is the conclusion I am coming too.

She may have been involved as far as receiving packages at the house. Police may not have followed protocol regarding the “no knock” or firing into the dwelling. Neither one matters if the real reason she is dead was that she was refused immediate medical attention.

Because the only part of our government that is still working how it’s supposed to be according to the constitution are our civil courts. Criminal courts are compromised. Every other branch of government is also compromised by not doing what they are constitutionally obligated to do nor are they handling their respective checks and balances duties. From a congress on both sides that is bought and paid for to a president handing out executive orders like free fliers from a newly opened restaurant (pre-Covid) to a judicial branch that may or may not meet out justice according to the current law on the books to a military that may or may not defend the constitution above everyone and everything as their main job these days is making weapons manufacturers even richer…none of it works for the people except the civil courts. For many people—including Black people and other people of color—the civil court is the only place they will ever see any justice. Ever. And yet Black survivors of police brutality or the loved ones of those murdered by cops are supposed to deny themselves even that justice because somehow the money is tainted? It gives these families what? A bad look? Makes their case for justice weaker? Look around: financial settlement is all these people will ever see. And the city of Louisville did settle quickly because every prosecutor in America knows the civil courts still work. They know they can’t roll in with BS and lies and win. They try to not even waste their time. Plus they know they can make the families look like greedy monsters for accepting cash for a loved one’s murder.
If you don’t have Covid brain, if you think cognitively, and if you don’t side with one political party over another then you can look at all of the known facts about this case—NOT the unknown grand jury report which was not released to the public, but only summarized by the AG who is not a non-partial person in this murder, and you can only conclude that these cops lied to get the no-knock warrant, wore plain clothes to hide they were cops, wore no body cams or did not have them turned on, did not knock or possibly “knocked” as they battered the door down, shot up the apartment so badly that their bullets entered into other apartments yet did not hit Breonna’s boyfriend even though the cops allege Breonna and her BF were side-by-side in an apartment hallway, retreated after they murdered Breonna, did not worry about the status of Breonna or the BF long enough for the BF to make more than one call including to 9-1-1 crying for help because he didn’t know who or why someone had broken into their apartment and shot Bre, arrested the BF, tried to frame the law-abiding BF, tried to coerce the ex-BF drug dealer into lying about Breonna to bolster a fake case against her, only fired one cop who is the one who allegedly did not hit Breonna with gunfire, settled with Breonna’s family before the grand jury findings, and then only summarized the grand jury findings instead of releasing them.
Black people want justice and equality. They continue to be denied.

TT, you’re comments are completely understandable and warranted.
The warrant was for her ex, who is a known drug dealer who was still using her address. Police found his mail at her house.
Not only is her ex a drug dealer, her current bf is one as well. Breonna was actively engaged in the drug trade. Police have video, pictures, and phone calls of her going to their drug house picking packages of drugs up and returning to her house with them.
AND, her car was found with a dead body in the trunk in 2016. She said she didn’t know anything about it. The ex was with the car when the body was found.
The police did identify themselves. The bf did shoot first. Let me ask you this, have you ever shot at anyone at any hour of the day or night at your door?
It is true the officer outside who started shooting at the building was horribly wrong to do so. He had no clear line of sight to be shooting at anything.
It was always a lie how this story was portrayed. Never had anything to do with race. Breonna was not shot in her bed. This is the story the media conveyed because it fit their narrative of police killing innocent black people. And those who pointed out the facts in the situation have been called racists and other names for doing so.
There’s no question police brutality should not be allowed. No question racist cops should be fired when they are found to have committed crimes. But there’s also no question most of these shootings are brought on by the choices and behaviors of people who are criminals.
Police do not go around hunting for random black people to kill. But that’s what the narrative is. People who believe that are misinformed, naive, brainwashed, or want to believe it because it fits their distorted world view.

Dearest TT, I have no desire to yell at you for not understanding. Questions are always good. Growing up in NYC I have seen a lot of “no knock” warrants go wrong. Years ago a 3 month old child was killed because the police went to the wrong apartment, even with the correct address on warrant. My point is we are flawed by design. Mistakes will happen & the innocent across the board will continue to pay the price. We need a better tactical solution to the “no knock”

The AG made it very clear the warrant was not a “no knock”. That piece of information sent me reeling. I hit a wall & cried for hours. The police use of a battering ram under these circumstances is a legal quagmire-see 4th amendment. If you don’t hear the police knocking it is illegal to kick your door in, except in exigent circumstances. Those circumstances better pass the sniff test, it’s a high threshold. They are to sit & wait until the person on the warrant leaves their home & taken into custody legally. We are also not legally obligated to open the door for the police. Not to be questioned by them or arrested on a warrant.

Until qualified immunity is eradicated, police will continue to murder with impunity.

That condescending troll, Beets ,has every right to be here just as you have the right to go. As for me, thinks are clear a mud with the Breonna thing. I am always trying to drive traffic to my site. THAT IS MY JOB AND HOW I EAT. That said, I never thought this would be a huge post as it is. I just drink a lot and say things that sometimes hit a nerve. This is one of those times. Back when Jodi Arias was on trial, I had WAY MORE VIEWERS and no ads. So….you do you.

The NYTIMES is a rag take it from a NY’ER. The last credible editor resigned because she stated that she refused to allow twitter to run the headlines at the Times! Go figure! I left NYC a long time ago thank you Gawd! I now reside in Kentucky!!! Yes Breonna did not deserve to die but because a bunch of thugs didn’t like the outcome gives them no right to destroy others property. There were ppl from other states they were interviewed & gladly said so. It was disgusting. They shot 2 police officers. To state that the AG is incompetent is unfair, actually he kept alot close to the vest
in order to maintain the mob at bay! There was a truck with weapons that were being distributed for the mob. Anyone that carries a weapon & calls a police officer the C word is part of a mob not a protestor!! The AG could have given more info that would have enraged
them more. He chose not to. I will leave it at that. Her current boyfriend even stated that they knocked & so did others. It was a knock warrant. She died because of the coward she had for a boyfriend. He knows it. Stay tuned because it will come out! As for Crump he’s an ambulance chaser! Can you imagine trying to defend a child rapist? OMG!!! WE NEED TO
ACCEPT THE TRUTH NO MATTER WHERE IT TAKES US!! IF a police officer did wrong I have no problem with she/he being punished. The media is worse! Thanks! Peace 🙏

I apologize for only casually paying attention. But do you now at least understand why there are so many versions of this story and why I asked the question in the first place? I never expected this level if comments/vitriol. But there are so many stories out there, I am pro police in a time where sadly that is not cool. But if you break into my house at midnight you are getting fucking shot. badge or not.

Tamara, you are not expected by most to follow all stories in the news and report the facts. You have every right to question what you don’t understand. A few years ago my Uncle was sitting in his house doing a puzzle book when suddenly his door was rammed down and he found himself on the floor in cuffs. He was accused of being a drug dealer. The police had gone to the wrong house! Mistakes happen, as clearly they did in the Taylor case. The problem is the cover up. The police offered the ex boyfriend that was the true drug dealer a deal to be let off of the charges if he would implicate Breonna. He refused as she was not a part of his drug dealing. They don’t pay out 12 million to the family, quickly, if their hands are clean. Take care of you and Banjo!

Once more with feeling. When I know something I tell you what I know, When I don’t understand something I will ask you. I am actually no better off than I was before asking. Breonna’s lost life is a tragedy. That is all I ever knew. Maybe that is all I need to know. But wow…. you guys love to argue.

Wow I just scrolled through and looked at a handful of comments. I am with you on still being confused about this case. There is a lot of differing information out there that contradicts itself. I think we won’t really know the true facts until the grand jury info is released AND the actual trial happens and even then I don’t think either side will believe what is being told. I have been trying to stay away from political arguments because people tend just to end up personally attack each other and it is really depressing. Thanks for trying to get info!

What we know for sure is that on Sept 23rd, 1955 the murderers of Emmett Till were acquired. Time will tell. We will look back at history and through different lenses. There were two sides then. To some of these commenters, It is easy to see what side of history you would have been on.

I agree with you TT.  I see it this way as well. She was no longer dating the drug dealer boyfriend, however the surveillance they had (which justified the warrant ) showed the drug dealer boyfriend recently at the home multiple times, allegedly with “packages” at times coming in and out, not necessarily from the US Post office. What drug dealer uses the US mail? . She had also recently been on surveillance with him in a car. There are over 30 recorded calls from the ex boyfriend when he was in in jail and Breonna. Many references in his recorded  calls to other people about Breonna handling his money and business for him while in jail–his words, could be true, could be a lie. In 2016 a dead body was found in a car she was renting, when Police questioned her she said she let the ex boyfriend drive it.  No direct evidence she was a dealer or user. herself, but being linked to a drug dealer proved fatal for her. I think this young lady was trying to better herself and step away from that life and that type of association but she was still in contact with the ex. The upstairs neighbor testified in the Grand Jury that he heard the Police knocking and announce themselves. It’s been reported as a knock and a no knock. So I guess that was up to the Grand Jury to believe or reject The boyfriend admitted he did in fact fire his gun first. Once you fire at Police in that kind of situation, anything can happen.I wish the Police had verified whether the ex was actually there or not before even executing the warrant. It was handled badly from the get-go. We really don;t know what all the evidence shows, hopefully it will be released. It’s very sad. I feel for her family. I feel sorry Breonna lost her life over some low life. The blame is all around though.

In this case, as in most cases, much of what is initially reported and what we “hear” turns out to be wrong–but meanwhile, people have made up their minds (to fit their prior biases) and started taking actions ranging from posting on FB all the way up to rioting. It would be far better for everyone to stay calm until there is a full investigation and the facts are out. I heard it repeated endlessly on news outlets that the police were at the wrong house, but that is not true.

And it’s not just this case; in most cases the early reports are wrong. In the old days, they had a saying: Falsity is halfway around the world before Truth can pull his boots on. These days, we see a tweet with 10,000 retweets, and then the correction (if there even is one) gets about 10 likes. The stories that most fit your prior biases are the ones you most need to be suspicious of and delay spreading.

And that’s terrific. But why you let thise people push this bullshit about Soros paying protesters and “reasearching” their “facts” from a bunch of fucking bullshit online “sources” is beyond me. People are so easily manipulated and their stupid fucking phones have made it like shooting fish in a barrel. Guess what, your “research” is FAKE NEWS with an AGENDA. The press is there to hold the people in power accountable. Don’t let some orange turd that lies every time he opens his mouth tear down our democracy. Facebook is doing that just fine by itself.

Expert disagrees with the emperor? Deep state operative, fake news, everybody is out to get me, boohoo. Expert agrees with the emperor? Hey, you”re head of HHS, USPS, Dept of Ed. Jesus Christ. Why is this so hard to see. It’s manipulation at ti’s worst. Biden says something doofy, he’s straight Satan. Trumps sows mistrust in the very foundations of this country? Cool! Ugh. Airplanes full of men in black? Obama is somehow both totally incompetent and also running a shadow regime that’s going to take the country down and put us all under sharia law? Which is it???

It’s not about your “right” to your opionion. It’s that your opinion sucks and is influences by a lifelong con artist. The problem is bigger that this case. The irony in Beets saying she can’t believe how “the media” and “radical left” are the entire issue. It’s batshit. The left eats their own with a big helping of political correntlness. The end. It’s so dishonent. Fox and OAN are lying to you, too. I think of justing ending it all somethines. I dont’ want to live like this.

I’ve put through a lot of nasty moderated (first timer) comments. Apparently, I am a racist and an opportunist for making this post at all. If that is your assessment of me, you are clearly brand new here. And yes normally I would have researched this. I appreciate all of you sending links. Links are not normally allowed here but I have allowed every one. Breonna Taylor’s death is just so tragic. That I knew. But I still struggle to understand how such a tragedy can occur. And now of fucking course the cops are not held accountable. It’s just more sadness in a very shitty year. I’m sorry if you now hate me and/or want to leave the site. But this conversation needed to happen. But make no mistake, Breonna Taylor will not be forgotten by me.

But that’s not how you started this. To you Breonnna Taylor’s death was justified because she had once dated a drug dealer. The fact that you’re allowing links is only making that even more clear since so many of them are to out right lies and innuendo that have been refuted. I also can’t help but think you brought in that NY Times article just to stoke the right leanings flames that you already knew existed from your more right leaning regulars, who have said foul things in the past.

Social media is your bread and butter and has been for a decade now. That’s why it’s really hard to believe that you knew nothing about this case, and aren’t simply using feigned ignorance to further the right wing agenda to smear the name of Breonna Taylor and the protesters who’ve simply had enough.

We now know you’re definitely not a Democrat, and emphatically so from another post, and we’ve watched how there were many folks like you who claimed to hate Trump, but somehow still checked his name on their ballot. So. I’m not saying you’re a liar, but as someone who knows you have a Twitter account you utilize rather efficiently as the mood strikes you, I am saying your veil of ignorance is showing signs of wear.

TT is not a bigot or a racist, you are mistaken.

And here in lies a big part of the problem with our society at the moment. An innocent black woman is shot in her own home and it becomes polarizing based on which political party one is aligned. I don’t know if this particular shooting was racist or not, I am certain it was another black person unnecessarily shot by a police officer. Change in policing needs to happen to keep these avoidable killings from continuing to happen. Even though I disagree with much of the information presented here, I appreciate TT starting and continuing to allow this discussion. For this change to occur, difficult conversations, like the ones happening here, must happen.

“To simply blow this off as a tragedy for which no one is to blame is an insult to the life and legacy of Taylor, but also to the dozens of innocent people who have been gunned down in their own homes before her. And the effort by Cameron and others to make all of this go away by feeding the public half-truths that blame the victims in this story — Taylor and Walker — for Taylor’s death is inexcusable.

We could prevent the next Breonna Taylor. We could ban forced entry raids to serve drug warrants. We could hold judges accountable for signing warrants that don’t pass constitutional muster. We could demand that police officers wear body cameras during these raids to hold them accountable, and that they be adequately punished when they fail to activate them. We could do a lot to make sure there are no more Breonna Taylors. The question is whether we want to.” -Radley Balko

You can’t speak for Tamara, and there are actually Republicans and Independents who understand the issue with the case and the clear misconduct involved.

The issue here is Tamera’s opening statement as we as her allowing links, many of which are easily refutable. I just find her ignorance of the case a little too convenient given her own professed political leanings.

I’m not trying to speak for Tamara. As a long time reader I can give my opinion. Anyone that has read this blog for a while is aware she has had a lot going on personally and professionally these past six months. Knowing this, I don’t think it is unreasonable at all she has not followed the Breonna Taylor shooting closely.
