MAFS Australia Recap: Things Come Down To The Wire

August 29, 2020 by tamaratattles 22 Comments

MAFS Australia RecapI’m three episodes behind and since these MAFS Australia recaps don’t generate much conversation, I’m going to just briefly highlight the goings on of each of the couples. I think we are nearing the end anyway. Oh Yes! It’s the final commitment ceremony. It’s a shame Americans never seem to be that interested in shows from other countries. šŸ™

Connie & Jon

Connie please stop apologizing to Jon because your girlfriends called Jon out on his douchebaggery. At the dinner party, Connie can barely keep from crying. When it is time for their questions the first one is about communication. Jon give some canned answer and seems like he has learned a lot. Lizzie tell Jon specific instances where he has given Connie mixed signals. Michael says Jon just needs to have sex with her and see if it sparks anything. Jon says that is ridiculous. Connie asks Jon if he is attracted to her. Honey, if you have to ask… At least he is honest. And then he contradicts himself.

The Final Commitment Ceremony

This is the big dramatic scene of the episode. It was allotted a third of the episode. Connie is very anxious and looks like she might throw up. So she asks Jon to do the talking. She literally can’t string a sentence together. Why is no one comforting her? When Jon reveals he wroteĀ  LEAVE, her anxiety escalates. Someone get her a glass of water and some tissues! As someone with anxiety, this is excruciating to watch. Even asshole Michael looks distraught. I wish the stupid experts would stop asking her if she is okay. She is clearly not okay.

Oh wow. She wrote Stay. I understand her thought process though. There is only one more week. Might as well complete the experiment. But sadly I think it is just going to be another week of pain for her. I hope the experts send him home. But the don’t. I need a drink.

MAFS Australia RecapMishel & Steve

Mishel has a breakdown over the fact that her mother pointed out she is in a platonic marriage. But she is! Steve is asked if he has any intention of ever meeting Mishel’s sexual needs. Steve continues to say that the attraction is not there but perhaps it will come. They both say they love each other as people and are very close. I have a new theory about Steve. Perhaps he has erectile dysfunction. It happens a lot with some illnesses and cannot always be treated. That would explain a lot of things. And men will do pretty much anything not to let that information be public. Oh no. Basically, the other women, mostly KC convince her she is selling herself short. I think the love Steve has for Mishel is worth more than dick. I’ll take Steve!

MAFS Australia RecapThe Final Commitment Ceremony

These two go up first and there is more discussion about sex. Why are these experts completely discounting the love these two have if there is no sex. The “experts” seem angry at them for not having sex. Plenty of married couples stop having sex at their age. It’s just not as important as intimacy sometimes. I hate Jon, “the expert.” Thankfully, they both choose to stay. I think I am more angry with the experts than Steve is.

The next day, Mishel continues to put the pressure on Steve. Give the man some air. I think if everyone would stop telling Steve he has to have sex, he be more open to intimacy of some sort. Mishel calls Stacey of all people for advice. Stacey basically says they will never be more than friends. Mishel’s big concern is looking like an idiot. Stacey is pissed at Steve and wants to “make him pay.” Oh for fucksake. She goes to lunch with Steve to put more pressure on him. Steve eventually agrees to share a bed with Mishel.

Lizzie & Seb

Seb still has the family lunch ordeal to get through. It doesn’t go well. Mama knows he can’t support Lizzie on his personal trainer salary. At the dinner party, Lizzie gets the first question. It’s clearly from Michael and Stacey. It’s worded in a way to be hurtful and asks why she is such a busybody. The good part is that Sebastian answered the question and defended Lizzie. The next question asked if Lizzie would move to Adelaide to make the marriage work. She said no. It’s much too quiet there. Seb says he would move to be with Lizzie. This is news to her and she seems shocked. She didn’t think he would want to be with her after the experiment. She says she is obsessed with him and he turns bright red. Aw!

The Final Commitment Ceremony

Seb just needs to get a new job in Sydney and start saving money for a house. Maybe they have a family business. And of course they are going to stay.

KC & Drew

These two seem to be doing very well together. They finally had sex! At the dinner party, Drew was asked if he would move to Sidney for KC. He said yes.

The Final Commitment Ceremony

I like these two. The are both attractive and treat each other kindly. There is much more to say other than I hope he enjoys living in Sidney.Ā  They decide to stay. YAY! He’s going to need a good job to keep her in Louboutins though.

Michael & Stacey

At the upcoming dinner party, the couples will be answering anonymous questions submitted by the other couples. This is Michael’s dream. There is nothing he loves more than stirring the shit at the dinner parties. The group’s question for Micheal is if he cheated on Stacey. He says he was so drunk he doesn’t remember. That is all they are going to ask him? Not why he is such a mean, horrible, self-centered douchecanoe?

The Final Commitment Ceremony

Before theĀ  ceremony Michael gets word from his job that he would be needed in Melbourne for three months. Wait, doesn’t he own the company? Stacey isn’t sure she trusts him to be away. But she is not going to let that credit card walk away. The vote to stay.

Boys Night Out

The guys all go out for the night. Michael is of course turning up already. Mikey returns to stir the pot with the guys. It’s time to get to the bottom of the Haley and Michael drama. Then Chris, the eye witness to the incident arrives! Oh the drama! Except he didn’t see the kiss. Well what good is he then? Especially since Chris has one of the accents I can’t understand, Thankfully, Steve is there to interpret. Apparently, Vanessa saw Michael and Hayley rolling around on the bed and kissing. And apparently, Vanessa has the video. Michael is nervous.

Girls Night Out

When the girls go out, Stacey wants to know if Steve shared the bed with Mishel. He did, but it still was not good enough for her. The girls from earlier in the season start showing up. Vanessa shows up and I am sure she will show the video. Stacey is not happy to see her. And then, Hayley herself shows up. Apparently on the night of the cheating, Michael was wasted and he also tried to hook up with Vanessa. This is unwelcome news to Stacey.

Click Here For More MAFS Australia Recaps!Ā

Then we found out that Vanessa lied about having a video. Stacey continues to defend her man. At the very end of the show, Vanessa tells production that Stacey has an even bigger secret. And then the recording ends before I can find out what it is!

Your DVR cut off Vanessa saying that Stacey may have hooked up with someone else too!

I love this show and getting to see Australia. It’s interesting how different the format is from the US version. I hope we get more after this.

My heart breaks for Connie. I see your point about Steve and Mishel, but I think he should’ve been open to sleeping in the same bed on the home stay visits. It was over a month by then, staying in each other’s homes and sleeping on the couch is what guests do, not intimate partners. If he’d gotten into the bed week 6 or 7 they might be cuddling by now. A lot of the US couples start with a ā€œlineā€ in the middle but stay in the same bed before they’re completely comfortable. Insisting on that physical distance for so long is hard to overcome when trying to build intimacy. And I see Stacey and Michael leaving the experiment together and then having lots of drama communicated through the tabloids which is probably why both of them signed up in the first place.

Thanks for recapping! Hope you’re having a good day!

Mishel has treated Steve like shit from the beginning. Laughing when he injured himself, just being a basic bitch. Then after that odd cycle trying to force him to be intimate with her. I’m not sure how they got to this mutual sexless lovefest in the first place. It’s weird. But however they got to the mutual admiration society stage but I don’t think the experts screaming every week for him to give her some dick is very… normal. or helpful.

I can see Steve feeling too much pressure, especially if you’re on to something with your ED theory. And my COVID brain has forgotten a lot of how Mishel acted at the beginning (guess I should go do some rereading, ha!). I’m also probably triggered because my ex didn’t like sharing a bed/sleeping over (but we were having sex) and I’m still in my Fuck All Men phase of the breakup that happened during quarantine.

The Aussie accents make me feel better though ?

I thought Michael was a loaded trust fund baby? Something feels off about this sudden three month business trip. I’m not buying it.

Micheal is supposedly a self made billionaire who owns his own business at whatever his young age is. That is why he is so cocky and entitled. Not a trust fund baby I don’t think.

This has been fascinating to watch. Had no idea how culturally different the Aussies were. And then, of course, they arn’t. The loneliness is palpable. I wanted so badly for these couples to work out but the drama. And, I agree. Poor Michael has issues he may not be able to overcome but he is trying. Those counselors are horrid tho. Just mean. So glad you are recapping TT. Thanks, it helps.

These recaps hooked me in so much I went back and watched all the MAFS-AU shows from the beginning on a website someone mentioned earlier. It took me 4 days to get through watching back-to-back episodes. Seeing Connie’s behavior in a flow I can understand why Jon was behaving as he did. All things were good when Connie was up and happy but when she got into a darker place he was more distant. I think he wanted to like her and be attracted to her but she scared him. I used to work with someone who “cycled” like that and it was always walking on eggshells not knowing their mood for the day. Hopefully she is in a better place now, she is one of my favorites.

I totally agree with TT that Steve may have a problem in the bedroom. I tried to make him out to be a manipulator (he is but not as bad as I originally thought) Mishel is demanding but I understand that she came into this for a full love connection and is not making any progress toward that end. Which could be why Steve is more and more reluctant to “dive in.”

Stacey and Michael deserve each other, they are too happy to stir things up.

You have me hooked on the MAFS site shows just like you hooked me on Killing Eve, Family Kharma and Mexican Dynasties. Hope they are all able to return! Thank you for recapping!

I got hooked on this show too and live for the recaps Tam! Where is this website to episodes? My DVR killed a couple of episodes.

I love learning about Aussie culture and geography. Oh, and the slang…I had to look up a lot of Hayley’s lingo…I learned some (bogan for one) from RHOMelbourne.

I like MFAS-Aussie better than US version. But the experts in both drive me crazy.

If you go into TT’s MAFS Aus comments for “Cheating Already?” there are a couple of sites that are mentioned to look into to catch up on episodes. Hope I didn’t break a rule to say that.

Mikey is 28 and from Sydney and has a solid work ethic. He recently stepped in to help run his family’s business, a nursing home founded by his grandfather. Mikey carries a self-assured faƧade but lacks confidence when it comes to interacting with women.HE IS VERY RICH! But very sweet working at the old folks home. And he is a bit lacking in confidence with the ladies. I like this kid. Plus he’s really cute!

          Natasha & Mikey
These two were just fine until asshole Michael gave a very slanted version of what Natasha said at the dinner party. I hate Michael. Now, Mikey has apparently been avoiding Natasha since the ceremony where he wanted to leave her. He has to get through a week before that can happen. I need someone to fix this relationship. It was my favorite of the whole show. Mikey is the best! He was just mislead by Michael and apparently they have not worked things out. They finally meet to talk. Natasha is blaming it all on herself. But she didn’t do anything wrong! She just made a small joke. The talk went well. However, Mikey still doesn’t get the real picture!

Click Here For More MAFS Australia Recaps!
Their lunch includes Mikey parents and Natasha’s Natasha’s parents. I believe these are the only two with both of their parents there. Mikey brings up the comments that Natasha DIDN’T REALLY MAKE at the dinner party. I wish they would play back the footage for Mikey! Natasha just cries. Natasha’s dad says she needs to just quit and come home. This is infuriating because it is all a big misunderstanding. Natasha runs away.

To me it seemed that Mikey made the original “10 second” joke and Natasha repeated it at the get together. Mikey should have just rolled with it and said something like, “Yes, double my personal best time!” But Michael is a shit stirrer. Kharma, come get him.

I just read that unlike the American version, when they do their ceremony it’s just symbolic in the beginning. If they decide to stay together after the eight weeks that is when they have a legal marriage.
I guess that explains the weekly commitment ceremonies. Much better!

I had a source who was a friend of someone on a previous American season. He said that the marriage certificates are not filed until after decision day. So they don’t have to get a divorce. So while the ceremonies are legal and real, the marriage isn’t legally binding until the certificates are filed.

I haven’t been commenting because I lost track of when this airs and got really behind. Sadly, I can’t get all the episodes on demand so I missed some of the homestays and the whole cheating episode. I’ll have to check out the website mentioned above. I was surprised at how awful Haley was being to Stacey. It was like Haley didn’t see anything wrong with her behavior at all. I was disappointed because I had liked Haley at the start and was rooting for them. I’m not a huge Stacey fan, but she didn’t deserve that.

Steve and Mishel – if it’s not ED, is he afraid she has VD or something? So weird. Why not just call it over like so many other couples did? I get why she’s hanging on, but does he really think someday he’s going to change his mind? I just don’t get his motivation at all. He seems to have a lot of anger though. He barely controls it when anyone challenges him. I think she’s dodging a bullet if they split.

I just love Connie and Jonethan. I’m finally a few episodes ahead of this recap and it is so painful to see her grieving the lost possibilities. And yet, almost all the other guys at the boy’s night out said they liked Connie best. Suddenly Jonethan is realizing he has a gem that he overlooked.

I can’t get into the new couples because I missed so much of their stories.. I want Poppy and some of the others back.
