I’m trying to be optimistic about this episode but after last week’s RHOP recap where the focus was on Candice’s fake story line, it’s a struggle. Despite all the options we have with TV shows and streaming channels I am amazed that we are still watching the Misogyny Channel. Old habits die hard I guess. Or perhaps you, like me, keep hoping that these shows will move away from seeing who can eviscerate their castmates the fastest. Tamara Tattles sources close to the suits say they are trying to move to a new direction with the season of RHOA that is currently filming. It’s supposed to be more about families and kids and social justice. However, they just filmed a scene for Todd’s birthday with strippers in glass boxes (due to Covid) so I am not getting my hopes up. Yet, on we must go, apparently.
We start with Karen and Ray Huger and their fake marriage. Karen is trying to get Ray to tell her that she loves him. He’s not feeling it.
Meanwhile, Gizelle and Monique go to lunch to try to “move forward.” I thought they did that at Candiace’s party last week. They agree on one thing, the both really like Ashley. Ashley is having postpartum depression and struggling to leave the house. They decide to have a dinner party for Ashley to encourage her to come out of her apartment. Since they have to invite Candiace, Gizelle suggests finger foods to avoid Candiace coming in contact with utensils. We flash back to last season where Monique and Candiace “moved forward” but clearly that did not stick.
Gizelle brings up that she found it strange that Charrisse was invited to Candiace’s party. Charrisse has been spreading malicious rumors about Monique. Since I am not sure if they will be openly discussed just yet, Charrisse is telling everyone that Monique’s husband is not the father of their youngest baby. Despite the fact that the kid is the spitting image Chris. Gizelle is spilling the tea. She says that people are saying that Monique had an affair with her trainer. But Candiace is supposed to be Monique’s friend so why is she encouraging Charrisse’s behavior?
So, I already hate Wendy because she is friends with Candiace. This tells me all I need to know about this woman. Also, Gizelle seemed terrified of Wendy when she was asked about her on WWHL. Plus, Wendy is encouraging Candiace to breed. Oh hell naw.
Juan invites Gizelle out to talk to her about Robyn. Is this a good idea? Juan announces to Gizelle that he wants to remarry Robyn. Nobody believes this at this point. I hope it works. I like Robyn and Juan together. It’s just we have been down this road many times before. I guess he needs help with the ring? Gizelle is in the same boat with her ex-husband. Her kids are not on board. Nobody is on board for the rekindling of her marriage except for her. Their kids have a ton of resentment toward their father. The father they barely know.
The Requisite Dinner Brawl
It’s time for the dinner party celebrating Ashley and her new bundle of joy. It’s clearly going to be a shit show. There are utensils on the table. And the placecards for seating are difficult to arrange. There is a reason this episode is called The Rumor Meal. Everyone has at least one enemy at the table. Every time this group is together in a restaurant this season, there is always going to be a bit of anticipation. Is this the time it all goes to hell? But I think that happens a few weeks further in. Honestly, I don’t pay attention to production of this show.
Why the hell is Gizelle wearing spandex exercise shorts to this dinner. You know the girl has deep closets. What is she thinking? Candiace walks in with Wendy as her backup. I like how all of these women order politely in a restaurant and don’t ask for a bunch of weird crap. Take note, RHOC and RHOBH. Ashley thanks everyone for their support. So far, this is a civilized dinner. How long can this last? Ashley invites everyone to a sip and see. Then she says that she may need surgery for an anal fissure caused by her pregnancy. So much for polite conversation. To be fair, she was discussing it privately until someone butted in.
So Far This Is Very Civilized…
We quickly move on to a toast to Ashley. The main course has arrived! That’s a milestone! No insults before dinner arrives. It is Monique who starts the shit talking this time. She is obviously not a fan of Charrisse. It came up as they were talking about Candiace’s party. Candiace claims she had no idea those two had such an issue. And the lie detector results say…THAT IS A LIE. The topic turns to birth control, sort of. And when Candiace goes around the table outing everyone’s birth control method, Wendy goes hard on Karen. She loudly asks Karen, “Hold on! You have sex?”
Gizelle and Monique try to get the women back on the civilized track. Gizelle says they are a sisterhood. In order to mend the sisterhood, it seems they want Candiace to apologize to Ashley for all the hell she put her through last season. Candiace has somehow grown some decorum and says that she would be open to talking to Ashley separately. And tonight is not the night for that. Who is this girl exercising common sense? Ashley says that she needs to see Candiace’s behavior matching the words coming out of her mouth right now. I totally agree with Ashley. But Karen, who has not said pea turkey all night, feels like Candiace is being ganged up on. Really? Candiace has been the asshole for several seasons.
And The Civility Goes Out The Window
Candiace was doing such a good job being civilized. And then she told Gizelle to STFU after she suggested apologies were in order. Candiace feels ganged up on. And maybe she is being ganged up on to a degree. But the reason for that is Candiace constantly exhibits thug behavior. And the group would like that to stop. It ends with Candiace saying, “Fuck all of you.” Candiace can dish it out but she can’t take it.
Next time: Jamal makes an appearance. And his relationship with Gizelle shows no signs of improvement. Ashley and Candiace attempt to hash things out.
